Παναγιώταρου, Αλίκη 05 February 2015 (has links)
The concept of angle is a key concept that contributes significantly to the development of geometric knowledge of students. Similarly, the angle measurement is an integral part of mathematics, science and technology and daily life. Studies have shown that students often face difficulties with the concept and measurement of angle predominantly by the fact that the concept is abstract and multifaceted depending on each class. So often students face difficulties and lead to misunderstandings when learning the concepts and the acquisition of the relevant skills

Doing more with less? convergence and public interest in the New Zealand news media

Walker, Tamara January 2009 (has links)
The traditional news media is being reshaped by the phenomenon known as media convergence. This thesis, which is presented as a journalistic, multimedia website (see http://www.artsweb.aut.ac.nz/mediaconvergence), explores media convergence in New Zealand. Its primary objective is to gauge the impact of convergence on the extent to which journalism fulfils its public interest duties. To this end, the defining elements of convergence are examined, along with its driving factors and impact on day-to-day newsroom practices. The research project is based on in-depth interviews with news media experts and practitioners and the results of an industry survey. The research findings indicate that convergence poses significant risks to public interest journalism. At present, however, there is more evidence of benefits than detriments.

Quantitative methods for knowledge spillover analysis: an application to the Campinas\' Information Technology and Communications Cluster.

Veneziano de Castro Araújo 28 January 2008 (has links)
This dissertation goals are review some quantitative studies of knowledge spillovers and test its tools in a brazilian case. These methods are largely adopted in international literature and, after the review, two of theses methods have been applied to the Campinas Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Local System. The discussion about characteristics, qualities and limitations of five types of studies (knowledge production function, patent citation, mobility of skilled worker, commerce of new products and informal contacts) induced to adopt the informal contact method as the main tool of analysis and a variant of patent citation that uses scientific articles citations as the primordial indicator. The questionnaire was responded by professionals engaged in ICT activities in several Campinass firms. Among the results, some are more expressive. First, there is a great presence of knowledge spillovers at Campinas region and it is an important way that ICT firms workers gain access to knowledge. Second, more skilled employees and that with more experience tend to obtain more valorous knowledge from theirs colleagues. Third, the multinationals workers gain less knowledge from theirs informal contacts because they has access to other forms inside the firm to solve problems, otherwise, the brazilian firms employees tend to use their colleagues to solve problems. Finally, with the analysis of scientific articles citations, it is possible to see some evidence that the knowledge is really locally concentrated because the great majority of citations are to works with authors linked to Campinas institutions.

This development stemmed from the realization that more important than facilities, equipment and technology are the people, the organization’s human resources. And their importance comes not only from the work they do, but, above all, from the knowledge they possess. Since tacit knowledge is inherent to learning and to practice, it cannot be displayed without the express desire of those who possess it. Within this new context, Knowledge Management (KM) has emerged to put into practice ways of making knowledge a management object, not only to be used as a measure of competitive difference, but to adapt to today’s increasingly dynamic scenario. In consequence, a case study is presented that discusses KM in the sector responsible for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) within a Federal Institution of Higher Education. Firstly, a survey was done of the sector’s current situation (structure, technology and human resources) and the possible relationship to KM; a parallel is then drawn between existing knowledge and needs, followed by a description of an IT tool compatible with a KM initiative; finally, based on the information collected in the previous steps, an evaluation is presented of the existing knowledge potential as well as its contribution to the research site’s activities.

Hansson, Malin, Sonesson, Gunilla January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to describe the thoughts of a number of teachers regarding how a social robot could be helpful in school situations for children who have long-term school absenteeism (remote students). There is no current research in this area, thus this investigation focus on how the social robot works for students with high absence due to illness instead.Four interviews were conducted with teachers with experience working with the social robot AV1. The starting point in the interviews was to capture how the teachers think the social robots could be an alternative to facilitate the return to school for remote students. Also the teachers´ experience on how a social robot could be used for students with problems such as social phobia or autism was discussed. The interviews were analysed from a socio-cultural perspective with assistance from coding and thematization from the content in the transcribed interviews.Based on the interviews, no distinct conclusion could be drawn regarding the success of a social robot in promoting the return to school of remote students. However, we have found examples in one interview which supported the use of the social robot, and were able to note the possibilities and obstacles according to the respondents. All the respondents have expressed themselves in a positive way about using social robots in the classroom. However, all were not as positive regarding the use of social robots to attempt to get children who have long-term school absenteeism back to school. In the final part of the thesis the amplifications of the results are discussed and what new questions that have arisen. The concept of social robots is a rather new phenomenon in the school environment and our work has demonstrated that there are many new areas to research to find out what new possibilities the social robots can offer. This is a new world with tools and methods that are novel, but which can be beneficial to education. Rather than being intimidated by innovative technology instruments, we must embrace their possibilities for enhancing student learning.

The Organisational Challenges of Implementing eHealth Services: : A Case Study on The Patient Self-Test Application in Centre for Rheumatology

Danial, Javani January 2017 (has links)
It is widely believed that eHealth will play a vital role in the development and shaping of healthcare systems in the twenty first century. However, despite all documented reports and benefits of eHealth technologies, many attempts to extend successful pilot projects have not sufficiently met promised results and to a large extent failed. The purpose of this study is to investigate the Centre for Rheumatology’s current implementation process of eHealth services in order to identify success factors and improvement areas. To reach the purpose, the research was delimitated to solely focus on the eHealth service Patient Self-Test and the implementation of it at the care unit. The research was conducted as a case study with a qualitative approach based on the notion of induction. The research process consisted of three major areas: pre-study, literature review and qualitative interviews. The pre-study was based on interviews with different actors within the health care industry in Sweden to provide an academic, political and business perspective of the research area. The literature review focused on the areas eHealth and change management and empirical data was gathered through qualitative interviews. Moreover, to have a tool for analysis, a research framework named 4 Seasons Model was developed. The results of the thesis indicate on a gap between how the literature advocates the implementation of transitional changes, and how it is currently done at Centre for Rheumatology’s. Based on an analysis from a 4 Seasons Model perspective, three success factors and seven improvement areas have been identified in Centre for Rhematology’s current implementation process of the Patient Self-Test.

Qualitatively exploring the suitability of tablet computers to encourage participation with activities by people with moderate stage dementia

Smith, S.K., Mountain, Gail, Hawkins, R.J. 30 September 2018 (has links)
no / Introduction: Opportunities to participate with enjoyable activities is one of the most frequently reported unmet needs by the person living with dementia. Enabling and intuitive technologies may offer accessible ways to engage with such activities. Objectives: To explore how tablet computers might encourage participation in enjoyable activities by people with moderate levels of dementia and to consider how such technologies might be incorporated into the repertoire of activities currently provided through day care settings. Methods: A focused visual ethnographic approach was developed specifically to meet the research objectives. Twelve participants attending a community day care centre and nine supporters (both volunteers and paid staff) consented to take part in the research. Technology facilitated group activity sessions took place twice a week for a period of four weeks and all were video recorded. Findings: Video analysis demonstrated that the majority of people with dementia found the technology an effective means of participating in enjoyable activities. Analysis also revealed the extent to which participation relies on the existence of effective support. It showed how maintaining focus on retained strengths and abilities enabled the group overall to meet and often exceed their own and others perceived capacity to participate. Finally, analysis confirmed the importance of enjoyment of activities ‘in the moment’ and the need for those supporting people in the moderate stages of dementia to acknowledge and work with this. Conclusion: The use of tablet computers to enhance participation in sociable and enjoyable activities in day care settings is realistic and achievable if supported appropriately.

Virtual Realities for Remote Working : Exploring employee's attitudes toward the use of Metaverse for remote working

Karlsson, Lina, Shamoun, Micaela January 2022 (has links)
Introduction: Ever since the transition to digital ways of working startedspreading across organizations and industries in the late 1970s, remoteworking has been a topic of interest. With the development of information andcommunications technology, virtual realities are now receiving more attentionwith a broader view of potential application areas. The application of virtualrealities is expanding. Hence, the concept of Metaverse has received a greatdeal of attention. Metaverse is a virtual reality idea where people create avatarsthat exist in a three-dimensional virtual world. While the use of virtual realitiesis expanding on new ways of working, users’ attitudes toward thesetechnological developments are important to consider as it can either increasethe benefits of working from home or highlight the negative aspects evenmore. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to explore the attitudes towards the useof virtual realities for remote working in the case of employees withinorganizations in Sweden. The aim is to further provide an understanding as towhat organizations need to consider following the increased use of virtualrealities. Research Questions: What are the attitudes of employees towards the use ofvirtual realities for remote working? How can organizations adapt to theimplementation of virtual realities for remote working to continuously ensurea positive work environment for its employees?  Methodology: In order to reach the purpose of this study and answer theresearch questions, a qualitative research approach was deemed appropriatefor this study to understand the “what” and “how” aspects of the use of virtualrealities for remote work. Semi-structured interviews were chosen as the datacollection method where the respondents were employees within organizationsin Sweden. Conclusion: The key takeaways are that attitudes toward virtual realities forremote working are complex. The main themes discussed around remoteworking were control and freedom to decide over one’s work and the loss ofcomradery with colleagues and social isolation. New technology, such asMetaverse, has to ensure it continues providing employees with control overtheir work but solves the issues of social isolation while still not eliminatingphysical interactions between colleagues completely. Management has todeeply consider the needs of the individual employee before implementingnew technology, gathering an understanding of what is expected and neededby their specific employees to better ensure successful implementation.
