There is little doubt that QCD is the correct theory for the strong interactions. The difficulties in solving the theory at low energies in the strongly interacting, non-perturbative regime have left unanswered many important questions, such as the nature of confinement and the mechanism of hadronization. Several approaches have been used to study its properties and consequences at low energies. These include lattice QCD, Dyson-Schwinger equations, chiral perturbation theory and quark models. More recently, the gauge/gravity duality has provided a new way to access the strongly coupled regime of a gauge theory via a dual gravity theory, in special of QCD through holographic models. Such models are usually named as holographic QCD models, or just AdS/QCD models. In this thesis, we investigate three problems of contemporary interest in hadronic physics involving the chiral and flavor symmetries holographic QCD models. These problems are: (1) the vanishing of the leptonic decay constants of the excited states of the pion in the chiral limit; (2) the effects of the flavor symmetry breaking on the strong couplings of the rho meson to the charmed D and D^{*} mesons and the their electromagnetic form factors; (3) the effects of a magnetic field and temperature on the chiral condensate, signalizing inverse magnetic catalysis.

The (di)muon physics in the ALICE experiment at the LHC : light vector meson analysis (ρ, ω, ф) in pp collisions (√s = 7 TeV), Pb-Pb collisions (√sNN = 2.76 TeV) and study of a new silicon tracker in the muon spectrometer acceptanceMassacrier, Laure 26 October 2011 (has links)
A probe to explore this state is the study of several resonances (ρ, ω, ф, J/ψ and Ƴ) through their dimuon decay channel, with a muon spectrometer covering pseudo-rapidity -4 < η < -2.5. In the first part of this thesis, the focus is on light vector mesons (ρ, ω and ф) and their analysis in the 2010 data, in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV and Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV. Light vector mesons are powerful tools to probe the QGP due to their short lifetime and their dimuon decay channel. Indeed, leptons have negligible final state interactions. Production rates and spectral functions of those mesons are modified by the hot hadronic and QGP medium. In pp collisions, pT distributions, production cross sections and pT-differential cross sections of the different mesons have been extracted. The Pb-Pb analysis and its prospects are also presented. The second part of the thesis concerns ALICE upgrades plans of year 2017. A feasibility study for a Muon Forward Tracker (MFT) in Silicon pixels located upstream of the hadronic absorber, in the spectrometer acceptance, was performed. Performances and improvements brought by the MFT on several physics cases were in simulations

In this thesis, we focus on some aspects concerning hadronic phenomena at low energy, below 1 GeV, under which the spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry takes place. Under this scale, the spectrum of Quantum Chromodynamics reduces to an octet of light pseudo-scalar mesons (π, K and η). But because of the confinement property, QCD under 1 GeV is highly non-perturbative, it is thus not possible to describe at low energy the dynamics of these mesons in terms of gluons and quarks (in that case the three light quarks u,d, and s). Two main alternatives exist to circumvent this major obstacle: Lattice QCD and Effective Field Theories. Lattice QCD is concerned with the numerical computations of various hadronic observables, while Effective Field Theories correspond to analytical frameworks adapted to a particular energy scale. In the case of QCD at low energy, this role is devoted to Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChiPT). This theory can be built either from two quark flavours (u and d), or three (u,d, and s). Using the numerical results from Lattice QCD, it is possible to obtain numerical values for the unknown parameters that ChPT contains. It was however observed that the series expansions of hadronic observables stemming from ChiPT calculations do not “behave well” numerically in the three-flavour case. Indeed, previous works shown that there could exists at the numerical level a competition between the Leading and the Next-to- Leading order (LO and NLO); i.e., instead of the usually expected hierarchy LO>>NLO, one would have LO~NLO. The main part of the thesis work consists in the description and the use of a modified version of ChiPT allowing this numerical competition in the chiral series that was called “Resummed ChiPT”. Within this “Resummed” framework, we proceed to fitting data from 2+1 lattice calculations to hadronic observables computed in ChiPT: decay constants and masses of π, K and η, and Kl3 form factors, and check the consistency of our claim about the numerical competition in ChiPT expansions. In the last part, we discuss topological quantities that are intrinsically tied to the very complex structure of the QCD vacuum, in the (resummed) ChiPT framework and in the light of 2+1 lattice data, in their analytical and numerical aspects.

QCD sum rules for D and B mesons embedded in cold nuclear matter are evaluated. We quantify the mass splitting of D - D-bar and B - B-bar mesons as a function of the nuclear matter density and investigate the impact of various condensates in linear density approximation. The analysis also includes D_s and $D^*_0 mesons. QCD sum rules for chiral partners in the open-charm meson sector are presented at nonzero baryon net density or temperature. We focus on the differences between pseudo-scalar and scalar as well as vector and axial-vector D mesons and derive the corresponding Weinberg type sum rules. Based on QCD sum rules we explore the consequences of a scenario for the rho meson, where the chiral symmetry breaking condensates are set to zero whereas the chirally symmetric condensates remain at their vacuum values. The complementarity of mass shift and broadening is discussed. An alternative approach which utilizes coupled Dyson-Schwinger and Bethe-Salpter equations for quark-antiquark bound states is investigated. For this purpose we analyze the analytic structure of the quark propagators in the complex plane numerically and test the possibility to widen the applicability of the method to the sector of heavy-light mesons in the scalar and pseudo-scalar channels, such as the D mesons, by varying the momentum partitioning parameter. The solutions of the Dyson-Schwinger equation in the Wigner-Weyl phase of chiral symmetry at nonzero bare quark masses are used to investigate a scenario with explicit but without dynamical chiral symmetry breaking.

Différents aspects de la physique nucléaire depuis les basses énergies jusqu'aux énergies intermédiaires / Different aspects of nuclear physics from low energies up to intermediate energiesLallouet, Yoann 19 December 2011 (has links)
This study focuses on different aspects of nuclear physics from low energies to intermediate ones. For the low energies, the nuclear matter is essentially constituted from interacting nucleons. Part I is on the fusion-fission of super-heavy elements, while Part II is on the Skyrme interactions-associated sum rules. In the case of the intermediate energies, where the nuclear matter is considered as being an hadronic phase mainly constituted from pions, Part III is focused on nuclear matter relativistic hydrodynamics with spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. In Part I, the formation and the desexcitation of super-heavy nuclei are being studied. We analyzed the formation of compound nuclei including the memory effects. For super-heavy nuclei desexcitation, the existence of isomeric state within the potential barrier modifies the desexcitation dynamics and increases the fission time. This latter study could be useful for the study of the actinides fission. In Part II, the phenomenological Skyrme effective interactions- associated M1 and M3 sum rules are being calculated based on their intrinsic definitions. We identify then M1 up to the tensorial level and M3 with central potential. In Part III, as for the hadronic matter hydrodynamics being applied to heavy ions collisions, and as a first approach only, we can neglect spontaneous chiral symmetry but certainly not the dissipative impact.
