POÉTICAS VISUAIS EM CONSTRUÇÃO: A METAMORFOSE EXPRESSIVA DA CRIANÇA E A EDUCAÇÃO (DO) SENSÍVEL / UNDER COSTRUCTION VISUAL POETICS: THE EXPRESSIVE METAMORPHOSIS OF THE CHILD AND THE EDUCATION OF SENSORIAL ASPECTS

Schneider, Letícia Uhmann 17 May 2007 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This research, linked to the Teaching Post-Graduating Course, Arts Educational field, has been developed in a third (3rd) grade class of the Antônio Alves Ramos school, at the city of Santa Maria, RS. Aimed to know and analyze the under constructing creative process of the Initial Years children, providing time and space to the poetic action-experience, in the interacting with the education of the sensorial aspects. For that, articulates a dialogue with voices and ideas of Bachelard (1988, 1989, 1994), Richter (2005), Duarte Jr. (2001), Martins(1998), Maturana and Varela (2002) and Barbosa (2001, 2002). The methodology used in the research was based in the qualitative nature principles by the action-research. Presents itself as participant research, sustained by experiences of art poetics and fruition of daily school experience, emphasizing the imaginary, the creative process and dimension of being a person, not just the final artistic product. The instruments used for gathering data for this research were participative and free observation, field diary and portfolio. For that, in the creative process of children visual poetics, became obvious that the body carries a history - body time - and we can not teach them how to see, imagine, think or act like the adults. The act of creation demanded differentiated times, since each child understood the world in a different way, in their inexperience - another time aspect - admired, enamored, wondered, curious. The under constructing visual poetics allow with pleasure, internal discoveries which feed the person essence in a way to be able to feel, touch, mix, stick together, shape, plot, collect. Therefore, work with art is to believe in the tuning between pleasure and feeling, emotion and thought to construct a world of significance and significants. A world of colors, words, thoughts and actions, where art and knowledge interact on the poetic work and collaborate significantly in childish formation.

: En kvalitativ studie gällande grov kvinnofridskränkning i svensk domstol / Fearful, Subdued and with a Touch of Resistance? : A Qualitative Study of the Constructions of the Plaintiff and Defendant in Court cases regarding Domestic Violence

Solberg, Jessica, Kocsis, Charlotte January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine constructions within the Swedish legal system of the plaintiff and the defendant in court cases involving domestic violence. Nils Christies theory of the ideal victim in addition with Strobls criterions was used as theoretical framework. The methodological approach of this study belongs to the critical linguistics. The analysis contained both freeing sentences and convictions during 2016 in Gothenburg's District Court. The result revealed that different types of constructions were present in the material, both regarding the plaintiff and the defendant. It is our belief that in the convicted cases the woman is being described as more fearful and subdued. The cases where the defendant was found guilty contained more vivid descriptions of the violence and the women’s fear. We could see that the plaintiffs response to the violence seemed to be of great importance. The less resistance the better. The analysis also revealed signs of variation in the court´s ruling between similar cases. This with regard to what extent the woman cooperated during the legal process.

Douglas Adams : analysing the absurd

Van der Colff, Margaretha Aletta 21 August 2008 (has links)
This research emerges from an observation that Douglas Adams’s Hitch Hiker Series is not merely characterised by light-hearted comedy, but is underpinned by intricate philosophical ideas, especially those of twentieth century Existentialism and the related notion of absurdity. The study also investigates the interlaced functions of Adams’s fantasy and landscapes of alterity. Paradoxically, Adams’s fantastical creatures serve to illuminate the human condition and the follies and monstrosities that lurk at the heart of humanity. Not only does Adams’s fantasy mirror the maladies of twentieth century society, thus serving a satirical function, but it is also a mechanism for constructing meaning in the shape of alternative realities. Concepts related to alterity, such as simulation (Baudrillard), the structure of ‘reality’, dreaming (Descartes) and parallel universes are investigated as building blocks of Adams’s fantastic story space. Furthermore, the ideas of Sartre, Camus and other originators of Existentialism, a philosophy which considers the futility of existence and the compulsion to construct subjective meaning, are elucidated and explored in relation to Adams’s work. Existentialist concepts such as facticity and angst, as well as the Beckettian universe and the Theatre of the Absurd, are also discussed in the light of the Hitch Hiker series. Adams’s extensive satirical comment is also emphasised in this study. Adams’s satire does not merely castigate the evils of twentieth century society such as capitalism and bureaucracy, it also unmasks universal human vices such as pomposity and grandiosity, vices that are rooted in the rejection of objective morality. Although Adams comments on the folly at the heart of society, he also presents the reader with an alternative: the subjective reconstruction of one’s inner world in an attempt to spin individual webs of meaning from the nothingness at the world’s core. This study also investigates the ambiguous concept of madness as a subjective reality born of the necessity to construct meaning, and analyses Adams’s alternative landscapes based on the suggestion that ‘much madness is divinest sense’ (Emily Dickenson, in Ferguson et al., 1996: 1015). / Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2008. / English / MA / unrestricted

Co-constructing knowledge in a psychology course for health professionals : a narrative analysis

Grobler, Ilze 21 June 2007 (has links)
The ever-changing demands of working life pose considerable challenges to higher education. The literature indicates that traditional forms of university instruction positioned a deficit model of teaching and learning, which is embedded in a logical positivist paradigm, as authoritative in the production of ‘experts’ who possess legitimate knowledge. However, in professional practice, health practitioners often deal with ill-defined problems. If health practitioners are to be prepared properly for their future careers, the development of reflective thinking should be an integral component of professional education courses. The aim of this study was to explore the public narratives on existing teaching and learning practices in higher education, orthotics/prosthetics and psychology, and to examine the authority of these narratives in the unfolding stories of students and the facilitator in a pilot applied psychology course designed for orthotist/prosthetist professionals. There is a paucity of psychological research in orthotic/prosthetic practice and further research in this domain is needed, particularly from a qualitative approach. A story map was used to integrate the methodology of personal experience methods and narrative analysis into one model that represents the voice of public and private narratives in a specific temporality of past, present and future. The analysis of public and private texts revealed the narrative themes of teaching and learning, co-constructing knowledge, reflection-on-practice, disability, community of concern and agency. A critical psychology and social constructionist approach is proposed to facilitate reflective clinical practice in a psychology module for orthotics and prosthetics. In a collaborative learning community, the lived experiences, knowledge, skills, and desires that invited orthotist/prosthetists into this helping field are honoured. In addition, they are encouraged to reflect on the value of professional interventions by using pragmatic criteria of whether an approach fits or is useful for a client, rather than relying on some abstract notion of ‘truth’. / Thesis (PhD (Psychology))--University of Pretoria, 2007. / Psychology / unrestricted

Principles for engaging learners in the construction of school newspapers

Wheeler, Odette Winnefred 16 August 2012 (has links)
It is imperative that learners leave school with a certain set of core skills, none as important as communication and technology literacy, a key driver for future workplace employment. The critical question is how to motivate pupils to participate in an interesting, challenging and creative project to improve essential communication techniques and capabilities? The rationale of the study is to enable future editors of school newspapers to create a similar environment in which the learners that are members of the editorial team will be involved in the construction of a school newspaper. The rationale of the study relating to the learners, who are part of the editorial team, is to develop 21st Century Skills and therefore enable them to overcome complicated demands that they are exposed to in the Knowledge Age. This dissertation presents a real-life, initiative to encourage active participation in the construction of a school newspaper that will develop learners’ skills and confidence and improve their oral, written and multi-media communication. The findings of this dissertation aim to prove that the group production of a school newspaper can enhance learners’ ability to participate and communicate in a group environment and equip them with essential 21st Century skills. / Dissertation (MEd)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Education Management and Policy Studies / unrestricted

Gehrke, Jörg 12 February 2013 (has links)

Co-construction of Leadership in an Intercultural Context from a Follower’s Perspective : A Qualitative Case Study in the Finance Industry about the Dyadic Relationship between Manager and Employee

Cromphout, Kaat, Ruttenberg, Floris January 2023 (has links)
Introduction: The co-construction of leadership is a relatively new theoretical concept thatis growing in demand in the field of science. Since our global workforce becomes moreheterogenous and attitudes towards leader-follower relationships evolve, a successfulinteraction between leaders and followers becomes more central to the overall functioningof an organisation. With a global business climate that gradually shifts its focus onemploying more horizontal modes of organising, more emphasis is put on improving thequality of dyadic work relationships. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the esteemed role of follower behaviourin the co-construction of leadership in an intercultural context. Since most literatureemphasis on leader-follower relationships we are interested in exploring a follower-centricperspective on the co-construction of leadership. By adding the aspect of interculturalcontexts, a broader understanding of the impact of culture and communication can beapplied to this study. Research methodology: This study is a case study based on a qualitative research methodwith an inductive research approach. We have held nine recorded semi-structuredinterviews nearly equally spread between leaders and followers with different culturalbackgrounds working for a MNC in the finance industry. We have created a conceptualtheoretical model which was constructed based on findings of empirical data, which isbased on the following five themes - follower behaviour, leader behaviour, working in anintercultural context, leader-follower relationship, and co-construction of leadership. Results and analysis: The result of this study reveals that follower behaviour, leaderbehaviour, dyadic leader-follower relationships, and constructive communication areimportant aspects to have knowledge of to comprehend what actions can be undertaken tofacilitate the co-construction of leadership in an intercultural context. Conclusion: The role of follower behaviour in the co-construction of leadership in anintercultural context plays an active role in the co-constructing of leadership. Bydisplaying certain desirable behaviour and traits, as well as communicating constructively, followers can positively influence leadership. This can be facilitated by leaders that enablefollowers with trust, partnership and growth. In addition, interculturality adds anadditional layer that encompasses diverse perspectives and approaches and encouragespersonal growth.

Bayesian belief networks for dementia diagnosis and other applications : a comparison of hand-crafting and construction using a novel data driven technique

Oteniya, Lloyd January 2008 (has links)
The Bayesian network (BN) formalism is a powerful representation for encoding domains characterised by uncertainty. However, before it can be used it must first be constructed, which is a major challenge for any real-life problem. There are two broad approaches, namely the hand-crafted approach, which relies on a human expert, and the data-driven approach, which relies on data. The former approach is useful, however issues such as human bias can introduce errors into the model. We have conducted a literature review of the expert-driven approach, and we have cherry-picked a number of common methods, and engineered a framework to assist non-BN experts with expert-driven construction of BNs. The latter construction approach uses algorithms to construct the model from a data set. However, construction from data is provably NP-hard. To solve this problem, approximate, heuristic algorithms have been proposed; in particular, algorithms that assume an order between the nodes, therefore reducing the search space. However, traditionally, this approach relies on an expert providing the order among the variables --- an expert may not always be available, or may be unable to provide the order. Nevertheless, if a good order is available, these order-based algorithms have demonstrated good performance. More recent approaches attempt to ''learn'' a good order then use the order-based algorithm to discover the structure. To eliminate the need for order information during construction, we propose a search in the entire space of Bayesian network structures --- we present a novel approach for carrying out this task, and we demonstrate its performance against existing algorithms that search in the entire space and the space of orders. Finally, we employ the hand-crafting framework to construct models for the task of diagnosis in a ''real-life'' medical domain, dementia diagnosis. We collect real dementia data from clinical practice, and we apply the data-driven algorithms developed to assess the concordance between the reference models developed by hand and the models derived from real clinical data.

Approche info-communicationnelle des opérations de réhabilitation de l'habitat : de la compréhension des interactions acteurs/habitat à l'amélioration des stratégies d'intervention / Information-communication approach to habitat rehabilitation operations : from understanding stakeholder/habitat interactions to improving intervention strategies

Quentin, Maxime 12 December 2016 (has links)
The sustainable development and the energetic transition as well are main concerns in Europe. The construction sector is a fundamental driver of the reduction of the carbon footprint. Furthermore, most of the current practices does not take enough into account neither the occupants’ needs nor their behavior regarding the energetic performance. Grounded on the information-communication framework, this research focuses on the definition of the interactions between the actor and its habitat to lead the strategies of rehabilitation. In line with the semantico-actional paradigm, we provide evidence that a comprehensive approach enables the analysis of the process by which the users apprehend and appropriate a living space perceived as comfortable. Practically, it ensues from this analysis a better definition of the users’ needs and a guideline for the construction stakeholders to collect information about users’ expectations so as to satisfy them. In a sake of functionality economics concerning the thermal comfort, the purpose of this interdisciplinary investigation is twofold: First, the understanding of the users’ sense-making about the environment of the habitat. Second, the definition and the implementation of operating behavioral metrics in the technical optimization of the habitat. Referring to the method of listening to the needs and hierarchy of needs, developed by the DEVISU research center of the University of Valenciennes (France), we interpret the perceived comfort according to the main users’ profile in order to integrate it in the technical processes of rehabilitation.
