Ali Mohamed Mahmood January 2018 (has links)
Higher education domain has a direct impact on individuals and society in general and particularly regarding the socio-economic status and economic growth of any individual or a country. Despite recent changes in job market orientation for hiring employees without higher education degrees, higher education sector is required globally to provide training, knowledge and skill to achieve the globally stated goal of attaining economic growth and sustainable human development. This research focuses on the importance of higher education to primary beneficiaries (student, parents, and higher education institutions personals), explores defined goal of higher education, and assess the effect of external environmental factors that influence higher education sector sampling Bahrain public higher education in a single case study. Through an exploratory qualitative research, the researcher used a case study approach with semi-structured interviews to assess different beneficiaries' views of the importance of higher education to bridge the gap between different perspectives on shaping the goal of higher education. An abductive approach was followed to conduct this research as this topic requires both observing the research topic as well as qualifying an established theory. This approach allowed the researcher to gain new insights to understand the relationship between the environmental factors and higher education goal. The research assesses the factors influencing higher education to be utilised as moderator to develop a conceptual framework based on Means-end theory of decision-making combined with the dynamics of OODA Loop (Observe, Orient, Decide, and Act) model of decision-making. Key findings of the pilot study conducted in one of Bahrain's public higher education institutions (HEIs) and another case study on one of the leading higher education institutions in Bahrain revealed a gap between higher education beneficiaries' perspectives on higher education and demonstrated the importance of the revision of the overall structure and implementation of policies concerning higher education sector in Bahrain. Empirical findings highlighted some main areas where there is a huge gap between what is planned and implemented. Through comparing results of previous studies, the researcher concluded that each environment has its own effect on higher education goal definition which in turn affect the attainment of higher education benefits and the definition of its attributes.

The impact of ECFA on steel industry in Taiwan

Huang, Yi-Ju 16 January 2012 (has links)
The development of Taiwanese steel industry has entered into decline stage. The domestic steel consumption is small plus being lack of steel strong demand industries. The factors mentioned above make Taiwanese steel industry shortage of supply in the upstream crude steel industry, while over-supply in rolled steel market. It would be the great chance to revitalize the steel industry to shift the oversupply capacities to the market that needs this product. Globalization and regional integration are two issues and trends in world¡¦s economic and trading perspective. The purpose of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is to liberate the trade, service and investment among the member countries. The spirit of FTA is consistency with that of WTO. Both are the vehicle of promoting trade liberation among global countries. Both Taiwan and Mainland China are member countries of WTO. However, there are still many limitations in trading between two countries. Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement, ECFA, would be considered as a FTA between Taiwan and Mainland China. Compare WTO with ECFA, ECFA could provide better clauses, schedule in trade liberation and tariff reduction in goods. Furthermore, the tariff of some goods can be fully eliminated. ECFA could be perceived as an opportunity and a threat to Taiwan. It could be a great ¡§opportunity¡¨ to create substantial trading and investment opportunities through industry investing to Taiwan. However, this agreement could also result in trade diversion effect, and it would be a ¡§threat. This study is trying to explore how ECFA impact on steel industry in Taiwan through secondary data collection and analysis. Some foreseeable impacts are listed and some response measures are suggested. Any agreement has benefits and lost. ECFA is like a two-side blade. It might bring new trading opportunities or lead the trading diversion effect. Using Taiwanese competitive edge is the key to succeed. Taiwanese steel industry should take this chance to reconsider its¡¦ product value and positioning. Trying to differentiate its steel products to others, increase the value of the products and enhance the product quality. Taiwanese steel industry could create sustainability and profitability by increasing the competitively of steel industry.

LENA - upptäcker den språkliga miljön : Den tidiga lyssnings- och talspråksmiljön hos en grupp svenska barn vid 12 till 18 månaders ålder.

Mosten, Linn, Stenberg, Ebba January 2017 (has links)
It has been shown that the amount of words known by a child may vary greatly, even as early as in their preschool years. This may have later consequences on their abilities in reading and writing. Language development of a child is, to a large extent, based on its interaction with its environment. By speaking with a child, in addition to speaking to it, one may support its language development considerably. There are tools to map a child’s early listening environment and colloquial language environment, in this case, Language ENvironment Analysis (LENA). In relation to the parents’ levels of education, potential connections between the amount of adult words, conversational turns and child vocalization were investigated. Additionally, the child’s expressive vocabulary was also investigated (measured with the parent report SE-CDI). A smaller validation regarding adult words and child vocalizations were done on LENA. 10 children between the ages of 12 to 18 months with normal hearing ability, swedish as their only language and no known disabilities participated in the study. A daylong recording was done with a recording device, which was worn by the child in a vest. After a completed recording the data were analyzed by LENA. No significant correlations could be reported between adult words and child vocalizations as well as between conversational turns and child vocalizations. The level of education of the participating mothers correlated with conversational turns (r = .66, p = .05), electronic sounds (r = .66, p = .05) and a higher score on the parent report Developmental Snapshot (DS) (r = .87, p = < .001). The result of the validation between the test leaders’ average results and LENA’s calculation had a congruence of 76% for adult words and 69% for child vocalizations. In conclusion, the LENA method could be used to get an overall picture of a child’s language environment. However, further validation of LENA in swedish is required.

"An Analysis of the European Telecommunications Strategic Environment: How Can Strategic Actions Be Defined to Adapt to the New Scenario? A Telefónica Case Study"

Albini, Gabriele Luigi Aldo January 2013 (has links)
This research presents an analysis of the European Telecommunication strategic environment with particular focus on the three macro-changes which have been influencing the recent history of such industry. These are, first of all, the shift from a government-controlled market to a privatized market. Second, the introduction of price limitations - called Eurotariff - which are supposed to regulate the mobile traffic throughout Europe. Finally, the constant growth of data and internet traffic demand, compared to the voice traffic demand, mainly due to the success of OTTs (Over-the-Tops) and the introduction of NGN (Next-Generation Network) applications and software. Such changes have increased the competition in an industry which was organized in monopolies and are forcing the companies to change, following the different customers' needs. Throughout the essay, a case study about Telefónica has been developed: after a presentation of the company and of Telefónica's deregulation process, the consequences of the environment analysis will be defined and, finally, some strategic actions will be proposed in order to adapt to the new strategic environment. The methodology which has been followed consists in a research on the models existing in literature designed to analyze the strategic environment. The best ones have been used and applied to the real case, involving Telefónica: the findings obtained have then been considered the basis to define the strategic actions. The purpose of the paper is twofold: first of all to offer an understanding of the telecommunications business with a particular focus on the Eurotariff, OTTs and NGN phenomena; second to show how a strategic environment can be effectively studied, focusing on the changes that characterize the industry, and how the consequences can be deduced. The information coming from this type of studies is very important for a company to understand what to change in order to adapt to a new context and achieve better performances.
