The meaning of feedback towards pupils’ development : A qualitative field survey with teacher perspective.

Dahl, Emma January 2016 (has links)

New Teacher Support: How One Massachusetts School District Facilitates and Sustains Teacher Growth

McManus, Philip Brian, Imel, Telena S., Palmer, Maryanne, Panarese, Christine January 2014 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Lauri Johnson / This qualitative case study examined the structures and conditions in one Massachusetts school district that supported new teachers. Data was gathered from semi-structured interviews with teachers and administrators, artifact analyses and participant observations of district meetings. While the existing literature on new teacher support focuses on mentoring as the primary means of induction, study results indicated that the district supported new teachers through building a collaborative atmosphere where new teachers regularly meet with veteran teachers in their subject area and grade level; weekly meetings with mentor coordinators; and strong principal support. However, new teachers were not formally assigned a mentor, which can leave them without a primary support person. Recommendations are made to formalize the mentoring program, to provide a mentor coordinator for each building, and to involve principals more formally in the induction program. / Thesis (EdD) — Boston College, 2014. / Submitted to: Boston College. Force Feedback for the Patient Side Manipulator of the daVinci Research Kit

Novoseltseva, Anna 25 April 2018 (has links)
Teleoperated robotic surgical systems such as daVinci are widely used for laparoscopic surgeries. The currently available daVinci system does not provide haptic feedback. Prior research has shown that the addition of haptic feedback improves surgeons' performance during minimally invasive surgeries. Other authors have implemented haptic feedback in the daVinci robot, but some issues made them impractical for clinical use. In this work, two strain gauge force-sensing devices were created for the patient side manipulator of the daVinci surgical robot. These devices were designed to be easily added to the existing system and used for the real-time force feedback in the daVinci robot. The proposed system has high sensitivity and resolution, matches the required force measurement range, and has high signal-to-noise ratio, which implies high signal quality. However, the absolute errors of the currently built devices are high due to the manufacturing techniques used on the prototype that could be improved upon for a deployed device. This work demonstrates fast 3-DOF force measurements on the daVinci robot without any robot or instrument modifications. While the present system has significant systematic errors, these can be mitigated by altering the mechanical design to improve the accuracy of the system.

Evaluating User Feedback Systems

Menard, Jr., Kevin Joseph 04 May 2006 (has links)
The increasing reliance of people on computers for daily tasks has resulted in a vast number of digital documents. Search engines were once luxury tools for quickly scanning a set of documents but are now quickly becoming the only practical way to navigate through this sea of information. Traditionally, search engine results are based upon a mathematical formula of document relevance to a search phrase. Often, however, what a user deems to be relevant and what a search engine computes as relevant are not the same. User feedback regarding the utility of a search result can be collected in order to refine query results. Additionally, user feedback can be used to identify queries that lack high quality search results. A content author can then further develop existing content or create new content to improve those search results. The most straightforward way of collecting user feedback is to add a graphical user interface component to the search interface that asks the user how much he or she liked the search result. However, if the feedback mechanism requires the user to provide feedback before he or she can progress further with his or her search, the user may become annoyed and provide incorrect feedback values out of spite. Conversely, if the feedback mechanism does not require the user to provide feedback at all then the overall amount of collected feedback will be diminished as many users will not expend the effort required to give feedback. This research focused on the collection of explicit user feedback in both mandatory (a user must give feedback) and voluntary (a user may give feedback) scenarios. The collected data was used to train a set of decision tree classifiers that provided user satisfaction values as a function of implicit user behavior and a set of search terms. The results of our study indicate that a more accurate classifier can be built from explicit data collected in a voluntary scenario. Given a limited search domain, the classification accuracy can be further improved.

Employees’ Responses to Positive Feedback from Customers and Managers

Tsai, I Hsuan 20 June 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to understand the impacts of positive feedback from customers and managers and the extrinsic rewards and intrinsic rewards on job satisfaction. Furthermore, this research will examine how employees in the hospitality industry react to positive feedback and to explore whether this positive feedback has practical applications to help increase employee satisfaction. A total of 500 questionnaires were distributed, 339 valid surveys from respondents with experience working in the hospitality industry were returned. The results indicated that positive feedback from customers as well as summarized positive customer feedback delivered by managers have positive relationships with intrinsic reward, extrinsic reward, and job satisfaction. The findings suggested that positive feedback does influence employees’ Job satisfaction. And this study will provide suggestions on improving employees’ positive perception by applying positive feedback to increasing employees’ satisfaction and further development.

Feedback and control of micro-pumps

Tomac, Tom, n/a January 2006 (has links)
This thesis constitutes the documentation for a Doctoral research program undertaken at the Industrial Research Institute of Swinburne University of Technology (IRIS) between 2001 and 2005. The focus of the research was an investigation of the open- and closed-loop response of piezoelectric micro-pumps for micro-fluidic applications, particularly for chemical and biomedical environments. Specifically, in order to successfully integrate micro-devices into functional systems, it was important to address issues of real-time performance monitoring and control. The research addresses some of these problems in the context of a piezoelectric-driven micro-pump, equipped with interferometric displacement feedback, which was used to measure the dynamic displacement of the micro-pump actuator surface. During the course of the research, both a discrete component and a fully integrated (laboratory-on-a-board) test system were developed for open-loop characterization of the micro-pump. The laboratory-on-a-board system was also used for closed-loop control application. Measurements showed significant differences in actuator velocity, displacement and settling time between different pumping media. In addition, transient underdamped vibration of the actuator surface was observed during the rapid excursion and recursion phases of the pump movement while pumping air. These non-contact measurements could be used to determine the open-loop characteristics of a micropump and provide information for design improvement or failure detection/analysis. The technique could also be used to provide continuous measurement for adaptive compensation, so that the pump performance criteria are always satisfied. To this end, an automated interference fringe counting algorithm was developed, so that the steadystate parameters could be mapped into the closed-loop control elements in real time. The performance of this algorithm is discussed herein, together with the implications for optimal control of the micro-pump, and eventual integration of the interferometer and micro-pump systems. The research indicated that there were potential benefits in closed-loop control of micro-pumps, particularly where failure detection was required and for pumping of non-homogeneous media. The thesis also documents the relative performance differences between open and closed-loop control in homogenous media.

Kristiansson, Dan, Nordström, Rasmus January 2008 (has links)

Lindkvist, Karin, Andersson, Linda January 2008 (has links)

Lundgren, Malin January 2009 (has links)
