Impacto da ambliopia estrabísmica e anisometrópica na visão de cores e de contraste espacial com diferentes níveis de complexidade / Impact of strabismic and anisometropic amblyopia in color vision and contrast sensitivity of different levels of complexity

Zagui, Roberta Melissa Benetti 24 May 2019 (has links)
Recent work has shown that beyond deficits on visual acuity many other perceptual visual functions (local and global) are affected. Purpose: To analyze and compare the impact of different types of amblyopia on visual processing of color vision and contrast sensitivity. Methods: We studied 42 amblyopes aged 7-40 years (strabismus n=16, anisometropia n=18 and mixed n=8 ) and 33 age-matched controls. We tested color vision by chromaticity threshold measurement for protan, deutan and tritan axes with Cambridge Color Test (CCT-v.2.0) and spatial contrast sensitivity of luminance (SC) of first order for spatial frequencies (sf) 0.4; 1.6; 3.2; 6.4; 12.8 cpd; second order for frequencies 0.4; 1.6; 3.2; 6.4 cpd and radial contrast for frequencies 0.4; 1.6; 3.2; 6.4; 12.8 cpd with Psyknematix System (v.1.4.3. Kybervision Consulting R&D). Results: Our results demonstrate no alterations on colour discrimination in amblyopes. Decrease of contrast sensitivity for first order stimuli for frequency 0.4 cpd (F = 3.24, p = 0.027) in dominant eyes of strabismic amblyopia and for 12.8 cpd (F = 6.71, p = 0.002) in nondominant eyes of amblyopic individuals with anisometropia and mixed cause; decrease of CS for second order stimuli for 12,8 cpd (F = 5.30, p = 0.002) in nondominant eyes of anisomotropic and mixed amblyopia and decrease of radial SC for frequency 1.6cpd (F = 3.79 , p = 0.014), 3.2cpd (F = 2.84, p = 0.044), 6.4cpd (F = 5.19, p = 0.003) and 12.8 cpd (F = 9.80, p <0.001 ) in non-dominant eyes of mixed amblyopia and for frequency 12.8 cpd for all amblyopia groups compared to control. Conclusion: There is no impact in color discrimination of any group of amblyopia. There are different impacts between types of amblyopia on contrast sensitivity of different levels of complexity. Mixed type presents the worst performance for all functions from the most elementary to the most complex stimuli

Racial profiling: Personal experiences that people of color face in Sweden The purpose of this study is to explore the personal experiences of racial profiling that people of color face in Sweden. Racial profiling is a social issue in the world today and a much-disputed subject in the Swedish society. The study was conducted with qualitative interviews with four people of color in Sweden. The intersectionality perspective was used as an analytical tool to analyze the experiences people of color face with the help of social constructionism theory. The results showed that all four interviewees have experienced racial profiling in different settings in their lives. In addition, the study showed that the interviewees’ experiences of racial profiling differed depending on the interviewees’ identity attributes such as gender, race, and their religious affiliation affecting their vulnerability and experiences of racial profiling. The findings also show that the four informants have experienced and are vulnerable to everyday racism in Sweden due to the existing prejudices in the Swedish society.

Racial Disproportionality as Experienced by Educators of Color: The Evaluation Process and Educators of Color

MacNeal, Jr., Roderick Victor January 2018 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Lauri Johnson / The purpose of this individual study was to address the gap in research and answer the following research question: How do educators of color perceive the evaluation process and its impact on their professional growth and development? It was part of a larger group case study that sought to capture the perceptions of educators of color related to racial disproportionality and its impact on the educator pipeline and schools. As educators of color work to maintain a presence within the educational system, it is essential to study how perceived biases related to race may impact the evaluation process. This single case study attempted to capture how five administrators of color and five teachers of color employed by the Cityside Public School District perceived the evaluation process used within their district. Additionally, a document review of union contracts was used to ascertain the evaluation process used by Cityside. The Critical Race Theory tenets of permanence of racism, counter storytelling and critique of liberalism provided a theoretical framework to analyze the responses given by each participant who participated in semi-structured interviews. Findings reveal that the majority of the participants do not believe the evaluation process has improved their growth and development. Other findings revealed that the racial identity and the level of cultural competency of the evaluator impacted whether or not participants believed their race was a factor in how they were evaluated. / Thesis (EdD) — Boston College, 2018. / Submitted to: Boston College. Engineering of NV color centers in diamond for their applications in quantum information and magnetometry / Ingénierie de centres colorés NV du diamant pour l’information quantique et magnétométrie

Lesik, Margarita 03 March 2015 (has links)
The Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) color center is a defect of diamond which behaves as an artificial atom hosted in a solid-state matrix. Due to its electron spin properties which can be read-out and manipulated as an elementary quantum system, the NV center has found a wide panel of applications as a qubit for quantum information and as a magnetic field sensor. However these applications require to control the properties of the NV centers and their localization. This doctoral thesis investigates methods allowing us to tailor the properties of NV centers by combining techniques for the implantation of nitrogen atoms and the plasma-assisted (CVD) synthesis of diamond. The manuscript is divided into six chapters. The first chapter summarizes the properties of the NV center which will set our objectives for the NV engineering. The second chapter will describe how arrays of NV centers can be created using Focused Ion Beam implantation. The results open a wide range of applications for the targeted creation of NV centers in diamond structures such as photonic crystals and tips. However the low kinetic energy which is required for achieving implantation within a spot of 10-nm diameter leads to shallow defects which properties are strongly affected by the sample surface. The third chapter investigates how the overgrowth of a diamond layer over implanted NV centers can remove the detrimental influence of the surface. The fourth and fifth chapters describe effective methods for NV center fabrication through the control of the CVD growth conditions of the hosting crystal. Thin layers with high NV doping can be grown and almost perfect control of the orientation of the NV axis can be achieved. With the goal to optimize the spin coherence properties, the sixth chapter investigates how the electron spin of the NV center can be protected from decoherence effects induced by magnetic noise due to the unpolarized spins in the diamond lattice.

Stroop color coding and the relationship of personality in performance : An experimental study on Stroop color coding controlling for personality traits

Lundgren, Fanny, Filip, Modin Håkansson January 2019 (has links)
The Stroop Color coding and word test (Stroop, 1935) is a well-known phenomenon investigating cognitive inhibition, cognitive speed, attention and cognitive flexibility. The Stroop effect refers when processing a stimulus while being exposed to another stimuli simultaneous interfering with the first (Scarpina & Tagini, 2017). This study focuses on a performance part of the Stroop color coding and word test and its relation to personality traits in the HEAXCO-PR using the Mini-IPIP6 (Ashton & Lee, 2007; Sibely, 2012). An experiment was conducted with the control group ( N = 30 ) solving a Stroop color coding and word test and the experiment group ( N = 30) being exposed to two stimuli (audio and visual) with purpose to induce stress. The result of an independent t-test indicated that you can manipulate the result of a Stroop test measuring two outcome variables (Time and Error). One-way MANCOVA was performed with the personality traits used as covariates. The analysis indicated that Extraversion had a significant small impact on Time (F (1,52) = 6.872, p = .011 η2 = .117) ) and Openness had an effect on Error (F (1,52) = 3.167, p = .008 η2 = .057). Openness showed a significant effect on error rate in the performance. Extraversion showed significant effect as a covariate on the completion time of the test. Time and Error showed a significant correlation. To establish the relationship between cognitive inhibition and personality more research is required. More research is also required for the result of this theoretical study to potentially become applicable.

Narrativas da luz / -

Angerami, Paulo Mattos 08 April 2016 (has links)
The project \"narratives of light\" is a reflection on time. The research is scoped to the field of poetry and the gaze is focused on photography, in other words, it is an investigation on the phenomenon of inscription of time in the photographic image. The proposal was to produce images where even showing the inscription of time the snapshot look - as far as possible - would still be there. The expedient adopted was to use the color of light and its intensity to give visibility to the passing time by pouring slowly and continuously these lights over the space. In order to achieve such an outcome it was necessary to design and build a unique photographic device that involves mechanical features, electronics, mathematics and computing. The outcome is a photographic series - which is still in process - and a few unfoldings that emerged from these photographs. The resulting series consists of images with 10 meters or more in length that break, in many different ways, the photography paradigm.

Oliveira, Guilherme Venancio de 15 September 2017 (has links)
The use of chitosan as binder has become relevant due to its chemical structure which is responsible for its biodegradable and antibacterial good. The present study is aimed to the use of chitosan to aid in the fixation of pigmented dyes used in digital printing. A carboxymethylcellulose was also tested. The chitosan was dissolved in 2% (v / v) acetic acid at the concentrations of 5, 10, 15 and 22.2 g / L, while a carboxymethylcellulose was dissolved in water at 14.28 g / L. applied as pre and post treatments in cotton mesh by two different processes, Foulard and silk-screen. The presence of polymers impregnated in the cotton fibers was evaluated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The treated and untreated mesh samples were washed 54 times simulating the use of a T-shirt for one year and evaluated in spectrophotometer for color fastness to wash, using the CIELAB E * system. The results showed that the use of chitosan and carboxymethylcellulose as a post-treatment improved the color wash performance in 64% when evaluated by CIELAB E * and 68% when evaluated by gray scale. The samples with application of chitosan and carboxymethylcellulose as pre-treatments presented lower values of color fastness, when compared to the post-treated samples
