Dead Reckoning i bilspelJansson, Joel January 2008 (has links)

The Sound of Corpus. : Reverberating Materiality.Kettley Cronfalk, Elizabeth Florence January 2018 (has links)
The skin on her arms was like leather, wrinkly, so thin you could see the blood flow underneath thesurface. Ruption´s that reminded me of small universes or spider-like flowers leapt up and downher arms. She liked listening to the radio, or so I think. She was lying on the bed in the middle ofthe little house surrounded by trees. The massive furn wood dining table was tilted up against thewall, a defeeted gigant.Empty, empty, empty. Silent, silent, silent. The room was a shell, singing of what wasbefore time; a vase stood in the heart of the house, alabaster, smooth, cold holding thestill, distilled essence of emptiness, silence.-Virginia WoolfThe history of materiality can be expected because we have seen it. We can understand how it candisappear or slowly decay because we have at one point in time understood its presence. In mywork I have investigated how material and sound can help to define each other. My thoughts arethat the vase in this aspect is corpus, a recorder of its environment. The vase i.e. corpus stands forintimacy, connecting people in a home where everyday life occurs through communication. The oldvase has a presence, that presence vibrates of life that you can hint but not fully understand.Sound talks about the proportions between things in a different way by travelling between statesand time. How can we understand and access history that is invisible to the eye? GuglielmoMarconi (a pioneer in long-distance radio transmitting) believed that acoustic phenomena continuedto hang in the air. He thought of sounds as bodies of vibration whos decay extended to infinity.Marconi used a concept he called dead air, to describe silence. All sound that ever existed isaccessible to us if we know how to tune into it. What would the silence of the alabaster vase soundlike? In my examination work I have focused on sound to try and understand how it is connected tothe traces of life that are not written in history books.

Restos e devires (im)profanáveis: um olhar político sobre a série The Walking DeadMarques, Juliene da Silva January 2016 (has links)
This study has as object some excerpts from the first six seasons of the TV series The Walking Dead, and the theme is the dichotomy man/walker. The series gives visibility to a segregation of existences, which become close in accordance with some political-philosophical theories. In this research, the mise-en-scene, the shot, the footage, the diegesis among others components of the series were investigated, to point out the fragments that put in relief the elements that were presented during the research. Thereby, from the contemporary political philosophy, it was analyzed the relation between man/walker considering the becoming-walker of the man, and the human remains of the walker, as elements of biopolitical witnesses. In addition, it was necessary to investigate the (im)profanation on the forms of the plot.s visibility, considering the life, bare through the biopolitics, object of material and immaterial consumption, being reflex of the contemporary capitalism in the narrative. Therefore, the state of exception where the characters live was accurately searched, this state characterizing them as homines sacri, in the form of their killability. This characteristic, both sacred and cursed, has shown itself present on the diegetic survivors and from this, it was possible to determine the forms of junction and disjunction of the existences, through rhizomic relations and the profanation of the improfanable. / Submitted by Rogele Pinheiro (rogele.pinheiro@unisul.br) on 2017-10-23T16:50:36Z

O duplo em Dead of NightFaria, Walterson de January 2013 (has links)
This work approaches the theme of the double in Dead of Night, as well as the double finds its resonance in other areas, such as literature. The study seeks to verify and identify how the theme of the double appears in the film. Besides the analysis of the film, will be addressed trajectory the director Alberto Cavalcanti, who started his career in French cinema, extending across England and Brazil. The film is the period in which the director worked in England and it was produced in 1945. The work begins with a brief history of the life of Alberto Cavalcanti and his career in the cinema. Then we did a search on the topic double, emphasizing three major authors: Clement Rosset, Otto Rank and Nicole Bravo. The analysis is based on an overview of the film followed by the analysis of five episodes that compose: The Hearse Driver, The Christmas Party, The Haunted Mirror, The Golfing Story and The Ventriloquist's Dummy. The conclusion points to possible readings of this film, that these possibilities are related to the double. / Submitted by Jovina Laurentino Raimundo (jovina.raimundo@unisul.br) on 2017-10-23T16:58:40Z

Interactions with the Incorporeal in the Mississippian and Ancestral Puebloan WorldsJanuary 2014 (has links)
abstract: This research explores how people's relationships with the spirits of the dead are embedded in political histories. It addresses the ways in which certain spirits were integral "inhabitants" of two social environments with disparate political traditions. Using the prehistoric mortuary record, I investigate the spirits and their involvement in socio-political affairs in the Prehispanic American Southeast and Southwest. Foremost, I construct a framework to characterize particular social identities for the spirits. Ancestors are select, potent beings who are capable of wielding considerable agency. Ancestral spirits are generic beings who are infrequently active among the living and who can exercise agency only in specific contexts. Anonymous groups of spirits are collectives who exercise little to no agency. I then examine the performance of mortuary ritual to recognize these social identities in the archaeological record. Multivariate analyses evaluate how particular ritual actions memorialized the dead. They concentrate on treatment of the body, construction of burial features, inclusion of material accompaniments, and the spaces of ritual action. Each analysis characterizes the social memories that ritual acts shaped for the spirits. When possible, I supplement analysis of archaeological data with ethnohistoric and ethnographic information. Finally, I compile the memories to describe the social identities for the spirits of the dead. In this study, I examine the identities surrounding the spirits in both a Mississippian period settlement on the Georgia coast and in several Protohistoric era Zuni towns in the northern Southwest. Results indicate that ancestors were powerful members of political factions in coastal Mississippian communities. In contrast, ancestral spirits and collectives of long-dead were custodians of group histories in Zuni communities. I contend that these different spirits were rooted in political traditions of competition. Mississippian ancestors were influential agents on cultural landscapes filled with contestation over social power. Puebloan ancestral spirits were keepers of histories on landscapes where power relations were masked, and where new kinds of communities were coalescing. This study demonstrates that the spirits of the dead are important to anthropological understandings of socio-political trajectories. The spirits are at the heart of the ways in which history influences and determines politics. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. Anthropology 2014

regiÃo do Cariri cearense, no Nordeste do Brasil.
mortos, promovendo-lhes puniÃÃes, exemplaridades e liÃÃes que afetam os mortos e os vivos / This thesis studies the narratives concerning the apparitions and the passage of the dead among the terrene world, and the Christian after-life in the modern world. It problematizes the narrative ways and focus built in the oral memory of old, catholic people resident in the urban and rural spaces of the cearense Cariri, in the Northwest of Brazil. Developed according to reflections on the history of religious beliefs, this work dialogues with memory, imaginary and sensible concepts. This research was built according to the historical oral use, understood as the art of relations and listening. As central hypothesis this study indicates that the narratives about the presence of the dead in the terrene world and their route in the after-life takes as reference the interpretations about the Christian times, beaconed between the experience of the terrene life, the enunciation forms of the eternal and the mysteries of continuity of life across the beyond once life is comprehended as a passage. In these terms, the ways and narrative focus represent constructions of terrene temporalities and revelations of eternal time that hierarchize the dead, providing them punishment, exemplarity and lessons that affect both the dead and the living.
