Revolution i en konservativ bransch

Peine, Gilbert, Michel, Karl January 2019 (has links)
This paper examines digital transformation within the insurance industry which are in a period of change. this means that analogous processes that previously have had a large human influence will be wholly or partly automated. Companies working with developing new digital innovations within the insurance industry and using digital tools are referred as “InsurTech´s”. These companies form a link between technology and traditional insurance companies. The aim of the study is to investigate and analyze the insurance industry with a focus on the significance of digitization of the core processes. This has been done through a background-informing literature study together with qualitative interviews of selected persons who hold different positions in the industry. The study shows what effects the digital transformation has on staffing, processes, customer experiences and costs. At the same time, internal structures and the type of leadership have a potential impact on the results of digitization. The scope of the study is limited to the Swedish market and the digitization within Swedish insurance companies. This is by describing the design of the claims settlement process from an analogue to a digital perspective, which has changed the customer's perception of insurance and insurance companies.

Conceptualizing A Digital Bridge in Sports Entertainment

Liderås, Alexander January 2022 (has links)
The Covid-19 pandemic was detrimental to many industries and the sports industry was no exception. Due to ceased activity and financial deficit, sports organizations now look towards directing resources to developing digital technologies to enhance the customer experience. Jägersro Trot & Gallop is one of Sweden’s leading figures in the trotting industry, but they are suffering from financial decline and interest from customers. With no concrete plans on how to reach certain demographics, this study explores how digital technologies can help with reaching these demographics. This study introduces a new concept called Digital Bridge, which is prototyped in the form of a digital arena and then tested in two different qualitative focus groups. With a phenomenological approach, the study aims to understand the participant’s experience with the newly introduced concept. Findings show that the demographic between ages of 24-30 are prone to digital experiences presented in the prototype, with a high emphasis on socialization. Findings also show that the digital bridge can attract this demographic, even when individuals do not have prior experience with the sport. This study concludes that the concept of digital bridge can be beneficial for organizations who have difficulties in attracting new demographics.

Perceptions of value consumption of digital business platforms by informal sector Traders in South Africa

Makholwa, Clement 03 July 2023 (has links) (PDF)
This research project is a quantitative enquiry focused specifically on the value consumption of digital business platforms (DBP's) in relation to how informal sector traders (IST's) are using them to buy, sell and market their product and services in their daily trade functions. This study has adopted the approach of classifying the social media platforms, internet banking platforms and mobile payments platforms, as a single collective and defined under the banner of Digital Business Platforms. The advantage to this approach, is that it provides a multi-dimensional view of the perceived value-axis based on positive and negative experiences of using a variety of digital platforms including messaging, payments, and banking applications on their mobile phones in their daily trading functions. This study examines the positive experiences of perceived value (PV), collectively in the form of social value (SV), emotional value (EV) and functional value (FV). On the opposite end of the value spectrum, are the negative experiences of perceived risk in the form of price risk (PR) and technical barriers (TB) for the same group of informal sector traders. Understanding the relational impacts of these positive and negative experiences of value consumption, may lead to an understanding of their influence in the perceived usefulness (PU) and the perceived ease of use (PEoU) of DBP's. The results of these relationships will shed some light towards the behavioural intention (BI) to adopt DBP's and their actual usage in the long term. The analysis yielded the following results: for positive experiences, emotional value had the least impact on both perceived ease of use and usefulness and functional value was higher than social value. This means that IST's place more value on the utility of DBP's, than the emotional and social values. Regarding the negative experiences, price risk had the most significant impact on the willingness to adopt DBP's by ISTs.

The coevolution of digital ecosystems

SungYong, Um January 2016 (has links)
Digital ecosystems are one of the most important strategic issues in the current digital economy. Digital ecosystems are dynamic and generative. They evolve as new firms join and as heterogeneous systems are integrated into other systems. These features digital ecosystems determine economic and technological success in the competition among digital platform systems. However, how these ecosystems evolve over time is not yet clearly known. I describe three empirical essays in order to understand the underlying mechanism of the evolution of a digital ecosystem: 1) the underlying architecture of a digital ecosystem, 2) the evolutionary pattern of a digital ecosystem, 3) and the co-evolution of a digital ecosystem. To explore these topics, I focus on the underlying generative structure of the ecosystem and its evolutionary pattern of WordPress, which is the world largest blog platform system. I collected a comprehensive set of information about the WordPress ecosystem including over 23,000 plug-ins from January 2004 to December 2014. To analyze the data, I apply a network approach to capture the generative nature of digital technology that assumes a fractal-like structure in which digital components such as Application Programming Interfaces (API) cluster into groups that generate other groups over time. As such, I can effectively capture the hierarchical structure of a network by exploring the topological structure of sub-networks that represent the fractal-like evolutionary dynamic system mechanism. The network approach, together with the conventional statistical approach, allows me to understand the unique nature of a digital ecosystem that is different from the boundary of a decomposable system, as the generative nature of system-agnostic digital components builds on a developmental combinable system. I also discuss underlying theory, methodology, data, result, and implications and conclude by highlighting the contributions of this study and the direction of future research to further explore the evolution of digital ecosystems. / Business Administration/Management Information Systems

Verksamheten bakom digital innovation : En flerfallsstudie av digitalt mogna företag baserad på konceptet verksamhetsmodell / The organization behind digital innovation : A multiple case study on digitally matured companies based on the concept of an operating model

Stenudd, Sebastian, Uppström, Anton January 2017 (has links)
Purpose The overall purpose of the study is to develop the understanding of how digitally maturing companies design and operates the digital unit. The study has examined the organization within the companies that directly or indirectly develop digital offerings (the digital unit) towards external customers , and has utilized the holistic concept of an operating model in order to do so. The purpose is addressed by the following research question: What common factors exist between the digital units of digitally maturing companies? Method The study is exploratory in its nature with an inductive approach, in which a qualitative multiple case study was conducted. In order to study digitally matured companies, the selection process involved the help of digital experts as well as previous studies on digital maturity. In total, 21 semi-structured interviews with informants from 8 digitally matured companies were conducted, together with 4 interviews with experts in digitalization and business development. The informants had a good understanding of respective organization, and the data was complemented with publicly available information such as reports, presentations and websites. Results The results show that there are many common factors between the studied organizations that can help explain as to why they are prevalent in digital innovation and maturity. In total, 22 common themes were identified between the organizations’ digital units by studying their operating models. The identified themes were aggregated into a proposal of 4 generic design principles for how the digital units could be designed in order to prosper digital innovation. In addition, a framework for operations modelling is presented with a focus on digital units. Theoretical implications The theoretical implications from the study is primarely fourfolded: (1) the study develops the knowledge of digitally matured companies and concretizes the result from previous studies. (2) The study develops the concept of an operating model by identifying and bridging 6 academic fields. (3) The study presents a suggested framework for modelling the operations in general, and particularly for the design of the digital unit. (4) The study support a multidisciplinary approach to studying best praxis from a holistic perspective. Practical implications The results from the study can serve as inspiration when designing organizations for today’s the managers in general, and for the managers within digital innovation in particular. The suggested framework and design principles can facilitate the process of understanding and designing a synergetic operation that support the business model and strategy.

Johansson, Felix, Bjering, Rasmus January 2020 (has links)
Successful innovation work enables the development of new and existing digital products andservices. Digital innovation drives a need to act and collaborate with other companies andorganizations, which means that involving external actors can lead to challenges. Through ourliterature study, we have identified challenges and investigated how these can be handledthrough qualitative interview studies. The purpose of the study is to create an understanding ofthe challenges that exist through a literature study, and to identify suggestions on how thesechallenges can be handled through interview studies. Exploring Digital Innovation in the Construction Industry : The case of consultancy firms / Utforskandet av Digital Innovation i Konstruktionsbranschen : En studie på konsultföretag

Hermansson, Henry, Salomonsson, Axel January 2020 (has links)
The Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry is passive in employing innovative technologies and conducting change efforts. As a result, numerous companies in the AEC industry do not exploit many of the benefits, which otherwise can be achieved with digital innovations. When engaging with digital innovations, it is suggested to understand and verify the organizational capabilities of implementing new technologies instead of merely the capacity of the latest technologies considered. It is essential for organizations that go digital, to recognize a need for digital change while identifying the organizational obstacles that potentially can obstruct their change attempts. Hence, activities related to promoting and adopting new, innovative technologies are in practice concerned with change efforts, and challenges regarding how to implement and influence individuals to embrace them, thus making the best use of a considered digital tool. This research thesis explores how consultancy companies in the AEC industry are coping with the adoption and implemention of digital innovations. By taking the consultancy firm’s perspective, the thesis identifies, analyzes and addresses the main organizational obstacles that hinder digital adoption within the AEC industry. Methodologically, this research thesis builds on a qualitative single case study approach, seeking to achieve an understanding and analytical capability instead of a generalization. The qualitative means used involve 13 semi-structured interviews with employees at a Case Company as well as external experts working with digitalization and change management. Besides, through a literature review, the thesis compares and analyzes the findings from the interviews and how they are interrelated to existing literature regarding implementing digital innovations. The empirical results indicate that a main obstacle for implementing digital innovations at consultancy firms in the AEC industry is related to an inadequately articulated and mediated vision regarding the digital transformation process and the change required. The results show that the initiated and planned change projects are not systematically shared and communicated among the Case Company’s teams, and individuals alike. So, the practices for how the employees appropriately can proceed with an idea related to digital innovation are not widely understood nor shared. Accordingly, there is a lack of knowledge among managers and employees on why they should engage in digital change projects and how this can be done appropriately. Lastly, there is also a lack of time as well as financial and personal incentives allocated towards working with digital change. This research thesis emphasizes that an organizational vision, strategy, and procedures must be realized and mediated to all teams and individuals who are involved or affected by a digital change to address these obstacles. Managers and leaders need to foster the creation of change readiness required for the digital transformation process. This involves providing coworkers with sufficient prerequisites, mediating the change process and helping them to embrace it. For example, a) by explaining the benefits and the need for change, b) communicating and systematically informing the teams and individuals with the opportunities to develop necessary competences, and c) by offering guidance and managerial support. Still, it is essential to continuously evaluate change efforts to ensure that their outcome is valuable, instead of merely convincing individuals about the necessity of conducting a change.

Användning av generativ AI inom digital innovation : En kvalitativ studie ur innovatörers perspektiv / The use of generative AI in digital innovation : A qualitative study through the lens of innovators

Süvari, Andreas, Wallmark, Rebecca January 2023 (has links)
Accelerated by technology, development is progressing faster than ever. Generative AI has become accessible to the general public. It provides opportunities for businesses to leverage AI technology without significant efforts and expertise. This shifts the conditions within digital innovation. This new actor creates gaps in the literature, where previous research needs to be reevaluated. An important research area is how the use of generative AI affects digital innovation. Another aspect is how innovators can utilize and engage with generative AI in the innovation process. To investigate this, a qualitative study has been conducted, where empirical data has been collected through eight interviews. The study has resulted in a thematic model with the following themes: Generative AI as a colleague; Generative AI as resource for digital innovation; Generative AI increases accessibility to AI technology; Emotions regarding generative AI; Challenges regarding generative AI; Diverse and differentiated views on digital innovation. The study shows that generative AI can affect digital innovation through the resulting themes. Furthermore, these themes were related to the innovation process, where a modified process model for innovation has been developed. Since the use of generative AI is a relatively new phenomenon, it is likely that innovators will increase their use of the tool in the future. This may render the findings from this study quickly outdated. Further research should therefore conduct similar studies at regular intervals to capture new experiences arising from increased usage.

Preventing Inertia: Levaraging the Usage of Facebook as a Dynamic Capability

Nilsson, Fanny, Schützler, Felicia, Sturedahl, Jennifer January 2019 (has links)
Background – Inertia describes a state whereby companies develop slower relative the pace of change experienced by their environment, something most organizations experience at least once in their lifetime. Being in the state of inertia and consequently failing to adapt to change cause new businesses to replace old ones. Therefore, it is important for firms to be dynamic, which enables them to quickly recognize opportunities and threats. A way for companies to answer to these changes is to possess dynamic capabilities, which is found to be a solution for inertia. Digital innovation has played a key role in the evolution of dynamic environments. In order for companies to adapt to changing environments, the need for digital adaptation is becoming increasingly crucial. As a result, digital and social platforms have rapidly emerged throughout society, forcing companies to act to avoid stagnating in their development.   Purpose - This thesis aims to analyze how the utilization of Facebook as a dynamic capability can prevent inertia through the microscope of the Dynamic Capability Framework.   Method - Empirical data was collected through an interview study with employees at strategy and digital media consultancy firms. The participants possess extensive knowledge in the field of strategic implementation of social media. Primary data was gathered through semi-structured interviews and was analyzed in relation to the reviewed theory within inertia, dynamic capabilities, and digital innovation, by a thematic analysis. Findings - The findings of this thesis indicate that by dynamically utilizing Facebook, companies can extensively explore markets. This allows companies to continuously align existing resources by adapting and acting on identified trends within markets. Since these are actions within the Dynamic Capability Framework, a conclusion can be drawn that the usage of Facebook can be a dynamic capability. The usage of Facebook can therefore prevent organizations from entering the state of inertia. The findings further show that in order for the utilization of Facebook to be a dynamic capability, companies must possess extensive user skills and competencies. This research adds to the existing theory of digital media and business development by examining the usage of the social media platform, Facebook, through the lens of the Dynamic Capability Framework.

Digital Capability : Investigating Coevolution of IT and Business Strategies / Digital abilitet : En undersökning av samevolution mellan IT- och affärsstrategier

Sandberg, Johan January 2014 (has links)
This dissertation investigates the role of information technology (IT) in organizational strategy. Specifically, it examines how organizations can persist in turbulent competitive landscapes characterized by IT innovations. Underlying premises for this dissertation are that: (1) ubiquitous IT implies constant disruptions from digital innovation, (2) IT and practice are becoming fused, and (3) organizational strategies are dynamically linked with practice, i.e. they are reciprocally related through what organizations do rather than have. To investigate such IT strategizing processes, I outline a conceptual framework for analyzing how organizations can generate digital capability, i.e. a collection of routines for strategizing by leveraging digital assets to create differential value. Digital assets here refer to the complement of available resources and competencies for IT design and implementation. Based on the notion of dynamic capability and evolutionary theory, this framework emphasizes the importance of sensing, seizing and transforming abilities for generating digital capability. As organizational practices are becoming fused with IT scholars have argued that attempting to disentangle them analytically is futile. In a similar vein, organizational strategy is increasingly reliant on available IT resources for both formulation and execution. In the IS field it is widely acknowledged that IT has both enabling and inhibiting consequences for organizations. Drawing on the resource-based view of the firm and theory on organizational capabilities, the notion of IT capability has been widely used as a conceptual tool for analyzing these dual strategic effects of IT. Considering the explosive advances in computing, network and interaction that have resulted in IT being ubiquitous and deeply embedded in contemporary practices, recent research argues for the need to move beyond the functional view of technology implicit in the IT capability notion. A key aspect to address for such broadening of the perspective is the coevolution of IT and business practices, i.e. who (or what) leads, who or what follows, and whether such a causal distinction is meaningful. Grounded in the outlined conceptual framework, this dissertation examines how organizations can build digital capability to both enable large variation and complexity of feasible competitive actions, and reduce inhibiting effects of IT. The empirical investigation is situated in three distinct domains: boundary spanning IT innovation, transformation of existing IT resources, and hybridization of technology through digitalization of production equipment. These investigations are presented in five research papers. The dissertation contribute to knowledge of IT strategy by: (1) explicating the construct of digital capability, (2) providing a framework for coevolutionary strategizing processes, (3) presenting an empirical illustration of the coevolution of IT and business strategies, and (4) offer specific insights on design and orchestration of processes for digital capability generation.
