Quest and Conquest in the Fiction of David Lodge / Suche und Eroberung in David Lodges Fiktion

Sava, Ramona-Mihaela January 2006 (has links) (PDF)
In spite of David Lodge’s rejection of the theories labelled as poststructuralist, this thesis proves that his novels can be interpreted from a Foucauldian perspective. The concept of discourse, seen by the French philosopher as intricately linked with knowledge, power and truth, enables the distinction of four main discourses in Lodge’s novels, religious, gender, ethnic and literary. The analysis reveals that in David Lodge’s fiction there is a perpetual struggle for power illustrating Foucault’s idea of the interdependence between power, knowledge, truth and discourses circulated by institutions.

Ganic, Kenan January 2013 (has links)
Hyllie, a large scaled urban development project in the Southern of Malmö, hopes to contribute to Malmö Municipality’s goal to be the worlds greatest in sustainable development year of 2020. The city of Malmö together with 20-something developers are building at the urban development area and by now the area is full of large scaled buildings and the pile of construction permits for a new modern bathhouse and offices, cultural centers, hotels and thousands of homes are constantly increasing. Just because of all the large-scale investments in this area, I examine the cultural aspects of urban planning in Hyllie in this paper. By studying the struggle for meaning and how it is negotiated between the municipality and commercial entities through a cultural analysis tool build mostly with geographer David Harvey’s theories about a transformation in urban governance from managerialism to entrepreneurialism, I come to the conclusion that the city of Malmö is leaning towards a planning strategies where the focus is on economic growth. As the post-industrial society is highly digitalized offering constant access to information I also look at how the media reports on the creation of meaning in new Hyllie. A transformation is revealed, showing that media year after year becomes less critical and even starts to contribute to the image of Hyllie as the city of Malmö and developers want.

Grundskola i Trollbäcken

Söderström, Olle January 2017 (has links)
For the Bachelor project in 2016 the task was to design an elementary school for about 700 students on a given plot of land in the area Trollbäcken in Tyreso. The plot was located in the northern end of Fornuddsparken whose southern part ends in Drevviken. I wanted to use the natural heights available on the site to get a varied schoolyard, especially for the lower ages. The football field has been rotated 90 degrees to get a better link between the school and the park. The school is mainly two levels with roof terraces that allow both planes to be close to the outdoor environment. Important was to create central gathering points. Therefore, sports hall is located in the middle and surrounded by wide passages and smaller niches that can be used by students and teachers for different kinds of activities. Placed in the center is also an auditorium. I have been inspired by the development of the English schools built in the 50-70’s. They came up with the concept of built-in variety, which comes from a belief that flexibility in teaching is allowed if there are rooms with different quallities.

The Impact of Rhythm and Meter on Form in Two Works by David Maslanka: Mother Earth: A Fanfare (2003) and Symphony No. 8 (2008)

Morgan, Renee K 29 August 2014 (has links) (PDF)
For pieces that do not lend themselves to an analysis of form based completely on tonal harmony and thematic material, an analysis based on rhythm and meter can enrich the reading of a piece and prove to be a more successful endeavor for the analyst. This thesis will provide such a form analysis of Mother Earth: A Fanfare (2003) and Symphony No. 8 (2008) by David Maslanka, paying special attention to the rhythmic and metrical events in addition to shifts in theme, texture, and harmony. Chapter 1, “Introduction,” addresses information about the composer, the need for research, and challenges that the music poses to the analyst. Chapter 2, “Methodology,” outlines analytical techniques used in the study, which are largely based on a method of metrical dissonance categorization designed by Harald Krebs. Chapters 3 and 4, “Mother Earth: A Fanfare (2003)” and “Symphony No. 8 (2008),” provide a form analysis of the two pieces, focusing on the behavior of meter and rhythm in each work. Chapter 5 offers conclusions that draw together the two analyses and suggest avenues for further research.

Biblical Family Systems

White, Richard J. 06 April 2005 (has links)
Systemic thought has been utilized to deconstruct various works of literature and art, such as novels, plays, and even sculptures. Even though the Bible is viewed as a work of faith by many, it also combines aspects of mythology and history with prose and poetry. Using four major theories of family therapy, namely structural, contextual, Bowenian, and narrative, the family of King David, as presented in the first and second Books of Samuel and the beginning of the first Book of Kings, is investigated and explored. Using the King James Version of the Bible as the main text, consideration is given to what each theory has to offer in expalining what occurs throughout this narrative, as well as what the David story has to say about each theory. Confirmation of certain aspects of a given theory and possible refinements to these are also given consideration. Reflexivity on the part of the author is also given consideration in the final chapter. / Ph. D.
