Nos não conseguimos enxergar dessa maneira ... = representações e formação de educadores / We can only see things this way ... : representations and teachers education

Santos, Marcia Andrea dos 15 August 2018 (has links)
This study aims at describing and discussing the representations educators who work in public schools in a district of southeast Paraná have of concepts such as language, culture and identity in order to understand the meanings they attribute to local linguistic and socio-cultural diversity. Although the context these educators work in includes considerable ethnic variety, only representations of indigenous and afro-descendent people were examined considering the relevance of such ethnic groups in the area. The analyzed corpus include data collected during written activities and classroom interactions that occurred along eight encounters with teachers and school principals and assistants in a course sponsored by CEFIEL - Center for Continuing Education of the Institute of Language Studies of the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). This study is qualitative and interpretative in nature and follows the epistemological principals suggested by Moita Lopes (2006) for applied research. The theoretical bases adopted was oriented by contributions from the fields of Applied Linguistics (COX e ASSIS-PETERSON, 2007; CESAR e CAVALCANTI, 2007; FABRÍCIO, 2006; MAHER, 2007), Cultural Studies (HALL, 1997; WOODWARD, 2002), Education (SKLIAR, 2003; SILVA, 2005), Anthropology (THOMAZ, 1995) and Sociology (ELIAS, 1994; BOURDIEU, 1998; FOUCAULT, 2002). Data analyses results suggest that most research subjects a) operate with theoretical conceptions in regard to the three focused concepts which contribute for the maintenance of ethnocentric beliefs and attitudes of disrespect for differences and /or b) do not know, or prefer not to acknowledge the considerable linguistic and socio-cultural plurality of the context in which the act professionally. The expectation is that the research here described can contribute to the elaboration of intercultural curricula for the education of school professionals thus enabling them to work with differences in school environments in more productive and respectful ways / Doutorado / Multiculturalismo, Plurilinguismo e Educação Bilingue / Doutor em Linguística Aplicada

A inclusão da diversidade sexual na Universidade / The inclusion of sexual diversity in the University

Milene Soares Agreli 23 January 2018 (has links)
As transformações precisam atingir todas as instâncias do ensino, desde o ensino fundamental, passando pelo ensino médio para, enfim, alcançar o ensino superior / Our objective was to know the life histories of university students who experience sexual diversity as well as to find out how their teachers receive them in the classroom to understand the contemporary phenomenon of the inclusion of sexual diversity in the University. In this way, we orient the development of this study from the following three theoretical axes: \"Horizons of the understanding of gender and sexual diversity in the contemporaneity\", \"The educational inclusion of sexual diversity and the University, and\" The body, speech and sexuality in Merleau-Ponty\'s phenomenology.\" In order to carry out such an attempt, we chose the phenomenological qualitative methodology, under Merleau-Pontys theoretical assumptions. The collaborators were contacted according to the procedure Snowball. A total of five students were interviewed: three transsexuals, one intersexual and one drag queen, and five teachers, one man and four women, who have had, or have, students in their classes who experience sexual diversity. In the reports of all the collaborating students it has arisen 5 categories: In the horizons of the family; The school trajectory: from elementary to middle school; In the horizons of the University; and Life project. In a unique way, in the transsexual students\' reports emerged the category: World-transsexual life; for the intersexual student emerged the category Intersexual World-Life; and in the report of the student drag queen emerged the category World-life Drag Queen. And for the teachers emerged 4 categories: The perceived body; Sexual and gender diversity in the University; In the horizons of teaching, and intersubjectivity and consciousness. The reports of our collaborators and their teachers reveal that the world-lives of these students are immersed in stigma and suffering. There are many challenges to effective inclusive education for sexual and gender diversity. Transformations need to reach all levels of education, from elementary school, through high school and, finally, to higher education

Radio access mechanisms for massive machine communication in long-range wireless networks / Mécanismes d'accès radio pour la télécommunication de type machine massive dans les réseaux sans fil à longue portée

Song, Qipeng 07 November 2017 (has links)
As a key step toward a smart society, apart from the Human-to-Human (H2H) communication, the future wireless networks, are expected to accommodate Machine-to-Machine Communication (also known as Machine Type Communication (MTC)). The latter is a new communication paradigm in which the devices can talk with each other without or with little human intervention. With the rapid proliferation of M2M applications, a huge number of devices will be deployed in many types of use cases such as smart metering, industry automation, e-health, etc. However, the current wireless networks are still not ready to hold traffic from MTC. The reason is twofold. First, the evolution of the wireless network seeks for higher throughput and lower latency. Second, the special features that MTC exhibits, such as huge number of deployed devices, small payload but frequent transmission, adverse installation location, etc., lead to that the requirements by H2H are no longer required by most of M2M use cases. From the state-of-the-art work, we find that two possible research orientations to efficiently handle M2M traffic: Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) and adaption of the existing cellular networks. For both of them, the radio access mechanisms, used in Radio Access Network (RAN), is vitally important to make MTC a promising technology. From this view, radio access mechanism is the main focus of our studies. In this thesis, we present the contributions covering the aforementioned aspects: performance evaluation of ALOHA-based LPWAN networks, and a polling service that is an extension to RAN of LTE networks for periodic M2M traffic. The contributions of this thesis are summarized on the following axis: We make a survey about the energy efficiency related studies in the literatures. The main contribution in this survey is to review, classify the existing research works into different categories, and compare the pros and cons between categories. We also review the advances of the LPWAN related study. We study the impact of transmit power level diversity and imperfect power control to the slotted ALOHA based LPWAN systems. Some insightful design guidelines are obtained by manipulating the established analytical model. We study the performance of LPWAN system with macro reception diversity. By stochastic geometry, we get simple closed-form formulas for the packet loss rate and spatial throughput, which were unknown before. These formulas are very useful to analyze LPWAN networks (especially in urban areas) and to quantify the system capacity gain. By gathering several available results about the analysis of non slotted ALOHA, we finally get a synthesis framework to study the RAN of LPWAN. In terms of adaptations to RAN of LTE networks, we first analyze the conventional random access mechanism in LTE and identify the existing inefficiencies. We then propose a multiple period polling service for periodic M2M use cases. The proposed service is compared with conventional random access mechanism in LTE in a fluid model. The numerical results show that the proposed service dramatically reduces the consumption of system resources such as Radio Network Temporary Identifier (RNTI), Resource Block (RB) and has a higher energy efficiency due to the avoidance of random access procedure and related signaling messages.

Do lentic and lotic communities respond similarly to drying?

Rosset, Véronique, Ruhi, Albert, Bogan, Michael T., Datry, Thibault 07 1900 (has links)
Disturbance is a central factor shaping composition, structure, and dynamics of local communities. Drying is a disturbance that occurs in aquatic ecosystems globally and can strongly influence their communities. Although the effects of drying may depend on ecosystem connectivity and the dispersal abilities of resident species, there have been no comparisons of community responses to drying between lentic and lotic ecosystems across different climates. Here, we predicted that drying would have stronger effects on aquatic communities in isolated lentic ecosystems than in dendritic lotic ecosystems, owing to the higher hydrological connectivity of the latter, and that drying would have stronger effects on passive than on active dispersers, because of the potentially higher recolonizing ability of the latter. We tested these predictions by comparing alpha diversity, phylogenetic relatedness, and beta diversity for active and passive dispersers, in both ecosystem types across five climatic regions. Drying caused greater declines in alpha diversity in lentic than in lotic ecosystems. Communities that experienced drying were more similar to one another than those of perennial sites, and this pattern was especially pronounced in lentic ecosystems. In contrast, drying did not influence the contributions of turnover and richness gradients to beta diversity. Additionally, dispersal mode did not influence community responses to drying. Relatively weaker effects of drying in lotic compared to lentic systems were likely due to the hydrological connectivity among perennial and temporary river sites, which may facilitate dispersal of organisms to escape drying and recolonize rewetted sites. Collectively, our results suggest that habitat connectivity may ameliorate (and fragmentation may worsen) the impacts of drying disturbance. This is an important finding in light of increasing drying and concomitant aquatic habitat fragmentation under global change.

Perceptions of diversity management in a public sector organization /government institution within the Western Cape

Veldsman, Dehlia Melissa January 2013 (has links)
Magister Commercii - MCom / In modern organisations, diversity management is seen as an important factor for success. If diversity is not managed correctly, it could impact how and if organisations meet their goals. The purpose of diversity management is to get to a point of utilisation of skills of individuals. Research (Erasmus, 2007) suggests that diversity management success is highly dependent on perceptions of employees. The main intent of the current research was to gain an insight into employee perceptions around workforce diversity. These perceptions were evaluated using the Workplace Diversity Survey with a sample of public sector employees to ascertain whether there are statistically significant differences in employee perceptions based on age, gender, population group and directorate. Informed consent was sought from the HR manager in the public service department where the research was undertaken. A cross sectional study was conducted and based on a convenience sample of 200 voluntary participants within the public sector. Data was captured and analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21. The results indicate that there are statistically significant differences with respect to gender, age, population group and , respectively, and perceptions of diversity. These findings suggest, that, despite 20 years of democracy within South Africa, on-going training and development of employees is required, along with frequent surveys to determine how individuals react to a heterogeneous workforce.

Between Words and Deeds: Diverse Voices and the Communicative Constitution of Diversity

Branton, Scott E, II 01 July 2017 (has links)
While diversity is widely discussed throughout management literature, the impact of diversity management on diverse organizational members remains exceedingly sparse. Furthermore, the present case study uses a communication centered approach to address how diverse faculty member’s organizational experiences with diversity align with an academic institution’s publicly stated values of diversity. Through a critical interpretive lens, 15 semi-structured, in-depth interviews of diverse faculty members were conducted at a medium sized, Southern university (“Southern U”). Findings suggested that contradictions were heavily embedded into Southern U’s diversity communication resulting in a host of paradoxical tensions for diverse faculty members. This study explored the communicative constitution of organizations and how organizations constrain and enable diversity through communicative enactment.
