“Meu corpo, minhas regras”?

Pereira, Jéssica Oliveira 12 June 2018 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Jéssica Oliveira Pereira.pdf: 1581561 bytes, checksum: d63ddbb079b507f6d3dc66ddc75cb4ad (MD5) Previous issue date: 2018-06-12 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This dissertation analyzes which discourses involve the body in Brazilian feminist pages on Facebook and how the modes of presence (or absence) of these bodies signify feminisms in Brazil. They are public pages and with massive participation and sharing, according to the dynamics of the digital network researched. As criterion, we choosed those that are admittedly feminist, in other words, that are interlocutors of the movement in the digital network; and those that are active, with recurring and current posts. The thematic of the body is highlighted because we consider that the discourses derived from it are determinant for the exercise of feminism - they are central in the claims of a movement that has in the body its maximum representation. This issue makes it possible to analyze the meanings deriving from it and the demands of the movement: which bodies are considered legitimate in the feminist struggle, under which stereotypes they operate and which norms they ask. This is, what are the discursive constructions of the treated bodies, considering that in feminist theory the body has been apprehended as a source of knowledge and resistance, as well as an object of subjectivity. For the research, we use Foucault's (1988, 2005, 2008, 2017) studies to identify the prevailing discourses on the pages, and the statements that operate in those posts, as well as the powers that are at stake. Not less important, we use feminist bibliographies or inspired by the movement to provide a critical bias to the gender condition, such as: Butler (2015), Beauvoir (2008), Margaret Rago (1998, 2007/2008, 2013, 2014), Margaret A McLaren (2016), Coletivo Não Me Kahlo (2016), Djamila Ribeiro (2017), Angela Davis (2016), Virginie Despentes (2016), Connell (2016), among others. The results point to a greater understanding: of the power dynamics that act on the question of the feminist woman's body; the treatment of the gender issue in feminism in Brazil; and the role of digital networks in the development of feminist discourse / Esta dissertação analisa quais são os discursos que envolvem o corpo em páginas brasileiras feministas no Facebook e como os modos de presença (ou ausência) dos corpos significam os feminismos no Brasil.

Therefore, we aim: investigate the constructed senses and ways of presence of scientific communication destinators in the selected digital environment; observe and question the scientific communication terminology; identify enunciation marks that indicate doings shaped by metadestinator YouTube; discuss what leads a certain statement to be credible; debate the scientific communication as an approximation between scientific field and common sense. lt is recognized the relevance of scientific field in contemporary society and the role of scientific communication in dissemination of complex science. Hypotheses to be tested are: YouTube enables multiplicate audiovisual productions about scientific knowledge; scientific communication channels make the taste for science an object of value in the approximation between scientific knowledge and common sense; interactions promoted in this platform provide feedback on the part of the destinee, revealing their simulacra. The object of study consists in channels with scientific content, whose posting is regular, recent and original. A mapping is accomplished of the productions by search and data survey, resulting in an overview of current brazilian productions whose division was made in four categories relating degree of audiovisual production and formal specialization in science. They are: Beginner, Professional Producer, Certificated Specialist and lnitiated. The corpus channels, chosen respectively from each category, are: Alimente o Cerebro, Manual do Mundo, Canal do Pirula and Nerdologia. The theoretical current of French semiotics of Algirdas J. Greimas and his followers, based on the generative course of meaning, will ground the analysis of enunciation in each syncretic text, as well as the meaning and interaction regimes according to Eric Landowski. Regarding the science notion, the main authors are Thomas Kuhn and Edgar Morin and, to discuss scientific communication definition, Wilson Bueno, Carlos Vogt and Bruce Lewestein. ln meaning and interaction regimes, it is possible to see how destinators use strategic narratives to impel the construction of meaning along the destinee in order to accentuate the taste for science as an object of value / A seguinte pesquisa busca compreender quais as diferentes estrategias enunciativas e os regimes de sentido e de interagao dos canais brasileiros de divulgagao cientffica em vfdeos online - especificamente na plataforma YouTube - como modo de cultivo do gosto pela ciencia. Experimental Studies of Android APP Development for Smart Chess Board System

Gopu, Srujan 01 August 2013 (has links)
Playing chess on a smart phone has gained popularity in the last few years, offering the convenience of correspondence play, automatic recording of a game, etc. Although a good number of players love playing chess on a tablet/smart phone, it doesn't come close to the experience of playing over the traditional board. The feel and pleasure are more real when playing face down with the opponent sitting across each other rather than playing in mobile devices. This is especially true during chess tournaments. It would be ideal to enhance the experience of playing chess on board with the features of chess playing on smart phones. Based on the design of a roll able smart chess board, an android app has been implemented to interact with the board. It reads signals from the smart chess board and maps the movements of the chess pieces to the phone. The recorded play would be used as input for game analysis. The design and implementation of a server for playing and reviewing a game online have also been studied in this thesis.

Domin, Annika 15 October 2015 (has links) (PDF)

New-media social networks, issue networks, and policy communities : getting and using power

Martin, Terrance F. 16 September 2010 (has links)
This PAR project used applied communications to get and use power to influence public policy. Informed by social and policy network theories, the method used Facebook as an organizing tool to create and position a recreation issue network in tension with an environmental policy community, exploring the concepts of layering, conversion, exhaustion, policy image, and venue change in an effort to influence policy. The introduction of a new-media social network as a competing influence in a policy network was an innovation, and demonstrated that the “strength of weak ties” may have implications for policy-making. The study concluded that a Facebook group was an efficient and effective organizing tool, capable of organizing an issue network and disrupting the status quo; however, the tightly coupled nature of a policy community makes it highly resilient to outside influence and an issue network may not gain sufficient influence to change policy. Keywords: Facebook, new-media social network, policy community, issue network, policy image, venue manipulation, layering, conversion, exhaustion

The space network connections [cyberspace] have been constituted as new production space morphologies for homosexuals. The technoculture’s virtual machines present themselves as social spaces of projection, memory and new developments. Emerged in a trans-discursive network connections, homosexuals can assume ownership of virtual machines to the ongoing reconstruction of its virtuality, understood as a mobile incorporeal flow that is transmuted in connection with each other. The social network Facebook is configured as a network of connections equipped by axes and directions, allowing individuals movements of deterritorial and intensive meetings, under a spatial mosaic hybrid, circumscribed in a multitude of territories and ciber-regions spread across the Global Village Machinic. The deterritorialized open cyberspace, solidifies as a space recorded by a heterogeneity of spatial elements, allowing the passage of flows and practices, and provide new experiences, which can move with the hetero-capitalism power centers. The analysis is centered on the materialistic production os [cyber]space, which allowed the outline of contemporary social production, combined with discursive production, through what is stated and registered on Facebook. A symbiosis that allowed me machining of existential production scenario in which these homosexuals are territorialized. The collection of discursive practices occurred from a virtual ethnography in the most closed group of homosexuals in Brazil, a nomadic territory of bodies and utterances that connects all to a central point: the uniqueness of homosexual desire. A creation of space for new experiences and affectivity, as well as a virtual closet. In this group, there are forces of coalescence: transgression forces and forces that capture the heterocapitalismo standard, constituting as an inductor territory of processes and connections that may even break with the reactionary encodings of global simulations of the Patriarchal-Heteroapitalist Empire. Through the analysis of the discursive production of homosexuals on Facebook, notes that homosexual experiences of today is based on a constant exchange between real and virtual, online and offline, corpus and machines under a profusion of new experiences and new performativities, passing by a social production of connections fight and claims and new groupings by affection.

Conditional resource management for mobile devices

Pérez, Martín 28 August 2014 (has links)
Mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, are becoming more popular everyday. This new devices class is constantly evolving on what concerns computing capabilities, allowing users to switch from larger computers to smaller mobile devices in several cases. Everyday new apps for these devices are developed and published in software repositories, enabling users to quickly install and benefit from new software. In order to deal with the multiple resource requests from different applications running in parallel, the operating system’s resource management design plays a key role. Most resource managers available to mobile phones are designed to maximize the performance of the system as a whole, not always taking into account the characteristics of the processes requiring resources in the application layer. This type of strategy can lead to cases where some applications experience longer latencies than desired while accessing resources, compromising the Quality of Service or system security. This work aims to offer a new resource management model for mobile devices, allowing the creation of rules that can prioritize the resource allocation for specific applications according to their needs. Also it implemented a proof of concept prototype version of this model, using the Android platform, confirming its viability.

You don't know me but can I be your friend? Accepting strangers as friends in Facebook.

Leow, Serena 12 1900 (has links)
Users in social networking sites, such as Facebook, are increasingly receiving friend requests from strangers and accepting strangers as friends. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the Big Five personality traits and strangers' gender in affecting Facebook users' decisions to accept the stranger's friend request by adopting a 2 (gender of the stranger: male vs. female) x 5 (stranger's personality: Neuroticism vs. Extraversion vs. Openness vs. Conscientiousness vs. Agreeableness) factorial design. Results revealed that participants were more likely to accept the stranger's friend request when the participant's and stranger's personalities matched. This effect was more pronounced when the stranger was a female. Participants accepted female stranger's friend request due to the inflated perception of stereotypical female characteristics, which supported the hyperpersonal effect. Majority of the participants accepted the stranger's friend request based on textual cues that were displayed in the friend request message, which supported social information processing theory, suggesting that impression formation of the stranger was not constrained to the lack of nonverbal cues setting.
