Från glass ceiling till glass cliff i Sverige - en myt eller ett fenomen? : En kvantitativ studie om heterogeniteten i svenska bolagsstyrelser

Landberg, Gustav, Sayed, Ali January 2021 (has links)

Analysis of second-order recurrences using augmented phase portraits

Sacka, Katarina January 2023 (has links)
The augmented phase portrait, introduced by Sabrina Streipert and Gail Wolkowicz, is used to analyze second order rational discrete maps of the form \begin{align*} x_{n+1} = \frac{\alpha + \beta x_n + \gamma x_{n-1}}{A + Bx_n + C x_{n-1}}, \text{ for } n \in \mathbb{N}_0 =\{0,1,2,\dots, \} \end{align*} with parameters $\alpha, \, \beta, \, \gamma, \, A, \, B, \, C \geq 0$, and initial conditions, $x_{0}, \, x_{-1} > 0$. First we study the special case, \begin{align*} x_{n+1} = \frac{\alpha + \gamma x_{n-1}}{A + Bx_n}, \end{align*} with $\alpha, \, \gamma, \, B > 0$ and $A \geq 0$. Applying the change of variables, $y_n = x_{n-1}$, this equation can be rewritten as a planar system. We provide a new proof to show that oscillatory solutions have semicycles of length one, except possibly the first cycle, and that nonoscillatory solutions must converge monotonically to the equilibrium. This was originally done by Gibbons, Kulenovic, and Ladas. We also show that when the unique positive equilibrium is a saddle point, there exist nontrivial positive solutions that increase and decrease monotonically to the equilibrium, proving Conjecture 5.4.6 from the monograph by Kulenovic and Ladas. In particular, Theorem 1.2 from this monograph defines the tangent vector to the stable manifold at the equilibrium. We show that specific regions defined by the augmented phase portrait have solutions that increase and decrease monotonically to the equilibrium along the stable manifold. While Conjecture 5.4.6 was previously proven in a paper by Hoag and a paper by Sun and Xi, our proof provides a more intuitive and elementary solution. We then consider the case, \begin{equation*} x_{n+1} = \frac{\alpha + \beta (x_n + x_{n-1})}{A + B(x_n + x_{n-1})}, \end{equation*} with $\alpha, \beta, A, B > 0$. Again, using $y_n = x_{n-1}$, this system can be written as a planar system. Thus, applying the augmented phase plane, we prove global asymptotic stability of the positive equilibrium for some cases. In other cases, we show this using other theorems from the monograph by Kulenovic and Ladas as was previously done by Atawna, et al. / Thesis / Master of Science (MSc) / The augmented phase portrait, introduced by Sabrina Streipert and Gail Wolkowicz, is used to analyze second order rational discrete maps with nonnegative parameters and positive initial conditions. Investeringssparkontots inverkan på det privata sparandet : En studie om en ny sparform kan leda till förändrade transaktionskostnader / The Effect of Investment Savings Account on Savings : A study on whether a new form of savings account can lead to different transaction costs

Ewaldsson, David, Magnsjö, Tobias January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to determine whether adopting “investment savings account” has led to lower transaction costs and thus increased the level of savings in publicly traded stocks in Swedish households. To examine this relationship, a control group consisting of several different countries with no clear counterpart has been created. The data contains quarterly observations from the period 2000 - 2020. A difference-in-difference method has been applied to observe the results from Sweden in contrast to the weighted average of the control group. The development of the control group gives an estimate of Sweden´s savings without the treatment. The study concludes that Swedish households has no significant increase in stock savings relative to the control group, however it shows a descriptive tendency for an increase in savings that could be relevant for future research.

Numerical Simulation of Strong Turbulence over Water Waves

Kakollu, Satyanarayana 10 May 2003 (has links)
Recently a viscoelastic turbulence closure model, based on that of Townsend (1976), for wind-wave interactions by turbulent wind has been proposed by Sajjadi (2001). In that work, the governing equations of mean and turbulence were linearized and solved analytically using an asymptotic method. In this work the equations derived by Sajjadi were solved numerically for the cases of strong turbulence due to wind over surface of a monochromatic water wave. Vortex shedding has been observed at high wind velocities. Also, a layer of vortices separating the main flow of wind from the water surface was observed from the results for high velocities of wind. A finite difference scheme was devised which is second order accurate. The results were compared with another scheme based on the method of superposition coupled with orthonormalization by Scott andWatts (1977). The two schemes agree reasonably well for high velocities while they differ for low velocities. Two test cases were implemented to test the finite difference scheme. The tests show that the finite difference scheme predicts accurate solutions for inhomogeneous equations, while it fails to capture the accurate solution if a non trivial solution exists for homogeneous equations. This is attributed as the reason for the difference in the results.

Emotional Effect on Culture Difference in Economic Decision Making

Ba, Lan 13 May 2022 (has links) (PDF)
It is well known that cultural difference could affect people’s attitude, behavior and cognitive processes. Previous studies have shown a cross-cultural difference on self-construal between Western Caucasian (WC) and East Asian (EA), as well as their culturally distinguished motivational strategies, cognitive and emotion regulation methods. “Cushion hypothesis” (Hsee & Weber 1999) has suggested that WC were more risk aversive than EA during economic decision, because of dissimilar familial-social economic supporting system between two cultures. The current study digs in depth to these differences in emotional experience associated with decision making and discovers how cultures effect people’s counterfactual emotions—the “what if” emotion—during economic decision making. There are two types of counterfactuals thoughts we are looking at: regret and relief. Regret is triggered if an alternative action would have led to a better outcome, while relief is triggered if an alternative action would lead to equal or worse outcome. WC are expected to be more self-reliance, therefore would be more conservative about financial decision, and greater vigilant at economic choices prompting WC to process prior decision that led to least undesirable economic outcome; while EA are easier to get financial help form their families, would hold a relatively more relax attitude, compare to WC, about risk-taking behavior on economic decision, and be more chilled after receive preferable outcome than WC. Current study will use electropherogram (EEG) to record different event-relative potential (P2, P3 and LPP) and both FC (frontal central lobe) and CP (central parietal lobe) regions to examined how cultural difference affects counterfactual emotions during economic decision making, at both initial spontaneous arousal stage, P2 and conscious effortful emotional appraisal stage, LPP. Additionally, self emotional rating was included in the present study to consolidate validity of the task. In our results, all subjects rated happier on Relief than Regret, and Certain than Gamble conditions, only in Relief condition WC rated happier than EA, and only WC rated happier on Certain condition than Gamble condition. The emotional effect showed at P2 in FC suggested that positive result in regret condition could lead a more intensive immediate emotion arousal. Coincidently, the main effect of emotion at LPP, in the opposite direction compared to P2, at FC, might suggest an overall convoluted counterfactual emotional processing. At P3, choices by culture interaction presented at both region, further, only EA, but not WC, had a greater arousal in gamble condition than certain. This suggested a difference in cognitive processing of choices was different between two cultures. Interestingly, a three-way interaction was found at CP during P3, indicate a complexity of culture discrepancy of emotional process. Finally, a co-relation test between LPP signal and self-emotional rating was conducted, for the coincident of result of main effect of choices plus a marginal choices by culture interaction between behavioral rating and LPP. As the result, only in EA, at both choices conditions, the rating is positively related to LPP amplitude. Overall, both at P3 and LPP we found cultural specialized results correlated with choices condition, which indicated a obscure cultural effect on cognitive process. Moreover, the marginal three-way interaction at P3, CP, may suggest a cultural effects on both economic decision-making related cognitive process and emotional response.

Double-Difference Tomography Applied to Monitoring of Geologic Carbon Sequestration in the Aneth Oil Field, Utah

Slaker, Brent 11 January 2012 (has links)
Double-difference seismic tomography is performed on a carbon sequestration operation in the Aneth Oil Field in southeast Utah as part of a Department of Energy initiative on monitoring, verification, and accounting of sequestered CO2. A total of 1,211 seismic events were recorded from a borehole array of 22 geophones. Aneth Unit data were divided into four time periods for time-lapse analysis. A low velocity zone spanning the lateral extents of the observable region, likely representing a CO2 plume, is detected when considering voxels containing the highest ray path coverage. A series of synthetic tomography tests simulating different CO2 plume sizes and locations was performed to assist in characterizing velocity changes associated with Aneth Unit data. Inferences about the existence of a CO2 plume should be made by comparing actual data to synthetic data resulting from simulations performed under similar conditions. Considering synthetic simulation similarities and a derivative weight sum analysis, a CO2 plume can be imaged within the Desert Creek reservoir, but the resolution of the CO2 plume is too low for proper monitoring, verification, and accounting of injected CO2. Recommendations, for improving CO2 plume resolution through double difference seismic tomography, are made to increase the ray path distribution throughout the Aneth Unit by varying geophone locations. / Master of Science
