The reality of time, history and life in the prose of Ivan Bunin

The thesis focuses on two major aspects. Firstly, it offers a discussion of the evolution of the notion of 'historicity' in the thought of various Russian thinkers and cultural historians with particular reference to the ideas of Berdiaev, Bakhtin and Likhachev. It also addresses the problem of the contribution made to the twentieth-century humanities by the 'Slavonic Renaissance' of the early part of the twentieth century. Secondly, the work examines various views on the issue of historical time and its perception and representation in artistic work, focusing primarily on the specificity of artistic time in the prose of Ivan Bunin. The discussion of this issue is based on four of Bunin's substantial works (The Shadow of the Bird, The Life of Arsen 'ev The Emancipation of Tolstoi and Dark Avenues), examining the problem of historical time from semantic and formal points of view. The analysis of the novel The Life of Arsen 'ev emerges as central to the whole discussion since it approaches the problem of the notion of 'path through life' and its significance both for an understanding of Bunin's work and in relation to the discursive practice of the 1920s and early 1930s in Russia. Moreover, for Bunin this category proves to be both a feature of artistic thinking and of generic significance, extending the boundaries of understanding and portrayal of historical time in its various aspects.

Official Representation of the Works by Alexander Grin in the USSR: Constructing and Consuming Ideological Myths

The present thesis analyzes the cultural image of the Russian neo-Romantic writer Alexander Grin (1880-1932) as it has been constructed by Soviet ideology and received in Soviet popular culture since the late 1950s. The topic of the thesis is unique, and it has not yet been investigated before. The thesis explores three major aspects of Grin's representation in Soviet culture: critical, fictional and cinematic. The first part "Critical representation of Grin's works in the USSR" focuses upon the process of construction and development of ideological "myths about Grin" in the system of Soviet culture. It demonstrates and analyzes the transformation of the official and public attitude to Grin's works from the 1920s to the 1980s. The second part is entitled "Representation of Grin's image in Soviet fiction: Grin as a fictional character". Through the coherent analysis of three Soviet novels (introducing Alexander Grin as a protagonist), it explores the phenomenon of the transformation of both the personal and socio-cultural attitudes to Grin. The fictional works are viewed in chronological order: The Black Sea by Konstantin Paustovsky (Chernoe more, 1935), The Wizard from Gel'-Giu by Leonid Borisov (Volshebnik iz Gel'-Giu, 1944) and The Lord of Chances by Valentin Zorin (Povelitel' sluchaynostey, 1977-79). The third part concentrates entirely on the Cinematic representation of Grin's works on the Soviet screen, analyzing five major film-versions of Grin's works: Scarlet Sails (Alye parusa, dir. Ptushko, 1961), She Who Runs the Waves (Begushchaya po volnam, dir. Lubimov, 1967), Shining World (Blistayushchiy mir, dir. Mansurov, 1984), The Golden Chain (Zolotaya Tsep , dir. Muratov, 1986), Mister Designer (Gospodin oformitel', dir. Teptsov, 1986). The study of Grin's case offers a unique opportunity to investigate how the old ideological myths are occupying the minds of younger generations nowadays. Grin is still a "cult figure" for Russian society, but it remains to be investigated to what extent his contemporary image (and the image of his fiction) is influenced by the old models of the Soviet era.

The last part of the application part are recommendations for Czechs for effective dealing with Russians.

Foi nesse contexto que Liérmontov escreveu a peça Mascarada, uma crítica à sociedade e aos hábitos fúteis e mesquinhos de sua época. Vsévolod Emilevitch Meyerhold (1874 1940) estreou a sua Mascarada em 25 de fevereiro de 1917 em meio a revolução que viria a derrubar a monarquia e a velha Rússia. Depois quase seis anos e ensaios e preparações, figurinos, objetos de cena e cenários criados especialmente para a peça estavam prontos para o que viria ser ao mesmo tempo o fim de uma era e o nascimento de um novo teatro. A presente dissertação se propõe a analisar Mascarada desde a sua gênese no romantismo de Liérmontov até a espetacular montagem de 1917 e seus desdobramentos no teatro. / Mikhail Yurevitch Lermontov (1814-1841) lived in a period marked by great social upheaval, a time of transition in life and in Russian society. It was within this context that Lermontov wrote the play Masquerade, a critique of society and the petty and trivial habits of his time. Vsevolod Emilevitch Meyerhold (1874-1940) premiered his Masquerade on February 25, 1917 in the midst of a revolution that would overthrow the monarchy and transform the old Russia. After almost six years of preparations and rehearsals, the costumes, props and scenery created especially for the piece were ready for what would be both the end of an era and the birth of a new kind of theatre. This dissertation aims to analyze the Masquerade from its genesis in the romanticism of Lermontov to the spectacular production of 1917 and its effect on theatre.

In the thesis is described the main reasons of formation of this phenomenon in Russia and also is made analysis of its history from formation to loss of significance, where special attention is paid to the literary salon of the rule of Alexander I. To reveal the specifics of the literary salon were analysed the difference between the salons and societies and other forms of organization of literary life, difference between the salons owned by ladies or gentlemen and also difference between the St. Petersburg and Moscow literary salons. This diploma thesis deals with presentation of russian culture, life and institutions in teaching sets for teaching russian at czech high schools. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the role of russian language in the contemporary world and the history of teaching russian in the Czech republic, presents Curricular documents. The thesis also deals with the meaning of a teaching set during learning language and present teaching sets for teaching russian, which were analyzed as an instrument for teaching culture and acquiring of communication skills. The practical part of this thesis analyses the teaching files Радуга по- новому, Снова Класс! and Твой шанс and offers the complete summary of representation of russian culture in these teaching sets. The main aim of this thesis is to compare the image of Russian Federation in selected teaching sets with a real high school students' knowledge. The realised research shows that the students' knowledge are not noticeably different under the terms of type of high school or a teaching set that they use. The majority of responders made known that their teaching set includes enough information about culture, nevertheless their knowledge is not good. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo traduzir para português brasileiro e fazer uma análise semiótica da novela Parque cultural (1983), do escritor russo Serguei Dovlátov. Além disso, pretendemos apresentar aos leitores e pesquisadores brasileiros os traços fundamentais da obra deste, que é um dos principais prosadores russos da segunda metade do séc. XX e um dos maiores representantes da Terceira Onda de emigração russa. Uma das especificidades do método artístico de Dovlátov consiste em uma forte vinculação de sua obra com fatos da cultura, literatura e história da Rússia e da União Soviética. Essa característica permite-nos analisar seus textos como textos de cultura, segundo a concepção semiótica de Iú. Lótman. Na novela Parque cultural, espelham-se tais fenômenos da cultura soviética, como o mito soviético do poeta Aleksándr Púchkin, considerado símbolo da cultura, a existência na União Soviética de duas culturas paralelas (a oficial e a não oficial), o fenômeno da massiva emigração dos anos 1970, entre outros. A tradução da novela Parque cultural (título em russo, Zapoviédnik) para o português do Brasil, com notas e comentários, constitui parte integrante deste trabalho. Praticamente toda a obra de Dovlátov é humorística, e a transmissão dos elementos de humor e marcas culturais, presentes no texto, foi um dos desafios dessa tradução. / This work is aimed at translating the novel Pushkin Hills by Sergei Dovlatov into Brazilian Portuguese (the title in Russian is Zapoviednik, and the title in Portuguese is Parque Cultural, 1983) and analyze this text from a semiotic point of view. We furthermore intend to present the basic features of Dovlatovs work, who is considered to be one of the leading Russian prose writers of the second half of the XX century and one of the greatest representatives of the Third Wave of Russian Emigration, to readers and Brazilian researchers. One of the features of Dovlatovs artistic methods lies in the close connection of his work with the culture, literature and history of Russia and the Soviet Union. This feature allows us to analyze his texts as cultural texts, according to Yuri Lotmans semiotic concept. The themes of the novel Pushkin Hills reflect such phenomena of Soviet culture as, among others, the \"Soviet\" myth of the poet Aleksandr Pushkin, who is considered to be a symbol of culture, the existence in the Soviet Union of two parallel cultures (official and unofficial), the massive emigration of the 1970s. The translation of the novel into Brazilian Portuguese, with notes and comments, is an integral part of this work. Almost all of Dovlatov\'s work is humorous, and conveying elements of humor and cultural references in the text was one of the challenges of this translation.
