Divine reckonings in profane spaces : towards a theological dramaturgy for theatre, with special reference to the theo-drama of Hans Urs von BalthasarKhovacs, Ivan Patricio Morillo January 2007 (has links)
If from God’s perspective ‘all the world’s a stage’, theology invites one to think and act according to the view afforded from this height. To speak theologically of a ‘world stage’ as many contemporary theologians have done has required rethinking the Church’s long-established antagonism towards the stage. Of late, theology has opened up academic exchange with the drama’s understanding of ‘the great theatre of the world’. Hans Urs von Balthasar’s theo-drama in particular has given Christians a means for entering into discussion with dramatic forms. Contemporary theological engagements with ‘drama’, however, have been limited to its most literary/metaphorical aspects; less attention has been paid to the potentialities in theology’s exchange with the performance aesthetics of live theatre. Pressed to its logical ends, however, von Balthasar’s idea of a ‘theological dramatics’ and its advances made in contemporary theology, suggest the need for sustained engagement with other modes of dramaturgy, including performance theory and the stage. This thesis attempts to instantiate this theological engagement through the aesthetics of theatrical performance.

Transmission problems for Dirac's and Maxwell's equations with Lipschitz interfacesAxelsson, Andreas, kax74@yahoo.se January 2002 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to give a mathematical framework for scattering of electromagnetic waves by rough surfaces. We prove that the Maxwell transmission problem with a weakly Lipschitz interface,in finite energy norms, is well posed in Fredholm sense for real frequencies. Furthermore, we give precise conditions on the material constants ε, μ and σ and the frequency ω when this transmission problem is well posed. To solve the Maxwell transmission problem, we embed Maxwells equations in an elliptic Dirac equation. We develop a new boundary integral method to solve the Dirac transmission problem. This method uses a boundary integral operator, the rotation operator, which factorises the double layer potential operator. We prove spectral estimates for this rotation operator in finite energy norms using Hodge decompositions on weakly Lipschitz domains. To ensure that solutions to the Dirac transmission problem indeed solve Maxwells equations, we introduce an exterior/interior derivative operator acting in the trace space. By showing that this operator commutes with the two basic reflection operators, we are able to prove that the Maxwell transmission problem is well posed. We also prove well-posedness for a class of oblique Dirac transmission problems with a strongly Lipschitz interface, in the L_2 space on the interface. This is shown by employing the Rellich technique, which gives angular spectral estimates on the rotation operator.

Myths on the Move: A Critical Pluralist Approach to the Study of Classical Mythology in Post-Classical WorksDelbar, David Carter 01 June 2019 (has links)
The Classical Tradition, now more commonly known as Classical Reception, is a growing sub-discipline in Classics which seeks to trace the influence of Greco-Roman culture in post-classical works. While scholars have already done much to analyze specific texts, and many of these analyses are theoretically complex, there has yet to be a review of the theories these scholars employ. The purpose of this study is to provide researchers with a theoretical tool kit which allows them greater scope and nuance when analyzing usages of classical mythology. It examines five different approaches scholars have used: adaptation, allusion, intertextuality, reception, and typology. Each theory is followed by an example from Spanish literature or film: Apollo and Daphne in Calderón's El laurel de Apolo, Orpheus in Unamuno's Niebla, Dionysus in Unamuno's San Manuel Bueno, mártir, Persephone in del Torro's El laberinto del fauno, and the werewolf in Naschy's Waldemar Daninsky films. This thesis argues that a critical pluralist approach best captures the nuance and variety of usages of classical mythology. This allows for both objective and subjective readings of texts as well as explicit and implicit connections to classical mythology.
