A Survey to Determine the Public Responses and Attitudes Toward the First Festival of Mormon Art at Brigham Young University

Southey, Trevor 01 January 1969 (has links) (PDF)
A survey was conducted to determine the responses of the public to the First Festival of Mormon Art on exhibition at the Brigham Young University. Data were collected by means of questionnaires made available to gallery visitors. Through these responses it was determined that:(1) Over three-fourths of the visiting public felt that art is important in relation to the Gospel. There was a positive correlation between the respondents' interest and experience in art and their feelings for the importance of art in relation to the Gospel.(2) Over three-fourths of the visiting public felt that the exhibition was successful. The respondents less qualified and less interested in art tended to rate the show both more positively and more negatively than those more qualified and more interested in art.(3) Slightly more than half of the visiting public felt that the written statements placed next to some of the works were helpful in appreciating or understanding the works.(4) The illustrative works tended to be less popular generally than some of the less illustrative or abstract works.

Heritagization of Food. : The Case of Qeshm Island, Iran.

Tajik, Yeganeh January 2022 (has links)
The heritagisation of food reveals the underlying processes by which various actors articulate a particular foodstuff as a heritage in an attempt at pursuing differing aims. Food heritage evokes images, memories, and pride, or motivates habitual consumption, and it can become a lifestyle or even a source of income. Seafood has been reconceptualized as a heritage cuisine in Qeshm Island, Iran. This qualitative case study seeks to explore how the process of food heritagization is carried out by local and external actors in this region. Drawing on the interpretivist paradigm, data was gathered through in-depth semi-structured interviews, and document analysis of literature reviews, books, magazines, and news. Inspired by the theory of food heritagization by Bessiere (2013), data was analyzed through thematic analysis. Findings demonstrated that that place attachment greatly influenced the motivations and aspirations of local community for the participation in the heritagization of local food and also development of tourism development. The reported findings are expected to contribute to the literature on food culture, specifically heritage food.

The First Ones Back: Actor Testimony and the ‘Show Must Go On’ Ethos at the Stratford Festival of Canada in 2021

Lane, Cyrus 02 February 2024 (has links)
This thesis looks at Shakespearean performance at the Stratford Festival of Canada during its 2021 outdoor ‘pandemic’ season. It argues that the dominant pre-pandemic ‘show must go on’ ethos, that puts institutional well-being ahead of actor well-being, persisted during the pandemic season, even as the Festival implemented painstaking anti-racist and anti-oppressive initiatives. Alongside this argument, the thesis interrogates the ethics around the use of actor testimony in scholarship and attempts to ethically expand its focus from pure Shakespearean performance to include actor statements on institutional practices and policy. Extensive interviews with the 2021 casts of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and R+J are, to this end, at the heart of the study. The paper follows Bridget Escolme’s instruction to use actor testimony dialogically and places these interviews in conversation with contemporary Shakespearean performance theory around labour, disability, diversity, pandemic Shakespeare, the nature of the ‘Shakespearean actor’ in Western culture, and, most importantly, with actor testimony from other sources and the auto-ethnography of the author, a Stratford actor himself. Concentrating on testimony around Zoom, masking, and social distancing during the rehearsal process, the thesis reveals the emotional, physical and financial difficulties the actors took on in order for the show to go on at the Stratford Festival during the Covid-19 pandemic.
