L'objectif de la thèse est d'identifier et de quantifier les paramètres régissant l'épaississement des macles dans trois métaux hexagonaux (Zr, Ti, Mg). Le mécanisme que nous étudions est le glissement de dislocations d'interfaces, i.e. les disconnections, le long des joints de macles parfaits. Nous nous intéressons alors à la germination des disconnections avant de nous concentrer sur leur migration.Une première étude en potentiel empirique permet de valider un couplage original avec la théorieélastique afin d'extraire des simulations atomiques l'énergie de cœur des disconnections. Cette méthode permet de partitionner l'énergie entre une contribution de cœur, intrinsèque à la disconnection et une partie élastique qui dépend de l'environnement de la disconnection. Cette partition faite, nous modélisons alors l'énergie de formation de dipôles de disconnections isolés, pour chacun des différents joints de macles. Cette modélisation nous permet alors de sélectionner les dipôles de disconnections les plus pertinents que nous étudions par la méthode abinitio.Nous modélisons ensuite la migration des disconnections le long des joints de macles parfaits.Pour cela, nous montrons via l'utilisation de la méthode Nudged Elastic Band, que l'énergie demigration est d'un ordre de grandeur inférieur à l'énergie de formation. Ainsi, l'énergie de formation des dipôles de disconnections apparait comme prédominant dans la croissance des macles / The aim of this thesis is to identify and quantify the parameters of importance when dealing with twin thickening in three hcp metals (Zr, Ti, Mg). The mechanism we study is the glide of twinning dislocations, i. e. the disconnection, along the perfect twin boundaries. We first focus on the nucleation of disconnection before addressing their migration. A study using an EAM potential allows us to validate an original coupling between our atomistic simulations and linear elasticity in order to extract the core energy of disconnection.We then show how this coupling permits to divide the formation energy in two terms: the core contribution, intrinsec to the disconnections, and an elastic one, which depends on the disconnection's environment. Thanks to this partition, we model the formation of isolated disconnection that may appear along the different twin planes. We select the dipoles of lowest formation energies in order to perform ab initio calculations and compare the behavior observed the three different metals. We then model the migration of disconnections along the perfect twin planes. To do so, we use the Nudged Elastic Band method, and find out that the migration energy of disconnections is one order of magnitude lower than their formation energies. We therefor conclude that the disconnection nucleation is the rate limiting factor to explain twin thickening thanks to the creation and motion of disconnection

Ideological radicalization: a conceptual framework for understanding why youth in major U.S. metropolitan areas are more likely to become radicalized

This trend is coupled with the fact that more and more foreign fighters are joining Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in Iraq and Syria. In particular, Western youth have been the target of radicalization by ISIS and other terrorist groups, and the appeal and lure of such groups seem unlikely to subside. A similar trend is also evident among youth in Muslim countries where the number of foreign fighters to terrorist groups seems unlikely to decrease. According to recent estimates, over 28,000 foreign fighters have joined ISIS in Syria and Iraq since 2011. The fact that so many youth have been radicalized to join terrorist groups is a cause for concern that requires closer scrutiny, understanding, and action by Western and other governments. The explanations and motivations as to why youth join terrorist groups abound; these include lack of education, poverty, religion discrimination, family background, and political and economic marginalization, among others. This research seeks to answer the question, are the youth in the United States, who are disconnected, more likely to become radicalized to terrorism? Αντικείμενο της παρούσας διπλωματικής εργασίας είναι η μελέτη Υποσταθμού ΜΤ – ΧΤ. Αναλύονται τα μέσα που χρησιμοποιούνται για την υλοποίηση ενός ιδιωτικού Υ/Σ ΜΤ, ενώ μελετάται εκτενέστερα η διαδικασία επιλογής των μέσων εκείνων που είναι αναγκαία για την ηλεκτροδότηση ενός Μηχανουργείου, το οποίο αποτελείται από φορτία κίνησης και φωτισμού. Η εργασία χωρίζεται από δύο μέρη. Στο πρώτο μέρος, που είναι η εισαγωγή, παρατίθενται τα απαραίτητα θεωρητικά στοιχεία για την μελέτη και την σχεδίαση ενός Υ/Σ. Συγκεκριμένα, αναλύονται τα μέσα ζεύξης – απόζευξης και προστασίας ΜΤ καθώς και ο εξοπλισμός για το δίκτυο ΜΤ. Παρουσιάζονται οι τύποι παροχής των ιδιωτικών Υ/Σ, τα κατάλληλα είδη γείωσης για προστασία των ατόμων που εργάζονται σε αυτούς ή βρίσκονται κοντά, από επικίνδυνες τάσεις επαφής και βηματικές τάσεις, όπως επίσης και η απαραίτητη προστασία του Υ/Σ έναντι υπερτάσεων. Στην συνέχεια, επισημαίνονται τα χαρακτηριστικά στοιχεία, καθώς και οι τρόποι επιλογής και προστασίας των Μ/Σ ισχύος, οι οποίοι έχουν τον ρόλο του μετασχηματισμού της τάσης από ΜΤ σε ΧΤ. Γίνεται μια αναφορά στα καλώδια ΜΤ και ΧΤ και αναλύονται τα μέσα ζεύξης – απόζευξης και προστασίας ΧΤ. Επιπλέον περιγράφονται οι ηλεκτρικοί πίνακες μέσα στους οποίους τοποθετούνται τα μέσα ζεύξης και προστασίας. Επισημαίνεται η αναγκαιότητα της αντιστάθμισης αέργου ισχύος και γίνεται μια αναφορά στα συστήματα πυροπροστασίας και στην επιβεβλημένη συντήρηση του Υ/Σ. Τέλος παρουσιάζονται τα απαραίτητα εκείνα στοιχεία για τον υπολογισμό των ηλεκτρικών εγκαταστάσεων ισχυρών ρευμάτων των βιομηχανικών χώρων, οι οποίοι αποτελούνται από εγκαταστάσεις κίνησης και φωτισμού. Ακολουθούν τρία σχέδια, της χωροθέτησης των μηχανών παραγωγής έργου του Μηχανουργείου, της κάτοψης του κτιρίου του Υ/Σ ΜΤ και το μονογραμμικό του διάγραμμα στο οποίο φαίνονται όλα τα απαραίτητα στοιχεία για την κατασκευή των ηλεκτρικών πινάκων και την σχεδίαση της ηλεκτρολογικής εγκατάστασης. / Intention of the present diplomatic essay is the study of a Middle/Low Voltage’s Substation. The means used for the implementation of a private Middle Voltage’s Substation are being analyzed, whereas there is a further study of the procedure used to choose the specific means that are necessary for the power supply of a machine shop, which is consisted of movement and lighting loads. This essay is divided into two parts. In the first part, which is the introduction, all the essential theoretical information for calculating and designing a Substation is given. More specific, there is an analysis of the means of connection-disconnection and Middle Voltage protection structures, as well as the equipment for The M/V network. There is a presentation of the types of supplying private Substations and the proper grounding methods which protect people who work at them or stand close to them from dangerous types of voltages. Also the necessary protection of the Substation from overvoltage is mentioned. The technical characteristics, and the ways to select and to protect the Transformers, whose role is to transform the Middle Voltage to Low Voltage are presented next. There is a reference to the M/L Voltage cables and to the means of connection-disconnection and Low Voltage protection structures. Furthermore there is a description of the electrical boards, in which the means of connection and protection are placed. The necessity for counterbalancing the reactive power is highlighted and also the fire protection systems and the obligatory maintenance of the Substation are referred. Concluding the first part there is a presentation of the information needed to estimate electrical installations of industrial buildings, which are composed of motion and lighting installations. In the second part, there is an installation study for motion and lighting of a machine shop as well as a case study of the different structures available for setting up a private Substation M/L Voltage type A1 that will provide electrical power. Then there are three drawings. The first is about placing the different types of product machines of the machine shop, the ground plan of the M/V Substation’s building and the monoline diagram, in which all the essential information for constructing the electrical board and designing the electrical installation are showed.

It does not entail merely the work of sheltering, but it also demands educative investments that can provide the enlargement of the existential horizons for the sheltered children, bringing about their protagonism and helping them to overcome the situations that victimize them. When the principles of exceptionality and temporality are ignored, the result is the abidance of many of them in the shelters until they get disconnected after hitting adulthood. Based on the categories of analysis of the testimonial memory, we aim to rebuild the memories of the young people who exit the institutional shelters of João Pessoa (PB) about their experiences, the sense they make of the preparation for the disconnection and the formation of subjects of rights. In order to analyze the data, we have used mainly studies made by Freire (1967; 2013) and Focault (2011; 2012). Methodologically, this work is a qualitative research that utilizes the procedures of Oral History and is the result of the analysis of semistructured interviews, which constitutes our oral sources, and of the consultation of protective measures processes filed in the First Childhood and Youth Judicial Circumscription of João Pessoa (PB), which are our written sources. Based on the categories of analysis, we came to the conclusion that, when the gradual preparation for the disconnection is treated as a work front that demands educative and human rights-oriented procedures, the experience of sheltering may be positive to the young people, helping them to be protagonists in the making of decisions concerning their own lives. Nevertheless, in most cases, the work in favor of the young people’s autonomy and protagonism has been spoiled because of the absence of both an educational intentionality and a systematization of daily pedagogical practices in the shelters; because of staff turnover and the low qualification of the employees; and because of the articulatory flaws of the protection network. Since the practical incorporation of the educational principles of human rights are an achievement already accomplished in theoretical sphere, investment and commitment are now needed, so that those principles are incorporated into the daily practices of the institutional shelters. / A temática da institucionalização de crianças e adolescentes apresenta-se como objeto de investigação constantemente revisitada. A institucionalização não implica em um trabalho restrito ao mero acolhimento, mas exige um investimento educativo que amplie os horizontes existencias dos acolhidos, tendo em vista o protagonismo e a superação das situações que os vitimizam. Quando os princípios da excepcionalidade e da provisoriedade são descumpridos, o resultado é a permanência de uma relevante parcela de crianças e adolescentes nos abrigos até o desligamento por maioridade civil. A partir das categorias de análise da memória testemunhal, emancipação e autonomia, objetivou-se reconstituir as memórias dos jovens egressos das unidades de acolhimento institucional de João Pessoa/PB acerca de suas vivências, da leitura que fazem da preparação para o desligamento por maioridade e a formação de sujeitos de direitos nas unidades de acolhimento. Para a análise dos dados, utilizaram-se estudos desenvolvidos por Freire (1967; 2013) e Foucault (2011; 2012), entre outros. Metodologicamente, este trabalho constitui-se em uma pesquisa qualitativa que utiliza os procedimentos da História Oral e cuja discussão é resultante da análise de entrevistas semiestruturadas, que compõem nossas fontes orais, e da consulta a processos de medidas protetivas arquivados na 1ª Vara da Infância e Juventude de João Pessoa/PB, nossas fontes escritas. Concluiu-se, com base nas referidas categorias de análise, que quando o preparo gradativo para o desligamento é assumido como uma frente de trabalho revestida por práticas educativas orientadas pela educação em direitos humanos, a experiência do acolhimento pode se apresentar como marco positivo na vida dos jovens, auxiliando-os no protagonismo das escolhas referentes à sua própria vida. Contudo, na maioria dos casos, o trabalho em prol da autonomia e protagonismo dos jovens foi prejudicado pela ausência de uma intencionalidade educativa e de uma sistematização de práticas pedagógicas no cotidiano dos serviços; pela baixa qualificação e rotatividade dos profissionais e pelas falhas articulatórias da rede de proteção. Visto que a incorporação prática de princípios educativos de direitos humanos já é conquista concretizada no campo teórico, são precisos, agora, investimento e compromisso, para que esses princípios sejam incorporados ao fazer diário da política pública do acolhimento institucional.

nÃo hà / Essa dissertaÃÃo tem como objetivo a anÃlise dos fatores de retenÃÃo e desligamento de pessoas numa empresa de supermercados em Fortaleza, a partir do conhecimento das causas dos desligamentos de pessoas na empresa, bem como da investigaÃÃo dos fatores de influÃncia na decisÃo das pessoas de permanecerem na empresa. A relevÃncia do estudo deve-se ao aumento da competitividade no setor de supermercados em Fortaleza e pelas novas necessidades exigidas em suas estratÃgias administrativas para desenvolvimento e manutenÃÃo de vantagem competitiva. O delineamento do estudo voltou-se para a pesquisa bibliogrÃfica e estudo de caso, com objetivo exploratÃrio e de natureza qualitativa. A pesquisa foi dividida em dois universos: universo dos desligados e universo dos funcionÃrios hà mais de 2 anos na empresa. Os dados analisados foram coletados atravÃs das entrevistas de desligamento e das entrevistas aplicadas aos funcionÃrios da empresa. O referencial teÃrico procura avaliar o histÃrico das organizaÃÃes, nas suas caracterÃsticas mais relevantes para o segmento varejista, ressaltando os enfoques sistÃmico e contingencial. SÃo apresentadas, ainda, a evoluÃÃo conceitual e operacional da administraÃÃo de recursos humanos, passando pelo histÃrico da administraÃÃo de empresas, em sua abordagem clÃssica e humanÃstica e seguindo do RH tradicional ao RH estratÃgico. SÃo enfatizadas as Teorias da MotivaÃÃo de Herzberg e Maslow e sÃo descritos e caracterizados os subsistemas de recursos humanos. A pesquisa demonstra que a empresa estudada fundamenta sua administraÃÃo de recursos humanos numa abordagem tradicional, e que muitas tÃcnicas motivacionais que levam ao maior comprometimento do empregado ainda sÃo desprezadas. The relevance of the study is due the competitiveness increase in the supermarkets sector in Fortaleza and for the new necessities demanded in its administrative strategies for development and maintenance of competitive advantage. The study delineation turned toward the bibliographical research and case study, with exploratorily objective and of qualitative nature. The research was divided in two universes: universe of the disconnected staff and universe of the employees that have more than 2 years in the company. The analyzed data had been collected through disconnection interviews and interviews applied to the employees of the company. The theoretical referential evaluates the organizations description, in its more relevant characteristics for the retail segment, standing out the systemic and contingencial approaches. Conceptual and operational evolutions of human resources administration are also presented, passing through the business administration history, in its classic and humanistic boarding and following of the traditional human resources to the strategical human resources management. The motivational theories of Herzberg and Maslow are emphasized and described and the subsystems of human resources are characterized. The research demonstrates that the studied company bases its administration of human resources on a traditional boarding, and that many motivational techniques that leads to the a higher commitment of the employee are unconsidered. This aspect, however, is not the only one that influences in the decision to remain in the company. It is strongly verified, in the satisfaction or not of the employee, in its affinity with the position and in the proper conjuncture of the work market.

Play Behaviors in Latino Dual Language Learners: The Relationship between Maternal Characteristics and Classroom Peer Play

In Head Start, 28.8% of the children enrolled are Dual Language Learners (DLLs), and 84.4% of those speak Spanish as their home language. However, there are limited studies involving DLLs. Using the Ecological Model of Human Development framework with current revisions with culture as part of the microsystem (Bronfenbrenner, 1994; Vélez-Agosto et al., 2017), the current study aimed to identify maternal level factors that may relate to Latinos' classroom peer play while controlling for classroom quality. Forty-five Latino DLL children attending Head Start, their mothers, and their teachers participated in the study. Head Start administrators provided their most recent vocabulary subtest scores of VPK Assessment and their Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) scores. Child participants’ mothers completed the Bidimensional Acculturation Scale for Hispanics (BAS), the Parenting Styles and Dimensions, and the Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (QIDS16). Additionally, teachers rated the children's play behaviors with the Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale. None of the models were statistically significant, suggesting that maternal level of acculturation, parenting style, or depression do not predict peer play. Yet, there were significant negative correlations between acculturation to the Hispanic culture, permissive parenting style, and maternal depression with children’s VPK scores on the oral language/vocabulary subtest. Future studies should consider ecological and cultural approaches to allow for a broader view of Latinos' development.
