Elementos de jogos digitais inclusivos para gameplay no contexto das pessoas com deficiência sob a perspectiva da interação corporificada / Inclusive digital game elements for gameplay in the context of people with disabilities through embodied interaction perspective

Leite, Patrícia da Silva 13 December 2017 (has links)
The act of playing is a way for the player to be in the world and to understand what is around her, to experience different realities and to identify herself with the discussions provided by the game. Used as a generator of meanings for society and for people, games can be understood as artifacts that must be accessible to all members of society, particularly digital games, considering they are one of the most comprehensive technologies nowadays, through which social, cultural, political and economic discussions are held. Reflecting on the sociocultural role of digital games and their relevance to people, arises the question about people with disabilities, how these people use digital games, how they are represented in digital games, and how they are engaged in the process of digital games development. In this sense, the present research uses Critical Analysis as the main method to conduct discussions about the stages of concept and elaboration of the fundamental elements of inclusive digital games for gameplay, from the perspective of people with disabilities in the light of Embodied Interaction theory. Thus, considering the principles of inclusion to address the elements of games and articulate the stages of development of inclusive digital games with Embodied Interaction, argue, in this research, how new concepts and perspectives can contribute to support the design of games towards the inclusion of people with disabilities, not only as players, but also as characters and game developers. These perceptions provide new ways of thinking and developing inclusive digital games, so that in the construction of these artifacts are considered the repercussion of the use of games in society, which occurs through the representations, values and meanings expressed by the games.

A CyberCIEGE scenario illustrating multilevel secrecy issues in an air operations center environment

Meyer, Marc K. 06 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited / CyberCIEGE provides an addition to traditional Information Assurance (IA) education in the form of an interactive, entertaining, commercial-grade PC-based computer game. Educational objectives are contained in scenarios that serve to teach particular IA concepts. The details of a scenario are contained in a Scenario Definition File (SDF), which is written in the CyberCIEGE Scenario Definition Language. This language is rich enough to express a range of information security policies and operational data access requirements, resulting in a nearly limitless pool of possible scenarios. This thesis developed a playable scenario illustrating confidentiality protection concepts in an open storage environment modeled after an Air Operations Center. Educational goals include physical protection of high value assets and use of strong authentication policies to protect moderate value assets. The major work of this thesis was designing an SDF to reflect a military information security policy and work flow environment contained in the educational goals. The confirmation of the proper operation of selected aspects of the CyberCIEGE game engine, and the assurance that the SDF confronts the player with the security trade-offs occurred through the application of a testing methodology. The creation of detailed solutions and incorrect gameplay examples constitute this testing process. / Captain, United States Air Force

CyberCIEGE scenario illustrating secrecy issues through mandatory and discretionary access control policies in a multi-level security network

LaMore, Robert L. 06 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release, distribution is unlimited / User training in computer and network security is crucial to the survival of modern networks, yet the methods employed to train users often seem ineffective. One possible reason is that users are not fully engaged during these training sessions and thus they tend to forget the lessons being taught. The CyberCIEGE game introduces a new method of training in computer and network security. The player engages in a simulation-based network security game, that reflects real-world security principles. Each time the CyberCIEGE game runs, it loads a Scenario Definition File (SDF) written to teach specific security concepts. This thesis developed such a scenario definition file for the CyberCIEGE game. The educational purpose of the scenario is to illustrate secrecy issues in the context of mandatory and discretionary access control in a multilevel networked environment. The primary work of this thesis was to construct the scenario definition file such that playing the resulting game would achieve this educational purpose. This thesis also resulted in the construction of scenario definition files to test the CyberCIEGE game engine for expected results. These tests resulted in several recommendations for improvement in the game engine. / First Lieutenant, United States Air Force

The use of massive multiplayer online games to evaluate C4I systems

Juve, Kambra R. 03 1900 (has links)
Approved for public release, distribution is unlimited / Human Systems Integration Report / In the past few years, Massive Multiplayer Online Games (MMOG) have gained in popularity in the gaming industry, the public and the Department of Defense. Improvements to computer technology and the increased data transfer rate over networks have caused the potential applications for networked environments to blossom. MMOGs are a product of these improvements, as technological advancements have made it possible for the masses to gain access to virtual environments and participate. The ability to communicate and interact within the virtual environment has the potential to make MMOG technology an ideal tool for evaluating C4I systems. The design and evaluation of C4I systems with MMOGs has the potential to allow for exploration in the areas of warfighter effectiveness, emergent behavior, collective decision making, human systems integration and effective information flow. This thesis strives to illustrate how a C4I system modeled in an MMOG can aid designers in gathering insights on the effectiveness of the system in various combat situations. The insights will be gathered through the interactions of players with the modeled system in the virtual environment. The human interaction with the modeled C4I system provides the ability to capture the effects of the C4I system on the warfighter. The resultant effects of the C4I system on the warfighter directly contribute to the overall combat effectiveness of the deployed military forces. The background of MMOGs and C4I systems, and attributes of MMOGs that are desirable in evaluating C4I systems are introduced and discussed. FORCEnet, a global C4I architecture still in the conceptual phase is then used as an example to illustrate the potential rewards to using MMOGs to evaluate C4I systems. / Lieutenant, United States Navy

Aggressiva barn på grund av våldsamma datorspel? : En litteraturstudie / Aggressive children due to violent computer games? : A literature review

Nyström, Dennis January 2016 (has links)
Playing computergames is to many children a fun and popular hobby and there are various kinds of games that children play. Many children play violent computergames which has attracted attention in schools. They have observed that children who played violent computergames played in an aggressive and violent manner in the schoolyard. Within science the connection between violent computergames and children has been observed and there has been much research in the field to find out if children who plays violent computergames becomes more aggressive and violent when they play these games. Research on the other hand is contradictory whether children who play violent computergames becomes more aggressive and violent. Purpose of the study is to investigate what are the support for in research who speaks for or against that children who plays violent computergames becomes aggressive and violent and why research is contradictory in this area. The result in the study is when only the connection between violent computergames and aggressiveness is measured the connection seems to be stronger that children who plays violent computergames also exhibit higher levels of aggression. What speaks against that children who plays violent computergames exhibit higher aggression levels is that when other background variables is considered the connection between violent computergames and aggression seems to decrease or disappear. How the term aggression is interpreted and that some scientist conducts research that shows a relation that children who plays violent computergames becomes more aggressive when playing these games and other scientists conducts research that shows the opposite are reasons that research are contradictionary in the area.

Heller, Jakub January 2015 (has links)
The focus of this thesis is research of interaction which takes place between players and computer games. Specifically on ethical and moral aspects of such interaction in which the players are required to make moral decisions that in any way affect the progression of the story, shaping of the virtual world, or have any other effect on the in-game narration. The goal of this text is to describe context in which such moral decisions are made and factors that influence them. The theoretical part of this thesis has the form of a summary of relevant game studies topics, which influence the moral decision making issue. Research was conducted on a group of ten respondents, who played The Walking Dead game and who shared their experiences by answering questions concerning moral decision making. The gathered data was thereafter analysed using a grounded theory method, which allowed me to identify and contextualize the researched phenomena. The main output of this text is the grounded theory itself and the answers provided by its application in context with research questions.

Färgassociationer i environmental storytelling : En undersökning om uppfattningen av färg på 3D-modeller i dataspel / Color Associations in Environmental Storytelling : A study on the interpretation of color on 3D models in computer games

Hellsten, Felicia January 2017 (has links)
