New themed attraction for the theme park industry-western/equestrian production show

Levin, Darren Eric 21 October 2010 (has links)
This thesis explores creation of new themed entertainment attractions for the Theme Park Industry. The creative process of new work, centering on the devising, designing, and preproduction stages of this industry and theatre is the focus of this thesis. The product is an Equestrian/Western Production Show including live vocalists, recorded music, lighting, scenic design, and costume design. The extending goal is to begin to prepare documents for a pitch proposal to a major Theme Park/Themed Entertainment Corporation for inclusion in their Western themed entertainment offerings. This themed entertainment attraction is created to introduce people to historical Rodeo and Western Variety show traditions and spectacles. Honoring these traditions and forms of entertainment provides thrilling visual experiences for the audience. Research, development, and show content focus upon historical and present day western shows. Production concepts outlined include the show concept, soundtrack, script, lighting design, scenic design, sound design and costume design. Central to the creation of the production show is the script and full sound design which are included as a part of this thesis. Scenic Design renderings, ground plan and centerline section illustrate the layout of the performance space. Lighting research images, storyboards, renderings, plot and centerline section illustrate the further visual composition. Costume elements are presented through research morgues broken down by character, act, and clothing look. / text

Matronae equestres. The Female Kinship of the Roman Knights from the Western Provinces during the Roman Empire. 1st-3rd Centuries.

Alvarez Melero, Anthony 05 February 2010 (has links)

A Mechanized Horseback Riding Simulator as an Aid to Physical Therapy

Lott, Jennifer 11 July 2006 (has links)
Equine-assisted therapy is a nontraditional form of physical therapy that involves riding horses as a form of rehabilitation. Limited access to these riding programs justifies a need to develop a horseback riding simulator capable of simulating the gaits, bend, and collection of the horse. Research involving the development of horseback riding simulators is limited, but the available research does show promising results in the ability to aid in physical therapy. A two-dimensional model and simulation was developed using MATLAB. Using the results from the simulation, a horseback riding simulator was designed, fabricated and tested. The physical simulator was capable of simulating a walk, trot, and canter, bend to the left or right, and collection of the gait. The purpose of the testing of the horseback riding simulator was to evaluate the similarity of the physical simulator to the gaits of the data collected from a real horse. The results from the testing are compared with the kinematic data from the MATLAB simulation. The biomechanical effect on the hip flexion angle is also evaluated when the system simulates bend and collection of the horse’s back. The motion data was collected using a Vicon system. Four cameras were set up to collect the data from the five reflective markers that were placed on the rider. The kinematic results of the horseback riding simulator were compared to the computer simulation using the measurements of the inclination of the ellipse, the major axis of the ellipse, and the frequency. The results from the hip flexion angles shows that the test that simulated bend only results in a significant increase in the hip flexion angle compared to the tests without bend. Simulated collection does not change the hip flexion angles of the rider. Future work on the horseback riding simulator is needed in order to increase the safety so that a person with a disability would be able to use it as part of their physical therapy. Adaptive programming of the system is also necessary to make the horseback riding simulator more similar to that of a real horse.

ENGINEERING SPORT SAFETY: A STUDY OF EQUESTRIAN CROSS COUNTRY EVENTING

Kahmann, Katherine M. 01 January 2010 (has links)
The sport of equestrian cross country eventing has seen many serious and even fatal injuries due to rotational horse falls in recent years. The sport originally consisted of horse and rider teams jumping stationary, wood fences. However, in a move towards increasing safety for horses and riders, frangible and deformable safety devices have been emerging in the field. This thesis provides an overview of safety designs that are currently available and those that are on the horizon. Also, a path-finder method of evaluating and developing safety fence designs was outlined and applied to two distinct designs, a hinged gate and a collapsible table fence. A full size prototype of the hinged gate was constructed and tested in the field in two different locations. The collapsible table fence design was developed and then a ½ geometric scale prototype was constructed to demonstrate design feasibility and to analyze design development challenges.

Larsson, Ylva January 2014 (has links)
Horseback riding counts a high injury frequency, but with an enhanced feeling for riding, more riders would sustain less falls from the horse, which is the most prevalent cause of injury. The aim of this study is to investigate if horseback riders experience feedback from an instructor and horse to affect their development of feeling for riding, and if there are differences in this aspect between professionals and leisure riders. The feeling for riding has been defined as the ability to stay over the horse's center of gravity, in the same tempo and direction and to anticipate and interpret the horse's and one's own signals (Larsson, 2011). The study has proceeded from theories of feedback in school education (Hattie & Timperley, 2007). The survey has been carried out through a web-based questionnaire covering 32 questions, of which 18 were framed from theories of feedback in education, aimed towards riders with Facebook account, visitors at three horse focussed magazine websites and email to horsebusiness related persons. The questionnaire got 587 respondents, of which 114 are or have been professional riders. The result of the study shows that the riders find feedback to be functional in developing the feeling for riding and that it is also used in riding instruction. However, there are some aspects with lesser congruency. One conclusion is that feedback from the horse is immediate and valuable, but an effective instruction and interactive discussion with the instructor/trainer are applicable to find solutions. Another conclusion is that it is easier for professional riders to apply the feeling for riding through feedback.

It's like the angels sing and all once you reach it [Flow]” : A qualitative study of equestrian riders experience of Flow

Janson, Maja January 2014 (has links)
Theaim of this study was to investigate how riders perceive Flow, and how ridersperceive the interactions with the horse during Flow. The study included 10female respondents (M = 18.7, SD = 1.48) with competition experience rangingfrom none at all to international level (Jumping = 4, Dressage = 3, Eventing =2, No competition = 1). A semi-structured interview guide was developed basedon Csikszentmihalyi's holistic perspective on the nine dimensions of Flow(Jackson & Csikszentmihalyi, 1999), and data were analyzed throughqualitative content analysis. The results showed both that the riders'experience of Flow correspond well with other athletes experience (Swann etal., 2012) and confirms earlier interpretations of that riding is differentfrom most other sports though the outcome largely depends on the interactionand collaboration between horse and rider (Beauchamp and Whinton, 2005).Furthermore, the results also show that the interaction between horse and rideris an important and irreplaceable part in the experience of Flow.

Horse and Rider Figurines from Ancient Marion

January 2014 (has links)
abstract: Ancient Mediterranean cultures incorporated equine iconography into their artistic repertoires, demonstrating the horse's importance not only as a beast of burden and war, but also as a visual symbol of wealth and prestige. Interaction between man and horse appears in clay as early as the third millennium BC, along with the early development of ancient Near Eastern cultures. Tactical evolution in Near Eastern warfare, particularly the eclipse of chariot forces by the rise of cavalry, coincided with the emergence of equestrian terracotta figurines and facilitated the popularity of horse and rider imagery. Cyprus' many city-kingdoms have yielded a vast, coroplastic corpus in both votive and mortuary contexts, including figurines of equestrian type. These terracottas are an important contribution to the understanding of ancient Cypriote cultures, cities and their coroplastic oeuvre. While many studies of excavated terracottas include horse and rider figurines, only a limited number of these publications dedicate adequate analysis and interpretation. Ancient Marion is one of the Cypriote city-kingdoms producing a number of equestrian terracottas that are in need of further examination. By focusing on the unpublished horse and rider figurines from Marion, this paper will add to the conversation of Cyprus' inclusion of equestrian iconography in coroplastic production. Through thorough analysis of the horse and rider terracottas, specifically their plastic and stylistic components, this thesis establishes typologies, makes visual comparisons and demonstrates Marion's awareness of an equine vogue both in contemporary Cyprus and abroad. The horse and rider figurines of Marion are an important contribution to the better understanding of the city-kingdom and exemplify the inclusion of equestrian imagery within the context of ancient societies. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Art History 2014

Hållbarhet i en textil värdekedja : en studie av produktutveckling inom ridsport / Sustainability in a textile supply chain : a study of product development within equestrian sport

Hydén, Emilia, Majava, Sara January 2018 (has links)
Equestrian sport is one of the largest sports in Sweden. Despite this, it has lagged behind in the development towards a sustainable future. However, according to research, there are a lot of strategies for implementing sustainability in the textile value chain, which the equestrian companies could benefit from.   The purpose of this study has been to map some of the Swedish product development brands in the equestrian industry, to see how they work with sustainability and what kind of obstacles and challenges they face within this work. A qualitative method was used in the study, where interviews were conducted with Swedish companies that manufacture products for horses and riders. Production takes place exclusively abroad.   The results of the study show that the four participating companies work differently with sustainability. Although the two most prominent and most established companies are reasonably similar in their design and in their vision of sustainability, different measures have been taken to achieve these. Crucial factors seem to be the ability to allocate resources to active sustainability work, and commitment from employees and management, but also traditional factors weigh in. Where the older company works more conservatively with well-implemented strategies, such as code of conducts and long-term supplier relationships to create stable relationships, while the more newly established company takes another path, where innovation and research are the main focus. Similarities to how conventional clothing companies work has been identified, in terms of supplier management and managing code of conduct's regarding labor issues.
