All the method constructed to direct the relational analysis is based on the balance between text and context. The recognition of the ongoing debates in the Russian intellectual field, in permanent contact with the West, as well as the biographical and technical elements of the authors and their works constitute the paths of analysis. Weber became, at the same time, object of study and method. His own concepts were brought to the center of the analysis, making possible the interpretation and understanding of the individual behaviors of authors and literary characters, in order to extract their sociological meanings. In the first stage of the analysis, that relating to the disenchantment of the world by science and technique, The Death of Ivan Ilitch proved to be one of the strongest literary representations of the effects diagnosed by Weber on this process. The Dream of a ridiculous man proved to be the result of intense debate in Russia between Slavophiles and Westerners. Dostoevsky promotes, in the narrative, an invitation to Russia's resistance against the advance of Western science with its devastating process of disenchantment of the world. In the second moment of the analysis, the disenchantment of the world in its religious sense, while the loss of magification by the religion of the means of salvation, revealed that both the Karamazov Brothers and Resurrection demonstrate a Russian socio-historical basis radically different from that diagnosed by Weber in the West. On the western side, a rationalization of the exitence seeking for salvation, of an intramundane ascetic character that was pouring into the exclusivist and capitalist individualism that was eminently competitive. On the Russian side, a rationalization that did not follow the extreme western degrees and remained, therefore, in its mystical-contemplative or ascetic extramundane Christian bases, in any case fomenting a communist vision of universalist brotherly love that contrasts with the capitalist ethics. The conflicts of modernity and the effects of the disenchantment of the world, revealed in the productions of authors analyzed, have given the world the most striking diagnosis that we have heard of the course that humanity has taken, from modernity (by Weber), and from the possible paths to our history, to which Russia leaves thoughtprovoking clues under the pen of Tolstoy and Dostoevsky.

Sobre isto: síntese da poética de Maiakóvski / About this: synthesis of Mayakovsky\'s poetics

Mei, Letícia Pedreira 27 April 2015 (has links)
The monograph is composed by two interconnected parts. The first one proposes a poetic annotated translation of the poem About This (1923), by Vladimir Mayakovsky, from Russian into Brazilian Portuguese, unpublished in Brazil yet. The aim of the second part is to present and analyze the fundamental elements of the poem, be it in terms of imagery and subject, be it concerning the formal compositional aspects. The poem was writen between December 1922 and February 1923. It has 1,813 verses and was published for the first time in the premiere edition of the journal LEF, created and directed by Mayakovsky. Despite of the animosity of the critics, many considered it to be the most well developed work of the poet, including himself. The poem defends a new love befitting the revolution and the new society, it criticizes the individualism of the traditional family and the petty bourgeois philistinism. The revolution is reflected in the imagery and compositional formal aspects employed, which makes About This a summary of Mayakovsky\'s poetics. In the light of the formalist theories of Ossip Brik, Nikolai Khardjiev, Vladimir Trenin, Roman Jakobson, Kristina Pomorska, and Mayakovsky\'s own poetic conception, the present study aims at demonstrating how sound and sense merge to revolutionize the approach of love in literature and how Mayakovsky\'s poetical workshop is completely accomplished in this oeuvre.

Tavares, Renata Corbetta January 2016 (has links)

The present dissertation consists in an examination of the translation process accomplished by Nabokov: the transposition of his novel Lolita to screenplay format. Aiming to identify how the author/translator approaches the central theme of the plot - the controversial relationship of a grown man and his teen-age step daughter - an analysis of such process is presented. Such analysis is based on the functionalist approach to translation studies, specially on the contributions of Christiane Nord (1991) with her model of text analysis in translation. Based on the study carried out in this dissertation it is possible to conclude that the controversial theme of Lolita's plot is approached through two main biases in Nabokov's retextualization to screenplay: the focus on semiotic elements in the written text (a peculiar aspect of the target text), and the production of dialogues by using literal extracts of the novel. Furthermore a discreet mitigation of the controversial nature of the relationship between Humbert and Lolita's characters, and a strategy towards making H.H.'s character more relatable to the public are identified as translation choices in the retextualization.

This dissertation proposes a literary analysis of The Way of a Pilgrim (2008), a spiritual classic from the Orthodox Russian Christianity. Serguei Dovlátov: texto de cultura na literatura russa contemporânea / Sergei Dovlatov: cultural text in modern Russian literature

Mikaelyan, Yulia 17 August 2016 (has links)
This work is aimed at translating the novel Pushkin Hills by Sergei Dovlatov into Brazilian Portuguese (the title in Russian is Zapoviednik, and the title in Portuguese is Parque Cultural, 1983) and analyze this text from a semiotic point of view. We furthermore intend to present the basic features of Dovlatovs work, who is considered to be one of the leading Russian prose writers of the second half of the XX century and one of the greatest representatives of the Third Wave of Russian Emigration, to readers and Brazilian researchers. One of the features of Dovlatovs artistic methods lies in the close connection of his work with the culture, literature and history of Russia and the Soviet Union. This feature allows us to analyze his texts as cultural texts, according to Yuri Lotmans semiotic concept. The themes of the novel Pushkin Hills reflect such phenomena of Soviet culture as, among others, the \"Soviet\" myth of the poet Aleksandr Pushkin, who is considered to be a symbol of culture, the existence in the Soviet Union of two parallel cultures (official and unofficial), the massive emigration of the 1970s. The translation of the novel into Brazilian Portuguese, with notes and comments, is an integral part of this work. Almost all of Dovlatov\'s work is humorous, and conveying elements of humor and cultural references in the text was one of the challenges of this translation.

Um mundo fora dos eixos: a literatura russa contemporânea através do Russian Booker Prize / A world out of order: the contemporary Russian literature through Russian Booker Prize

Oliveira, Deise de 15 March 2012 (has links)
Our project consists in the discussion of contemporary literature and culture in Russia, especially the question of post-modernism, by a specific focus: the analysis of the winning works of the Russian Booker Prize contest focusing on the process of classification adopted by the judges as well as a overview of the awards in Russia. To this end, we will analyze, at first, critical thinkers and most representative of this \"prose alternative\" or post-modern, always with a historical foundation. Understanding the individual post-Soviet is of fundamental importance to deal with the issues and characters of novels winners. In a second step, our work is to investigate the criteria used by banks in order to try to find (if any) a common point among some of the winning works. Think about these points will be extremely important to understand the value systems of the critics involved in the awards process, and contribute to the enrichment of a new analytical approach of the new Russian literature and some of its most prolific names.
