Desconstruindo velhos mapas, revelando espacializações: a economia colonial no centro da América do Sul (primeira metade do século XVIII) / Deconstructing old maps, revealing spatializations: the colonial economy at the center of South America (first half of the 18th century)

Tiago Kramer de Oliveira 05 December 2012 (has links)
This thesis present a study about the spatialization of the colonial economy in the mines of Cuiabá and of Mato Grosso, in the center of South America in the first half of the eighteenth century. In the first chapter we demonstrate how some recurring images and interpretations about the economy reproduced in the colonial territories that would form the captaincy of Mato Grosso, are imposed regarding the documental evidences and are reproduced without questioning the assumptions that underpin them. In the second chapter, we defined our theoretical and methodological positioning in relation to cartographic documents. In the third chapter we analyze maps classified as sertanistas. We demonstrate that an analysis of rustic maps of sertanismo reveals a logical of the Portuguese expansion distant of the interpretations consecrated about these maps. In the fourth chapter we reconstruct the process of formation of rural environments in the first decade of colonization in the mines of Cuiabá, revealing the structuring a diversified land structure facing the trade and the internal market. In the fifth chapter we analyze the relationship between and administrative practices and the colonial economy spacialization. In the sixth chapter, we relate the economy spacialization at the center of South America with the transformations of the economy in the first half of the eighteenth century, in various scales.

Abstract: This research aims at understanding the construction process of the Early Childhood Education Policy in the city of Campinas, São Paulo State, from 1993 to 2008. For that purpose, documents that were under the custody of the Municipal Education Department (SME), as well as others collected from professionals who have worked in different positions in the Municipal Department of Education were taken as sources. The research assumes a critical and interdisciplinary perspective and consists of a qualitative research. The procedures for data collection are based on March Bloch (2001) and Le Goff (2003), especially in the construction of the concepts of document and monument, selection processes, organization, critical and documental analysis. From the work with the documentary sources, three recurring and meaningful axes emerged that gave visibility to continuities and discontinuities in the Early Childhood Policy. They are: political-pedagogical guidelines, teacher training and curriculum. The research revealed that the document was a powerful support to the understanding of the early childhood education policies implemented, of the actors and of the processes experienced. The work showed that the policies implemented by the municipal administrators operated in accordance with legal changes at the national level, with the theoretical and methodological conflicts in the political and scientific areas and with the international conferences that claim to the early childhood education the alienated right to initial, continuing and in-service education, and the assistance of infants guided on the inseparable concepts of educating and caring. / Doutorado / Ciencias Sociais na Educação / Doutora em Educação

Shadows = a new means of representing documents = Shadows : uma nova forma de representar documentos / Shadows : uma nova forma de representar documentos

Orientador: Claudia Maria Bauzer Medeiros / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Computação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-20T18:00:12Z (GMT). This hampers document exchange, as well as their annotation and retrieval. While information retrieval mechanisms concentrate on textual features (corpus analysis), annotation approaches either target specific formats or require that a document follows interoperable standards - defined via schemas. This work presents our effort to handle these problems, providing a more flexible solution. Rather than trying to modify or convert the document itself, or to target only textual characteristics, the strategy described in this work is based on an intermediate descriptor - the document shadow. A shadow represents domain-relevant aspects and elements of both structure and content of a given document. Shadows are not restricted to the description of textual features, but also concern other elements, such as multimedia artifacts. Furthermore, shadows can be stored in a database, thereby supporting queries on document structure and content, regardless document formats / Mestrado / Ciência da Computação / Mestre em Ciência da Computação

Clustering of Image Search Results to Support Historical Document Recognition

Espinosa, Javier January 2014 (has links)
Context. Image searching in historical handwritten documents is a challenging problem in computer vision and pattern recognition. The amount of documents which have been digitalized is increasing each day, and the task to find occurrences of a selected sub-image in a collection of documents has special interest for historians and genealogist. Objectives. This thesis develops a technique for image searching in historical documents. Divided in three phases, first the document is segmented into sub-images according to the words on it. These sub-images are defined by a features vector with measurable attributes of its content. And based on these vectors, a clustering algorithm computes the distance between vectors to decide which images match with the selected by the user. Methods. The research methodology is experimentation. A quasi-experiment is designed based on repeated measures over a single group of data. The image processing, features selection, and clustering approach are the independent variables; whereas the accuracies measurements are the dependent variable. This design provides a measurement net based on a set of outcomes related to each other. Results. The statistical analysis is based on the F1 score to measure the accuracy of the experimental results. This test analyses the accuracy of the experiment regarding to its true positives, false positives, and false negatives detected. The average F-measure for the experiment conducted is F1 = 0.59, whereas the actual performance value of the method is matching ratio of 66.4%. Conclusions. This thesis provides a starting point in order to develop a search engine for historical document collections based on pattern recognition. The main research findings are focused in image enhancement and segmentation for degraded documents, and image matching based on features definition and cluster analysis.

The Morally-minded education in social studies : A study about how social studies can be morally-minded

Smedberg, Alexandra January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of my study is to gain insight into how the education system (particularly social studies) is morally-minded based on the governing documents, former students and a textbook. I wanted to find out what morally-minded means and if it has a big role in social studies. Through interviews with former high school students (when my thesis is aimed at high school) I wanted to find out how they felt their social studies were educational and which the values that they had taken on from the lessons. I also chose to analyze a textbook to get a broader understanding of how the morally-minded education is written in specific areas relating to social studies. My study is a qualitative study and what I came up with is that the former students consider their social studies teaching lacked to some degree when it came to the morally-minded education.   My investigation concludes that the morally-minded education is important in social studies as the purpose of social studies is to promote active democratic citizens. In the curriculum for social studies, there is also a considerable scope for knowledge that is educational for the students. Although the former students feel that they lack the morally-minded educational part of social studies they agreed with the guidelines which values that is important.

Algoritmy detekce obchodních dokumentů podle šablon / Algorithms for business document detection using templates

Michalko, Jakub January 2016 (has links)
Thesis deals with analysis and system design for automatic document recognition. The system explores the document and converts it into text data with information about the position of the word in original document. These data will then be reviewed and some of them will be assigned their importance. The way the data will be assigned is based on rules which may vary according to user needs. According to the data, their assignment and the importance of their position, the system finds a similar document and identifies the current document. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Étampes et la Bretagne : le métier de gouverneur de province à la Renaissance (1543-1565) / Etampes and Brittany : the profession of provincial governor in the Renaissance (1543- 1565)

Rivault, Antoine 01 July 2017 (has links)
For more than twenty years (1543-1565), Jean de Bretagne, duke of Étampes, governs Brittany as King’s governor and lieutenant. Heir of the Counts of Penthièvre, he became a faithful servant of the Valois to whom he owed each one of his honors. Some renewed sources, both epistolary and administrative, make it possible to seize the profession ofprovincial governor in the process of integration to the kingdom of France, between the reign of Francis I and the first wars of Religion. If the armed defense role of a reputed border province is central, the governor deals with many other problems on a daily basis. Above all else, he is supposed to be the link between the province and the king. Broker but also intercessor, the governor is undoubtedly a preeminent political actor in the province. First gentleman of the province, all his networks, influences and powers must be analyzed as a whole to better understand the daily life of a type of royal servant often misjudged and misunderstood by historiography.

Piano practice : practice routines and techniques for concert piansts

Wallick, Bryan January 2013 (has links)
This study investigates the various types of practice concert pianists utilize in preparation for performance. There are surprisingly few published documents which examine the highest levels of piano practice, and this study examines these scarce ideas in comparison with the newly collected material given by eight selected concert pianists regarding their practice methods, techniques and regimes. Keyboard practice techniques from the middle of the 19th century until the present are examined and presented here. Some of the techniques are physical applications of how to practice the instrument, and others are mental preparations which suggest philosophical guidance toward physical practice or enhance performance capabilities. Advice from many famous (older) concert pianists regarding their practice is compared with the newer advice of the eight pianists selected for this study. The amalgamation of all the compiled suggestions should enlighten any pianist’s approach toward practice, and could also be a helpful compendium to any professors of piano who wish to offer a wider variety of practice methods to their students. / Thesis (DMus)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / hb2013 / Music / unrestricted

Finding digital forensic evidence when graphic design applications are used for document counterfeiting

Mabuto, Enos Kudakwashe January 2013 (has links)
Graphic design applications are often used for the editing and design of digital art. The same applications can be used for creating counterfeit documents such as identity documents (IDs), driver’s licenses or passports, among others. The products of graphic design applications, however, leave behind traces of digital information which can be used during a digital forensic investigation. Although current digital forensic tools are designed to scrutinise systems with the purpose of finding digital evidence, the tools are not designed to examine such systems specifically for the purpose of identifying counterfeit documents. This dissertation reviews the digital evidence relating to the creation of counterfeit documents and gathered from graphic design applications. Digital evidence gathered in this way consists mainly of identifying and corroborating the counterfeiting events that occurred on a particular system. Firstly, such an analysis is accomplished by establishing linkages between the digital forensic information that has been gathered and the specific actions that were performed when the counterfeit documents were created. Such actions comprise scanning, editing, saving, and printing. The researcher is able to compile a dossier of the digital forensic information that is generated by such actions by analysing the files that were generated by making use of a particular graphic design application for document creation. Secondly, the researcher extends the analysis to the actual files created by the application user. These files can be used as evidence to establish linkages between the content of the counterfeit documents that are being investigated and the document editing actions that are necessary for creating such documents. The researcher gathers digital forensic information of this kind by analysing the different file types that are associated with these applications. The researcher then gathers the associated timeline evidence separately by means of a third analysis that identifies timestamps from the application’s system files and evidence files. The researcher is then able to draw a timeline from the timestamps to illustrate the sequence of events that occurred. From the digital evidence gathered in this way it is possible to propose a two-pronged counterfeiting investigation process. This proposed investigation process is application and platform independent. The researcher concludes the study by transforming the model into a working prototype by demonstrating how the prototype is capable of analysing and extracting digital forensic information from certain graphic design application file types and log files. Such a prototype is capable of identifying the system that was utilised for counterfeiting particular documents or identifying whether a specific document is counterfeited or not. / Dissertation (MSc)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / gm2014 / Computer Science / unrestricted
