L'oeuvre théâtrale de Didier-Georges Gabily : poétique d'une mémoire en pièces / Didier - Georges Gabily's theatrical work : poetics of a memory in plays

Leroy, Séverine 28 January 2015 (has links)
This thesis covers the work of French writer and stage director Didier-Georges Gabily (1955-1996), his published and unpublished texts as well as production archives and interviews with his actors and collaborators. The perspective is that of a poetics of memory, a disenchanted vision of contemporary society that transpires out of the confrontation of the past with the present, resulting in the deconstruction of myths in contemporary dramatic space, be they myths bequeathed by former directors/actors or political myths such as communism; in either case, these two angles open a perspective onto a community in the making. The analysis is based on an observation of the impact of memory upon both dramatic structure and speech/dialogue patterns, as a recurrent dramaturgical structure resting on a former catastrophe is what the characters are constantly – and helplessly – trying to piece back together. As a result, action is replaced by narrative, which results in aseries of monologues, a “romanization” of drama (Sarrazac). The approach is based on aesthetic criteria together with the analysis of the dynamics of history in the work (both as a series of topoï and as a structuring pattern) to offer a reading of the work that reveals the complex interplay of time and performance in the author’s quest. The influence of the concreteness of the stage on Gabily’s writing is analysed in the last section of this research and reveals a process of perpetual hybridization, manifesting the importance of the actors’ bodies and the materiality of the stage in his writing. The analysis of the different threads in the fabric of literary and artistic heritage in Gabily’s work for the stage reveals the emergence of an aesthetics ofresistance going against the overall violence prevailing in liberal society

L'ambiguïté dans les formes récentes de "théâtres de la parole" : un renouvellement de la dimension politique du théâtre / Ambiguity in the recent forms of th "theatres of speech" : a new political dimension of theatre

Yener, Melisa 14 November 2014 (has links)
Our purpose is to establish the specificity of recent publications (1990 – 2009) identified as the “theatres of speech”, and based upon a worldwide corpus. These plays shape a new political dimension for theatre through ambiguity, considered as an opening for several interpretations, mutually incompatible. In opposition to the vast majority of political theatre works of the XX century, the authors selected in the present corpus refuse to control the outcome of their work on the reader or audience member, or to orientate his/her interpretation in one direction. Ambiguity, in irony and parody, generally causes two kinds of reception: the naïve one, based upon agreement (approval, belief, or fascination), in a context which makes it discordant, or, on the other side, the critical one. The political dimension of these plays appears in the opportunities given to the reader or audience member to question, all by himself, the kinds of manipulation (such as strategy of speech or narration), their effects, as well as the reception habits which make them efficient. These works can then contribute to reduce the impact of manipulation forms based upon habits of naïve reception; hence reduce the action range of strategies based on a “scheme of domination” (Rancière). However, no certainty exists that such opportunities will be used by the reader or audience member. The new political dimension lies in the fact that its visibility is deliberately connected to the singular encounter between the play and each reader or audience member.

Mascaramentos em espaços urbanos: processos pedagógicos de criação de dramaturgia(s) / Masking in urban spaces: pedagogical processes of creation of dramaturgy (s).

Kamla, Renata Ferreira 22 March 2018 (has links)
This research benefits from pedagogical processes of creation of dramaturgy (s) which is developed through the interaction of the \'body masks\' of the artist, the \'passers-by-spectators\' and the public space. I present a dramaturgy thought in an expanded and procedural way, defined by the displacement and infiltrations of these masked bodies in urban space, by the organization of the actions of the masked performers interacting with space and with an ephemeral audience that observes and follows, taking with them their perceptions. The unpredictability, the imponderable, the presence of the performer who acts motivated by his subjective, political, and social issues, and not by a character that will play, are present in this process of creation. Thus being part of the artistic and pedagogical procedures proposed. This is based on the ideas of Josette Féral about the \"performative theater\" and \"daily theatricalities\", and Érika Fischer-Lichte\'s ideas of \"perceptual multistability\", when she talks about the spectator who is in \"between\" the \"order of representation\" and the \"order of presence\".

Ciné-danse : histoire et singularités esthétiques d’un genre hybride / Screendance : history and aesthetic singularities of a hybrid genre

Walon, Sophie Geneviève 09 December 2016 (has links)
Screendance is a hybrid artistic form which inextricably interweaves the technical and aesthetic properties of both dance and cinema. It is not a new genre: in a certain sense, screendance has existed since the very beginnings of cinema. It was first theorised, however, in the mid-1940s by Maya Deren, whose film-manifestoA Study in Choreography for Camera (1945) proved central to the recognition and development of this most transdisciplinary category of dance films. Nevertheless, it is only from the 2000s and even more-so from the 2010s onwards that specialisedfestivals have proliferated and that the genre has begun to receive theoretical attention. This dissertation is thus a contribution to the emerging field of screendance studies: it proposes a historical panorama of the genre and examines its formal and dramaturgical specificities, many of which have not yet been the object of in-depth analysis. This examination aims in particular to explore screendance from the previously unconsidered perspective of its hyper-sensoriality and the originalcorporealities it constructs.I begin by retracing the larger history within which screendance has grown that of dance in film and especially that of dance films. I then propose a more specific history of screendace proper. Next, I emphasise the fecundity of the artistic hybridisation which defines screendance by analysing certain of its formal and dramaturgical singularities. More specifically, I examine its sui generis usage of closeups, its (re)materialisation of bodies through a hyper-sensorial and synaesthetic treatment of images and sounds, as well as its strange corporealities and the critical implications they suggest. Finally, I focus on a crucial dimension of screendance: the places it investigates and its complex interrogations of the relationships between body and space. This dissertation paints a historical and aesthetic portrait of a hybrid art, an eminently corporeal and sensorial genre, a site-specific practice; it celebrates experimental works which explore the richness of an artistic cross-over and highlight the materiality of bodies as well as the sensoriality of dance and film.

Teatro do concreto no concreto de Brasília: cartografias da encenação no espaço urbano / Teatro do Concreto at the concrete of Brasilia: cartographies of staging on urban space

Carvalho, Francis Wilker de 05 November 2014 (has links)
The present work investigates the relationship between the scene and the city, in the perspective of staging. It aims at identifying and analyzing methodological procedures that might contribute to the theater director\'s work itself. How to stage on urban space? Which meanings might emerge from space when a scene is set at a specific place in the city and how to operate them considering the place itself determines different appeals to it? In order to answer these questions the work is devoted to some theoretical approaches to concepts such as practiced space and dramaturgy of the city which delivers themselves a transdisciplinary dialogue with areas such as architecture and urbanism, especially English movement Archigram; as well as notions related to the artistic field such as site-specific; magnetized spaces; invasion theatre; urban composition and theatres of the real. Furthermore, in the methodological perspective of critical processes, it examines the creative paths of the plays \"Diário do Maldito\"; \"Ruas Abertas\" and \"Entrepartidas\" created by Brasilia based group Teatro do Concreto (Concrete Theatre), in order to describe and analyze rehearsal practices and creative procedures present in the relationship between the group and the city of Brasilia. Finally, in light of theoretical reflections and artistic experiments explored here, it brings forward some possible cartography of staging on urban space, according to which apparent principles and general aspects of staging meet the living and dynamic woof of the city.

Arquiteturas do Risco e do Inesperado: Derivas Documentárias e Dramáticas Fraturadas na Cena Paulistana Contemporânea / Architectures of Risk and Unexpectedness: Documentary Drifts and Fractured Dramatics in São Paulo\'s Contemporary Scene

Mocarzel, Evaldo Sérgio Vinagre 26 February 2018 (has links)
This thesis investigates the text production and the work of theater companies based in the city of São Paulo which I have been documenting since 2006: Teatro da Vertigem, Os Satyros, Os Fofos Encenam, Grupo XIX de Teatro, Companhia Livre, Club Noir, Companhia Estável and Teatro Kunyn, among others. One of the aims of this research project is to compose a panorama of the diverse and effervescent contemporary São Paulo scene, which has been bursting with vitality for the past few decades. As a stage documentarian and a playwright, I have interacted with these companies with an artist\'s outlook so as to analyze the dramatic aspects of their final productions and the collective creations in playwriting often sparked by collaborative processes. After studying the theoretical foundation of each group, I set out to investigate how those influences permeated the group\'s history and how they were decanted into text, generating fractured dramaturgies marked by traces of creative processes, by improvisation and workshops derived from research and personal testimonies, by interactive cracks in the public\'s response and by the wide possibilities opened to the cast\'s performance and the unpredictability of the urban setting. I have also analyzed the narrative structure of films made in partnership with these companies, focusing on the different dialogues and on the hybridization of the theatrical and cinematic languages.
