O diário de juventude de Liev Tolstói: singularidades do \'diário de escritor\' e confluências com a prosa artística / The youth diaries of Leo Tolstoy: peculiarities of the writer\'s diary and convergences in the artistic prose

Erasso, Natalia Cristina Quintero 16 May 2016 (has links)
Leo Tolstoy, famous Russian writer known worldwide for his novels, also kept a diary for 63 years. The whole set of his personal notes occupies 13 out of the 90 volumes of his complete work. The present work, proposes an analysis of the first volume of his diary, written during the period 1847-1854, which is considered as the philosophical and aesthetical formation stage of the great writer. Taking the concepts of non-fiction and diary genre, we examine the singularity of Tolstoy\'s Diary amongst the variety of writers\' diaries. We sustain as well, that Tolstoy\'s diary has served not only as an artistic laboratory for him, but it also makes evident the seamlessness between thought and artistic realization in different phases of Tolstoy\'s creation. In order to do so, we present a study of the novels The Cossacks and Jadji Murat, in which we establish links between those works and the Diary of the Russian author.

The intense presence of violence in Brazilian history is articulated not only with forms and themes, but also with the ways artists express themselves, including in literature. The so-called crime fiction literature, which Cidade de Deus stands out as an example of, shows violence in an urban context as the main theme. This research aims to contribute to the studies on representations of violence and their meanings in literature and how that advanced Brazilian literary criticism, by analyzing the formal features and thematic aspects of the novel Cidade de Deus. We attempt to analyze the description of violence in the book, especially regarding the limits and representation possibilities within the ethical sphere, considering how it s impossible to represent the catastrophe. Issues we address are: the author s point of view and how he represents it; the outlines for representing extreme situations, which cannot be compared to anything other situation; the fact that the representation of violence brings implications to realism and the insight built by Paulo Lins and the possible connections between the representation of violence in the novel and the concepts of trauma, testimony, and melancholy, the way they have current been used in critical literary. The results show that Cidade de Deus can t be considered a testimonio due to the fact that this genre is set in post-dictatorial Latin America, despite its POV-style (Point of View) content, among other reasons, because it does not present a hesitant and unreliable narrator. We have also demonstrated that the insight s effect, hailed by critics, consists of literary and non-literary aspects and procedures. Moreover, we conclude and try to prove that Lins's novel is irregular, since it occasionally brings the representation of violence in order to encompass multiple meanings; in other times, it brings joy through stereotypical representations of violence. The theoretical framework is grounded in the proposals of Karl Erik Schollhammer, Tania Pellegrini, Jaime Ginzburg, Márcio Seligmann-Silva, Antonio Candido, Beatriz Resende and Hal Foster / Esta pesquisa consiste em investigar imbricamentos éticos e estéticos da representação da violência no romance Cidade de Deus, de Paulo Lins.

We draw a time line with three works of science fiction to more effectively demonstrate a regency of his art about facts that permeate a reality and imaginary, a science and a literature. Such works as What are The War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells, 1984 by George Orwell and The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury. In addition to the portrayal here as functions that differ from the elements inherited from other literary genres and their transmutations, a question of an element for man throughout his evolutionary process, a war. We use war as the most defining of scientific and technological progress, banks are broadly defined in these three works. And finally, about these requirements, what is more inherent in science fiction is its feedback between the real and imaginative, imaginative and real.

Podstata a strategie šíření turnerského "völkisch" světonázoru / The "völkische Weltanschauung" of the German Gymnastic Unions and the Strategies of its Propagation

Klement, Martin January 2019 (has links)
In the Austrian-Hungarian, ethnically German gymnastic unions of "Deutscher Turnerbund" and "Turnkreis Deutsch-Österreich", between the late 1880s and 1918 there was an officially propagandized set of racial, nationalistic and religiously-ethical opinions known in the German literature as the "völkische Weltanschauung". This propaganda was also seen after the World War I in the Austrian union of "Deutscher Turnerbund 1919", in the union of "Deutscher Turnverband" which used to exist in the Czechoslovakia and in some segments of the German union of "Deutsche Turnerschaft". Using the newest search results, archival sources and until now predominantly ignored literature (e.g. unions periodicals, educational booklets and novels), this dissertation applies the analytic-synthetic and comparatively orientated method to answer the questions, which ideas the "völkische Weltanschauung" was consisted of, who formulated them and how they have been developed over time. Special attention is payed to the principles and effectiveness of the educational institutions (the so- called institution of the "Dietwarte"), fiction literature, periodicals and festivities in the process of the indoctrination of the young and old gymnasts. For the breadth of themes and the distinction between the official unions...
