Vad visar forskning om effekterna av platsbaserat polisiärt arbete vid geografiskt små områden?Persson, Carolina, Doyle, Maria January 2012 (has links)
This research review is about the effectiveness of hot spot policing. Does hot spot policing have an effect on crime? Does only one type of crime decline? Does crime just move from one place to another? Through suitable keywords and well known databases, studies with good research designs were chosen. The result was 14 in all, 9 randomized controlled trials, 4 quasi-experiments and 1 meta-analysis. The review shows a divided picture when it comes to significance in crimeprevention. In summary: 6 studies are significantly small and 4 non-significant when it comes to the total of crime. To work problem-oriented and to work with other authorities is most effective. Only place-based work does not affect all crime, other authorities/methods are needed.

It is tried to reach a comprehensive explanation about the implementation of community policing model. To reach the goal of the study interviews held with citizens and police officers. The results of interviews provide an opportunity to comprehend the facts and to determine the view of public on the possible related changes in practice.
At the end of the study, it can be said that community policing has democratic policing and problem solving functions but the core element of this model, participation, is a complex and dynamic process that is highly unpredictable and difficult to control.
In addition, citizen-focused policing requires a cultural and operational reform. That is why, it is not an easy transformation process. It is concluded that community policing is an applicable model for Turkish Police with its challenges.

An Interrupted Time Series Analysis of the State College Nuisance Property Ordinance and an Assessment of Rental Property Managers as Place Manager/Intimate Handler of OffenderKoehle, Gregory M. 16 August 2011 (has links)
This research involves a legal impact study of the State College Nuisance Property Ordinance and an assessment of State College Rental Property Managers in the role of place manager/intimate handler of offender. The impact of the Ordinance was assessed by employing an interrupted time series design which examined five years of pre-ordinance violations against five years of post-ordinance violations. The assessment of State College Rental Property Managers in the role of place manager/intimate handlers of offenders was assessed through a mail survey. The survey contained items that measured the level to which State College Rental Property Managers have assumed this role. This level was then regressed against the offenses covered under the Ordinance in order to determine if this role has an impact on reducing and/or deterring offenses in rental units. The data suggest that the Ordinance was successful in reducing violations in nuisance rental units. In addition, the analyses of the survey revealed that a higher level of place manager/intimate handler of offender was positively correlated with criminal and ordinance violations. / Dr. Randy L. Den skeva bilden : En studie i hur brottsrapporteringen i Efterlyst ser ut jämfört med brottsstatistiken, samt hur programmets tittare upplever att de påverkas / The disorted image : A study that compares the image Efterlyst gives of crime to statistics and how the tv-show can affect viewers.Holkenberg, Paulina, Rubin, Hanna, Petrini-Barck, Linn January 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis was to determine the tv-show Efterlyst’s (Wanted)effects on viewers when it comes to how crime, criminals and victims are portrayed in the show. In order to achieve the purpose of our the study, both quantitative and qualitative approaches were used We compared the image Efterlyst gives of crime, criminals and victims to statistical information from The Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention and The Central Bureau of Statistiscs. By using focus-groups we also studied how Efterlyst portrays, in the season of 2009, and how it may have affected its viewers. Our conclusion was that there are important differences between how Efterlyst portrays crime and the image of crime the statistics gives. Our study also supports the idea that viewers can be affected by how Efterlyst reports about crime; they can get disorted understandings about crime and be influenced in such way that they feel unjustified fear from watching Efterlyst – a substantial reduction in their quality of life

Policing fantasy cityHuey, Laura 11 1900 (has links)
This study explores the creation and proliferation of urban entertainment
destinations i n two Vancouver neighbourhoods - Gastown and Granville Mall - and the
effect that these spaces are having on the delivery of urban policing services. This
analysis provides a basis for a critique of both the 'broken windows' thesis and consumer
culture.
Urban entertainment destinations (UEDS) are sites that utilize forms of
entertainment as a means of retailing goods and services. Unlike traditional notions of the
city, site operators, and increasingly consumers, view these areas solely as spaces of
consumption linked to pleasure. However, the marketing of many of these sites as
pleasure spots is problematic for site operators because of the pre-existence of various
forms of 'urban blight' that are commonly associated with the inner city.
In order to reduce, or eliminate, a number of 'quality of life' issues that plague
retailers and consumers, such as panhandling, graffiti, squeegees, street youth, and so on,
business improvement associations (BIAs), which function roughly as site operators,
demand an increased police presence. To augment existing public policing programs in
their areas, many BIAs are also contracting private security services to engage in 'broken
windows'-style policing in public spaces. Many of these services work cooperatively
with public programs.
The thesis advances three propositions. First, urban entertainment destinations
generate demands for both increased and diversified forms of policing. Second, these
demands for policing can be traced to modern consumption patterns and the mass media.
Third, these demands can translate into 'policing' practices that are not centered around
crime prevention or other strategies commonly associated with policing per se, but rather
have more to do with creating and maintaining images of safety and 'risklessness' in sites
frequented by consumers.
