Diálogo e interações face a face na comunicação interna: um estudo da oralidade nas organizações / Dialogue and face-to-face interactions on internal communication: a study of oral speech in organizations.Marta Terezinha Motta Campos Martins 14 December 2012 (has links)
New demands on publics require closer relationships with managers, directors and formal representatives of organizations to their connection between themselves and the communities participating in their networking. The research conducted in this study raised indications as to how oral speech is used in the communication with employees and reveals the conducts verified among administrators who adopt oral speech as relational strategy when dealing with their teams. It aims to identify and evaluate the utilization of oral speech postulates in order to understand the degree to which they can be strategically considered when it comes to achieving results and speeding communication processes with the internal public. Data were gathered in the internal communication environment of a public enterprise, the Embrapa Soja, in its unit located in Londrina-PR, one of the 47 research units of the state owned Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária - Embrapa. Miscellaneous procedures were used in the research orientation, with data collection and analysis being treated through phenomenological principles, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Four thematic axes were established within the selected method: internal communication, oral communication, use of dialogue, and face-to-face communication. Oral speech showed prominent in the work practices of the interviewees, it is absorbed in all internal communication actions and fosters integration among employees and administration. Through the strong evidence of its participation in group results and its positive impact on the relationship with external publics, the firm presence of this component in the organizational culture can be stated as well as the high contribution it can provide as element of strategic management.

Cortesia e marcadores discursivos: contrastes entre discursos orais chilenos e espanhóis e as percepções de brasileiros / Politeness and discourse markers: contrasts between the chilean and spanish oral discourses and perceptions of braziliansAdriana Marcelle de Andrade 04 August 2010 (has links)
This study shows how strategies of politeness occurring when discourse markers are used in oral interventions of teenagers from the two capital cities of Madrid and Santiago de Chile contained in the Corpus de Lenguaje Adolescente (COLA) are organized. Considering the socio-cultural diversity (Bravo, 2004) and discourse markers indicate in which direction we should look for the relevance of utterances (Escandell-Vidal, 1998), this research also analyzes if Brazilian teenagers, students of Spanish language in São Paulo region, have a proper interpretation regarding the presence or the absence of politeness when they are exposed to the conversations of the material analyzed. As a result, the differences between samples of Spanish language varieties from Santiago and from Madrid regarding the use of the particles pues, ya and claro were described. Such differences were seen to be related to the context of enunciation and the discursive, semantic, and pragmatic processing of the markers, which confirms that the politeness shows particularities and has a relative value according to the verbal interaction, cultural traits, and the type of social relationship between interlocutors. By hearing some of the dialogs extracted from the corpus and guided by a questionnaire, most Brazilian students had wrong interpretations of discursive formations. Such constructions of meaning were seen to be related to the lack of knowledge of the markers form or usage, which prevented the markers to guide the interpretation process, and the disregard of intercultural differences and models of politeness in various verbal interactions.

The face plays an important role in communication and expression of emotions. Face characterizes the first impression of each person; thus, its appearance and shape became the target of several studies. An attractive face is capable of capturing more easily not only the attention of the beholder, as well as his/her empathy. In this vein, this study aims to develop a methodology for handling and processing of images of faces in order to increase the attractiveness of these faces. It was addressed two aspects of modification of the face: the geometric and texture (considering only the skin of the face). In this work, a large database of face images was built. All these faces were marked with feature points and from them it was taken measures considered interesting to analyze the dimensions and proportions of the faces. Besides that, they were also evaluated according to their degree of attraction by a group of volunteers. This information was used in the enhancement of the face geometry, using machine learning algorithms. At this stage new measures were generated for the input face which is considered in the beautification process. Using the technique of warping, the input face image is warped to fit the new measures found by the algorithms. The resulting image from this process serves as the input image to the process of texture modification. At this stage it is generated a new image with the color of pixels in the region of skin of the face changed. The main contribution of this work is to join the process of face geometry modification with the process of face skin texture modification. The result of this union generates image faces which have greater enhancement of attractiveness than if the processes were used separately. This gain was confirmed by post-evaluation tests conducted with volunteers that analyzed the final results / Mestrado / Engenharia de Computação / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica

Intertextuality as a politeness strategy : A qualitative study of the use and function of intertextuality in the television series SuitsBrandström, Felicia January 2014 (has links)
This paper investigates the use and function of intertextuality in the television series Suits, and examines the interplay between intertextuality and politeness. Intertextuality allows a text to incorporate other texts and to draw upon connotations that belong to those texts. Politeness theory offers a tool to analyse the pragmatic use of language in social interaction. Analysing occurrences of intertextuality from the first episode of the television series, the paper explores in what ways the fictional characters use intertextuality and for what purposes. It explores if, and how, intertextuality can be used as a politeness strategy. Findings suggest that intertextuality is used for three main purposes, and functions as characterisation and as a means to establish and/or maintain social relations. Detailed analyses of instances of intertextuality propose that intertextuality can be used as a politeness theory, but only in certain ways. The paper discusses these findings and offers a possible explanation for why intertextuality is only used in this restricted way.

This bachelor thesis examines the potential risks of face to face communication that may occur during the use of modern technology and social media. The aim is to find out what kind of impact may occur when people over consume modern technology and various types of social media (e.g. Facebook, twitter, Instagram and Myspace). The study will then form a base for a digital game witch will focus on finding a way technology can improve communication face to face. The game will introduce the players to a problem that only can be solved by working and communicate with each other.

A feature based face tracker using extended Kalman filteringIngemars, Nils January 2007 (has links)
A face tracker is exactly what it sounds like. It tracks a face in a video sequence. Depending on the complexity of the tracker, it could track the face as a rigid object or as a complete deformable face model with face expressions. This report is based on the work of a real time feature based face tracker. Feature based means that you track certain features in the face, like points with special characteristics. It might be a mouth or eye corner, but theoretically it could be any point. For this tracker, the latter is of interest. Its task is to extract global parameters, i.e. rotation and translation, as well as dynamic facial parameters (expressions) for each frame. It tracks feature points using motion between frames and a textured face model (Candide). It then uses an extended Kalman filter to estimate the parameters from the tracked feature points.

Exploring Barriers to Knowledge Sharing : A Case Study of a Virtual Community of Practice in a Swedish Multinational CorporationYip, Kitty January 2011 (has links)
This thesis reports on the results of a quantitative study of various barriers to knowledge sharing in a virtual community of practice within Sigma Kudos, a Swedish multinational organization. The study was undertaken to investigate the under-utilization of a virtual "teamroom". Members' views showed that the biggest barrier involved the way in which people chose to share their knowledge; the respondents preferred sharing knowledge in their existing face-to-face networks. Face-to-face sharing mainly seemed to occur between individuals who had a common ground and shared experiences, and between individuals who were in convenient proximity to each other. Time constraints in combination with perceived lack of intranet site structure implied a redundancy of the teamroom as yet another internal site. Another prominent set of barriers that emerged from the findings was related to aspects of uncertainty and unfamiliarity with the teamroom. Additionally, survey comments revealed the use of teamroom features to be a barrier. To enable co-evolved knowledge structures to occur via the community, it is necessary for management to understand face-to-face sharing behavior in terms of implicit and tacit knowledge. It is vital to change the perception of teamroom sharing as an extra task requiring more time. Moreover, the teamroom needs to be distinguished in context of the greater intranet structure, as well as when it comes to the different sections of the community itself. To foster knowledge sharing in the teamroom, it is also important to define and communicate the strategic meaning of it.

IrRelevant and Chaotic or Indeed Relatively Cooperative? : A Gricean comparison of chatroom and face-to-face interactionHals, Elisabeth January 2006 (has links)
Chatroom conversations often elicit an initial impression of chaos. This is probably chiefly due to disrupted adjacency sequences, but also a result of the language being rich in non-standard linguistic forms and grammar. This study explores chatroom conversations with reference to Grice’s (1975) cooperative principle and the maxims that accompany it, and compares them to real life conversations. The aim is to see whether they differ from real life conversations to the extent expected, and whether these differences give rise to any compensational strategies to ensure successful communication. The results reveal a slightly higher amount of maxim undermining in the chat room than in the real life conversations, but not as high as expected. Accordingly, few compensational strategies need be adopted. It is suggested that the main explanation for these findings is that chatroom users have adapted their conversation patterns to the medium.

Previous issue date: 2015-03-25 / The growing discussion about what are the forms of communication that will dominate the organizational structures in modern companies is gaining many academic contributions, but they seem to be entering a conflict as its organizational function. Many authors argue that virtual communications will replace the face-to-face communication with all-sufficiency. Another line of research states that virtual communication is used only for simple contacts, as marking a meeting, but the serious business decisions will only be taken face-to-face. Based on this assumption was investigated three schools in the ABC Paulista to know how was working internal communication of these schools and how its notification is performed. The main result of this research, it was identified that friendship is a phenomenon that drives the virtual contacts and that, even in environments where employees are not always present, face-to-face communication is still used as the primary means of notification.

Automatizované měření teploty v boji proti COVID / Automated measurements of body temperature against COVID-19Roman, Matej January 2021 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the development of an open source software capable of automatic face detection in an image captured by a thermal camera, followed by a temperature measuring. This software is supposed to aid in the COVID-19 pandemics. The developed software is independent of used thermal camera. In this thesis, I am using TIM400 thermal camera. The implementation of the face detection was achieved by an OpenCV module. The methods tested were Template Matching, Eigen Faces, and Cascade Classifier. The last-mentioned had the best results, hence was used in the final version of the software. Cascade Classifier is looking for the eyes and their surrounding area in the image, allowing the software to subsequently measure the temperature on the surface of one's forehead. One can therefore be wearing a face mask or a respirator safely. The temperature measuring works in real time and the software is able to capture several people at once. It then keeps a record of the temperature of each measured individual as well as the time of the measurement. The software as a whole is a part of an installation file compatible with the Windows operating system. The functionality of this software was tested – the video recordings are included in this thesis.
