The present research seeks to describe the experiential avoidance in the grieving process of survivors of suicide loss. This is defined as the phenomenon in which the person avoids connecting with private experiences (thoughts, memories, emotions and bodily sensations) by altering the form or frequency of the context that causes them. We worked from the qualitative paradigm with a phenomenological design, in which five people in mourning for suicide participated. The instrument used was the semi-structured interview. The results show two important axes. The first regarding the use of control strategies in order to disconnect from those private experiences that cause discomfort. The second on the particular characteristics that occurs in the mourning of each person. It can be concluded that experiential avoidance mediates the suicide grief process and this has unfavorable psychological consequences, including complicated grief. / Tesis

Analýza provozu uzlu sítě po připojení jaderného bloku velkého výkonu / Grid Node Operation after Large Nuclear Unit Connection to the Grid

Prokop, Ondřej January 2016 (has links)
The thesis deals with the analysis of the grid node operation after the connection the nuclear unit. The aim of the master´s thesis is to describe the influence of network´s faults to a nuclear unit. Thesis is dealing with three fundamental problems. An influence of short circuits and power imbalance on the synchronous generator of nuclear power plant and its operation of the island network. The thesis is focused especially on the nuclear unit. However, in the case of any failure in the network, it´s necessary to check other units and their protections in the test system because unit failure could cause the disintegration of the power network. For the purposes of the simulation a test system of the power network has been developed. The test system was optimized in the LUG software, which is used to calculate the power network. Transient simulations are performed in the MODES software. Single faults are configured with scenarios. Results are generated into output files. Analysis of influence network´s faults on the synchronous generator of nuclear power plants. The ability of the synchronous generator to restore the primary steady state or hold the new steady state during changes in operating parameters of the network is one of the important parts of the safe and reliable operation of the power network. During the short circuit the damped transient actions occur. With the extension of the short circuit duration, the amplitude of the transient action increases. The risk of the stability loss of a synchronous generator increases. Therefore, the critical clearing time of a short circuit is being defined, which is the time when there is not any loss of stability. Critical clearing time of research generator is sufficient to turn off the short circuit with the help of its protection (the worst case is 0,8 s). For example, by comparison with the hydroelectric power plant, the critical clearing time is much longer. Models of other power plants have been designed with high reliability so in the case of these faults, it doesn’t cause the disintegration of the power network. Creation of island grid is characterized by strong current surges. Units must be resistant to these surges. In the island grid fast changes of the electrical parameters often occurs. Therefore, units must respond to these changes as quickly as possible and in the broadest limits. For this purpose an island operation regulator is being used. In the case of surplus island grid in steam power plants a dump condenser can be used. This is an important ability of steam power plants because the units are able to react quickly to changes of electrical parameters in island grid. The main result of this thesis is the behavior of the nuclear power plant during various faults in the power network. Researched generator of the nuclear power plant is highly stable against faults in the power network based on the findings. The results allow to continue in this topic with real network and real unit of nuclear power plant.

Les disconnexions de la substance blanche comme facteur prédictif de l’évolution de la négligence spatiale unilatérale / .

Lunven, Marine 19 December 2014 (has links)
Patients behave as if objects on their left did not exist anymore. The presence of neglect has negative prognostic value for functional recovery in the acute and chronic phases after a stroke. Finding predictors of persistent neglect would permit to adapt rehabilitation procedures. We used diffusion MRI to define the state of anatomical connections in neglect and their predictor value for neglect persistence. Our results revealed that, together with right intra-hemispheric fronto-parietal disconnections, persistence of neglect is associated with inter-hemispheric disconnection. We concluded that an isolated left hemisphere may fail to compensate neglect because it cannot take into account left-sided objects. Recovery of neglect would instead occur thanks to the sharing of visual information between the two hemispheres, notably in posterior parietal and occipital cortices. We tested this hypothesis by using prism adaptation (PA) therapy. PA is a non-invasive and convenient technique to rehabilitate neglect. We showed that patients with damaged fronto-ponto-cerebellar pathways did not benefit from PA. This finding strongly suggests that PA can ameliorate signs of neglect by improving inter-hemispheric communication through enhanced activity of these connections. Left frontal areas may constitute the anatomical link between the right cerebellum and the left fronto-parietal network. Thus, connectional anatomy can help predict both neglect recovery and the quality of its response to rehabilitation therapies

Support Humans to Socialise Outdoors : How Ambient Technology Enhances Interactions in the non-human World

Brunkhorst, Johanna Katharina January 2023 (has links)
This thesis project aims to explore social interactions in outdoor scenarios and understand how interaction design can benefit group experiences in a non-human world. By taking a human-centred approach to this project, relevant theory and design examples have been researched and synthesised. In addition, extensive fieldwork was conducted through a series of interviews and a questionnaire addressed to outdoor enthusiasts. The project implemented ambient technology to foster human relationships through conversation and shared non-human knowledge acquisition. The designed outcome benefits people's sense of community, physical health and mental well-being. Furthermore, interaction in a non-human environment contributes to a harmonious relationship between humans and the non-human world.

A MOLECULAR DYNAMICS STUDY OF AUSTENITE-FERRITE INTERFACE MOBILITY IN PURE IRON

Song, Huajing 10 1900 (has links)

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations performed on two-phase simulation cells were used to compute the Austenite (FCC) / Ferrite (BCC) boundary mobility in pure iron (Fe) over the temperature range of 600K - 1400K. An embedded atom method interatomic potential was used to model Fe and the driving force for interface motion is the free energy difference between the two phases, which was computed as a function of temperature using a thermodynamic integration technique. For low index FCC/BCC crystallographic orientations, no interface motion was observed. But for slight misorientations steps were introduced at the interphase and sufficient mobility was observed over MD time scales. A new interphase mechanism was found that instead of the moving of structure disconnection by diffusion control, growing of misfit dislocations in each steps were observed (interphase control). The interphase velocity could reach 2 m/s and the mobility at 1000K was approximately 0.001 mol-m/J-s. In agreement with previous MD studies of grain boundary mobility, we found that the activation energy for the austenite-ferrite boundary mobility was much lower than the values found from previous experiments.
/ Master of Applied Science (MASc)

Individuation and connection in mother-daughter relationships

Hsu, Shu-Chun, M.A. 30 November 2005 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to explore the processes of individuation and connection in mother-daughter relationships, and describe how these relationships may or may not be facilitated by the intervention of reflections and joint narratives. This study used social constructionism as the epistemological framework and involved in-depth interviews with three mother-daughter pairs. Hermeneutics was used to analyse the data. The participants' experiences were recounted through the researcher's lens in the form of themes that characterised their relationships as well as interactional patterns. Participant's experiences of the research process, and what the researcher believed were helpful and unhelpful behaviours in her interaction with each mother-daughter pair, were discussed. A comparative analysis was also undertaken between the common themes identified in the stories of the mother-daughter pairs and the literature. The information gained could assist women as well as professionals in understanding and respecting mother-daughter relationships in their specific contexts. / Psychology / M. A. (Psychology)

Suspensão do fornecimento de energia elétrica pela ótica do Código de Defesa do Consumidor / The disconnection of the energy supply from the point of view of consumer protection law

No. of bitstreams: 1 Daniel de Lima Passos.pdf: 1134692 bytes, checksum: 7174ed9150b34afd0b4977a17a7187c4 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-05-20 / The subject of this paper is to study the disconnection of the energy supply from the point of view of Consumer Protection Law and to discuss the possibility of the disconnection of this type of public service when faced with an individual customer's failure to pay. Although judicial precedent for this matter has already been agreed, to a certain extent, before the Superior Justice Tribunal, the subject is still the source of heated debate, especially as it deals with the denial of the customer's right to maintain the availability of this resource (electric energy). Such an initiative stemmed from our concern about the applicability of the norm in favor of the consumer, which at times is unconditional and doesn t evaluate the real case. The fulfillment of the contract is necessary for its continuity. Failure to comply could result in the reversal of the current legal order and clear social harm not just individual harm. Thus it was attempted to put into context the legal possibility of disconnection according to the sector's legislation and consumer law. As such, to start with, the proposal of this paper is to outline the history of electric energy in Brazil, its legal structure and the players in the market. Finally, without forgetting the social benefit of this necessary public resource, the conclusion is that as long as legal procedures are followed an individual costumer's failure to pay should result in the disconnection of the energy supply as this is for the social good / Este trabalho apresenta como temática de estudo a suspensão do fornecimento de energia pela ótica do Código de Defesa do Consumidor e discute a possibilidade de suspensão deste tipo de serviço público ante a inadimplência do consumidor singular.

Supporting Distributed Transaction Processing Over Mobile and Heterogeneous Platforms

Xie, Wanxia 28 November 2005 (has links)
Recent advances in pervasive computing and peer-to-peer computing have opened up vast opportunities for developing collaborative applications. To benefit from these emerging technologies, there is a need for investigating techniques and tools that will allow development and deployment of these applications on mobile and heterogeneous platforms. To meet these challenging tasks, we need to address the typical characteristics of mobile peer-to-peer systems such as frequent disconnections, frequent network partitions, and peer heterogeneity. This research focuses on developing the necessary models, techniques and algorithms that will enable us to build and deploy collaborative applications in the Internet enabled, mobile peer-to-peer environments. This dissertation proposes a multi-state transaction model and develops a quality aware transaction processing framework to incorporate quality of service with transaction processing. It proposes adaptive ACID properties and develops a quality specification language to associate a quality level with transactions. In addition, this research develops a probabilistic concurrency control mechanism and a group based transaction commit protocol for mobile peer-to-peer systems that greatly reduces blockings in transactions and improves the transaction commit ratio. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to systematically support disconnection-tolerant and partition-tolerant transaction processing. This dissertation also develops a scalable directory service called PeerDS to support the above framework. It addresses the scalability and dynamism of the directory service from two aspects: peer-to-peer and push-pull hybrid interfaces. It also addresses peer heterogeneity and develops a new technique for load balancing in the peer-to-peer system. This technique comprises an improved routing algorithm for virtualized P2P overlay networks and a generalized Top-K server selection algorithm for load balancing, which could be optimized based on multiple factors such as proximity and cost. The proposed push-pull hybrid interfaces greatly reduce the overhead of directory servers caused by frequent queries from directory clients. In order to further improve the scalability of the push interface, this dissertation also studies and evaluates different filter indexing schemes through which the interests of each update could be calculated very efficiently. This dissertation was developed in conjunction with the middleware called System on Mobile Devices (SyD).
