Arquivo 2.0 - des_memórias fotográficas

Pereira, Flavya Mutran January 2016 (has links)
ARCHIVE 2.0 - photographic des_memórias is a research in Visual Poetics line dealing with the concept of latency, from photographic archives available online. Addressing creation processes that investigate the image and its developments in media, procedures and technologies, explores relationships between words and photos, from two series: DELETE.use and RASTER In DELETE.use (2013-2015), the concept of latency is investigated by eliminating the human figure in photography classics, looking reinterpretation of images of various genres. Already RASTER (2012-2016), latency is analyzed by interference on the structural codes of digital photo files. In both series, we tried to create strategies to manipulate, display and share notorious photographs, observing issues related to ownership and coauthorships, collaborative artistic processes, translation and displacement directions for digital photo archives, which culminated in the formulation of the concept of des_memory as a poetic and transient state, that influence the ways of seeing and talking about photograph as a cultural asset.

This study presents a detailed mapping of the land uses along the left margin of the Canal do Rio Grande, municipality of São José do Norte. The mapping was conducted using (a) interpretation of digital photographs (35 mm) acquired by airborne sensor ADAR 1000 and (b) field surveys. A Geographical Information System (GIS), denominated SIG-MECRG/SJN, was created using the MegaGIS software. To build the GIS, it was necessary the application of geoprocessing techniques, and export and enhancement of digital photos. Additionally, data about the properties identified in the photos were obtained through interviews with local residents. The high resolution of the aerial photos (0.5 m per pixel) combined with geoprocessing techniques allowed the identification of the different targets in the urban area. The main targets identified in the area are: houses, coastline, water flows, salt marshes, dunes, and man-made changes in the landscape. The GIS allows searching of information according to specific needs from which data can be displayed in tabular or graphic formats.

Photography and the spectacle of ASỌ EBÌ in Lagos, 1960-2010

Nwafor, Okechukwu Charles January 2011 (has links)
Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / This research charts the political and visual economies of asọ ebì in urban Lagos from 1960 to 2010. Under political economy I address the politics of asọ ebì dress in Lagos: the contestations surrounding the use of asọ ebì among friends, family members, organizations, among others. Under visual economy I engage the role of photography and other visual cultural practices in the practice of asọ ebì. From the 1960s asọ ebì began to be redefined in line with the cultural and socio-economic changes that came with late global capitalism. Within asọ ebì practice in the city of Lagos meanings of friendship, solidarity, camaraderie and wealth have undergone radical transformation as more people migrate to the city after Nigeria’s independence. From the 1970s through the 1980s, individuals were compelled by the economic conditions to adopt new modes of asọ ebì practice. For example new types of textile materials used for asọ ebì expanded to include cheaper textiles imported from China and elsewhere. Instead of offering aso ebi free, individuals sold it to their friends and within such transactions, politics of exclusion and inclusion ensued. From the 1990s through the 2000s, the rise of digital photography and the emergence of radical printing technology ushered a new mode of fashioning asọ ebì. In the process, photography and fashion magazines became a means of negotiating sartorial elegance and cosmopolitan modernity. In this thesis, therefore, the central argument resides in the contestations surrounding the use and meanings of asọ ebì within these transformations in the city of Lagos.

Konstruování obrazu sebe sama v prostředí virtuální reality / Myself Picture's Design in the Virtual Reality

Průchová, Andrea January 2012 (has links)
Diploma work Self-portrait's construction within virtual reality works on theoretical base on the topic of man's digital photography displaced at the profile's web sites of internet social networks. The text evolves ontological concepts of the virtual reality and the rhizomatic antistructure in order to point out to the contemporary problem of the "new" media thinking transformation as well as the changing of visual perception of the digital portrait photography coming with new media. The unsolved situation of this transformation leads to the process of web site man's digital photograhies politisation, which the recipient ascribes the role of politician agent to. The work explains the process of photography politisation as a specific kind of co-acting of two types of visuality, that bring a new discussion and a new menace connected with digital photography online exposing to the society. The text's support in psychoanalysis and social constructivist way of thinking allows present the explorational theme as the interdisciplinary problem with the roots much further than there, where is discussed the question of safe online data sharing.

Photoware Interface Design for Better Photo Management

Liu, Ming-Liang 26 July 2006 (has links)
Submitted to the faculty of the School of Informatics in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Master of Sciences in the School of Informatics Indiana University December 2005 / Digital photography has largely replaced traditional film-based photography. Low cost and easy creation of digital files encourage people to take more photographs (photos) than before. Photo management involves selecting photos for placement into albums for future review and publishing them through different media in order to share with others. Photoware is designed to help people manage a large amount of digital photographs. To manage digital photos more efficiently, not only does software performance need to be improved, but also the usability of the software design needs to be refined. Well designed interfaces are one of the solutions to expedite the photo management tasks. The purpose of the study was to design a new photoware interface that would allow users to execute photo management tasks more efficiently. A three-phase study was designed to assess and compare Adobe Photoshop Album with Google Picasa. Phase one identified two major features that were problematic: 1) visibility of images with the photo tray features and 2) the non-existence of export templates that allow photo format settings to be placed into memory for future use. In Phase two, these two features were designed and implemented through paper and dynamic prototypes. Phase three consisted of usability testing of the prototypes. Thirty university students participated in a time-on-task study to measure the performance of the new interface. Also, user preferences were recorded through a post-task questionnaire. The users performed more quickly on the interface design with the two new features, as well as preferred them over the existing products when using mean values. However, the statistical correlation (Spearman - rank order correlation) between the two usability variables was not significant. The lack of correlation was supported by Frøkjær et al.’s view that usability measures should be considered independently. In other words, task time performance alone cannot be used to predict general user preference, because subjective preference could be affected by a range of other factors.

Blame Me for Your Bad Grade: Autonomy in the Basic Digital Photography Classroom as a Means to Combat Poor Student Performance

Johnson, Erin Collette 11 December 2013 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis explores current research on autonomy. Autonomy is defined in three categories: freedom to pose questions and encouraging student choice, trust in students to solve problems posed by those questions, and allowing student reflection on progress. Autonomy is one solution to promote intrinsic motivation in students. Autonomy supportive classrooms feature mainly language learning atmospheres in research. However, it is also pertinent to contemporary art education as it promotes an environment for student creativity. Student performance and the modes of measurement for this research project are based on common formative and summative assessment measures. Will autonomy in the classroom combat issues of poor performance? While there is significant research occurring in the field of language learning regarding student autonomy in the classroom, very little is found in the Basic Digital Photography area. This study employed an action research project in order to determine if student autonomy is an effective tool in the basic digital photography classroom. Data collected include survey results, student journals, homework completion rates, and test scores to compare the results of student performance from a teacher directed unit to a more autonomous one. A new plan of action for incorporating findings into another unit is proposed as the autonomous unit as it currently stands revealed that autonomy is not an effective tool in the manner it was utilized in this Basic Digital Photography classroom.
