Previous issue date: 2018-08-23 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / In this research I investigate the phenomena traditional class, whose backbone is the coursebook, and complex class, based on the Complex Educational Design (CED), both from the students’ perspective. The phenomena emerge from experiences in English language classes for adults, at a language institute. The English proficiency level in Brazil is not satisfactory when compared to other countries and, associated to that, the contemporary world demands didactic alternatives which can be more inclusive, being able to embrace the interwoven network knowledge. Thus, I propose a reflection upon the contrasts between a traditional and a complex class, based on the essence arising from the description and interpretation processes of such classes. For this purpose, the methodological basis is the complex hermeneutic-phenomenological approach (FREIRE, 2010, 2012, 2017), which, for being a qualitative approach, enables the articulation of objectivity and subjectivity during the interpretation process, fostering the revelation of the essence of the human experiences’ phenomena studied. As theoretical support, I chose the complexity epistemology (MORIN, 1999, 2001, 2005, 2013, 2015) due to its articulation to the methodological approach used, which demonstrates its inter/transdisciplinarity from a teaching-learning point of view, according to Fazenda (2006, 2012) and Leffa (2006). To design the traditional classes, I used coursebooks by an international publisher and for its theoretical basis I found support in the studies of Paiva (2009), who brings a historical overview of the English language coursebook in Brazil, and Souza (1997-1998), who considers that a pedagogical weapon. To the complex classes, I chose a design based on the Complex Educational Design (FREIRE, 2013) proposing a course design based on complexity. Average forty-five-minute classes were taught to two different groups; each one had a traditional and a complex class and the teacher required the seven students to write a text describing the class they had just participated in. Fourteen texts were obtained, and they were interpreted based on the complex hermeneutic-phenomenological approach. From the texts describing the traditional classes, the following themes emerged: Grammar, Learning, Information, Transmission, Repetition and Dynamism. From the complex classes, the themes that emerged were Reflection, Discussion, Learning, Expression and Sharing. The contrasts between the themes of the two kinds of classes suggest that a complex design, for embracing traditional aspects, can be more inclusive, besides promoting reflections upon contemporary issues / Neste estudo, investigo os fenômenos aula tradicional, cuja espinha-dorsal é o livro didático, e aula complexa, baseada no design educacional complexo (DEC), ambos na perspectiva dos alunos.

Previous issue date: 2014-12-19 / This paper analyzes the educational concept of a public policy of the Basic Education Board (DEB) of Higher Education Personnel Training Coordination (CAPES), the Institutional Scholarship Program Introduction to Teaching (Pibid), in the context of pragmatism. The problem of the investigation is worded as follows: educational concept that is present in the Institutional Scholarship Program Introduction to Teaching (Pibid) in consideration of pragmatism? Capes, from 2009, went on to create educational policies for the improvement of basic education, including Pibid. The philosophical perspective, interests investigate the assumptions of this educational concept in the plan, through official documents and, as a hypothesis, investigate whether the pragmatic education approach is present, or the need to prepare teachers for teaching, from the point of view of the organization of the curriculum, the practical nature of teacher education. It is not intended to discuss the issue of teacher training, as this work is allocated in line for Public Policy Research in Education: the purpose of, first, discuss and understand the educational concept present in Pibid by studying, therefore, its implementation process, from official data. The method relates to the literature review, with emphasis on the analysis of documents, comprising: reports, laws, edicts, decrees and documents of the Basic Education Board and CAPES, which documents are constituted as expedients to be analyzed. From the point of view of substance, it seeks to support and clarify the educational pragmatic conception of John Dewey and through this reference, program design analysis is made. As result achieved, we find that the educational concept present in the Institutional Program Initiation Scholarships to Teaching presents pragmatism of evidence developed by John Dewey, approved in Brazil by the writings of AnisioTeixeira. Narrativas transmidiáticas: aprendizagem, comunicação e estratégia de conteúdo em iniciativas multi-plataforma / Transmedia narratives: learning, communication and content strategists in multi-platform initiativesValle, Andre Alves de Lima do 26 November 2013 (has links)
The new dynamics empowered by web 2.0 reframes learning as an activity that permeates different areas of knowledge. Challenges and prospects of teaching the Doppler Effects at grades 12 / Challenges and prospects of teaching the Doppler effect in grade twelveMupezeni, Sure 02 1900 (has links)
This study focuses on challenges and prospects of the teaching of the Doppler Effect to grade 12 learners. The challenges of teaching the Doppler Effect were established and these findings influenced the development of activities. These activities were tested, refined and re-tested in an iterative cycle and finally provided prospects on teaching the Doppler Effect. Educational Design Research (EDR) was used to bridge theory and practice in education.
This study was done in the Vhembe district in the Limpopo province. In the first cycle, questionnaires and interviews with 32 teachers and a subject advisor were used to establish the baseline with regards to the challenges of teaching the Doppler Effect. After the analysis of the data which forms the first cycle of EDR, the content and methodological problems faced by teachers when teaching the Doppler Effect were revealed.
In the second cycle of the EDR, learning activities were developed that was informed by the analysis and tried out in 2 schools by learners and their teachers. Completed activity sheets were marked and the results were used to determine if there were a correlation between the activity sheets and the written test. Problems were documented and changes to the activities were again made and tried out in 10 schools by 216 learners with the help of 10 teachers. The data collected from the learners` work sheets were analysed. Pearson`s product moment correlation has shown that there is a statistically significant relationship (r = 0.65; p < 0.01) that exists between these design-research activities and solving of problems on the Doppler Effect.
An instructional manual was developed comprising of the final activities. This was distributed amongst the district officials and teachers to assist them in the teaching of the Doppler Effect in the Vhembe district. / Physics / M.Sc. (Mathematics, Science and Technology Education)

Att begripliggöra det förflutna : En studie av hur åtta historielärare i samtal och planering föreställer sig historieundervisning inriktad mot att motverka fragmentering / Making sense of the past : A study of how eight history teachers in dialogue and planning imagine history teaching in order to prevent fragmentationNordkvist, Rickard January 2017 (has links)
Fragmentation refers to the difficulties that students face when attempting to utilise substantive knowledge to make a useable big picture of the past. What possibilities are there to prevent fragmentation, within the framework of regular history teaching in school? In this thesis I tackle this question with interest in teaching methods proposed by history teachers. The research project is designed with the intention to provide the participating teachers with “reasonably good conditions” to be able to form an opinion about the problem of fragmentation. In the research project the participating teachers take part of litterature from the research field of history teaching, and processing the problem of fragmentation through discussion in focus groups and through planning of a history course. In this study I investigate how eight history teachers, given “reasonably good conditions”, imagine feasible teaching in order to prevent fragmentation within the frames of a History 1a1 course. Three research objects are being investigated. What are the teachers´ views regarding: 1) efficient teaching to prevent fragmentation? 2) the framework of teaching? 3) a History course that is including an action plan in order to prevent fragmentation? The study shows that the teachers experience limited possibilities to conduct efficient teaching to prevent fragmentation within the frames of a History 1a1-course. The teachers still, regardless of these limitations, find it possible to conduct strategically focused teaching to prevent fragmentation. The teaching strategies presented by the teachers can be more or less significant and the teachers are not necessarily prepared to allot time and resources to these strategies. Feasible teaching in order to prevent fragmentation is not necessarily associated with strategically aimed teaching.

Parental involvement in learning at rural multi-grade schools in South Africa: a school, community and family partnership programmeVenter, Nicolaas van Loggenberg January 2013 (has links)
Thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Education in the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology
2013 / Parental involvement in rural multigrade schools in South Africa is poor. This is mainly due to a lack of support for and insufficient knowledge regarding the development of a programme that would increase parental involvement at rural multigrade schools in South Africa. The context of multigrade education in South Africa reflects the reality of a lack of parental involvement. South African rural multigrade education is beset by a variety of internal and external challenges which have a detrimental effect on effective parental involvement.
However, in the rural multigrade school context, parents have untapped potential that needs to be identified and acted upon in order to empower parents; this could provide the rural marginalised children with meaningful access to quality education. Research has proved that parental involvement has a positive effect on the quality of education. According to research, the six types of parental involvement are parenting, communicating, volunteering, learning at home, decision-making and collaborating with the community. In this study the focus was on involving parents in learning and allowing them to become active partners in education.
To increase parental involvement in learning at rural multigrade schools in South Africa, an intervention was needed. This intervention came in the form of a school, community and family partnership programme. The core elements of a school, community and family partnership programme (SCAF partnership programme) were the creation of partnerships and communication channels between the school, community and family, as well as the utilisation of existing community resources. These core elements had a specific focus on learning. This study used Bourdieu's (1986) theory on capital and Epstein's (1995) theory of overlapping spheres of influence. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of an effective school, community and family partnership programme that would increase parental involvement in learning at rural multigrade schools in South Africa.
Design-based research was employed in order to design, develop and test the proposed programme. Research was conducted in two phases. During the preliminary phase, a needs and content analysis, review of literature, and the development of a conceptual or theoretical framework for the study were conducted. This was followed by a prototyping phase which is an iterative design phase consisting of iterations, each being a micro-cycle of research with formative evaluation as the most important research activity, and which is aimed at improving and refining the intervention. Summative evaluation was conducted during the prototype phase in order to determine whether the solution or intervention met the pre-determined specifications.
Data gathered during this study indicated:
1. The SCAF partnership programme can increase parental involvement in learning at rural multigrade schools if certain product and process characteristics are active.
2. The SCAF partnership programme allows utilising school, home and community capital through interaction and collaboration to increase parental involvement in learning.
3. A SCAF partnership programme should focus on learning through creating partnerships and opportunities for communication, and utilising community resources.
4. A SCAF partnership programme should be employed through a specific process.
5. Design research offers an appropriate and powerful approach to design, develop and implement a SCAF partnership programme that increases parental involvement in learning at rural multigrade schools.

Previous issue date: 2018-08-24 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This is a qualitative research in the Applied Linguistics field which aims at describing and interpreting the phenomenon experiencing a complex online workshop, developed based on the complex educational design (FREIRE, 2013), as an extension to the English language classroom, from a students’ perspective. It also investigates how the use of the complex educational design as a guide to develop online English language teaching-learning activities can contribute to maintaining the participation of students, who usually show an interest in using digital technology tools to extend their classroom learning, but who often discontinue their use. Besides the complex educational design, this study is also theoretically grounded on complexity (MORIN, 2003, 2005, 2015a, 2015b, 2015c), which are the basis for the development of complex online workshops that reflect students’ reality, interests, needs, and expectations. The research is methodologically grounded on the complex hermeneutic-phenomenological approach (FREIRE, 2010, 2012, 2017), which articulates with the theoretical foundation used. The eight research participants were students from different face-to-face classrooms from the English language course of an educational institution in the city of São Paulo. Their English language proficiency level ranged from beginning of B1 to B1+ of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The focal workshop was two weeks in length and was held asynchronously on the Google Classroom virtual environment. Three research instruments were used by students to textually record their perceptions of the phenomenon: a first week account, a final questionnaire, and a non-participation account. The texts generated by students’ responses to the instruments were interpreted following the complex hermeneutic-phenomenological approach procedures, which revealed the following themes: learning, development, time, difference, interaction, self-reflection, protagonism, and connection.
