První britská žádost o vstup do EHS a její odraz v britském tisku (1961-1963): Příspěvek k dějinám Velké Británie ve 20. století / The First British Application to the EEC and it's Reflection in the British Press: Contribution to History of Great Britain in 20th Century

Nevrkla, Lukáš January 2011 (has links)
The First British Application to the EEC and it's Reflection in the British Press: Contribution to History of Great Britain in 20th Century: Summary In July 1961 applied British government lead by conservative Prime Minister Harold Macmillan for membership in the European Economic Community. The following two years of the Brussels negotiations aroused in British public opinion a growing amount of debates and discussions which dealt not only with the attitudes of the British to Europe and European integration but also with the development of Britain's policies, society and identity. Analysis of this public debates, which peaked at the time of de Gaulle's veto of the British application in January 1963, stands as the main topic in this diploma paper. First two chapters deal with response of the British public to the announcement of the application and examine the resulting debates in context of British internal development and home policies of Conservative, Labor and Liberal Party. The third bloc concentrates on the matter of the British membership in the Common Market with respect to the public perception of the development of the British defense policies and British military relations with France. Further on, the diploma paper focuses also on the main issues of the public debate on the European question in...

Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) leadership and governance in high risk organisations : exploring perspectives from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region

Alhashimi, Waddah S. M. A. G. January 2014 (has links)
This exploratory research is based on an objectivist epistemology with a positivist theoretical perspective that deployed concurrent mixed methods (MMR) design through a quantitative administered survey alongside an in-depth qualitative analysis through interviews exploring the perspectives of leaders on EHS leadership and governance. The research literature review focused on EHS leadership, corporate governance and strongly related topics. This MMR research employed both an expert panel-validated survey and a semi-structured interview protocol which explored 9 themes which emerged from the literature review including EHS/Safety Leadership; Risk Management; Influence and Accountability. Due to pragmatics relating to the number of leaders accessed (N=30) the statistical analysis is limited to descriptive type statistics. Almost all respondents supported the monitoring role of the Board of Directors (BoD), but disagreed that the BoD should play an active role in risk management. Comparisons are drawn between the Oil and Gas and non-Oil and Gas organizations with interesting results especially in matters relating to risk management. Structured thematic content analysis yields that Safety Culture; Leadership; Influence and Accountability were the three leading themes accounting for just over 50% of the responses analysed. Many sub-themes have also emerged and are discussed. A Model of EHS Leadership and Governance was created and is presented which positions themes and factors that influence monitoring of EHS performance and ultimately risk management. The research can be considered as a unique contribution as a relatively small body of currently published work in this subject area, both globally and more so in the GCC.

Politické strany ve Velké Británii a vstup Británie do EHS (1970-1975) / British Political Parties and the Entry of Great Britain into the EEC (1970-1975)

Krejčí, Pavel January 2014 (has links)
This thesis is focused on the British entry into the European Economic Community in 1973. The reasons why the United Kingdom was led to join the Community are researched in great details. Such reasons also influence the attitude and behaviour of the United Kingdom toward the European Union at present. This historical backdrop could account for British reluctance to join the Community in 1950' as well as the present attitude of British politicians toward the EU. The main British political parties, namely the Conservative Party and the Labour Party, stood on the same side as far as the basic goal was concerned - to maintain the British Empire after the 2WW. The collapse of the British Empire, the poor economy and the Cold War all forced British political parties to find a new position for the United Kingdom in the post-war world. Key words: Great Britain, the Conservative Party, the Labour Party, European Communities

Idiopathic environmental intolerance attributed to electromagnetic fields : physiological and psychological aspects

Johansson, Amanda January 2008 (has links)
This thesis aims to increase the knowledge on people with symptoms attributed to electromagnetic fields (EMF) by investigating the effects of EMF exposure and by additional description of the heterogeneous group of people reporting EMF-related symptoms. The effect of mobile phone (MP)-like radio frequency (RF) fields on symptoms, autonomic nervous system (ANS) parameters, short-term memory, and reaction time in persons with MP-related symptoms (MP participants) was investigated in a provocation study. A second provocation study investigated the effect of similar exposure on serum concentration of biomarkers in persons with atopic dermatitis. No effect of exposure was detected in either study. MP participants displayed changes in heart rate variability (HRV) during cognitive tests, but not during rest. This contrasts with earlier findings, participants with symptoms attributed to EMF sources in general (EHS participants) displayed an elevated sympathetic nervous system activity both during cognitive tests and during rest. Proposed differences between subgroups of persons with EMF-related symptoms with respect to symptoms, personality traits and stress were investigated in a questionnaire study. MP participants reported primarily symptoms from the head; EHS participants reported symptoms from many organ systems. Furthermore, EHS participants reported higher levels of anxiety, depression, stress, and exhaustion when compared with a reference group. MP participants reported higher levels of anxiety and exhaustion only. In a pilot study, 24-hour and short-term HRV were investigated in EHS participants, to examine whether the previously observed sympathovagal imbalance would still be present. There was a tendency toward increased parasympathetic activity compared with earlier recordings, and a reduction of symptoms. Twenty-four hour and short-term recordings were fairly similar for each participant; however, there were large between-subject differences. The results do not support the hypothesis of effects of MP-like RF exposure on symptoms, ANS activity, CFFT, cognitive function, or biomarkers. However, they do support the hypothesis that persons with different symptom attribution (MP and EHS) may differ also in ANS activity and psychological aspects.

Säkerhetsutmaningar med metadatahantering : Utmaningar med insamlingen av personlig metadata via e-handelssystem / Security challenges with metadata management : Challenges with collection of personal metadata via e-commerce

Younan Slewa, Ninos January 2017 (has links)
The development and progress of the e-commerce system has dominated electronic trade in recent years. Problems that often arise are how confident is the handling of consumer data, specifically regarding the personal metadata that the user generates when shopping through the net. Many companies and organizations are investing a great deal in expanding their consumer services using market strategy Business-to-Consumer (B2C), but most collecting data have little attention to consistent documents that occur with the management of personal privacy, collection of personal metadata and the legal protection of this type of data. This paper addresses challenges with how personal metadata is handled and how it can be implemented to make the use less problematic. Survey in this paper found that the challenge lies mostly in the coordination between technology and law. IT experts must specify how metadata should be collected, how it should be stored and what should it be used for, while legal experts must qualify if metadata is to be treated as traditional data or whether it will have a specific legal system. Other findings such as the collection, storage and usage of metadata were also featured in this work.

Rozvojová politika EHS (60.- 70- léta) ve vztahu ke státům třetího světa (se zaměřením na Afriku) / EEC's development policy to the third world countries (focused on Africa) from 1960 to 1979

Brázdilová, Monika January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to provide a comprehensive view at the development cooperation of the European Economic Community in the 60's and 70's years of the 20th century in relation to the countries of the Third World with a focus on African developing countries. It also deals with the analysis of the very concept of development, development cooperation and development policy. The thesis is conceived from the general to the particular, where are first discussed the main concepts, the grouping and contracts supplemented with more detailed analysis. At first is briefly described the establishment of the EEC and the characteristic of grouping ACP. Then comes the analysis of the actual development cooperation and measures with which was the aid realized. Another two sections are devoted to comprehensive contractual framework of cooperation, which is in this period defined by part IV. Treaty of Rome and the Implementing agreement, two conventions of Yaoundé and the First Lomé convention. In the Lomé Convencion, there were a lot of significant changes made in terms of equality between the EEC and the ACP countries, as the concept of association was changed to the principle of partnership during the time. The development aid had to be managed somehow as well, so in next chapter is the topic of the...

Environmental Health and Safety data integration using Geographical Information Systems

George, David Paul January 2008 (has links)
Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) departments in many organizations are faced with two interrelated problems which limit their ability to make accurate decisions based on quality data. First, many EHS departments follow a reactive business management model and need to work towards a proactive continuous improvement model to better manage EHS. The second is a lack of data integration and interoperability between the numerous different EHS data sources and systems. EHS departments are challenged with managing large quantities of data generated through tracking and monitoring programs to continuously improve EHS performance. EHS data can be in many forms paper, digital files, spreadsheets, images, relational databases and proprietary software applications. EHS data have strong spatial relationships, which makes the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) a very cost effective and feasible solution for integrating and managing EHS data. This thesis will outline how GIS brings to EHS the advantages of traditional IT methods with the added benefit of spatial analytical operations such as map overlay, relationships and querying, and informative visual presentation through maps, floor plans, and imagery through the implementation of a GIS database for EHS called GeoSpatial Environmental Health and Safety (GEO-EHS).
