Στόχος της παρούσας εργασίας είναι η περιγραφή της ταυτότητας και η ευρετηρίαση του ετήσιου εγκυκλοπαιδικού εντύπου Ποικίλη Στοά με εκδότες αρχικά τον Ιωάννη Αρσένη και πολύ αργότερα τον Μιχαήλ Ραφαήλοβιτς. Η Ποικίλη Στοά κυκλοφόρησε στην Αθήνα την περίοδο 1881-1914 ανά διαστήματα. Η κυκλοφορία της μπορεί να διακριθεί σε τρεις περιόδους: περίοδος Α΄: 1881-1898 (1881-1887, 1889, 1891, 1894-1896, 1898), περίοδος Β΄: 1899 και περίοδος Γ΄: 1912-1914. Απαρτίζεται από 16 τόμους και εξετάστηκε στο σύνολό της. Η μελέτη της Ποικίλης Στοάς έγινε με βάση το ψηφιοποιημένο αντίτυπο που φυλάσσεται στο Εθνικό Λαογραφικό και Ιστορικό Αρχείο (Ε.Λ.Ι.Α.). Ψηφιακό αντίτυπό της βρίσκεται στη διαδικτυακή βάση Κοσμόπολις της Βιβλιοθήκης και του Κέντρου Πληροφόρησης του Πανεπιστημίου Πατρών. Μέρος της εργασίας αυτής θα αξιοποιηθεί από τη Βιβλιοθήκη και το Κέντρο Πληροφόρησης του Πανεπιστημίου Πατρών για τον εμπλουτισμό του Πίνακα Περιεχομένων του ψηφιακού αυτού αντιτύπου. Η παρούσα εργασία αποτελείται από δύο μέρη: στο πρώτο και εισαγωγικό μέρος, ύστερα από μια σύντομη αναφορά στο ημερολογιακό είδος, στο οποίο εγγράφεται η Ποικίλη Στοά, εξετάζεται το περιεχόμενό της και παρουσιάζονται τα συμπεράσματα της έρευνάς μου σχετικά με την ύλη και τους συνεργάτες (συγγραφείς και μεταφραστές) της έκδοσης. Όπως θα φανεί, η ταυτότητα του εντύπου δεν προσδιορίζεται μόνο από τις προθέσεις του εκδότη ή των εκδοτών του, αλλά από το σύνολο των συνεργατών και το είδος των συνεργασιών που αυτοί προσφέρουν. Το δεύτερο μέρος της εργασίας αποτελείται από οκτώ (8) πίνακες, στους οποίους ευρετηριάζονται δεδομένα του εντύπου. Θα πρέπει να σημειωθεί ότι η Ποικίλη Στοά από το έτος 1899 χάνει τον ημερολογιακό της χαρακτήρα και προσειδιάζει σε περιοδικό. Συγκεκριμένα, την δεύτερη (1899) και τρίτη περίοδο (1912-1914) κυκλοφορίας της έχει πλέον τον χαρακτήρα του περιοδικού, όπως δείχνουν και οι νέοι υπότιτλοι: «Εθνική Εικονογραφημένη Επετηρίς» (1899, 1912) και «Εθνική Εικονογραφημένη Επιθεώρησις» (1914). / --

This action research study investigates the effectiveness of math journals, a writing-to-learn in mathematics tool, for improving grade one students’ communication of and understanding in mathematics. The relevant literature is comprehensively reviewed. Data collection takes the form of: pre-and post-questionnaires, samples of student math journal entries, teacher-research observations of student writing, and teacher-researcher field notes. The data gathered from four diverse students is selected, analyzed, and discussed. The findings suggest that students’ use of math journals can be: an effective means of enhancing learning and communication in mathematics; a way for the teacher to learn more about students’ mathematical thinking; and, a vehicle for encouraging written/drawn dialogue between students and the teacher, hence, informing ongoing instruction.

Although much has been written on the 1930s as a period of ferment and innovation in New Zealand’s literary culture, the immediate post-war period has remained largely unexamined. As an outcome, literary histories have tended to downplay the significance of the Centennial publications and overlooked the impact made by the literary-cultural periodical to the post-war literary economy. The formulation of a conversation within the pages of the journals and the associated creation of the culture-critic were central to the cultural nationalism of the period 1947-61. It is argued in this thesis that the ‘long fifties’, the years from the cessation of the Second World War through to the early sixties, were a discrete moment in New Zealand’s literary history. To understand the success of the journals as a form of intervention their founding needs to be traced not only to Phoenix and Tomorrow – journals of the thirties – but also to the programme of publishing that was part of the 1940 Centennial celebrations. Under the leadership of J. C. Beaglehole and E. H. McCormick, the Centennial publications contested the existing structures of cultural authority that lay with the amateur historian and the literary criticism of the ‘bookmen’. Beaglehole and McCormick professionalised the discourse of history writing and literary criticism through the introduction of academic practice, and, significantly, a rigorously critical engagement with the formation of national identity. Their critical engagement acted as an encouragement to the founding of the literary-cultural journal during the late 1940s: Landfall begun publishing in 1947 and Here & Now followed in 1949. This thesis argues, however, that alongside these two independent journals there needs to be placed the Listener under the editorship of M. H. Holcroft, and that these three publications created sites where the imaginative could sit next to the critical, and that this development was based on the belief that the absence of a critical undertaking would stunt the growth of the culture’s imaginative and creative undertaking. During the period 1947-61 the development of a specific form of intervention in the writing of the culture-critic can be detected. The culture-critics sought to actively engage the reading public in a conversation; therefore, they wrote for the periodicals in a style that was accessible but discriminating; they understood that they had a specific function within society. Furthermore, the primacy attached to the cultural authority of Brasch and Landfall is contested, and it is instead claimed that an exclusive focus on Landfall distorts the overall temper of the post-war years. Landfall was but one site where the developing national consciousness was published and assessed; it was a disputatious time.

The purpose of this study is to answer the question: How does the Online Trombone Journal address the issues of credibility, accessibility, and permanence in the publishing of an electronic journal?Documents from the Online Trombone Journal were examined in order to discover what specific methods are in place addressing credibility. Issues of prominent brass-related print journals were examined in order to locate article citations. Interviews were conducted with authors who are published in both an established print journal and the Online Trombone Journal. The Online Trombone Journal was searched for in both standard print indices and also on-line search engines in order to determine accessibility. To investigate permanence, on-line documents at the Online Trombone Journal concerning archiving were investigated, and an interview conducted with the publisher.The existence of a Review Board at the Online Trombone Journal, as well as standard guidelines for the review process indicates that credibility is addressed through peer-review of articles. Research showed that articles in the Online Trombone Journal have not yet begun to appear in other scholarly resources.In the area of accessibility, the content of the Online Trombone Journal is not yet indexed in standard music indices. The Online Trombone Journal does rank very high in searches using the term "trombone" on Internet search engines.Addressing permanence, research shows that apart from visiting the Online Trombone Journal web site, there is no other method for accessing its content. Thepublisher of the Online Trombone Journal indicates that a CD-ROM of all articles will be published and distributed to libraries and collection agencies in order to address the issue of permanence.The Online Trombone Journal has done an effective job of addressing the concerns of credibility and accessibility in on-line journal publishing. Permanence, an ongoing concern for all a journals, is a concern to the publisher, and will be addressed in the near future. / School of Music

Η παρούσα εργασία έχει στόχο τη διεξοδική καταλογράφηση των συνεργατών του περιοδικού Πλανόδιον από το 1ο μέχρι το 49ο τεύχος του. Η κατάταξη γίνεται με μορφή καταλόγων, κατά αλφαβητική σειρά και διάκριση με βάση το είδος του δημοσιεύματος με το οποίο ο κάθε συνεργάτης εμφανίζεται στις σελίδες του (ειδολογική ταξινόμηση). Παράλληλα, συνοδεύεται με αναλυτική παρουσίαση των περιεχομένων του περιοδικού, ώστε να αναδειχθούν το ύφος, ο χαρακτήρας, το περιεχόμενο και η δομή του, ενώ τέλος θα ολοκληρωθεί με μια κριτική αποτίμησή του. Το Πλανόδιον είναι ένα ιδιαίτερο λογοτεχνικό περιοδικό που έχει αφήσει το δικό του ιδιαίτερο στίγμα στον λογοτεχνικό χώρο (και θα συνεχίσει να το αφήνει), κυρίως με τη συνέπεια, το κύρος και την αγάπη που διακρίνει τον εκδότη και τους συνεργάτες του για τη λογοτεχνία. Δεν είναι διόλου τυχαίο πως το Πλανόδιον διατηρεί μια ξεχωριστή φυσιογνωμία που την οφείλει στον ευγενικό ιδρυτή και εκδότη του, τον συγγραφέα Γιάννη Πατίλη. Ξεκινά «αρχικά ολιγοσέλιδο, με βασικό άξονα ενδιαφερόντων τα κριτικά και φιλολογικά δοκίμια, βιβλιοκρισίες και σχόλια, περιέχει όμως και σύγχρονη ελληνική - ξένη ποίηση και πεζογραφία». / This work aims at the extensive registry of the contributors of the magazine Planodion from its first to its forty-ninth issue. Its classification follows a registry pattern using alphabetical order and distinction based on the type of publication each contributer follows on his pages. Simultaneously, it is accompanied by an analytical presentation of the contents of the magazine, therefore distinguishes the style, the character, the content and the structure, whilst concluding with his critical assessment. The Planodion is a particular literary magazine which has marked its own special stigma in the domain of literature (and will continue to do so) mainly on the consequences, the prestige and the love that distinguishes the editor and his colleagues in literature. It is by no means accidental that the Planodion maintains its distinct physiognomy which is due to the kind founder editor and writer Yianni Patili. He began initially with a few pages with particular interest in critical and literary essays, book reviews and commentaries, which also include contemporary greek and foreign poetry and proze.

Η παρούσα μελέτη έχει διττό χαρακτήρα, περιγραφικό και ερμηνευτικό (ο ερμηνευτικός της χαρακτήρας ασφαλώς δεν είναι εξαντλητικός αλλά οριοθετημένος στο επίπεδο και στο πλαίσιο αναγκών της). Σημείο εκκίνησης της εισαγωγής αυτής είναι: α. η διερεύνηση των προθέσεων της συντακτικής ομάδας του περιοδικού και η ένταξή τους στην περιρρέουσα ατμόσφαιρα της εποχής (ιστορικά, κοινωνικά και λογοτεχνικά συμφραζόμενα των αρχών του 20ού αιώνα στην Κέρκυρα αλλά και στον ευρύτερο επτανησιακό χώρο)∙ β. το ιδεολογικό και αισθητικό υπόβαθρο την περίοδο της δημιουργίας της Κερκυραϊκής Ανθολογίας, με άλλα λόγια όλες εκείνες οι κοινωνικές, πολιτικές αλλά και οι εν γένει καλλιτεχνικές συνθήκες και ζυμώσεις, οι οποίες οδήγησαν στη σύλληψη και εν συνεχεία εξέθρεψαν πνευματικά τη συγκρότηση του περιοδικού και γ. η περιγραφή των προγραμματικών στόχων, καθώς κλιμακώνονται ή και αποκλιμακώνονται ανάλογα, κατά τη διάρκεια της εκδοτικής πορείας της Κερκυραϊκής Ανθολογίας∙ αποκλίσεις –συγκλίσεις, αντιστοιχία ή μη των λόγων και έργων του περιοδικού, ανακολουθίες και γενικότερα αυτό που θα καλούσαμε ιδεολογικό-αισθητικό πλαίσιο ή και ορίζοντας προσδοκιών της διεύθυνσης του περιοδικού. Ακολουθεί μια ευσύνοπτη αναφορά στους ιδρυτές του περιοδικού και στην εν γένει πρόσληψη και υποδοχή του από τα άλλα έντυπα και την κριτική της εποχής. Παράλληλα, εξετάζονται ορισμένα από τα στοιχεία της προσωπικότητας των κυριότερων συντελεστών που δημιούργησαν ή και φιλοτέχνησαν τις σελίδες του περιοδικού, τις επιλογές τους που καθόρισαν και το ύφος της Κερκυραϊκής Ανθολογίας. Επιπλέον, από την περιγραφή των δύο διαφορετικών περιόδων λειτουργίας του περιοδικού, τις θέσεις και τις αντιθέσεις που προέκυψαν από την πλευρά των συνεργατών, απορρέουν και τα ανάλογα συμπεράσματα που αφορούν στην ιδιοσυστασία, αλλά και στην απαγκίστρωσή του από το αρχικό προγραμματικό πλαίσιο, που τελικά προκάλεσε και τα σημάδια γήρανσης και τελμάτωσης. Για τον λόγο αυτό, επειδή η δεύτερη περίοδος κυκλοφορίας του περιοδικού είναι σίγουρα η πιο ενδιαφέρουσα, δίνεται μεγαλύτερη έμφαση στα νέα πρόσωπα που προέρχονται από το αθηναϊκό κέντρο για να απαντηθούν, στο βαθμό του δυνατού, τα ερωτήματα, αν πρόκειται δηλαδή για σύμπτωση ή νομοτελειακή κατάληξη, δρομολογημένη ήδη από το κερκυραϊκό περιβάλλον. Από την περιδιάβαση στις σελίδες του περιοδικού ανασυστήνεται το κλίμα της επτανησιακής λογοτεχνικής παραγωγής και η πορεία της που βρισκόταν σε ύφεση και παρακμή, αλλά κατόρθωσε εν τούτοις να αποδείξει τη σημαντική συμβολή του εντύπου στη διαμόρφωση της ιστορίας της νεοελληνικής λογοτεχνίας. / -

Pesquisa destinada a avaliar as notícias sobre arquitetura publicadas nos jornais da cidade de São Paulo: Folha de São Paulo, O Estado de São Paulo e Jornal da Tarde, foram separadas notícias, notas, artigos, resenhas, colunas, e entrevistas sobre arquitetura no período dos anos 2000, 2001 e 2002. Partindo-se do conceito de que pouca coisa é divulgada sobre o tema arquitetura e temas correlatos, tais como urbanismo e desenho industrial, foi feita essa pesquisa no sentido de verificar a procedência da hipótese, e possíveis causas e efeitos de uma eventual lacuna na informação dos jornais. Todos os artigos encontrados do período foram catalogados, cadastrados e analisados, e alguns foram comentados no desenvolvimento da dissertação. Procurando sempre o aspecto da crítica e análise da arquitetura, a maior parte das matérias foi selecionada dos cadernos culturais dos jornais; também se buscou compreender a capacidade que essas matérias têm em serem compreendidas pelo público leigo e informarem, de maneira a atrair o público leitor em geral para temas da arquitetura. Este foi o motivo por terem sido escolhidos veículos de comunicação de massa, e esta foi a principal idéia que motivou a pesquisa. / The objective of this research is to evaluate news published about architecture in the newspapers of the city of São Paulo: Folha de São Paulo, O Estado de São Paulo e Jornal da Tarde. News, articles, paragraphs, interviews etc about architecture were selected from the editions of these newspapers in the years 2000, 2001, and 2002. Based on the concept that very little is published on the subject of architecture and related themes, such as urbanism and industrial design, this research was undertaken in order to verify the accuracy of this hypothesis, and the possible causes and effects of this lack of information in these newspapers. All articles found during the period were catalogued, registered and analysed, and some were commented on during the development of the dissertation. Searching the critic and analyses aspects, most of the materials were taken from the cultural sections of the newspapers and the focus was on the way in which the theme of architecture is dealt with. The research also attempted to understand the capacity of these textual materials to be understood by the lay public (nonspecialised), and to inform, in such a way as to attract the lay reader to the theme of architecture in general. It was for this reason that mass communication vehicles were chosen, and this was the principal idea that motivated the research.
