La théorie de la machine lacanienne : de la production du virtuel à la chaîne

Saint-Jevin, Alexandre 22 November 2014 (has links)
The analysis of Jacques Lacan’s machine theory will be one of the firstepistemology of cybernetic machine. It allows us to make links betweencontemporary psychoanalysis and cognitive sciences, and it enlightens theirhermeneutical exegesis particularities of the cybernetic machine’s conception at thesame time. In the light of cybernetics’ theories includind texts of Turing, Lacan readin cybernetic terms the Freudian concepts of psychic apparatus in order to includethe contributions of Saussurian and Levi-Straussian structuralism. Lacan presents apsychoanalytic reading of cybernetics based on philosophy, offering a Kanto-Bergsonian reading of the «theory of game», a Kierkegaardian feedback andAristotelian automatic. It allows him to reveal the epistemological importance of thepassage from a spatial conception of a mechanical located device to a timeconception of a logical machine without location, through the advent of Freudiantopography. Psychoanalysis changes from a theatrical metaphor into a unconsciousa s a factory. It enables Lacan to give a definition of virtual which is going toinfluence Deleuze’s thinking. The Lacanian Machine reveals the inhuman part of the humanity. Kyberzločin a global governance kyberprostoru / Cybercrime and global governance of cyberspace

Šorf, Alexandr January 2015 (has links)
The main theme of the work is global governance of cyberspace. The objective of the thesis is to assess the threat of cybercrime to global governance of cyberspace. The first chapter helps to create a theoretical framework for the thesis through definition of the main concepts. Second chapter analyzes cybercrime. The goal is to better understand cybercrime as a whole, its different types and its process. The content of the third chapter is an analysis of the history of cybercrime as well as the international law of cyberspace (as a key component of global governance). The fourth chapter goes over the current state of the international law governing cyberspace. After that in the fifth chapter the thesis looks into specific problems of global governance in general and also in the cybernetics. Previous findings are then combined in the last chapter. It contains recommendations for the development of cyberspace global governance. These recommendations are then applied into a few models of cyberspace governance.

Interactivity by design: interactive art systems through network programming

Bjornson, Steven A. 11 January 2017 (has links)
Interactive digital art installations are fundamentally enabled by hardware and software. Through a combination of these elements an interactive experience is con- structed. The first half of this thesis discusses the technical complexity associated with design and implementation of digital interactive installation. A system, dreamIO, is proposed for mediating this complexity through providing wireless building blocks for creating interactive installations. The technical details–both hardware and software– of this system are outlined. Measurements of the system are presented followed by analysis and discussion of the real world impact of this data. Finally, a discussion of future improvements is presented. The second half of this thesis examines an example interactive installation, Trans- code, which uses the proposed system as the building block for the piece. The piece is presented as evidence for the value of the proposed system and as a work of art in it’s own right. The use of the dreamIO system is detailed followed by a discussion of the interactivity and aesthetic form of the work. The purposes of these specific design choices are then presented. Finally, the work is analyzed through a combination of Relational Aesthetics and Cybernetics. / Graduate

Design and Development of a Comprehensive and Interactive Diabetic Parameter Monitoring System

Chowdhury, Nusrat Jahan, Blevins, Joseph, Ragsdale, Phoenix, Rezwana, Tahsin, Kawsar, Ferdaus Ahmed, Dr. 12 April 2019 (has links)
Regular physical activity, timely medication, controlled diet, and blood glucose monitoring is crucial for any diabetic patient. Laxity on following these treatment regimens can cause severe health complexity. Moreover, A physician’s surveillance on a patient, based on the patient’s real-time progress is difficult with the existing health care system. This research aims to provide a more accurate objective data in real-time to the physicians to help both patients and providers. The data being generated is mined later to investigate interesting questions regarding diabetic care. The resultant system is a mobile healthcare monitoring system for type – 2 diabetic patients that traces patients daily progress. Although many mobile apps provide self-monitoring tools for the patient, an interactive platform for monitoring all relevant parameters of diabetes where patients and physicians both are end users is unique. The Android app is designed with 3 major modules and two submodules: 1. Carb Intake Tracker (CIT), 2. Blood Glucose Tracker (BGT), 3. Physical Activity Tracker (PAT), 4. Medicine and 5. Blood Glucose (BG) reading reminder. Since Carb is an important factor for a diabetic patient’s meals, the CIT provides a platform to record daily meals from which the patient can see the total carb intake. Through BGT, patients can record their fasting or non-fasting blood glucose reading. The PAT collects a patient’s movement data via Bluetooth from a pair of wearable insole devices, and processing the data identifies and records the current activity. The PAT can detect if the patient is active in sedentary, as well as the type of exercise done by the patient. Using BG reminder and medicine reminder, the patient can set reminders which supports the apps self-monitoring aspect. All the data collected by CIT, BGT, and PAT are stored in Microsoft Azure cloud database, an authorized physician can access the database and see graphical statistics of a patient’s diet, physical activity, and glycemic index level. The app portrays statistics of carbs taken over a period, calories burned, and Glucose level trends through graphical representation. This has two advantages: 1. Patients can improve lifestyle observing records and following reminders, 2. Physicians can prescribe actions perceiving a patient’s trends over time. This research presents unique collaborative interaction between diabetic patients and physicians to create a real time patient portal based on android APIs and wearable devices.

Experiences of change in the context of couple therapy: different people, different views

Kagan, Lana-Lee 30 September 2002 (has links)
Couple therapy is a frequently sought domain by couples who experience problems in their relationships. Couple therapy has been researched intensively, but few studies incorporate a holistic account of the therapeutic process. This study aims to explore and integrate the therapist's and the couple's experiences of change in the context of couple therapy. The ecosystemic epistemology and the narrative metaphor forms the foundation from which the therapy and the research is approached. Qualitative research methods are employed from within a naturalistic paradigm which allows for personal and unique meanings to emerge. Rich descriptions of the therapist's and the participant's stories of change are provided. Multiple perspectives are offered in the stories which reveal the reciprocal motions between the therapist's and the couples' change processes. Recurring themes are extracted from the stories which punctuate the pivotal change processes that were experienced by the therapist and the couples during the therapy. / Psychology / M.A. (Clinical Psychology)

Gendered bodies and new technologies

Du Preez, Amanda Anida 30 November 2002 (has links)
Gendered bodies and new technologies has one founding premise, namely that embodiment constitutes a non-negotiable prerequisite for human life. Although this may seem like an obvious statement, it is a statement that needs to be affirmed in the virtual age wherein we live. New technologies in most of its forms tend to discredit the embodied aspects of human life and instead concentrate on the disembodied aspects thereof. Among new technologies the following are specifically noted: microelectronics, telecommunication networks, nano-technology, virtual reality, computer-mediated communications and other forms of computer technologies. In short, “new technologies” refer to all things digital. I explore the issue of embodiment from a gendered perspective, seeing that the female body is the embodiment most likely to be discarded, not only in metaphysical systems, but also in developments within new technologies. The main focus of my gendered analysis is on the visual image and more specifically as it manifests in cinema, advertisements, the Internet, interactive artwork and television. The critical perspective that foregrounds my approach is that of the fairly new field of cyberfeminism. The main concern of cyberfeminism being a critical engagement of women’s position in terms of new technologies. In this regard, cyberfeminism does not perpetuate an anti-technology stance, but rather embraces technology by emphasising the embodied nature of our existence. I have identified four body types to explore the interactions between bodies and new technologies. They are: the techno-transcendent body; the techno-enhanced body; the marked body and the cyborg body. The four body types differ in the way in which gendered embodiment is negotiated in its interaction with new technologies and these are highlighted and discussed in the four chapters dealing with these four body types. / English / D.Litt.et Phil.

Techno genetrix : shamanizing the new flesh : cyborgs, virtual interfaces and the vegetable matrix in SF

Carstens, Johannes Petrus 31 January 2005 (has links)
This dissertation examines the figures of the shaman and the cyborg, arguing that both act as intermediaries between the organic world of bodies and the artificial world of culture and machines. Using the sf of Robert Holdstock, David Zindell and Kathleen Ann Goonan as starting points, new forms of embodiment in the context of the cyborg and the shaman's shared narrative of radical boundary dissolution are critically and imaginatively examined. Throughout this thesis, the works of Deleuze and Guattari, Sadie Plant, Manuel De Landa, Erik Davis, Donna Haraway, Terence McKenna, and other speculative theorists who operate at the nexus of technological culture and the shamanic imagination serve as guidelines. / English Studies / M.A.
