abstract: This document serves as a discussion of and reflection on the collaborative process of rehearsing and performing arrive, create: a Dance made by Many. My intention for the work was to deconstruct the traditional performance paradigm, focusing on constructing a generous performance atmosphere. During the rehearsal process the cast collectively worked to develop an ensemble dynamic for improvisational dance making. The construct of the performance encouraged the audience to engage with the work, both physically and imaginatively through sensory interaction with objects as well as verbal conversation. This document: recalls my background in dance improvisation; explores the relationship of philosophical and dance-making practices; discusses the process of making and performing the work; discusses research data collected from participants; and reflects on the project as a whole. Topics explored include: phenomenological perspectives, ethics of care, "moving identity", dancers' sense of authorship, transparency of dance work, collaboration, dance filmmaking, and dance improvisation in performance. / Dissertation/Thesis / M.F.A. Obteve-se, como resultado, um projeto de vídeo de longa- metragem inspirado numa narrativa curta e um diário de bordo referente ao processo criativo no qual se descreve, na medida do possível, como aconteceu o processo criativo do próprio pesquisador. Obteve-se, também, uma pesquisa secundária sobre a vida e a obra do autor da narrativa que serviu de alicerce à pesquisa, no intuito de estabelecer elos entre elementos amplamente conhecidos, embora sem associação visível. No corpus da tese apresentam-se três versões, temporalmente distanciadas, da diegese do vídeo: o roteiro literário, a decupagem e o storyboard. Já a parte gráfica da tese se divide em duas seções: o subcapítulo que inclui o storyboard e um apêndice integrado pelas cenografias, os figurinos, os objetos de cena e as locações. Este último foi realizado de forma a complementar e comprovar a hipótese após a escrita. Por sua vez, os pós-textos compreendem os apêndices e os anexos da tese. O conjunto do apêndice I visa a quantificar e documentar as mudanças acontecidas durante o processo criativo. Já o apêndice II salienta os objetivos da direção de arte, enquanto o apêndice III apresenta uma análise, no campo das artes, da figura e da obra de Novás Calvo, desconhecida no meio acadêmico brasileiro, razão pela qual o referi do apêndice resulta um desdobramento necessário da pesquisa. O anexo ¿ complementar ao tópico anterior ¿ apresenta uma transcrição da edição mexicana da obra que deu origem à pesquisa, no intuito de oferecer parâmetros adequados no que diz respeito aos elementos que integram o processo criativo. Contudo, tem-se ciência de que o produto final da pesquisa videográfica aqui apresentado representa apenas mais um estágio, intermediário, do processo quanticamente infindável de objetivação da criação artística / Abstract: This research is about the process involved in the transcodification of a literary piece into a video film, as well as its further development. Our aim was to produce a motion picture project based on a short story written by a Cuban artist, Lino Novás Calvo. We also intended to describe the researcher own creative process on a diary. Since Novás¿ work was the foundation stone of this project we have done a research of his life and work in order to establish links among elements related to them that are not usually associated. On the thesis corpus there are three different versions of the video narrative: the master scene script, the shooting script, and the storyboard. The graphic part of the thesis has been divided into two sections: the subchapter that contains the storyboard and an appendix part, describing the scenery, the wardrobe, the props, and the film locations. The appendix part above mentioned intended to prove the thesis hypothesis, after the thesis¿s corpus had been finished. In addition, the postscripts include the thesis¿s appendix and attachment. The appendix intended to quantify and document the changes that occurred along the creative process. On the other hand, the appendix number two underlines specially the art direction objectives, while number three presents an analyzes Novás Calvo¿s life and work, that are completely unknown to the Brazilian scholars, within the arts field framework. The attachment presents the Mexican edition of the short story that originated this research with the intention to offer adequate comparative parameters in regards to the elements that integrate the creative process. Este ¿quem¿ pode não ter uma identidade concreta, mas nos mobiliza a criação. Frente a este estímulo intangível, de um atuante elíptico de si mesmo, o artista se encontra "Face a ecaF", ou seja, face ao estranho dentro de si. Aberto a esta atraente estranheza, o corpo dá vazão à experiência sensível, e é a partir deste rastro que nos lançamos à criação de uma obra artística. O caminho investigativo trilhado deixou a mostra um processo metodológico vulnerável à inscrita do instante, o que torna o criador um aventureiro que desbrava as brumas de um espaço-tempo por vir ¿ a dança ¿ no curso intempestivo de estados alterados da consciência / Abstract: The objective is to understand the nature of the creative process observing the body experience that embodied in the tension between opposite forces in the dance movement. This study concentrated in the dance language following the tracks of the energy performance that emanates from the body. "Who dances in me when I dance? This "who" may not have a concrete identity but it mobilizes us to the creation. In front of this intangible stimulus, of a performer occult of himself the artist is "Face a ecaF", that's, in front of a stranger inside of himself. This ¿attractive stranger¿ mobilized us to the creation of an artistic work. The investigation indicated a methodology process vulnerable to inscription of instant so the creator becomes an adventurer who tames the mist of a spacetime for coming - the dance - in the untimely course of states changed of the conscience / Mestrado / Mestre em Artes

A tese tem quatro eixos principais: entender os princípios dos Vianna e seus desdobramentos na cena contemporânea; traçar um caminho de construção de um corpo cênico que dança com uma abordagem somática; apresentar uma metodologia de ensino de dança e educação somática para crianças; e analisar a criação de dança em uma montagem coreográfica de minha autoria. A presente pesquisa reflete sobre as contribuições da dança e da educação somática para a cena contemporânea, contextualizando as questões do corpo cênico a partir do referencial somático. / Abstract: The present work has as objective to deepen into the research of Klauss Vianna Technique as a corporal practice for constructing a scenic body by means of analyzing a personal process stemming from my experience as dancer, instructor and researcher of the movement. This thesis has four main axels: understanding Vianna's principles and their unfolding on a contemporary scene; tracing the construction path of a scenic body that dances with a somatic approach; presenting a methodology of dance and somatic education teaching for children; and analyzing the creation of a dance in a choreographic staging of my own creation.
