The objection of this dissertation is to examine effects of stowed cargo on safety driving of a vehicle. Based on general experience of weighing trucks and monitoring of cargo fixture, my attempt was to summarize related legislative conditions of the operation of trucks in terms of payload, weighing and stowing of cargo. In the first part I worked on consistent methodology of stowing and fastening of cargo on trucks. I've included various methods of loading cargo and different ways of fastening and their calculations. The main body of the second part is a practical methodology of inspectional weighing of trucks on the road. In this section I took into account the current method and procedure of inspectional weighing and measuring of trucks. During my trial weighing of different types of trucks I proved that the key factor for safe seating and lashing of load on a vehicle is determining center of gravity of the vehicle. I solve this problem in detail in the last part of my work.

Secondhand ship is an option to improve marine business competitiveness. It provides a way for ship owners to integrate customer market rapidly without spending many resources on producing new ships. However, secondhand ships that perfectly suit owner's requirements becomes unavoidable challenge. Ship owners may decide to modify their ships to completely fulfill their requirements. A modification method that is often implemented is cargo replacement as observed from customer and global trends. It impacts ship stability due to different cargo properties which leads to different ship physical properties, such as position of center of gravity and buoyancy. Due to this impact, some ships may have excessive or reduced stability which causes potential damages. To ensure that cargo replacement does not negatively impact ship stability, it is evaluated according to the stability regulation of International Maritime Organization and classification society. A cement carrier vessel named MV Cemfjord is used as an example ship. The cargo is replaced from cement (ρ=1.35 tons/m3) to iron ore (ρ=3.03 tons/m3) and fly ash (ρ=0.794 ton/m3). Some modifications such as cargo position and total payload weight will be adjusted to some requirements. After implementing those modifications, some stability issues due to ship center of gravity shifting are considered. Therefore, the possibility of excessive and reduced stability may follow because of this effect. This study will investigate those stability issues and define the solution to overcome them. In this study, two solutions are offered. Firstly, the ship center of gravity is adjusted bymodifying the general arrangement. Other solution is conducted through adjusting the ship center of buoyancy by adding sponsons that affects buoyancy force on the ship hull. After defining the solution, it will be visualized into physical manners, in form of the new general arrangement or the sponsons dimension. Advantages and disadvantages of the chosen solution will also be discussed. / Andrahandsmarknaden för skepp är ett alternativ för sjöfartsindustrin att öka sin konkurrenskraft. Det ger möjligheten att etablera verksamheten på nya marknader utan att behöva bygga nya skepp. Utmaningen med detta är att hitta andrahandsskepp som kan möta kravspecifikationen som den nya ägaren ställer. En modifikation som ofta implementeras är byte av frakt gods för att tillgodose kunder och globala trender. Däremot påverkar lastens olika egenskaper stabiliteten i fartyget genom att masscentrum och flytkraftscentrum förskjuts. Detta är något som kan skada fartygen. För att undvika negativa konsekvenser från lastersättningen utreds den utifrån regler som är bestämda utav International Maritime Organization och klassificeringssällskap. Fartyget MV Cemfjord används som exempelskepp under den här studien. Ursprungligen är det ett fartyg som fraktar cement (ρ=1.35 ton/m3). I den här studien byts lasten ut till järnmalm (ρ= 3.03 ton/m3) och flyg aska (ρ=0.794 ton/m3). Modifikationer rörande lastpositionen och maximal lastkapacitet kommer göras för att möta vissa krav. Efter implementeringen kommer hänsyn tas till förskjutningen av fartygets masscentrum utifrån ett stabilitetshänseende. Studien kommer utreda och presentera lösningar för att komma till rätta med dessa problem. Två lösningar presenteras. Den första lösningen går ut på att flytta fartygets masscentrum genom att ändra fartygets generella layout. Den andra lösningen går ut på att förändra fartygets flytkraftscentrum. Detta görs genom att montera volymer på sidan av fartyget (eng. sponsons) som förändrar fartygets flytkraft. När lösningarna definierats kommer de visualiseras för att jämföra skillnader i fartygets yttre dimensioner. Fördelar och nackdelar med de två alternativen diskuteras också.

Designing and evaluating distribution networks for luxury beds : A case study of Hästens Beds’ European distribution from the perspective of cost and delivery serviceHuss, Sebastian, Normann, Arvid January 2023 (has links)
Hästens Beds is a Swedish luxury bed manufacturer, located in Köping, Sweden. They have a strong global presence, with Europe being the most mature and proven market. European retailers, called Hästens Partners, are serviced from the central warehouse in Borås which also handles all non-European export to Hästens’ other warehouse facilities in Hong Kong and the United States. As a part of Hästens’ planned growth journey, they are interested in reevaluating their European distribution network from a total cost and delivery service perspective. Hence, the purpose of this master’s thesis is to evaluate alternate distribution network designs in Europe for Hästens to reduce total logistics costs without impairing the delivery service level. Extensive literature studies and initial interviews were conducted to understand both the theoretical field and the Hästens’ case-specific context. Based on this, three main research questions and a corresponding method resulted in a three-step approach to answer the purpose of the study. In order to generate network structures and then analyze them, it was first necessary to determine the factors that should be included. Cost functions were created based on curve fitting, based on identified cost drivers for the included cost parameters of warehousing, transportation, and inventory carrying. Furthermore, the customer order lead time was concluded to be very generous. This had the consequence of the distribution lead time not putting any constraints on the network design. Lastly, access to transportation infrastructure, especially a port for handling the non-European export, and the general cost disparity between neighboring regions were concluded to be other important factors for the specific case of Hästens. Center of gravity analyses based on the identified cost driver for outbound costs, m3-km, were then used to generate 13 candidate warehouse locations. In some cases, these locations were altered to better align with the identified important factors of good access to transportation infrastructure and cost disparity. The most strategically viable combinations of the number and echelons of warehouses could be limited to three combinations, all consisting of a single echelon with one, two, or three warehouses respectively. Therefore, three network optimization scenarios were created, minimizing the total cost of inbound and outbound transportation, which led to the generated network alternatives. Finally, the total logistics costs were calculated and analyzed for the three alternative structures and a model replica of the current structure by utilizing the cost functions for each included cost parameter. The alternatives were also discussed based on delivery service theory and quantified with regard to distances to Partners. After applying sensitivity analysis and discussing the results’ implications for Hästens, Alternative 2* was formed with warehouses in Borås and Rotterdam. All the alternatives’ total logistics costs and average distances to Partners are quantified below. [TABLE] As can be seen, the cost savings from Alternative 1 compared with the current network are marginal, and the costs of Alternative 2 and 2* are highly similar. Further, preliminary analysis showed that Alternative 2* would not be economically profitable until at least a 500% increase in European outbound transportation volumes. The conclusion that could be drawn from this was that Hästens is not yet suited to scale up its European distribution network to operate more than one warehouse. However, when future sales volumes allow for it, a European distribution center in Rotterdam could be profitable and provide European customers with greater delivery service.

Warden i Israel : En studie av Wardens tillämpning i Israels luftkrig 2006-2009Bele, Daniel January 2013 (has links)
Den amerikanske luftmaktsteoretikern John A Warden III har skrivit ett flertal artiklar och böcker om vad han anser är det bästa sättet att använda luftmakt. Warden förordar luftmaktens offensiva natur och eftersträvar ett snabbt, för egen del, fördelaktigt slut på en konflikt. Warden har bl.a. liknat fienden vid ett system, där han menar att strävan skall ligga i att slå ut fiendens ledarskikt vilket får tillföljd att dess vilja till strid upphör. I detta arbete ges en sammanfattning av, enligt författaren, centrala delar av Wardens teorier. Sammanfattningen mynnar ut i tre stycken parametrar som kommer att utgöra Wardens teorier i detta arbete. De tre parametrarna är "enemy as a system", "center of gravity" samt "parallell attack". Dessa parametrar ligger sedan till grund för en analys av Israels luftkampanjer i dess krig mot Hizbollah 2006, Operation Change of Direction samt dess krig mot Hamas 2008-09, Operation Cast Lead. Syftet med detta är att ta reda på om Israel använde sig av Wardens teorier under dessa båda operationer. Anledningen till valet av dessa två konflikter är att Israel bl.a. sin doktrin slagit fast att de aldrig har råd att förlora ett krig. Detta tvingar Israel att optimera sin taktisering. Slutsatsen blev att det tydligt går att se att Wardens teorier genomsyrade Operation Change of Direction. Det var enbart "parallell attack" som inte tydligt efterföljdes genom hela operationen. Under Operation Cast Lead däremot så följde Israel Wardens teorier i mycket mindre utsträckning. Det var enbart "center of gravity" som följdes genom hela den operationen.

Komparace učebnic fyziky pro ZŠ / The comparison of physics textbooks for basic schoolsBUMBA, Tomáš January 2015 (has links)
The goal of the theses is to determine, which physics textbooks are being used at primary schools, compare these textbooks and analyse the conception and the way various topics are elaborated. Another purpose of the theses is to didactically analyse the theme unit Force in textbooks from various authors and to create a new textbook based on the results and knowledge gained during the comparison. The effectiveness of the elaborated textbook was tested in practice. The textbook is designed as a new, practical conception for the tuition of the theme unit Force and should serve as a practical tool, which is even meant to be used for some of the experiments. It is focused on the most realistic aspect of the topic and works with the pupil´s desire to discover and learn new things. The effectiveness was tested didactically in a primary school class and compared with the results of another class, which used usual textbooks and was taught with usual teaching methods. The response of the pupils on the various methods was also of high importance. The results of the testing can be found at the end of the work.
