Project Workers' Mental Health in Focus : Understanding Stressors and Supportive Strategies in PBOs

Misskam, Anna, Schoch, Natalie January 2023 (has links)
Background: Project-based organizations have become increasingly important in theory and practice. In these kinds of organizations core activities are performed by means of projects which offer advantages such as adaptability and flexibility. Yet, the project-based work context also bears risks for the mental health of the employees involved. Purpose: The research objective of this study is to enhance our holistic understanding of mental health promotion in project-based organizations from the perspective of individual project workers. The focus is on challenges that project workers face in their project-based work regarding mental health, how they cope with these challenges, and which organizational support mechanisms help them to cope with the challenges they face. Methodology: We chose a qualitative research approach with semi-structured interviews and participant observations. Ten project workers from different industries were interviewed. They worked in PBOs in Germany and Sweden. In addition, we talked to four mental health experts and participated in a workshop and three webinars on mental health at work. Findings: High and complex workload, difficulties in achieving work-life balance, and uncertainty regarding new projects were highlighted as main stressors. The project workers use individual coping strategies to deal with these challenges and they find themselves to be responsible for their mental health. Still, social and structural support mechanisms werefound to be crucial, since they serve as necessary preconditions to effectively make use of individual coping strategies.

Sjuksköterskors erfarenheter kring hantering av egna känslor vid dödsfall : en litteraturbaserad studie / Nurses’ experiences of coping with their own emotions surrounding deaths : a literature-based study

Akkaya, Melina, Cao, Michelle January 2023 (has links)
There are around 90 000 deaths annually in Sweden, it is not unusual for nurses to encounter death in their work. Death can evoke many strong emotions; it is therefore of great importance that nurses’ can cope with their emotions. The aim of this study was to explore nurses' experiences in coping with their own emotions from patient deaths in inpatient care. The study was conducted as a literature-based study based on qualitative research. Ten articles from the databases Cinahl and PubMed, published 2013-2023 in English were included. The articles were analyzed using Friberg’s (2022) five step process. Two main themes were identified: coping strategies in case of death and aspects influencing the coping of emotions. The results showed that nurses coped with their emotions using different coping strategies which could be divided into three subthemes: coping with emotions through practical problem-solving, coping with emotions through distraction and coping with emotions by changing perspective. The results also showed that cultural and religious aspects affected the nurses coping, in both positive and negative ways. Some nurses found ways to cope with their emotions after they had gained experience within the field of deaths, while other nurses didn’t and expressed a feeling of not having enough knowledge about how to cope with their emotions. Therefore, nurses need education on how to cope with their feelings that occur in difficult situations such as deaths. / I Sverige dör omkring 90 000 personer årligen.

Time Until Subsequent Pregnancy After Intrauterine Fetal Demise and Early Infant Death Based on Grieving Strategies

Delhomme, Gertride 01 January 2023 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this research is to evaluate the coping strategies of families and childbearing women after intrauterine fetal demise and early infant death. The secondary purpose is to examine the effect of grieving strategies after intrauterine fetal demise compared to early infant death on time until subsequent pregnancy in women of childbearing age. A literature review exploring parental grief and coping strategies to cope with loss and its effect on the subsequent pregnancy was conducted from various online databases. All reviewed articles in the analysis indicated that coping strategies consist of a diverse number of mechanisms during the bereavement process. Results show that positive mechanism such as talking about the experience of fetal and infant death was beneficial in the grieving journey and showed a positive correlation to a shorter time to subsequent pregnancy. Identification of strategies to improve mental health in women after fetal demise and early infant death are of value to pregnancy counseling following demise and improving time to conception outcomes after emotional trauma caused by perinatal loss. There is great value in understanding the connection between conception after the early death of an infant and intrauterine fetal demise in helping healthcare providers support family planning goals.

Universitetsstudenters upplevelser och copingsstrategier av studierelaterad stress

Rinasi, Qendresa, Granlund, Maja January 2024 (has links)

martinell, carolina, Parayon, Estelle January 2023 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is to understand how investigative journalists in Sweden experience hostility, as well how they cope with hostility in their professional role and in their private lives. The work of investigative journalism aims to scrutinize those in power, politicians and organizations, to ensure that abuse of power doesn't go unnoticed. The revealing reportage is in many cases unfavorable to the ones being exposed. This can put investigative journalists at a higher risk for being victims of acts of hostility.  The theoretical framework draws upon Hanitsch and Vos (2017) conceptual framework of journalistic roles, as well as a theory by Ivask et al (2023) about journalistic approaches. These combined help to create a greater understanding of how the journalists are affected in different aspects. Methodologically, the research relies on semi-structured interviews with ten investigative journalists in Sweden, to reach a deeper understanding of their experiences and how they reflect on hostility. These interviews were conducted over a period spanning from October to December 2023. The findings of the study unveil the diverse ways in which hostility affects investigative journalists. While all journalists express a desire to remain unaffected by hostility, some individuals encounter psychological challenges that influence their editorial choices. In contrast, others demonstrate resilience by refusing to allow hostility to compromise the integrity of their work or instill fear in their professional pursuits. The provision of organizational support and the implementation of proactive measures to counteract hostility emerge as pivotal factors in mitigating the impact of such adversarial encounters.
