Background: Ransomware attacks are a significant threat to digital informa-tion, and with the increasing adoption of cloud storage services, attackers now targetcloud environments. The existing literature on ransomware detection has primarilyfocused on local environments, and there is a limited body of research on applyingthese approaches to the cloud environment. Objectives: In this thesis, we aim to develop a behavior-based ransomware de-tection system for cloud environments, specifically focusing on Google Drive, usingmachine learning techniques. We will create a dedicated Google Workspace and uti-lize the Google Cloud Platform for developing the anomaly detection classifier. Methods: We will review related work in ransomware detection and machinelearning approaches to select suitable techniques for our research. Our anomaly de-tection classifier will analyze user activities in the cloud, such as file access patternsand permission changes, to detect deviations indicative of ransomware attacks. Results: We will validate our system’s performance by conducting experimentsin our Google Workspace, emulating ransomware attacks, and comparing the classi-fier’s performance against existing techniques. Conclusions: Our thesis aims to contribute a novel, behavior-based detectionsystem for ransomware attacks in cloud environments, advancing the state-of-the-artand providing a scalable solution for various cloud storage providers.Keywords: ransomware detection, cloud environments, behavior-based detec-tion, machine learning, Google Drive.

Evaluation of a Simulator Based, Novice Driver Risk Awareness Training Program

An advanced training program on risk perception was developed and evaluated in a driving simulator. This training program included two elements. The first one was a PC-based Risk Awareness and Perception Program (RAPT) that had been developed and evaluated in several studies by researches at the Human Performance Lab within the last several years. Plan views of risky scenarios were used to explain to participants the location of potential hazards. The second element of the training (SIMRAPT) was newly developed for this study and used the portable low-cost driving simulator Drive Square Simulation System to train risk perception skills while the participant actually drove a real car in a virtual environment. A head mounted display was used to present the virtual world. Feedback was given to participants when they failed to scan appropriately for hazards. Twelve novice drivers served as experimental group and were trained with the combined RAPT/SIMRAPT training program. Twelve other novice drivers were given training not relevant to hazard anticipation and served as the control group. After training, both groups were evaluated on an advanced driving simulator (different from the Drive Square Simulation System used in SIMRAPT training) and the eye movements of both groups of drivers were measured. The drivers’ score was based on whether or not their eye-fixations indicated recognition of potential risks in different driving situations. The evaluation included eight scenarios used in the RAPT/SIMRAPT training (near transfer scenarios) and eight scenarios that were not used in the training (far transfer scenarios). The results indicated that trained drivers are more likely than untrained drivers to fixate on regions where potential risks might appear. Further the evaluation indicates that the training effect of the combined training using both the PC (RAPT) and a low-cost driving simulator (SIMRAPT) is larger than for training programs that only use the PC, though not significantly so.

BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC M.S., UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS AMHERST Directed by: Professor Stephen DeStefano Salt drive is a seasonal phenomenon common to several classes of wild herbivores. Coincident with shifts of nutrient quality when plants resume growth in the spring, sodium is secondarily lost as surplus potassium is excreted. The beaver (Castor canadensis) is an herbivore whose dietary niche closely follows that of other herbivores that are subject to salt drive, but no published studies to date have assessed the likelihood of its occurrence. To quantify if beavers experience seasonal salt drive, we designed a field experiment to measure the foraging responses of beavers to sodium-enhanced foods. We used sodium-treated (salted) and control food items (aspen [Populus tremuloides] and pine [Pinus spp.] sticks) during monthly feeding trials at beaver-occupied wetlands where water lily (Nymphaea spp. and Nuphar spp.) was present and where water lily was absent. If conventional ontogeny of salt drive was operant, we expected to observe greater utility of sodium-treated food items by beavers in May and June. Further, if water lilies supplied beavers with sodium to meet dietary requirements as is widely speculated, we expected foraging responses to sodium-treated food items at wetlands where water lilies were absent to be greater than at wetlands where water lily was present. Aspen was selected by beavers in significantly greater amounts than pine. There was no difference between the mean percent consumed of salted and control aspen sticks by beavers at lily and non-lily wetlands, and no differences in temporal consumption associated with salted or control pine sticks at either wetland type. Salted pine was consumed in greater amounts than unsalted pine. We propose that the gastrointestinal or renal physiology of beavers may predispose them to low solute loss, thereby preventing salt drive.

The research looks at the advantages and disadvantages of a hydraulic auxiliary drive (HAD) system which is installed on a 25 meter long timber transport vehicle. The purpose is to investigate the performance with regard to energy, economy and environment of the system due to the added components, the hydraulic accumulators. The auxiliary system that is used on the vehicle is simply a hydrostatic transmission system. Ideally, the fuel consumption and cost can be reduced by using accumulators. To verify this hypothesis, model-based simulations were performed in a software environment and the result was analyzed for a linear and repeatedly accelerating and decelerating driving cycle. Additionally, comparisons were made between the HAD system with and without the assistance of accumulators. From the simulation results, the system assisted by accumulators consumes approximately 14% less fuel than the other. And it produces 15% more tractive effort when the vehicle is accelerating. The paper also includes the determination of the size of accumulators, both theoretically and with simulations. By comparison, there is a small difference between the results from the theoretical calculation and the simulations, which might be caused by a neglecting the volumetric losses in the simulation process. Ideally, an accumulator with a size of 57 L was found to be the most efficient size for the studied driving cycle. Beyond that speed, the efficiency will decrease to some extent. Physical tests are not presented in this paper, but they will be done in the future. / Den presenterade forskningen studerade fördelar och nackdelar med ett hydraulisk hjälpsystem för fordonsdrift (HAD) för en 25 meter lång timmerlastbil. Syftet var att undersöka hur drivlinans prestanda med avseende på energy, ekonomi och miljöpåverkan, påverkas av de adderade komponenterna, de hydrauliska ackumulatorerna. Hjälpsystemet är helt enkelt ett hydrostatiskt transmissionssystem. Idealt, kan bränsleförbrukning och kostnad reduceras genom att använda ackumulatorer i systemet. För att verifiera denna hypotes, har modell-baserade simuleringar utförts och resultaten har analyserats för konstantfartskörning och en körcykel med upprepade accelerationer och inbromsningar. Dessutom, har ett HAD-system med och utan ackumulator jämförts. Simuleringsresultaten visar att ett system med ackumulatorer förbrukar ca 14% mindre bränsle än ett system utan ackumulatorer. Ett ackumulatorstött system ger också 15% högre framdrivningseffekt vid accelereration. I avhandlingen dimensionera också storleken på ackumulatorerna, både teoretiskt och med simuleringar. Det finns en liten skillnad mellan resultaten från den teoretiska beräkningen och simuleringarna, som kan bero på att volymetriska förlusterna inte har tagits med i simuleringarna. En ackumulator med en storlek på 57 L visar sig ha den mest effektiva storleken för den studerade körcykeln. Vid högre körhastigheter, kommer verkningsgraden att minska till viss del. Inga fysiska tester har gjorts, men de kommer att utföras i framtiden.

Model Predictive Control of Electric Drives -Design, Simulation and Implementation of PMSM Torque Control

The thesis deals with the design of a permanent magnet synchronous machine controller that isimplemented on an embedded platform to replace the off-the-shelf controller currently being used in theelectric race car of the KTH Formula Student team. Software implementation of the control algorithmwas tested in laboratory environment on the hardware prototype of a 2-level three-phase voltage sourceinverter.Field oriented control and finite control set model predictive control algorithms were implemented insimulation environment. The latter performed better in terms of reducing switching activity and torqueripple, but needs vastly more computational resources due to its nature of being an online optimizationproblem. Trade-off curve of phase current harmonic distortion and switching activity showed that themodel prediction control algorithm performs better in the low frequency range (1-20 kHz). Obtainedsimulation results were used for power electronics component selection.Field oriented control was implemented on a TMS320F28335 DSP. SPI communication was employedto configure gate driver circuits and perform error handling. The DSP program follows interrupt basedorganization and the main control loop runs on the variable frequency of the pulse width modulation.Low voltage test results on three-phase inductive-resistive load showed that the controller outputssinusoidal current. Efficiency measurement, high voltage and motor testing were hindered by interferencefrom the Silicon-Carbide MOSFETs that prohibited correct operation of hardware. / Den här uppsatsen handlar om designen och implementeringen av en motorstyrning för en permanen- magnetiserad synkronmotor, med syfte att ersätta standardmotorstyrningsenheten i KTH Formula Students tävlingsbil. Implementationen av styralgoritmen testades experimentellt tillsammans med en prototyptillverkad frekvensomriktare i labbmiljö. Regleralgoritmer för field oriented control och finite control set model predictive control implementerades och testades i simuleringsmiljö. Den senare algoritmen visade sig prestera bättre i form av lägre vridmomentsoscillationer trots lägre switch-frekvens men den kräver samtidigt mer beräkningskraft. Övertonsinnehållet (THD) i fasströmmarna som funktion av switchfrekvensen undersöktes för de båda regleralgoritmerna, algoritmen för model predictive control gav lägre THD vid lägre frekvenser (1-20 kHz). Simuleringsresultaten användes för att motivera valet av komponenter till frekvensomriktaren. Regleralgoritmen för field oriented control implementerades och testades experimentellt med hjälp av ett utvecklingskort (TMS320F28335) från Texas Instruments. SPI-kommunikation användes för att konfigurera drivkretsana samt för att utläsa felkoder. Experimentalla tester som utfördes på låg spänningsnivå visade att strömmen till lasten var sinusformad. Mätning av verkningsgrad och provning tillsammans med motorn på en högre spänningsnivå gick inte att geno av att de snabba switchförloppen i kiselkarbidtransistorerna störde ut motorstyrningen.

Drive-based Modeling And Visualization Of Crew Race Strategy And Performance

Crew race strategy is typically formulated by coaches based on rowing tradition and years of experience. However, coaching strategies are not generally supported by empirical evidence and decision-support models. Previous models of crew race strategy have been constrained by the sparse information published on crew race performance (quarterly 500-meter splits). Empirical research has merely summarized which quarterly splits averaged the fastest and slowest relative to the other splits and relative to the average speed of the other competitors. Video records of crew race world championships provide a rich source of data for those capable and patient enough to mine this level of detail. This dissertation is based on a precise frame-by-frame video analysis of five world championship rowing finals. With six competing crews per race, a database of 75 race-pair duels was compiled that summarizes race positioning, competitive drives, and relative stroke rates at 10-meter intervals recorded with photo-finish precision (30 frames per second). The drive-based research pioneered in this dissertation makes several contributions to understanding the dynamics of crew race strategy and performance: 1) An 8-factor conceptual model of crew race performance. 2) A generic drive model that decomposes how pairs of crews duel in a race. 3) Graphical summaries of the rates and locations of successful and unsuccessful drives. 4) Contour lines of the margins that winning crews hold over the course of the race. 5) Trend lines for what constitutes a probabilistically decisive lead as a function of position along the course, seconds behind the leader, and whether the trailing crew is driving. This research defines a new drive-based vocabulary for evaluating crew race performance for use by coaches, competitors and race analysts. The research graphically illustrates situational parameters helpful in formulating race strategy and guiding real-time decision-making by competitors. This research also lays the foundation for future industrial engineering decision-support models and associated parameters as applied to race strategy and tactics.

Exploring News Engagement among Young Adults through Motivational Core Drives

This study uses a qualitative methodological approach to investigate how core drives from the Octalysis framework can influence news engagement among young adults. This study conducts semi-structured interviews to identify young adults’ core drives and attitudes that influence news engagement, followed by participatory design sessions in order to explore gamification opportunities. The results show that understanding what core drives influence young adults’ motivation, can clarify how gamification could be implemented to increase their news engagement.
