Contribution to the ecoeficiency evaluation on the pavement structure type choice.

Vinícius Maróstica Alberto 26 October 2018 (has links)
The pavement structure selection in Brazil nowadays is based considering the costs of construction and maintenance and the check against design standards, in other words, the choice is made by a technical-economic analysis. Brazilian Federal agencies do not provide standards for a quantitative assessment of energy consumption and atmospheric pollutants emission, using only the economic factor as a decision parameter on two or more pavement structures. Pavement construction and reconstruction of pavement structures consume a large volume of energy while obtaining, processing and applying materials during paving services. Considering the need to account aspects of sustainability in the choice between different types of pavement solution, it was sought to evaluate the emission of pollutants and energy and water consumption for the pavement construction phase. In order to do so, it was evaluated the use of different softwares capable of account the environmental question qualitatively, such as the GreenroadsTM and GreenPave, and quantitatively, such as GaBi, DuboCalc, VTTI / UC, ECORCE-M and PaLATE. PaLATE was chosen to be software used in this study being used in unitary analysis that allowed the elaboration of environmental fingerprint graph. Case studies are presented in three different methodologies. The last suggests the analysis of three solution matrices totaling more than 230 thousand cases that leads to obtaining three prediction equations of CO2 emissions as a function of traffic, subgrade support condition and structural number. At the end, it is suggested the insertion of the environmental part in the pavement choose analysis with the use of the proposed tools, the CO2 forecasting emission equations and the environmental fingerprint graph.

In this research we are going to analyze most popular user interface research methods and evaluate them in different aspects and determinate their use of cases. In addition, create experimental space for one of the user interface methods research. Analyze results and compare with similar method. Lastly, we will look for solutions to increase its accuracy. 15 user interface research methods were evaluated in analyze stage. From gathered knowledge about user interface research methods and evaluation parameters, experiment was performed. His purpose was to evaluate mouse tracking accuracy as user interface method and compare it with eye tracking method. After causes for its accuracy were found, they were removed and repeated the experiment. After conducting the experiment we found out that the main factor in mouse tracking accuracy is user's inability to move mouse actively. After asking experiment participants to sync their eyes movement with mouse movements we witnessed 47% - 77% accuracy comparing with eye tracking method.

Chu, Junfei 21 December 2018 (has links)
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) cross-efficiency evaluation has been widely applied for efficiencyevaluation and ranking of decision-making units (DMUs). However, two issues still need to be addressed: nonuniquenessof optimal weights attached to the inputs and outputs and non-Pareto optimality of the evaluationresults. This thesis proposes alternative methods to address these issues. We first point out that the crossefficiencytargets for the DMUs in the traditional secondary goal models are not always feasible. We then givea model which can always provide feasible cross-efficiency targets for all the DMUs. New benevolent andaggressive secondary goal models and a neutral model are proposed. A numerical example is further used tocompare the proposed models with the previous ones. Then, we present a DEA cross-efficiency evaluationapproach based on Pareto improvement. This approach contains two models and an algorithm. The models areused to estimate whether a given set of cross-efficiency scores is Pareto optimal and to improve the crossefficiencyscores if possible, respectively. The algorithm is used to generate a set of Pareto-optimal crossefficiencyscores for the DMUs. The proposed approach is finally applied for R&D project selection andcompared with the traditional approaches. Additionally, we give a cross-bargaining game DEA cross-efficiencyevaluation approach which addresses both the issues mentioned above. A cross-bargaining game model is proposedto simulate the bargaining between each pair of DMUs among the group to identify a unique set of weights to beused in each other’s cross-efficiency calculation. An algorithm is then developed to solve this model by solvinga series of linear programs. The approach is finally illustrated by applying it to green supplier selection. Finally,we propose a DEA cross-efficiency evaluation approach based on satisfaction degree. We first introduce theconcept of satisfaction degree of each DMU on the optimal weights selected by the other DMUs. Then, a maxminmodel is given to select the set of optimal weights for each DMU which maximizes all the DMUs’satisfaction degrees. Two algorithms are given to solve the model and to ensure the uniqueness of each DMU’soptimal weights, respectively. Finally, the proposed approach is used for a case study for technology selection.

[en] USE OF EYE-TRACKING DATA TO MODEL VISUAL BEHAVIOR IN EXPERT SYSTEMS / [pt] USO DE DADOS DE EYE-TRACKING PARA MODELAGEM DE COMPORTAMENTO VISUAL EM SISTEMAS ESPECIALISTAS

ABNER CARDOSO DA SILVA 22 September 2022 (has links)
[en] Eye-tracking makes it possible to track the position and direction of a person s gaze on some stimulus (e.g., images or videos). This technology allows us to identify events inherent to human vision, containing implicit information capable of revealing essential aspects of one s behavior during a given task. However, identifying these pieces of information is a complex task that requires a set of skills to interpret the eye-tracking data and relate it to domain-specific knowledge. In this context, one can use intelligent systems to couple the knowledge and experience of specialists with the responses from the eye-tracking device. Thus, the main objective of this work is to propose a methodology to create eye-tracking-based systems to improve the assessment of subjects during specific tasks, resulting in a model that can represent the specialist s knowledge over subjective aspects to automate this process. Therefore, the present work s use case is the evaluation of the relationship between visual behavior and efficiency in solving tests inspired by Raven s Progressive Matrices. Those tests are commonly used in psychology to measure intelligence and abstract reasoning through image visualization. We chose an approach based on fuzzy rules, as it allows us to represent knowledge in a more readable way to end-users. The model s rules were developed and validated alongside a specialist in psychology. The system was tested with data extracted from users and showed promising results. The findings and models obtained in this research may be used as a foundation for the development of more robust systems.

Scholtz, Reginald 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MBA (Graduate School of Business))--Stellenbosch University, 2008. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Globalisation, constant innovations and well-informed customers have made modern business environments dynamic and complex. Organisations, with their ever-changing business models, are striving to improve the quality of their products and services. Congruently, several management theories have evolved. Total Quality Management (TQM),Just in Time (JIT), Benchmarking, Lean Management, Balanced Scorecard and Six Sigma are some of the more well known. Each movement with its own life span, its share of popularity and level of acceptance has the same basic goal – improvement in quality by measuring performance. Recent years have seen an upsurge in the approaches and contributions to the field of performance measurement. Are these management theories just a flavour of the month or do they add value. The object of this study is to provide industry specific manufacturing business with a Manufacturing Performance Measurement Matrix Model, which can be used over time to measure improvement and serve as a basis for Knowledge Management. Hung,Chin Feng Unknown Date (has links)
Currently, the most use of forecasts is the point forecasting, whose efficiency evaluations are major in the least squares and error (minimum of sum of square errors). The common examples of the point forecasting are daily or monthly economy index or financial estimation. But along with the real demand of interval time series and the development of soft computation (soft computing), the interval computation and the forecasting are more and more important. This article provides some interval time series forecasting methods, and studies the efficiency evaluation. In chapter 3, we define sum errors of interval and correspond them to the real numbers, so as to compute with traditional way. Finally, we decide to use the weather forecasting which can affect the cash crop to be the empirical study analysis. Consider some forecasting methods under the non-parameter condition to be the efficiency evaluations and the accurate discussion. The weather forecasting is an example of interval forecasting. It will be more helpful of each research area if we establish the appropriate interval forecasting method and the efficiency evaluation.

This study aims to propose a model for the benchmarks identification combining DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) Game with a cluster analysis. The DEA Game seeks, in a non-cooperative game, not just the ideal efficiency for one Decision Making Unit (DMU), but also for all the others. Since the traditional approach of DEA Game only provides efficiency rates this study will also make a cluster analysis using hierarchical clustering technique, known Ward’s method, in order to obtain realistic benchmarks. These benchmarks will be obtained in the cluster analysis, where similar units will be grouped, by defining as benchmark the DMU more efficient in each cluster. Allowing in this way the inefficient units set tangible goals and objectives to improve their performance in the future. Finally, the proposed model is applied to electricity distribution industry and conclusions are presented from this case study

Evaluating Efficiency Quality Attribute in Open Source Web browsers

Tigulla, Anil Reddy, Kalidasu, Satya Srinivas January 2015 (has links)
Context: Now a day’s end users are using different types of computer applications like web browsers, data processing tools like MS office, notepad etc., to do their day-to-day works. In the real world scenario, the usage of Open Source Software (OSS) products by both industrial people and end users are gradually increasing. The success of any OSS products depends on its quality standards. ‘Efficiency’ is one of the key quality factor, which portray the standards of product and it is observed that this factor is given little importance during its development. Therefore our research context lies within evaluating the efficiency quality attribute in OSS web browsers. Objectives: As discussed earlier the context of this research lies in evaluating the efficiency of OSS web browsers, the initial objective was to identify the available efficiency measures from the current literature and observe which type of measures are suitable for web browsers. Then our next objective is to compute values for the identified efficiency measures by considering a set of predefined web browsers from all the categories. Later we proposed Efficiency Baseline Criteria (EBC) and based on this criterion and experiment results obtained, the efficiency of OSS web browsers had been evaluated. Therefore the main objective of conducting this research is to formulate EBC guidelines, which can be later used by OSS developers to test their web browsers and ensure that all the quality standards are strictly adhered during the development of OSS products. Methods: Initially Literature Review (LR) was conducted in order to identify all the related efficiency quality attributes and also observe the sub-attribute functionalities, that are useful while measuring efficiency values of web browsers. Methods and procedures which are discussed in this LR are used as input for identifying efficiency measures that are related to web browsers. Later an experiment was performed in order to calculate efficiency values for CSS & proprietary set of web browsers (i.e. Case A) and OSS web browsers (i.e. Case B) by using different tools and procedures. Authors themselves had calculated efficiency values for both Case A and Case B web browsers. Based on the results of Case A web browsers, EBC was proposed and finally an statistical analysis (i.e. Mann Whitney U-test) is performed in order to evaluate the hypothesis which was formulated in experiment section. Results: From the LR study, it is observed that efficiency quality attribute is classified into two main categories (i.e. Time Behavior and Resource Utilization). Further under the category of Time behavior a total of 3 attributes were identified (i.e. Response time, Throughput and Turnaround time). From the results of LR, we had also observed the measuring process of each attribute for different web browsers. Later an experiment was performed on two different sets of web browsers (i.e. Case A and Case B web browsers). Based on the LR results, only 3 efficiency attributes (i.e. response time, memory utilization and throughput) were identified which are more suitable to the case of web browsers. These 3 efficiency attributes are further classified into 10 sub-categories. Efficiency values are calculated to both Case A and B for these 10 identified scenarios. Later from Case A results EBC values are generated. Finally hypothesis testing was done by initially performing K-S test and results suggest choosing non-parametric test (i.e. Mann Whitney U-test). Later Mann Whitney U-test was performed for all the scenarios and the normalized Z scores are more than 1.96, further suggested rejecting null hypothesis for all the 10 scenarios. Also EBC values are compared with Case B results and these also suggest us that efficiency standard of OSS web browsers are not equivalent to Case A web browsers. Conclusions: Based on quantitative results, we conclude that efficiency standards of OSS web browsers are not equivalent, when compared to Case A web browsers and the efficiency standards are not adhered during development process. Hence OSS developers should focus on implementing efficiency standards during the development stages itself in order to increase the quality of the end products. The major contribution from the two researchers to this area of research is “Efficiency Baseline Criteria”. The proposed EBC values are useful for OSS developers to test the efficiency standards of their web browser and also help them to analyze their shortcomings. As a result appropriate preventive measures can be planned in advance. / +91 - 9491754620
