The Impact of E-Commerce on Parcel Shipping Operators in The EU and The USMuralidharan, Rohit January 2018 (has links)
Parcel carriers are susceptible to changes in the supply chain industry, as the carrier industry consists of many stakeholders who have an impact on the way they function. The stakeholders in the carrier industry are directly affected by the market trends that in turn affect the carrier business. Currently, E-commerce has a major influence on supply chain design, the operation of parcel carriers and the consumers. One main area of this thesis study is to analyse the impact of E-commerce on the parcel carriers in the EU and the US. Over time, E-commerce has caused a shift in the logistics industry that has made the carriers update the solutions they provide to their customers and to update their operations to accommodate the changes brought about by E-commerce. Since the operations of carriers in the EU and the US are different, this study focusses on five major parameters (Segmentation, Networks, Services, Specification and Tariff Structure) that help understand the carriers better in these two regions. This study will also help European Logistics Software Providers to re-organise themselves so it may help them to perform better integration processes between the carrier and their customers. It is evident that E-commerce has affected the parcel carrier industry and that the Logistics Software Providers must consider these parameters to have harmonized collaboration between the stakeholders in the supply chain. It is also difficult to normalize the selection of factors to be considered in the selection of a parcel carrier since the factors have a different effect in different regions around the world.

Avancerad webbteknologi i mobila webbläsare / Advanced Web Techonology in Mobile BrowsersBjörk, Linus January 2011 (has links)
The web develops fast and web applications are getting more advanced. At the same time the mobile browsers develop at a rapid pace. However, it still differs a lot between a mobile browser and a standard web browser. You also interact with a mobile phone in a different way than what you do with a computer. This thesis examines whether it is possible to create advanced web applications that by utilizing the latest web technologies can replace ordinary mobile applications. The investigation is done by creating a lightweight version of a phone application, Mobile Documents on Symbian S60, which is an application that manages documents, emails and attachments. The development is done in Google Web Toolkit and technologies such as AJAX and Comet are both used. As the number of different types of phones with touch screens is very large the investigation only will target a small number of phones running web browsers as Mobile Safari, microB and Android Browser. The conclusions of this report is that the JavaScript support of today's browsers is enough to run advanced web applications. However, it differs a lot between browsers and the main problem is to create a functional user interface that works equally well on all phones and with all the different interaction possibilities that a mobile phone gives.

Linguistic sexism : A study of sexist language in a British online newspaperDemberg, Rebecca January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this study is to investigate the occurrence of sexist language-use in the British online newspaper The Daily Mail. The material consists of 162 articles that were analysed by using feminist stylistics. The scope of the study was limited to selected features from feminist stylistics at word- and discourse-level. The features of linguistic sexism analysed were the use of gendered generic words, naming of females and males and how female and male characters are described. The gender of the journalists was also analysed to examine if it affected the language-use in terms of sexism. The results show that linguistic sexism is expressed to some extent at both word-level and discourse-level. At word-level linguistic sexism is expressed inthe generic use of some masculine words, the difference of how first name and surname are used to refer to women and men and in the use of titles. At the level of discourse linguistic sexism is expressed in the difference of how women and men are referred to in terms of their relationship to others and in terms of appearance. The gender of the journalist did not show any significance for the language-use in terms of sexism. Considering the limited material of the study, the results might not be suitable for generalisations. The results are nonetheless interesting and it can be concluded that the toolkit of feminist stylistic is relevant to this day and that linguistic sexism exists to some extent in the online version of The Daily Mail.
