MOVIMENTOS SOCIAIS EM REDE E A CONTRUÇÃO DE IDENTIDADES: A MARCHA DAS VADIAS SM E A EXPERIÊNCIA DO FEMINISMO EM REDES COMUNICAÇÃO / NETWORK SOCIAL MOVEMENTS AND THE IDENTITIES CONSTRUCTION: THE SLUT WALK- SM AND THE EXPERIENCE OF FEMINISM IN NETWORK COMMUNICATION

Tomazetti, Tainan Pauli 12 January 2015 (has links)
Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul / This study aims to investigate the construction process of collective identities in the social movement Slut Walk SM, collective action empirically located in Santa Maria, center of Rio Grande do Sul state in southern Brazil, from network communication dynamics built between the online and offline environments. We start, therefore, the conceptual approach that shapes the contemporary social movements along the processes of communication and information. Taking this premise in mind, we turn to the context of digital networks ubiquity and the Internet communication to reflect its appropriation in the effectuation and coordination of collective actions organization developed nowadays. With emphasis on communication processes, the work is performed from ethnographic experience in a communication research, in particular, from the combination of a field observations between online and offline environments. Thus, from a previous literature review, we define the cultural social movements as the Slut Walk, as analytical constructs developed around actions related to collective identities, oppositions, conflicts and struggle projects. Moreover, with the gender theory we present a brief conceptual framework about the universe of contemporary feminism and its contextual crossings on the ground of communication. Also, with the network society concept, we reflect the particularities of a social context organized through the communication and technological changes, and relate to the current configuration of the network social movements. From this, the research focuses on the interpretation of the research field reaching the settings that constitute the Slut Walk - SM as a social movement anchored by network communication logic through social uses of a Page and a Group of discussion in the social network Facebook. In the end, the study revealed that the communication network integrates the dynamics of identity construction of the Slut Walk under the scope of the differences, of gender policies, and senses about feminism. Senses, that are deliberate from the positions, opinions, debates and conflicts between the subjects in networks and on the streets.

Ecritures photographiques des identités collectives : classe, ethnicité, nation dans la photographie en Grande-Bretagne entre 1990 et 2010 / Photographic narratives of collective identities : class, ethnicity and nation in British photography from the 1990-2010 period

Chambefort, Karine 14 November 2014 (has links)
This thesis is based on a corpus of photography books and exhibitions dealing with social, ethnic, and national identities in Britain. It adopts a historicizing perspective by analysing the political and social contexts for the production and circulation of photographs, with special attention to cultural policies. Photographs and exhibitions are studied as narratives and practices that contribute to the formation of collective identities. The genre of photographs, and especially the notion of documentary, is discussed throughout the work, as a corollary to the question of identification. With a focus on representations, collective identities, culture and politics, this study lies in the field of cultural studies and regularly summons some of its prominent figures like Stuart Hall or Paul Gilroy. It shows that photography both documented and helped the dissolution of collective identities at the end of the 1990s, by questioning national identity and its representations, and by advocating greater cultural pluralism. As the social question became less prominent, photography departed from traditional social documentary forms and from the figure of the committed photographer. Parallel to this, in the wake of Black Arts, Black Photography was institutionalized with the creation of Autograph-ABP. It is also argued that when the New Labour party promoted a New Britain, some photographs acted as a magic mirror, revealing dissonances in the brand new narrative of a young, creative, multi-ethnic Britain. However, as photography entered the realm of contemporary art, it also became subject to the multiculturalist policies of the period and sometimes turned into a source of ethnicisation and essentialization. After 2001, as multiculturalism was questioned, photography kept documenting the diversity of British society and helped debunk stereotypes, especially those associated with Muslims and refugees in Britain. Finally, the late 2000s are analysed as a period when new modes of social cohesion are explored through photographic practices. Collaborative documentary projects are experimented to re-engage citizens. New photographs documenting the relation between people and territory in Britain seem to suggest that collective identification may rather be found in shared everyday experience.

Passive radicalisation without mobilisation : A narrative analysis of collective identities and emotions as driving forces of online radicalisation

Lewenhaupt, Ida January 2020 (has links)
Scholars often consider ideology a crucial factor for radicalisation, but some groups appear radical even though they have been described as lacking clear ideologies. This thesis will explore why members of the incel community appear radical despite the community’s lack of a rigid ideology. I explore this through a narrative analysis focusing on collective identities and emotions as narrated and potential driving forces of radicalisation. My study has identified two narratives, the incel as inferior and the incel as superior. The analysis shows that radicalisation is more prominent in the second narrative. In the first narrative, the victimhood and hopelessness serve as a foundation for the expressions of violence found in the second one based on perceived injustices. My findings suggest that the narration of collective identities and emotional dimensions is crucial for the radicalisation of members of the incel community since collective identities create a sense of belonging to the community and guide actions based on “emotional batteries”.

Les identités partagées comme facteur de paix et de stabilité : le cas du Bénin / Shared Identity as a Factor of Peace and Stability : A Case Study of Benin

Lawson, Boêvi Denis 12 July 2013 (has links)
Classical perspectives on the socio-political trajectory of the African continent are often pessimist. They will mostly remain so for some time to as contemporary history reveals a continent continually riddled with political instability and wracked by civil wars, whilst emerging democracies are subjected to tensions at the onset of elections. This work offers a reflection and an alternative scientific perspective by focusing on Benin. Since its Independence, Benin has not experienced lethal violence or pathological social chaos causing immense destruction and disaster. This thesis addresses and links several issues: a collective memory, relationships to other people, the idea that residents belong to a unity called Benin; the existence of symbols that benefit national consciousness; socialization aimed at achieving a sense of community; and a peace process. Tensions were at low lethality levels were present and still exist but have so far been limited. They characterize the contingent stages of a political society and its political history. Our theoretical approach privileges a general reflection on: the interaction between duality and otherness – there is always on “other” for an “other” – and the issue of peace; here (within a country), and elsewhere (abroad). Identity profiles are never the same across time and space. But beyond various differences, the fact that space promotes the emergence of collectively shared identities possibly contributes to the peace process. During the implementation of the peace process, the idea of Benin becomes stronger than Benin itself; an entity which is, first of all, substantive in nature. The Beninese are not in peace just because they have the same skin colour, the same history or a common language. Three years of field research (2007 – 2010) constituted the most important period of the empirical research that was used to demonstrate this. About a hundred interviews were conducted and focus group discussions were held within communities where the issue of shared identity was a daily problem. This doctoral study is therefore an account of results obtained and proposed analyses.

J-C.) / Funerary dynamics and identity affirmation in the East of Lasithi from the fourteenth to the fifth century B.C.E.

Labrude, Angélique 29 November 2014 (has links)
This doctoral thesis examining funerary dynamics in the east of Lassithi from the fourteenth to the fifth century B.C.E. has several aims. In the first instance, I seek to identify through the material vestiges the collective and codified practices that constitute the funerary rituals marked by a strong identitarian dimension. I also endeavour to grasp the territorial strategies used in the organisation of funerary sites in parallel to the major socio-political changes affecting Crete during the delicate transitional period marking the passage from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age. After an initial presentation of the spatio-temporal context and the vocabulary specific to the archaeology of death, the thesis turns towards the systematic description of each sepulchre in its own environment. This material data is subsequently combined with a thematic and comparative analysis of the necropolis. Finally, the systematic dimension of funerary dynamics in the east of Lassithi is considered in light of the Aegean chrono-cultural context.

Funerary Question and Social Fabric in San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas (Mexico) / Ciudad de Muertos.

Bermúdez Hernández, Luz del Rocío 20 June 2017 (has links)
The central aim of the theses is to reconstruct the social and cultural evolution of the city of San Cristobal de Las Casas in Chiapas (Mexico), since its foundation in 1528 until the first decades of the 20th century. It is focused on the only city’s cemetery established at the end of the 19th century, to further explore “the funerary question” as the broad range of beliefs, practices and material and mental imagery about Death and the memory of the dead. The study is addressed by three thematic axes articulated by the keywords secularization, panteón* and coleto. 1) Through secularization, the institutional rivalries between the Church and the State can be analyzed concerning the history of Chiapas, 2) By means of panteón* are examined the aspects relating the urban, artistic and ideological transformations caused by the new burial spatial organization and the emergence of new funerary practices in its former capital city, and 3) the demonym coleto is the key issue in the political and cultural matters behind the construction of the city’s and regional collective identities. The long-term perspective about the origin and development of this cemetery can bring a new questioning to that period of “modernization” in Chiapas. It can also help to reconsider the binary thought dominating the city for centuries, splitting it continuously between opposites such as religion/politics, colonial/national or indigenous/foreigner.

Srbská krsna slava v Bosně a Hercegovině / Serbian krsna slava in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Skenderija, Ivana January 2015 (has links)
This thesis focuses on issues of multi-layered identities within a social space. It analyzes ritual (or ceremony) as one of the codified displays of culture within which collective ideas and attitudes regarding identity are manifested, shared, and strengthened. Bosnian Serbs - due to political and social change - were forced to redefine their position in society, as well as their (collective) identities and social ties. Slava is a fundamental ritual seen as an attribute of "Serbianness", and in the context of this study, manifests itself as an indicator of establishment and validity of collective identities. Slava is a traditional celebration practiced by Orthodox believers in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Bulgary, Albania, and Macedonia. It is a festivity of either a family, village, or local church patron. At the center of this research will be an individual slava of a family patron saint, krsna slava, or krsno ime. For Bosnian Serbs, krsna slava is currently a revitalized ritual concurring with local tradition and convening with social ambitions of current inhabitants in the region (otherwise it would not be revitalized). The pertinence of this research subject is given by the nature of ritual itself as it is founded on collective sharing and the manifestation of common ideas1 ....
