Paul Desenne’s Sonata for Violin Solo: A Theoretical and Practical Study

Fernandez, Luis M 04 May 2011 (has links)
Numerous influential composers are associated with the program known as "El Sistema" in Venezuela. Despite a richly prolific output from many of these figures, only a few are known in the United States and throughout the world. Among the most influential is Paul Desenne (b. 1959), whose Sonata for Violin Solo is the subject of this doctoral essay. Throughout his youth and musical education, Desenne was exposed to an eclectic variety of musical styles and idioms. This eclecticism influenced his compositional style from the time of his earliest compositions and is also evident in his more recent works. The Sonata for Violin Solo reflects this cultural interweaving that incorporates music from Desenne’s native Venezuela and utilizes elements from indigenous tribes, Spanish settlers, and African peoples that are combined with global musical elements. This essay explores these elements from a theoretical perspective, as well from the practical viewpoint of the performer.

Raigoza, Claudia 01 January 2014 (has links)
This thesis explores the leadership styles of three female presidents in Latin America: Michelle Bachelet (Chile), Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (Argentina) y Dilma Rousseff (Brazil). These three women were chosen because each has been the first generally elected female president in their respective countries. Each woman’s profile is divided into two parts: 1) an expository evaluation of the life and career of each woman, and 2) a case study of her specific leadership style based on a particular event or challenge faced during her presidency. It is important to understand the political trajectories of these women because they demonstrate how certain cultural, structural, and institutional barriers have broken over time, allowing more women to ascend to the highest political offices. On the other hand, each case serves to enrich our holistic understanding of some of the current female presidents and in what ways they have been successful leaders. In general, Bachelet has been a transformational leader, Fernández de Kirchner has been a charismatic leader, and Rousseff has been an authentic relational leader. Through these case studies, we see that there is no one “feminine” leadership style, a conclusion which coincides with the existing literature.

Ramon Fernandez et la quete du pere

Kidd, William January 1981 (has links)

Lemonde-V., Joseph 04 1900 (has links)
This research revolves around the notion of "biofiction", the importance of which is explained from the notions of "biography", "hagiography", "autobiography", but also "mythical narrative", "autofiction" and "popularization". Biofiction, a biographical fiction, makes it possible to approach contemporary literary phenomena in which the exemplarity of certain figures is central. The literary corpus under study consists of postmodern bio\hagio fictions about the 12th century visionary Hildegard of Bingen and the late 16th - early 17th century Baroque painter Caravaggio (Nobécourt, 2013; Tancredi, 2012; Fernandez, 2002; Haenel, 2019). How (and why) do authors today approach such figures from a transcultural and transhistorical perspective? Based on four novels that (re)adapt the lives of these two figures, I will show how the exemplarity and singularity of their existence is crystallized by the novel and can cross the shackles of the "biographical" by allowing them to pass from fictional character to place of memory (Nora, 1993). To do this, we will probe the specificities of biographical and hagiographical writing and the case of the novel character as considered in the theories of narratology (Dosse, 2011): what forms the fictional, in what way does it stand in opposition (and in adhesion) with the biographical? The analysis of the corpus will also focus on narratological elements that are often put forward in biofiction research-creation: narrative experiments where extra, intra, hetero and meta diegetic narratives, as well as internal, external and zero focus, are linked and alternated. It will demonstrate how narrative games serve the biofiction narrative, and what strategies and methodologies the authors use to give their novels credibility, singularity, and biographical legitimacy. This dissertation aims to dissect, from several angles (literary, sociological, narratological, media, cultural, historical) biofiction as a form (Viart, 2001) in all its hybridity, as it has been practiced (in Western countries) in recent years (2000 to 2020).
