Cultural Intelligence¡GIts Influence on Knowledge Sharing and Innovative Behavior

Nowadays, human resource management transforms the business into globalization, and globalization trend changes the management of human resource as well. Therefore, given the importance for enterprises to figure out the factors to cultivate competitive advantages among foreign professionals in a cross-cultural working environment and improve the innovation process and work performance in advance, this research will discuss how cultural intelligence and knowledge sharing impact individuals¡¦ innovative behavior. Consequently, from an empirical investigation with 131 foreign professionals supported the notion that with higher cultural intelligence perceived higher innovative behavior. Correspondingly, higher metacognitive CQ, motivational CQ and motivational CQ lead to higher knowledge sharing. In addition, knowledge sharing has positive impact on innovative behavior. Furthermore, the relationships between cognitive CQ and innovative behavior were mediated through knowledge sharing.

Effect of socio-cultural environment to the life stile of adolescents The purpose of this survey is to reveal the relation between the socio-cultural environment of adolescents and their life stile. In the process of writing this paper the following targets were announced: 1. To analyse and summarize scientific literature which analyses the issues of life stile. 2. In the form of questionnaire survey to study the peculiarities of life stile of the adolescents, who live in town and in the country and who belong to different social classes. The survey was carried out in the town of Šiauliai and its region in 2004. 166 respondents of grades 9-10 from secondary and basic schools of Šiauliai and its region took part in the survey. The data of the survey revealed that the main factors affecting the life stile of adolescents are the place of residence and social stratification of the family. The influence of the above-mentioned factors was revealed in accordance to four components: values, relations with parents, relations with adolescents of the same age and free time. Moreover, the survey showed the contrast among the town and countryside adolescents from economically strong and weak families. The adolescents who live in town value friends (x = 3,62) and health (x = 4,13) more, whereas the adolescents who live in the country value their parents (x = 3,49). Five case studies of Emirati working women in Dubai - their personal experiences and insights

This ethnographic case study explored the insights and experiences of a small selection of working graduates from Dubai Women's College. Based on a literature review and a preliminary study, the following themes were identified and employed as stimuli for discussion: the balance between work and family responsibilities, gender issues in the workplace, issues of power relationships for women, coping with restrictions in an Arabic Islamic environment, reasons for work, and sources of influence and satisfaction. The research utilized feminist post-structural theory to collect the data and then analyze and interpret the comments made by the women. Self-reflexivity and transparency of the positionality of the researcher were critical in this research that relied on an unstructured personal interview approach. The research resulted in a rich description of the thoughts and concerns of five diverse women. Through discourse analysis, the dominant socio-cultural discourses in the areas of gender, marriage, kinship, ethnicity, meritocracy, materialism and religion that women interact with in this cultural environment were identified. The extent to which the women take up, disrupt and challenge these discourses was also explored with a view to suggest ways to 'better' women's lives. Implications of this study include an agenda for increased emancipation of women by greater freedom of choice through self awareness and the development of potential strategies to support empowerment.

Skriftspråksutveckling i förskoleklassen

The aim of this essay was to investigate how teachers in the preschool class work with literacy. How do they justify the methods used to develop children's literacy abilities? I also wanted to know to what extent teachers enable multimodal approaches within written language practices. My study considers the impact teachers' professional identity has on working methods in the preschool class. I hope this essay will help teachers reflect on their learning approach.I gathered information by interviewing three preschool teachers and one compulsory school teacher for the early years working in three different preschool classes in three different schools. The four interviews were transcribed and put together in an overview. I applied a socio-cultural perspective to the material and approached the problem by looking into differences within preschool-/school traditions from the 1800's to present day education. All teachers practised the phonics based method the Bornholm model to some extent. Rhymes were often used as well as computer writing. The motivation to rhyming was that the children seemed to enjoy it, while typing on the computer was justified by all children's equal right to learn despite fine motor skills development.The analyses showed that preschool teachers are more likely to enable play and include joyful learning situations in their teaching. Compulsory school teachers come from another tradition, and often see the year in the preschool class as a preparation for school. All interviewed teachers have a theoretical knowledge about multimodal discourses, but struggle to apply these theories in practice.

Ljus har möjligheten att förstärka, levandegöra och skapa karaktär på en plats. I ett flertal studier har det visats att ljus påverkar hur människan upplever känslor och atmosfär i både interiöra och exteriöra sammanhang. Utöver denna möjlighet som ljuset erbjuder riskerar byggnader och platser att bli överbelysta och förvrängda i sitt uttryck med dåligt planerad ljussättning. I miljöer med historiskt värde blir belysningsfrågan mer komplex på grund av avvägningen mellan att vårda de historiska värdena och att tillgodose dagens funktionella krav. Nya byggnadsverk planeras och byggs tätt anslutande till miljöer med kulturhistoriska värden och problematiken förstärks av att det i nuläget inte finns några lagar, standarder eller riktlinjer för belysning i sådana miljöer. I studien som genomförts undersöktes ljusdesigners och antikvariers perspektiv på belysning i moderna stadsområden och kulturmiljöer. Fallstudien utfördes genom observationer av Tändsticksområdet i Jönköping kombinerat med intervjuer. Intervjupersoner med ämneskunskap eller yrkeskategorier som ansetts vara relevanta till ämnet rekryterades. Observationer utfördes på plats av författarna för att skapa förståelse över områdets uppbyggnad och dess belysning. Rapporten presenterar resultaten av observationerna i Tändsticksområdet och intervjuerna. Observationerna utfördes enligt Percifal, Serial Vision samt Lynch stadsbildsanalys. Den generella upplevelsen av området ändrades dag- och kvällstid. Belysningsprinciperna och ljussättningen skiljde sig åt mellan områdena och en tydlig, fysisk gräns kunde identifieras i ljuset. Resultatet av intervjuerna gav en förståelse kring belysning från ett antikvariskt perspektiv. Ljussättning diskuteras inte aktivt av antikvarier men en medvetenhet kring ljusets effekter finns om frågan lyfts av externa parter. Historiserande formspråk på armaturer som harmonierar med den tänkta miljön kan rekommen-deras framför en exakt korrekt historisk armatur. Det framkom i intervjuerna att samverkan mellan ljusdesigners och antikvarier är önskvärt men inget som är frekvent återkommande i respektives dagliga arbete. Studien har begränsats av tidsramen och resultatens generaliserbarhet och tillämplighet diskuteras i rapporten. Semistrukturerade intervjuer gav möjlighet till fördjupning i vissa ämnen medan observationerna utfördes med hjälp av beprövade metoder. Författarna anser att fler studier behöver utföras i områden med kulturhistoriska värden kopplat till belysning för att bättre förstå hur ljus påverkar kulturmiljöer. / Light has the ability to enhance and create character in a place. In several studies, it has been shown that light affects how people experience emotions and atmosphere in both interior and exterior contexts. In addition to this opportunity that light offers, buildings and places run the risk of being overexposed and distorted in their expression with poorly planned lighting. In environments with historical value, lighting becomes more complex due to the tradeoff between preserving the historical values and meeting today's functional requirements. New buildings are planned and built closely connected to environments with cultural and historical values and the problem is reinforced by the fact that there are currently no laws, standards, or guidelines for lighting in such environments. In the present study, lighting designers' and antiquarian's perspectives on lighting in modern urban areas and cultural environments were investigated. The case study was carried out through observations of Tändsticksområdet in Jönköping combined with interviews. Interviewees with subject knowledge or professional categories considered to be relevant to the study were recruited. Observations were carried out on site by the authors to create an understanding of the area's structure and its lighting. The report presents the results of the observations in Tändsticksområdet and the interviews. The observations were carried out according to Percifal, Serial Vision and Lynch cityscape analysis. The general experience of the area changed during the day and evening. The lighting principles and lighting differed between the areas and a clear, physical boundary could be identified in the light. The results of the interviews provided an understanding of lighting from an antiquarian perspective. Lighting is not actively discussed by antiquarians, but there is an awareness of the effects of light if the issue is raised by external parties. Historical design language for luminaires that harmonize with the intended environment can be recommended over a precisely correct historic luminaire. It appeared in the interviews that collaboration between lighting designers and antiquarians is desirable, but not something that is frequently recurring in the respective daily work. The study has been limited by the time frame and the generalizability and applicability of the results are discussed in the report. Semistructured interviews provided the opportunity for indepth study of certain topics, while the observations were carried out using proven methods. The authors believe that more studies need to be carried out in areas with cultural historical values linked to lighting to better understand how light affects cultural environments.

Reproducing gender inequalities? A critique of `realist' assumptions related to organizational attraction and adjustment

No / Occupational discrimination and segregation along gendered lines continue to be seen as problematic throughout the UK and the USA. Women continue to be attracted to occupations that are considered to be women's work, such as clerical, secretarial and personal service work, and inequalities persist even when women enter traditional male domains such as management Work psychology's chief, though indirect, contribution to this field has been through personnel selection research, where methods aimed at helping organizations to make more fair and unbiased selection decisions have been carefully examined. Our aim in this paper is to argue that, on their own, such methods can make very little difference to the position of women (and other minorities) in work organizations. The processes that are fundamental to organizational attraction and adjustment cannot, we contend, be understood adequately through reductionist approaches that treat organizational and individual characteristics as context independent realities. Drawing on critical management research and using the specific example of police work, we argue that work roles and work identities can be more fruitfully understood as social constructions that, when deconstructed, illuminate more powerfully how processes that lead to the relative subordination of women (and other groups) are both reproduced and challenged.
