Relationships Between Job Satisfaction, Supervisor Support, and Profitability Among Quick Service Industry Employees

Vann, Joseph Carl 01 January 2017 (has links)
Low profit margins threaten the sustainability of quick service restaurants (QSRs). In the United States, low levels of employee job satisfaction and low employee perceptions of supervisor support decrease organizational profitability by as much as $151 million annually, depending on the size and type of organization. Guided by the 2-factor theory of motivation, the purpose of this correlational study was to examine the relationship between employee job satisfaction, employee perceptions of supervisor support, and organizational profitability. A convenience sample of employees from 86 QSR franchise locations in Houston, Texas completed the Job Satisfaction and Perceived Supervisor Support surveys. Multiple linear regression analysis and Bonferroni corrected significance calculation predicted organizational profitability (F(2, 71) = 9.20, p < .001, R2 = .206) and employee job satisfaction (ï?¢ = .577, p = .025). The effect size indicated that the regression model accounted for approximately 21% of the variance in organizational profitability. Employee perceptions of supervisor support (ï?¢ = -.140, p = .580) did not relate to any significant variation in organizational profitability. The findings may be of value to QSR business professionals developing initiatives to improve organizational profitability. Improving employees' perceptions of supervisor support to generate high levels of employee job satisfaction could affect behavioral social change to enhance the health and wellbeing of employees and the wealth and sustainability of QSR franchise locations.

Hubner, Michael 11 1900 (has links)
Summary in German and English / This paper examines responsibility in the counselling field as practised in therapeutic counselling at the TS Institute in Neuendettelsau with the help of the applied individual psychology of Alfred Adler. Against the background of the historical development of poimenics and the correlational approach of Paul Tillich, it will prove that counselling can benefit from psychology. The main elements of the paper then deal with the question of whether the personal responsibility of the individual is suitable as the basis of individual psychology in Christian counselling. The definition of and thinking behind responsibility have changed: Behind the apparently ethical and noble pretence of bearing self-responsibility, ‘personal responsibility’, which requires interaction between oneself and the other, pales. Due to advancing individualism, people seem to feel overloaded and seek relief in determinative or ‘causalmechanistic’ thinking. In contrast, Adler largely distanced himself from determinism in his ‘applied psychology’. The basis of his thinking is evidenced in a conclusion on his philosophical research into Husserl and Vaihinger, as well as those he draws from the teaching of psychoanalysis and evolution. The theological debates surrounding the change in self-responsibility focus on the definitions of the ethics of conviction and responsibility introduced into the discussion by Max Weber. Whilst Adler did not intend to consciously integrate Christian thinking into his therapy, this study shows that, against the background of Genesis 2 and the theologians Bonhoeffer, Pannenberg and Brunner, it demonstrates a clear analogy with biblical- Christian thinking. Personal responsibility can therefore be regarded as suitable for the poimenics in applied individual psychology. This is demonstrated by examples of responsibility counselling in today’s penal system. / Practical Theology / D. Th. (Practical Theology)

Factors affecting compliance with anti-hypertensive drug treatment and required lifestyle modifications among hypertensive patients on Praslin island

Edo, Thomas Akpan 06 1900 (has links)
Various studies on compliance with anti-hypertensive medications and appropriate lifestyle modifications have been conducted worldwide but studies specific to the Island of Praslin are lacking. The purpose of this quantitative, descriptive-correlational study was to describe factors that affected compliance with hypertension medications and lifestyle modification strategies in a sample of 102 hypertensive persons. The comprehensive version of the Health Belief Model served as the conceptual framework directing the study. The researcher investigated whether there were any significant relationships between compliance and the Health Belief Model variables. Data was collected by means of structured interviews and document analysis, involving an interview schedule and a checklist. All respondents were diagnosed hypertension patients registered at either of the two public health centres on the Island of Praslin. Individual perception of the benefits and risks of hypertension treatment as well as cues to action were found to be significant determinants of compliance behaviour. The study highlighted the need for improved health education and follow-up measures to strengthen patients’ perceptions about the benefits of treatment and compliance. / Public Health / M.A. (Public Health)

Description des facteurs prédictifs de résultats d’une intervention de prévention et de gestion des maladies chroniques en contexte de soins première ligne / Describing the predictive factors of effects of an interdisciplinary intervention for people with chronic conditions in primary healthcare

Sasseville, Maxime January 2014 (has links)
// Abstract : Context : Research on the factors associated with the successes of chronic disease prevention and management (CDPM) interventions is scarce. Objectives : To identify the factors associated with the successes of an interprofessional CDPM intervention among adult patients in primary healthcare (PHC) settings. Design : Secondary analysis of data from the PR1MaC project; a pragmatic randomized controlled trial looking at the effects of an intervention involving the integration of CDPM services in PHC. Settings : Eight PHC practices in the Saguenay - Lac - Saint - Jean region of Quebec, Canada. Participants : A sample of 160 patients (84 males) referred by PHC providers constituted the sample (mean age 52.66 ± 11.5 years); 98.5% presented two or more chronic conditions analysis focused on the intervention arm sample only. Main and secondary outcome measures : Dichotomic substantive improvement in the eight domains of the Health Education Impact questionnaire (hei Q) measured at baseline and three months later. Results : Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that being younger, being single and having a lower family income led to a better improvement in the emotional wellbeing domain; having healthy eating habits and less objectives during the intervention led to improvement in the constructive attitudes and approaches domain; being younger, a longer intervention and a consensus of professionals led to improvement in the health services navigation domain; a longer intervention led to improvement in the positive and active engagement in life domain and having more professionals involved led to improvement in the Skills and techniques acquisition domain. No predictive factors were identified for the Health - directed behaviour, Social interaction and support and S elf - monitoring and insight domains. Only significant results are presented here (p - value ≥ 0.05). The small sample and the lost of significance after statistical adjustments suggest that observations should be validated by other studies. Conclusion: In an attempt to make causal inferences in regards to improvement, this research contributes to the understanding of the complex mechanisms of efficiency and provides information about the optimisation of CDPM program delivery.

The Correlation between Information Literacy and Critical Thinking of College Students: An Exploratory Study

McMullin, Shelly Lynne 05 1900 (has links)
This exploratory, mixed-methods study investigated the relationship between information literacy and critical thinking. The research question guiding the first portion of the study was: How do information literacy and critical thinking relate in undergraduate students conducting academic research? Using two standardized assessments, the study assessed the information literacy and critical thinking skills of a small population of college students from a private, university in Texas. The correlational analysis of the scores from the two assessments showed a statistically significant, positive, moderate correlation. The study also explored the likelihood of gender differences in cognitive processing using information literacy and critical think skills assessments. The independent samples t-tests for both assessments demonstrated no statistically significant differences between female and male participants. Finally, a qualitative component comprised of a questionnaire provided context to the assessment scores through items requesting information on participant source selection priorities via the three middle stages of Kuhlthau's information search process model as well as their criteria for selecting sources of information. Though only a small number of the participants completed the questionnaire, the responses highlighted areas of interest for future research.

Calibration of the Measurement System for Methane Pyrolysis in Rocket Nozzle Cooling Channels

Ly, Jennifer January 2023 (has links)
Methane-based rocket propellant is gaining traction as a green technology with advantages in sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and performance. However, under high temperatures found in rocket nozzle cooling channels, methane can undergo thermal decomposition known as methane pyrolysis, resulting in the generation of hydrogen and solid carbon. This poses challenges to rocket engine performance and can eventually cause engine failure. Understanding and predicting the composition of evolved gases in rocket engine processes is therefore crucial. This thesis focuses on quantifying the production of hydrogen in the exhaust stream. To achieve this objective, a correlational measurement method utilizing sensors was developed and experimentally investigated. This approach involved the detailed mapping of sensor responses to variations in gas composition, temperature, and pressure, which were compared and validated against theoretical data derived from REFPROP; a widely used software tool for calculating gas properties. The sensors employed in this study enabled direct measurements of the speed of sound (SOS) and thermal conductivity (TCD) of the gas. The SOS measurements exhibited strong agreement with theoretical predictions in response to changes in hydrogen content. In contrast, the TCD measurements showed lower sensitivity to hydrogen. It was observed that temperature exhibited a substantial influence on both SOS and TCD compared to pressure. However, the implementation of experimental and theoretical correction coefficients effectively compensated for these effects. The resulting calibration curves demonstrated an absolute deviation of 0.2-0.3%vol in hydrogen concentration, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the developed method of quantifying hydrogen in gas mixtures. Lastly, the occurrence of methane pyrolysis was tested and confirmed.
