Implementation av iterativ rastreringsmetod för färgbilder / Implementation of an iterative halftoning technique for colour images

Eriksson, Robert, Fridh, Daniel January 2002 (has links)
This report describes the procedure in which we accomplished our task, which was to implement a present algorithm. This was made using C++. The algorithm is developed by Sasan Gooran, who is our examiner in this project. The algorithm uses an iterative method to produce the halftoned images. The reason for this project is to speed up the existing program which is made in Matlab. Our main action taken to speed up the program was to use C++ instead of Matlab. It is safe to say that we managed to fulfill our commitments with respect to speed, but we are not completely satisfied with the results regarding the quality. Although the result does not differ a great deal compared to the Matlab version, there are still improvements to make before considering using it commercially. Our program is an extension of an existing C++ program, written by Per Fredriksson. We used his program as base to our program. The addition we have made to his code is the possibility to halftone colour images.

Benchmarking a DSP processor / Benchmarking av en DSP processor

Lennartsson, Per, Nordlander, Lars January 2002 (has links)
This Master thesis describes the benchmarking of a DSP processor. Benchmarking means measuring the performance in some way. In this report, we have focused on the number of instruction cycles needed to execute certain algorithms. The algorithms we have used in the benchmark are all very common in signal processing today. The results we have reached in this thesis have been compared to benchmarks for other processors, performed by Berkeley Design Technology, Inc. The algorithms were programmed in assembly code and then executed on the instruction set simulator. After that, we proposed changes to the instruction set, with the aim to reduce the execution time for the algorithms. The results from the benchmark show that our processor is at the same level as the ones tested by BDTI. Probably would a more experienced programmer be able to reduce the cycle count even more, especially for some of the more complex benchmarks.

Ternära koder för variabelt felskydd / Ternary Codes for Unequal Error Protection

Karlsson, Björn January 2002 (has links)
Ternary codes for unequal error protection is a part of a communication system where different parts of the information to be transmitted can receive different amount of error protection. There are a lot of applications where the channel conditions fluctuate so that reliable or acceptable communication can not be guaranteed. Regardless whether the fluctuations of the channel are intentional or not the idea is to let the coderate decrease so that the error correcting capability can increase for the part of the information to be more protected. By using the support, the nonzero positions of the ternary code, a new binary code can be extracted with properties different from the ternary code in the sense of cardinality and minimum Hamming distance. When the channel conditions are good the receiver decodes the message using ternary decisions and receives all information included in the codeword. When the channel conditions drops the receiver decodes the message using binary decisions to assimilate the information in the support. What the properties of the ternary code should be like to give a good ternary error correcting capability and best possible error correcting capability for the support is one of the questions this thesis will look at. A number of ternary codes used in this thesis are constructed from Mattias Svanströms dissertation “Ternary Codes with Weight Constraints”, [4]. The properties of the support have been studied and modified in that sense it has given a new binary code with better error correctingcapability and an acceptable coderate. The unequal error protection lies in the modulation scheme. By using knowledge of the weight distribution and the error correcting capability of the ternary code the signal points in the modulation scheme can be optimized in the sense of error probability for ternary or binary decoding. When optimal error probability for the complete system is required optimal signal points for both modulations schemes needs to be considered and the final signal points placed thereafter.

Litorapid Media AB : En företagspresentation bestående av en hemsida och en cd-produktion / Litorapid Media AB : A Companypresentation consisting of a home page and a cd-production

Falck, Sara, Johansson, Karin January 2002 (has links)
Litorapid Media AB is a printer and prepresscompany, located on Hisingen, Gothenburg. Litorapid is a relatively large company, and is therefore in great need of convenient contacts with becoming and present customers. Seeing that they work with the most rescent technique in the branch of printing, it is important that they market themselves in a modern way. The purpose with this project became, for that reason, to create a more contemporary home page for the company to catch new customers, as well as aninteractive presentation of the company to create a more personal contact with customers they alreay have. The home page was created in the programme Macromedia Dreamweaver 4, and its design is based on previouly distributed brochures. The interface is very much adapted to please the user. The interactive presentation of the company is created in Macromedia Director 7 and is divided into three different divisions. One part where you can get practical information concerning how to hand in information to Litorapid, one which serves the purpose of giving the same information as the home page, and the last and largest part is a tour of the company in eight steps, where one can follow a printed matter being produced from start to finish. The material used is gathered at Litorapid’s office with a digital camera and a videorecorder. The final result is a homepage and a presentation of the company, showing the activity of Litorapid in a appealing and personal way. Furthermore, it is easy for customers to find the information they need. The new hompage is modern, and the introduction helps to catch the eye of an Internet user. The interactive presentation of the company gives us more details of Litorapid’s activity and is entertaining as well as informative. With these two marketing products Litorapid is shown as a contemporary printer.

Detection of interesting areas in images by using convexity and rotational symmetries / Detection of interesting areas in images by using convexity and rotational symmetries

Karlsson, Linda January 2002 (has links)
There are several methods avaliable to find areas of interest, but most fail at detecting such areas in cluttered scenes. In this paper two methods will be presented and tested in a qualitative perspective. The first is the darg operator, which is used to detect three dimensional convex or concave objects by calculating the derivative of the argument of the gradient in one direction of four rotated versions. The four versions are thereafter added together in their original orientation. A multi scale version is recommended to avoid the problem that the standard deviation of the Gaussians, combined with the derivatives, controls the scale of the object, which is detected. Another feature detected in this paper is rotational symmetries with the help of approximative polynomial expansion. This approach is used in order to minimalize the number and sizes of the filters used for a correlation of a representation of the orientation and filters matching the rotational symmetries of order 0, 1 and 2. With this method a particular type of rotational symmetry can be extracted by using both the order and the orientation of the result. To improve the method’s selectivity a normalized inhibition is applied on the result, which causes a much weaker result in the two other resulting pixel values when one is high. Both methods are not enough by themselves to give a definite answer to if the image consists of an area of interest or not, since several other things have these types of features. They can on the other hand give an indication where in the image the feature is found.

Grönroos, Markus, Björk, Whashin Kang January 2002 (has links)
This report describes the process of the examination work that was made after an offer from BrandEx Brandtätningar AB. Design of Single Scalar DSP based H.264/AVC Decoder

Tiejun Hu, Di Wu January 2005 (has links)
H.264/AVC is a new video compression standard designed for future broadband network. Compared with former video coding standards such as MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 part 2, it saves up to 40% in bit rate and provides important characteristics such as error resilience, stream switching etc. However, the improvement in performance also introduces increase in computational complexity, which requires more powerful hardware. At the same time, there are several image and video coding standards currently used such as JPEG and MPEG-4. Although ASIC design meets the performance requirement, it lacks flexibility for heterogeneous standards. Hence reconfigurable DSP processor is more suitable for media processing since it provides both real-time performance and flexibility. Currently there are several single scalar DSP processors in the market. Compare to media processor, which is generally SIMD or VLIW, single scalar DSP is cheaper and has smaller area while its performance for video processing is limited. In this paper, a method to promote the performance of single scalar DSP by attaching hardware accelerators is proposed. And the bottleneck for performance promotion is investigated and the upper limit of acceleration of a certain single scalar DSP for H.264/AVC decoding is presented. Behavioral model of H.264/AVC decoder is realized in pure software during the first step. Although real-time performance cannot be achieved with pure software implementation, computational complexity of different parts is investigated and the critical path in decoding was exposed by analyzing the first design of this software solution. Then both functional acceleration and addressing acceleration were investigated and designed to achieve the performance for real-time decoding using available clock frequency within 200MHz.

From vision to prototype : Virtual road racing / Från idé till prototyp : Virtuell cykling

Östlund, Eric Chung Anders January 2005 (has links)
Riding a stationary exercise bike regularly can lead to many health benefits such as stronger muscles, higher metabolism and reduced body fat percentage to mention a few. The biggest drawback is that training on a stationary exercise bike can be immensely boring with no stimulation or amusement factor. This thesis presents the development of a prototype, a road racing simulator that makes training on an exercise bike more stimulating. The prototype consists of an exercise bike and a computer game. It also features a network option, making it possible to race other users, multi player style. The purpose is to make home training on the exercise bike more amusing, enjoyable and maybe even challenging. The focus in this report lies mainly on the graphics and network parts but all steps in producing the prototype are described so the reader can get a complete picture of the project.

Identifikation av brister i gränssnitt och struktur i RIB : att användas i akuta lägen

Hellgren, Annica January 2005 (has links)
RIB is a tool that can be used for activities such as risk management, emergency prevention, education, supervision, planning and when carrying out a rescue operation. The objective is that novice users should be able to use RIB without the need of extensive training in how the program works. The purpose of this master thesis has been to identify deficiencies in the user interface and structure of RIB without any interference from the Swedish Rescue Services Agency concerning its values and preconceived notions.

Home Automation Using Elvin

Malm, Anders, Mjörning, Fredrik January 2005 (has links)
Home automation systems of today tend to be external solutions to an existing product that enable rather complex and expensive communications equipment to be attached to existing products. This is because it would not be economically defendable to implement the communications hardware internally in the products, due to a high increase of the cost for the product. This thesis tries to solve this problem by introducing a low-cost product-embedded solution for home automation. By using the Elvin protocol together with low-cost communication solutions, such as the RS232 protocol and Open/Closed circuits, communications could be embedded into products and device interaction could be implemented without increasing the cost of already existing products too much. Furthermore this thesis will discuss an implementation of an Elvin router that will act as a bridge between RS232, Open/Closed circuits and the Ethernet network that contains an Elvin server.
