Architectures expérimentales : penser et agir une pratique située (généalogie, contexte et éléments théoriques) : l'expérience de YA+K / Experimental architecture : think and made a situated practice (genealogy, context and theorical propositions) : experience of YA+K

Delprat, Etienne 22 November 2017 (has links)
This thesis aims to develop a new conception of architectural practice defined by its experimental value and an in situ approach. At the same time, practitioners from various fields whose work is based on different working formats share a new way to conceive of ‘the project’. They no longer work remotely following the traditional project process – analysis, design and construction. They immerse themselves working for, with and on a context, using actions and productions to set the context to work. This research invites the reader to explore and critically analyse a redefinition of traditional architectural methods and formats, linked to this approach. This thesis takes as its starting point the work of YA+K– interdisciplinary group that I co-founded in 2011. Using my experience within our practice, I first critically analyse a group of projects produced by YA+K (installations, residences and workshops). I then outline several issues that provide the structure of the manuscript, and follow this by situating our approach in a genealogy of practices and practitioners. Then, in order to position this research in its current professional and disciplinary context, I identify several challenges now faced by the architectural field – the evolution of cities, the relationships between practitioners and techniques, and the fragility of the discipline and profession. For each of these points, I develop a theoretical framework, incorporating three major lines of reflection: 1) thinking and working in the urban context through the concept of intermediary urbanism, 2) thinking in relation to technologies based on a DIY approach, and 3) the need to reshape the approach to architectural projects in light of the current crisis in the profession. Lastly, I draw on lessons from these lines of thought in order to articulate three theoretical proposals offering ways to reconceptualise the approach to architectural projects: 1) think around the site(s) and not the context, 2) conceive of different approaches to projects and their classical conflicts (in particular between thinking and doing) through the use of workshops, and 3) try to redefine architectural production, emphasising its experimental value and multiple formats.

Dealing with Data

Lundberg, Agnes January 2021 (has links)
Being an architect means dealing with data. All architectural thinking—whether it is done with pen and paper or the most advanced modeling softwares—starts with data, conveying information about the world, and ultimately outputs data, in the form of drawings or models. Reality is neither the input nor the output. All architectural work is abstractions of reality, mediated by data. What if data, the abstractions of reality that are crucial for our work as architects, was to be used more literally? Could data actually be turned into architecture? Could data be turned into, for example, a volume, a texture, or an aperture? What qualities would such an architecture have?  These questions form the basis of this thesis project. The topic was investigated first by developing a simple design method for generating architectural forms from data, through an iterative series of tests. Then, the design method was applied to create a speculative design proposal for a combined data center and museum, located in Södermalm, Stockholm.

Espaços Cíbridos: mobilidade e locatividade na arte e na arquitetura pós-virtuais / Hybrid Spaces: mobility and localization in post-virtual art and architecture

Santos, Luciana de Paula 24 May 2016 (has links)
This research talks about the issue and process of convergence between urban space and locative media, which form a third space: the Cybrid space. The Cybrid is a term coined by the architect Peter Anders, to designate a hybrid environment where to develop social practices related to cyberculture. With the spread of Internet 1.0 in the 90\'s, which takes place from the massive sales of personal computers, the aspects of knowledge have addressed the implications of the emergence of a new place: the virtual space. But it is especially among \'digital artists\' of Net.art and architects who investigated the ways of perceiving, producing and aesthetically create this new place. A decade later, the virtual environment has suffered a new twist: the distribution of portable telecommunication devices: smartphones, coupled with tracking devices, demarcation and spatial mapping. The resulting practices of these new media: locative media, associated informational layers to objects, people and assemblages networking and spatially locate this network. To investigate the process of hybridization between the informational sphere and space, drew up a mapping of art and architecture works that specifically address this issue. The selection of these two fields of knowledge for the analysis is justified because they are related areas that are promoting paradigmatic changes in this field and bringing essential contributions to the understanding of social practices involving cybrids spaces. Each project offers, the theoretical, descriptive support, on current forms of telematics convergence in space and tense specific issues that the hybridization process, contributing to the advancement of knowledge about the production process, ownership and sharing of these technologies urban space.

Arquitetura interativa: contextos, fundamentos e design / Interactive Architechture: contexts, fundamentals and design

Carneiro, Gabriela Pereira 25 April 2014 (has links)
This work delas with the relation between architecture and technology, from the observation that, the potential of digital information processing is spreading, not only through the adoption and use of computing devices by people, but also, their addition on objects and places. Within this context, this study provides basis for the understanding and design of interactive architecture, a type of physical space that compels the implementation of interactions, enabled by digital information processors. To achieve this, the work is divided into three parts: context, fundamentals and design. At the first part, Reading keys to understand instances with which the interactive architecture dialogues are provided. This type of spaces is understood, not as a consequence of technological development, but as part of a bigger, complex and connected context. Specifically, it adresses the interrelation between the ideological, technological and socio--spatial contexts. The second part, explores the topic of interactive architecture, as a result of technology introduction into the architectural product, and then, analyzes some aspects that give coherence to it as a specific form of intervention and expression. The third part, adresses the main issues that motivated this research, namely the design process of interactive architecture and the contributions that interaction design can provide this type of practice. Finally, nine parameters -- conceptual elements capable of being manipulated -- are outlined to guide the design of interactive architecture. Among other uses, the function of these parameters is to expand the vocabular and methods of architecture practice as a whole. Overall, the approach adopted is a means to explore and understand more about the technological world we live. The motivation to understand what is required to design the interactive architecture, that is, to include the technology in the final product, presupposes discussions that broaden the architectural field. It includes within it, the possibility and need for architects to act, beyond consumers of this technology, as active protagonists in their conformation.

Morfogênese de ramificações: de padrões de crescimento de redes vasculares a estruturas biomiméticas / Branching morphogenesis: from growth patterns of vascular networks to biomimicry structures

Titotto, Silvia Lenyra Meirelles Campos 07 June 2013 (has links)
This survey weaves comparative relationships among growth patterns of vascular networks and argues that, in the concept of morphogenesis, in analogy to biology, there are generative clustering and evolutions in branched structural systems. To understand this generative clustering, adjacent concepts to fractal geometry are used - the study of rough, porous or fragmented structures that keep their irregularity to a similar degree at all scales. Although fractals are better known as resulting objects of mathematical algorithms in successive iterations in the field of computer science, in this research the natural structures that approximate to models of irregular fractals, i.e., classified as statistical, and that are found in various minerals and organic systems are predominant. Images of branched patterns are researched and collected in loco for a first production of practical work. They are mostly photographs of natural biological beings with some branching level, but they also include statistical fractal structures analogous to biological systems. These branching study cases are then categorized according to surface patterns, colors, body structure, functionality in the system in which they operate and interaction with other systems or living organisms present in a given ecosystem. From the selection of a few organisms according to their characteristic movements and body structure, installation artworks are experimentally designed where hybrid biomimetic structures are created to sensory and kinetically respond to human, environmental and climate stimuli.
