The change in vocabularies of freedoms and rights in Egyptian political writings from al-Ṭahṭāwī until 1952 : a diachronic approach to lexical semantics

AlSenan, Hussah January 2016 (has links)
Human rights terms can be understood and categorised in different ways, according to various standards, in different periods of history. Studying the development of these vocabularies in their historical context provides the grounds for understanding the history of ideas involving human rights. This research used a diachronic approach to examine the changes in the use of terms associated with freedoms and rights in Egyptian political writings in three periods between 1869 and 1952. Three main sources were used as an analytic corpus: (1) Al-Ṭahṭawī’s books; (2) Muḥammad cAbduh’s political articles in Al-Waqā’ic newspaper (published 1880-1882), and (3) political articles published in Al-Ahrām newspaper (1876-1952). The semantic changes identified were assessed using two criteria: First, changes in the terms and expressions that were used to convey types of freedoms and rights were evaluated, and second, changes in the contexts in which these terms were used in three chronological periods were assessed. These periods corresponded to the period of Al-Ṭahṭāwī (1869-1873); the period of the cUrābī Revolution to prior to the Revolution of 1919 (1879-1918), and the period from the Revolution of 1919 until the end of 1952, the year of the July Revolution. The first period registered a lexical contribution represented by the production of new expressions of freedoms and rights, with very little semantic contribution. In the second period, a limited lexical and semantic expansion was found, involving an increase in terms and the entitlements to which they referred; these terms and entitlements were mainly confined to the private sphere of individuals, and new entitlements were applicable to people who did not oppose the political authorities. In the third period, terms were found to refer to entitlements for individuals in the public sphere; this was considered to be, at the linguistic level, a lexical and semantic development. In all cases, the meaning of the terms was dependent on context and thus necessarily subject to cultural and political interpretations. The study concludes with recommendations for considering the evolution of Arabic political vocabularies (mainly vocabularies of freedoms and rights) in different historical periods involving different political circumstances.

L'image et son empreinte dans les mises en scène de Daniel Benoin : Itinéraire et processus de création de la Comédie de Saint-Étienne au Théâtre National de Nice (1975-2010) / The image and its mark in Daniel Benoin’s stagings : The itinerary and process of creation from the Comédie de Saint-Etienne to the Théâtre National de Nice (1975-2010)

Derambure, Angélique 10 July 2014 (has links)
Daniel Benoin, a contemporary stage director whose personal career was a consequence of theatrical decentralization, draws his creative strength from his ability to make mental images become concrete in live shows by using numerous knowledge and artistic techniques in a hybrid way. This project on a distinctive destiny in a holist connexion with Drama enables to theorize about the creation process in which a crossed look at phenomenology and pragmatism confirms the hypothesis of a material and stylistic imprint. The comparative approach of many performances and of all the preliminary rehearsals to five theatrical shows (Wozzeck, La Cantatrice chauve, Faces, the remake of La Cantatrice chauve, Le roman d'un trader) will eventually define this mark as an idiosyncratic, formal and original one, to be found in the whole work which was studied. Thus, thanks to the help of fertile and adjustable pre-images, essential mental images settle in the heart of creation and the oneiric vision turns out to be the very essence of the artistic particularity of this stage director. Therefore the research opens up renewed angles about the aesthetics and the presence/absence of the artist in enlarged fields (such as cinema, dancing, painting, photography, music, writing).

Linguistic Politeness in Children’s Movies. : A quantitative corpus study of politeness expressions in The Movie Corpus

Jaeger, Sara January 2020 (has links)
This study aims to analyze explicit politeness markers such as please and thank you in children’s movies using The Movie Corpus. Differences in use over time as well as between children’s movies and other genres of film are investigated, by extracting a variety of frequencies from the corpus for further analysis. The results show that politeness markers are, and have tended to be, more common in children’s movies than in other genres of film. However, the results also suggest that politeness markers are decreasing in frequency in both children’s movies and in other genres of film, but that the decreases are not consistent throughout all the decades analyzed. The study suggests that we seem to be moving towards a less polite society, or one where implicit politeness markers are preferred over explicit ones. In conclusion, it is suggested that further studies are needed to determine which results of this study that are exclusive to children’s movies rather than suggesting trends in film overall.

Francouzský jazyk v českém výukovém prostředí v letech 1847-1948 / French Language within the Czech Education Environment 1847-1948

Prošková, Alena January 2014 (has links)
v anglickém jazyce: FRENCH LANGUAGE WITHIN THE CZECH EDUCATION ENVIRONMENT 1847 -1948 The objective of this dissertation thesis is to analyse the position of French language as a regular school subject taught in the Czech education environment, with focus on the era of the years 1847 - 1948. This interval was chosen intentionally to demonstrate the development and transformation of the position of French language, from the time it appeared in school curriculum as an obligatory subject, through the golden age of Francophony in the interwar Czechoslovakia of the 1930s, up until the year 1948 when the structure of taught foreign languages changed and French language lost its significant position due to the changes in political regime and the post-February policy of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. The thesis is divided into three theoretical sections which represent different points of view on period French language teaching. The initial section includes characteristics of the Czech education environment with regard to the specific types of public schools where it was taught, as well as references to the most significant education reforms which were shaping the school system during the period concerned. The aim of the opening section is to answer the question of where and under which...

Aspects de moyen et long termes dans la genèse et l’évolution des Troubles Musculo- Squelettiques au travail : une recherche dans l’industrie aéronautique / Medium and long term aspects of the genesis and evolution of Work-Related Musculo-Skeletal Diseases : a research in the aeronautics sector

Buchmann, Willy 24 June 2013 (has links)
This research aims at studying the genesis and evolution of Musculo Skeletal Diseases (MSD) in a company belonging to the aeronautics sector. We put forward a formalization of our results, examined through the prism of 1. Regulations elaborated by the workers, 2. Wear and tear phenomena, and 3. Sheltering processes for workers suffering from serious joint diseases. We have therefore built a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach, associating studies at the workshop level (ergonomic job analyses, diachronic interview carried out with the participation of company’s job physician, reconstitution of professional courses of workers reallocated because of health disorders) and a statistical approach, using the “Evrest” Observatory, undertaken in this industrial group from 2000 on.Our results provide a view of the genesis of MSD, suggest avenues for prevention, encourage to build a memory inside the company, and to analyze activity (at the micro level of workstations, as well as at company level) without separating past, present, and future periods.

Etude de la place et de la fonction des éléments supposés tardifs du livre d'Amos : contribution à la lecture de type synchronique du livre d'Amos / Study of the place and the function of the late supposed elements of the book of Amos : contribution to the reading of synchronic type of the book of Amos

Kolani, Bakimani 04 February 2017 (has links)
The two first chapters of this present study examines underlines the reasons for which biblical scholars are more and more convinced that read the corpus as a whole, in its present form, remains the best way to understand it message. The first chapter demonstrates that the commentators who advocate a diachronic approach sought and continue to justify the composition of this book by the hypothetical reconstitution of the “ipsissima verba” of Amos. They often divide the text into numerous small independent fragments; sacrificing nine passages perceived as secondary and out of place and arranges certain of them as they think fit. The second chapter demonstrates that these same passages prevent the followers of the synchronic approach agreeing on a structure capable of proving that this corpus is a very sophisticated work. The three last chapters study the nine passages often considered secondary and disparate. They show that these passages are in harmony with their contexts and their presence is essential to the literary and theological balance of the book. This study reveals de facto that, this corpus is a well-organized book with a unifying literary strategy.
