Dostavba objektů určených pro FA a FaVU VUT Brno v areálu Údolní / Completion of the area Údolní 53 for the Faculty of Architecture and Faculty of Fine Arts

Stejskal, Ivo January 2017 (has links)
It is necessary to ask the question of the relationship and the corresponding forms of buildings of the faculty of architecture and faculty of fine arts with the public. Due to the efforts of the faculties to open up to the public, I find it undesirable to place new objects in the courtyard and hide behind the walls of historic buildings. Much more meaningful is the use of existing buildings at the boundary of the plot. It is important to protect our history, but the protection of existing buildings should not get to the point where it will defend the presence, be on the same level, and thus ensure its quality and together to shape the future. The newly allocated creative use of the original barracks has greater demands on space, whether capacity or its generosity. Therefore, it is necessary to customize the objects for the current function. The superstructure will help keep faculties in one building. An advantage is also the connection to existing networks or vertical communications. The proposed minimalist intervention is in contrast to the historic building, making it stand out, while the verticalism of the superstructure raises the object of the original barracks to the desired institution of the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Fine Arts.

Nová synagoga Opava / New synagogue in Opava

Gášek, Daniel January 2019 (has links)
The aim of the thesis was to create an architectural study of the new synagogue in Opava. Similarly to many other towns and cities, the former synagogue was burned during Kristallnacht, the ruins were completely demolished and taken away. Nowadays there are no buildings on the site, except the former Rabbi’s house. Basic idea was in preserving the park character of the site by insertion of a non-arrogant low cuboid volume in the neighbourhood of apartment buildings from the first half of the 20th century. Designed form benefits from the character of the site while humbly avoiding construction on the actual place where the burnt synagogue stood. This creates an elegant, low object, whose two dominant ceiling slabs are filled with glass in between so it preserves a part of the park’s existing transparency and let the interior freely connect with exterior, also thanks to large sliding windows. In the center of the block is situated three sides closed atrium, which surrounds the new synagogue, into whose interior delicate scattered sunlight penetrates through the translucent onyx stone walls.

LAUSANNE – PLAINES DU LOUP: ekologické město / LAUSANNE – PLAINES DU LOUP: sustainable city development

Khaver, Anna Unknown Date (has links)
The diploma thesis raises the question of how to live differently and suggests living in the Swiss city of Lausanne. The master plan contains the basic parameters, 5,500 inhabitants, 3,000 jobs, 550,000 m2 of gross floor area. Housing is in the neighborhood of the elementary school, the design of which is thus part of the assignment. Thinking about buildings is in connection with modern standards of ecological construction. The design is based on an analysis of the environment and architectural and urban considerations about how to live well and healthily. The development of the project is shown from the concept, to a more detailed solution of the facades.

Onward and Outward: The Social and Emotional Experience of Advanced High School Upperclassmen

Scott, Lauren C. 05 1900 (has links)
This study analyzed the social and emotional wellbeing of International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB DP) students in a North Texas school district. Students were asked about their feelings toward mental health through a short-answer questionnaire and a survey. Teachers were also able to give input about how they handle mental health in their classroom and where they would like to see their students grow in terms of understanding mental health. The data shows that while students in the IB DP have questions about mental health and have an interest in becoming more independent when dealing with their mental health, they have also come up with program-specific coping mechanisms such as relationships with teachers and peers in the program. This project suggests the idea of increasing student involvement with family engagement, a student-led mentor program, and an after school organization which covers topics such as mental health and learning skills.

Implementering av International Baccalureate Diploma Programme vid fyra skolor i Sverige : En utvärdering av motstånd och möjligheter

Sims, Caroline January 2012 (has links)
The aim of this essay is to analyze the implementation process of the International Baccalaureate’s Diploma Programme in four of the approximately 30 schools currently offering the IB at upper secondary level in Sweden. The starting point is a comparison between definitions in fundamental documents in the national programmes for Natural Science (NV) and Social Science (SP) on the one hand, and the IBDP on the other. The evaluation, based on Program theory, focuses in particular on the consistencies in the Organizational plans of each system.  The basic assumption is that the IB due to a deviating organizational system, different structures, aims and objectives makes a challenge for the dominating educational discourse, to use a concept by Michel Foucault, and that resistance against the IB therefore is to be expected. As a second part of the evaluation five people who either play, or have played the role of coordinators of the IB, and who thereby are responsible for the implementation, have been interviewed. The questions have been focused around in what sense the informants can confirm resistance in their implementation work due to the differences found in the first part of the evaluation, and in what ways it manifests itself. Finally, Michel Foucault’s power structures in connection to discourse analysis have been applied on the results of the two previous parts of the essay. Foucault claims a school to be one of the state institutions acting on its behalf in conserving and defending its discourse against outside enemies. Two configurations of power are according to Foucault used in the defence; ‘marginalization’ and ‘normalization’. The result of the study confirms evidence of both power structures being found in the implementation of the IB in the four schools included in the analysis and that the resistance against the IB in these schools can be interpreted accordingly.
