Ve jménu Krista-Vybrané myšlenky členů menších českých evangelických církví v období 1890-1940 / In the Name of Christ-Selected Thoughts of the Members of the Lesser Czech Evangelical Churches in the Period 1890-1940Mašek, Tomáš January 2018 (has links)
The work focuses on the specification of the specificities of the thinking of some smaller evangelical churches in the territory of Bohemia in the period 1890-1940. Specifically, this is the Brethren Unity of Chelčický (Baptist), the Unity of Czech Brethren (formerly Reformed Free Church) and the Evangelical Methodist Church. The focus of the interpretation is to introduce the construction of confessional identity based on the relationship to the past and the specific interpretation of the personalities and events that shaped the tradition from which these churches were based. Another element forming the identity of the members of these churches was their attitude to the modern secularization tendencies against which they stood in opposition. Last but not least, their confessional consciousness determined their definition of other forms of piety. The aim of the work was to provide, based on the study of the published written sources left by the members of these three churches, a comparison and characterization of their way of viewing certain subjects through their religious beliefs.

Místo setkávání Travná mezi roky 1968 - 2004 / Place of Encounter Travná between 1968 and 2004Rosický, Aleš January 2018 (has links)
This thesis describes place of encounter Travná from the time of its establishment to 2014. The main aim of this work is to describe what types of influences affected meetings of youth in Travná. The main sources used in this work are several interviews which were conducted with people who are connected to Travná in some way. Methods of oral history were used for the realization and processing of these interviews. Thanks to a wide variety of interviews across the investigated time period, we can find out a lot about the history of youth meetings. A large part of the thesis is devoted to pastor Adolf Petr, who was the founder of Travná and who influenced many other events connected with youth meetings. Other topics which arose from the interviews and which are important for the youth meetings are different types and displays of piety, work in Travná, ecumenical and foreign collaboration, time of Communism and social work in Travná. The author tries to put encounters in Travná before 1989 into the context of other young people church meetings in Czechoslovakia. Events from 1990s Travná are seen in the context of a newly formed legal and economic system.

[en] EVANGELICAL: CONTRIBUTIONS TO HISTORICAL SEMANTICS (1858-1917) / [pt] EVANGÉLICO: CONTRIBUIÇÕES À SEMÂNTICA HISTÓRICA (1858-1917)04 May 2021 (has links)
[en] From 1810 began the entrance of Protestants in Brazil, which caused considerable presence of this group in the country. However, it was only in the second half of the century that the first Protestant work was set up for the national public to subsist. This happened in 1858, with the organization of the Igreja Evangélica, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, by Reverend Robert Reid Kalley. In 1917, already with a consolidated Protestant presence in the country, Carlos de Laet in criticizing the form of the religious propaganda of this group registers the use of the evangelical term used by them. In this context, the present work analyzes some documents produced in the disputes over the Brazilian religious field between the second half of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth, in order to ascertain the process that gave rise to the concept of the Gospel as it is understood today. The investigation of the concept stems from the appropriations and meanings attributed to the term evangelical and to others in disputes over the Brazilian religious field. This work identifies itself as a social history of the concept, which seeks to emphasize precisely the interrelations between the approach of social history and that of the history of concepts. In this sense, taking the gospel concept as the central point of the research, because it is understood as an index and a social factor, I try to identify and analyze when and how, in a predominantly Roman Catholic country, a typical term of theology was appropriated by Protestant groups. And finally, borrowing expression from Reinhart Koselleck, as he became nouns.

Brazilian evangelical missions among Arabs : history, culture, practice, and theologySmither, Edward L. 13 June 2011 (has links)
The aim of this work is to tell part of the story of the Brazilian evangelical missions movement by focusing on the work and Brazilian evangelical transcultural workers serving in mission in the context of the Arab-Muslim world. These participants are members of a broader movement of more than 5000 Brazilian evangelicals serving around the world - an evangelical labor force large than that of England or Canada - which has grown significantly since 1976. In order to locate the work of Brazilian evangelicals in an Arab-Muslim context, it was important to first offer a historical narrative showing how Brazil has shifted in the twentieth century from being a “mission field” to being a base for sending missions. Relying on key historical literature, this has been accomplished first by recounting how Brazil was evangelized largely by North American missionaries in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Building on this narrative, the argument has been made that while the Brazilian evangelical church does share common characteristics with North American and global evangelicalism, it has also begun to forge its own evangelical identity. One important part of this identity is its concrete participation in global mission efforts. As transcultural mission necessarily involves cultural adaption, forty-five past and present Brazilian evangelical workers were invited to participate in a collective case study and reflect upon their own “Brazilianness” and how they have adapted in the Arab world. The perspectives of ten Brazilian mission leaders have also been included. In this study, I have treated Brazil as an affinity bloc of cultures in which there is clear diversity as well as some elements of cohesiveness. I have approached the Arab world in the same way. Hence, the framework for discussing Brazilians in the Arab world has been to reflect upon two affinity blocs and to ask members of one group (Brazilians) to share their collective experiences living in a second group (the Arab world) specifically regarding seven aspects of culture that have clear missiological implications. They include: race, economics, time, communication, family, relationships, and spiritual worldview. After hearing these Brazilian voices, it has become evident, culturally, speaking that Brazilians are not Arabs and that Brazilians must surely work to adapt culturally. However, it also appears that there is generally less cultural distance between the Brazilians surveyed and their Arab contexts than what is normally experienced by Western missionaries in the Arab world. This study was also concerned with asking, how are Brazilian evangelicals approaching mission in the Arab-Muslim world? Following a collective case study methodology, this question was posed to individual Brazilians and teams, but also to Brazilian evangelical missions organizations working in the Arab world. While a number of themes (strategies and practices) emerged, it seems that Brazilians are particularly concerned about humanitarian work and personal evangelism and would regard these areas as strengths of their movement. On the other hand, Brazilian workers and mission leaders also identified the most apparent challenges in their work among Arab-Muslims. They included: a lack of Brazilian local church support for missionaries, deficiencies in language learning, lack of financial support, and difficulties faced by Brazilian women in Arab contexts. For each apparent difficulty, I have proposed some solutions based on the collective input of Brazilian voices. Finally, in this study, I have posed the question, how do Brazilians think theologically about mission? Also, how is this Brazilian missiology relevant to transcultural mission work in the Arab-Muslim world? While I have approached this question primarily through surveying the literature from Latin American and Brazilian theologians, I have also looked for missiological themes in the thoughts of Brazilian evangelical workers and through observing their concrete mission practices. From this, four theological themes have emerged that are descriptive of Brazilian missions. They include: that mission is holistic (missão integral); that mission is church-centered; that authentic mission originates from “below” or from a posture of vulnerability; and that one‘s missiology must be undergirded by an awareness of the spiritual world. In summary, through this work, I have have endeavored to tell part of the story of an emerging majority world missions movement by listening to the voices of Brazilian transcultural workers who serve in the Arab-Muslim world. The goal of this study is to inform the global church of this phenomenon in order that the global church would learn from the Brazilian experience as it moves forward in mission and missiological reflection. Secondly, my desire is to provide a framework of self-reflection for Brazilian evangelical missionaries and missions organizations serving in both the Arab-Muslim world but also in the entire world. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2010. / Science of Religion and Missiology / unrestricted

Přestupové hnutí v Mělníku roku 1921 / "Transfer Movement" in Mělník in 1921Novák, Jiří January 2014 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with so called "transfer movement" in Mělník in 1921. The term "transfer movement" refers to a strong campaign which tried to persuade people to leave the Roman Catholic Church before the census of February 1921 in or der to the emancipation of our nation from the Church would have been expressed. The general principle of the movement was that the Rome had always been our enemy, that the reformation is the very essence of our national identity and that the Catholic Church had been an ally of the Habsburg dynasty. The thesis tries to explore the role of the leading groups of the "transfer movement" (especially Czechoslovak Church, Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren and Freethought) and of the press in Mělník as well as the reaction of the local catholic clergy. The core of the work is based mainly on primary sources (both archive and published). It was found that the transfer movement was rather successful. No violent clashes were reported. Voices of Vicars and Priests : A Comparative Study of Religious Leadership According to Vicars and Priests of the Catholic Church in Sweden and the Evangelical-Lutheran Church of SwedenGranberg, Lisa January 2023 (has links)
Between February 1st and March 16th 2023 sixteen qualitative research interviews wereconducted with deans, vicars and priests of both the Catholic Church in Sweden and theEvangelical-Lutheran Church of Sweden with the aim to compare how they look at their religiousleadership, and what their answers might say about their respective theological traditions using asuggested theory called Comparative Lived Theology. The main research findings rendered fromthese interviews may be divided into the following three sections: firstly, top-down and bottom-upleadership approaches in a religious setting is descriptive of the structure of the religiousorganisations. Secondly, the fact that Evangelical-Lutheranism is a majority religious tradition inSweden sets it apart from minority traditions such as Catholicism, and this affects the religiousleadership. Thirdly, the interviews generated a notion that party politics plays a different role in thestructure of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Sweden than it does in the Catholic Church in Sweden.

[pt] A ARDENTE CARIDADE DO EVANGELHO: MISSIONARIEDADE EUCARÍSTICA NA TEOLOGIA LUTERANA / [en] THE FERVENT LOVE OF THE GOSPEL: EUCHARISTIC MISSIONARY SPIRIT IN LUTHERAN THEOLOGYLAERTE TARDELI HELLWIG VOSS 04 May 2023 (has links)
[en] The research is carried out on the missional, ethical and horizontal dimension that
flows from the Sacrament of the Lord s Supper in Lutheran theology, in a
theological bias, dialogical and ecumenical perspective and with a particular
interest in a pastoral application that affects the parish reality. In a time marked by
an individualistic eucharistic praxis, uncompromised and unproductive from the
point of view of the fruits of the sacrament, comes a search for the improvement
of the liturgical-eucharistic spirituality directed towards the incarnated service of
Christian charity in the world. Based on certain gap that is perceived in academic
and ecclesial reflection on this relationship between the Eucharist and mission,
particularly in the Brazilian Lutheran context, and on the intuition that there are
enough elements in lutheran sacramental theology to be better used, this work
poses the question: what kind of Eucharistic missionary spirit can be found in
Lutheran theology? The research has a bibliographical methodology, with
procedures for historical explanation and dialectical and progressive discussion. It
starts from a contextualization of the Lutheran Reformation movement, assuming
its intention to value the gospel and continues by unveiling Lutheran eucharistic
theology, synthesized as the incarnate gospel. In an immersion in Luther s texts
and other theologians of this tradition, the lutheran eucharistic missionarity is
revealed in a powerful and fruitful call to the missional living of this gospel that
intends to be incarnated horizontally. Finally, a pastoral proposal emerges for the
benefit of the mission that flows from the altar to life, having the Evangelical
Lutheran Church of Brazil as its focus. Along the way, gems of the bilateral
dialogue between Catholics and Lutherans and of Catholic theology itself are
considered.

Over the past 20 years, Western societies have undergone profound transformations, among other things, due to immigration. These transformations are characterized by an increasing diversity and the impact of a multitude of traditions and religious beliefs. The proliferation of religious traditions and their expression often poses a real challenge, bringing the question of the place of religion in the public space and, consequently, making proselytism and its regulation at the heart of concerns. In certain European societies, considered modern and secularized, such as France, governments are inclined to ensure a certain social cohesion and assert secularism. This is also the case in Quebec, as in June 2019, the law of secularism was adopted. This law, among other things, attests to the neutrality and separation of the state and religion. However, sometimes, some individuals go beyond these principles, viewing secularism as a means to eliminate any traces of religious beliefs in the public space. For some, it could even be a tool to limit the proselytism of religious groups. Based on a few interviews, this research examines the experience of proselytism as lived by evangelical Protestant believers in Montreal. Does the Quebec context generate notable resistances to this religious practice protected by the law?
