Pacheco, Suzana Moreira January 2014 (has links)
This study, entitled The integral Education perspective in a school for all and for each one, aims to understand the foundations of a political and pedagogical project, developed in a public school in Porto Alegre / RS, which is grounded in dimensions of Popular Education. The research seeks to examine how evidence themselves, articulate, and support are put into operation the principles of public and popular, respectively, for all the and for each one, from the perspective of Integral Education. Derivatives of this problem arise the following research questions: the fact that the school investigated have been the result of the struggle for the right of families to a school for their children had / have influence over your project from the perspective of Integral Education? What are the possible relations between the concept of the learning community and the proposed integral Education of the school? What has been produced from the dialogues that are permanently caught between cultures, knowledge, actors and institutions in this school everyday? This productivity is expressed as a result of a proposal for a integral Education? To do so, the study draws on participatory methodologies, the main strategies the composition of a focus group, involving mothers in the community and the observations on the boards of a specific group of the III Cicle, the final years of the Elementary School. The authors like Miguel Arroyo, Carlos Rodrigues Brandão, Danilo Streck e Edgar Morin, among others, comprise the theoretical grounding that guided the discussions produced this thesis. From the analysis undertaken, it is possible to enlist some considerations, which include: 1) the forms of participation that marked the history of the school reverberate even today in terms of sustaining a draft comprehensive and inclusive education; 2) inclusive memory, forged lived experience of the school and is imprinted in social and pedagogical practices, and enhance the functioning of the whole and for each; 3) the concept of the learning community is echoed in school design, however, assumes other features as regards the authorship constitution of democratic process.

Objective: Investigate actions (beliefs, behaviors, affects and body satisfaction), related to the body image of children between 06 and 08 years old, from the city of Juiz de Fora, MG. Method: The participants were 32 boys and 32 girls, students of public schools, with an average of 7.15 (SD=0.64) years old. The children were divided into 8 groups, 4 composed only of girls and 4 of boys. Each group had 8 individuals participating. The focus group technique was used. The meetings happened on alternate days and had the average duration of 60 minutes. The sections were recorded in audio and video and, later, transcribed for analysis. The data obtained were treated with the Bardin’s Content Analysis technique (2010) e with descriptive statistics. The mass and body height were measured to estimate the nutritional status of the participants. Results: It was verified, from the categories, self portrait e body appearance, of themes and words expressed in the comments of the participating children that, since childhood, the relation established among the body, the family, friends and the media results in considerable socio-cultural influences on attitudinal dimension focused on the body image during childhood. Beliefs, thoughts and feelings to the body emerged in the focus group, which supports the idea of possible body dissatisfaction since the early ages. The results of the main research showed significant similarities and differences between boys and girls with respect to the multifaceted construct of body image. The boys were concerned about the definition, especially of the abdomen, with muscularity and skin color. Skills and superpowers were also emphasized as relevant to the characters of the male media. The girls were more concerned with their hair and thinness. Attendance to the gym to achieve an ideal body, as well as the importance of accessories, shoes and clothing were highlighted by both genders. Comments from the boys focused on sexuality should be highlighted in the research. It is noted that the media was considered as a major risk factor for the ideal body stereotype and consequent dissatisfaction with appearance. The concern with comments and acceptance of friends was a factor that emerged in the groups. Moreover, the similarities with the body and the preferences related to family emerged in several moments. Final Considerations: Although this qualitative study does not intend generalizations, its findings underscore the importance of considering strategies should be valued in schools and with the families so they will fully promote the aspect of human development and the education of the children, considering the good body image.

Mobile development : Linnaeus University App for Exchange students

Jiménez Tarrés, Víctor January 2014 (has links)
Every year approximately a thousand of exchange students arrive to Växjö looking forimproving their university experience. The main problem is that this amount of peopleis very difficult to handle and organize. Sometimes, students don’t have enoughsupport, missing important information, missing interesting events and so on. In consequence, the students can develop a bad feeling about the universityorganization giving a bad feedback to the future potential incoming students. This is abad aspect to Linnaeus University because it is losing future students. In order to solve the problem, different surveys have been done to the internationalstudents, and even to the Växjö International Students (VIS) organization. The findings from these surveys are very interesting, and it is possible to identify andgroup different problems in order to make the solution easier. Furthermore, a good solution is found, improving the situation we were before. The solution found will fit in the hand of each student and will bring us in a better situationfor the university and their students.

Factors influencing adherence to Antiretroviral Therapy at a General Hospital in Mombasa, Kenya

Baghazal, Anisa Abdalla January 2011 (has links)
Magister Public Health - MPH / Sub-Saharan Africa is home to two thirds of the 33 million HIV infected individuals worldwide. In 2007 there were an estimated 1.5 million Kenyans infected with HIV, and 166 000 new infections in 2008. The introduction of antiretroviral therapy [ART] brought new hope to HIV patients. It has transformed a fatal disease to a chronic manageable condition. Kenya has made great strides in ensuring access to ART and by 2009, 308 610 patients in the country were receiving ART - which is the second highest number worldwide. The success of ART requires a sustained adherence rate to medication of more than 95% to prevent viral replication and the development of drug resistant HIV strains. Identifying the factors that influence adherence, is essential for the long-term success of public ART programmes. The current study explored patient, socio-economic, cultural, and religious and health systems factors that influence adherence to ART at the Coast Provincial General Hospital [CPGH] in Mombasa, Kenya. / South Africa

Man blir lite taggad men också frustrerad : En explorativ studie av checkpoints i spelet A Story About My Uncle

Eriksson, Sebastian, Zethraeus, Sebastian January 2013 (has links)
In this study we pose the question if you through finding patterns in implementation of checkpoints can find ways to tailor the experience of the game A Story About My Uncle to hardcore gamers. To find out the answer we had hardcore players playing a modified level from the game A Story About My Uncle that was used as stimulus material for the following focus group interview. The analysis of the gathered material resulted in four patterns that can be used when implementing checkpoints to tailor the experience of the game A Story About My Uncle to hardcore gamers. Elements of checkpoints that our study showed to be important when it comes to how the game is experienced are density, placement and clearness.

Healthcare and patient factors affecting sick leave : From a primary health care perspective

Carlsson, Lars January 2017 (has links)
Background: For indeterminate reasons, there have been major variations in sick leave in Sweden, and many physicians have perceived sick leave assignments as burdensome. Aim: To gain more knowledge and understanding, from a perspective of primary health care, about factors in health care and patients that affect sick leave. Thereby help patients in the best way, facilitate the work of physicians and other health professionals involved in the rehabilitation process, and use the health care resources optimally. Methods: This thesis is based on a randomised controlled trial (RCT) in a primary health care centre with participants on short-term sick leave, due to pain and/or mental illness, who received a multidisciplinary assessment. Qualitative focus-group discussions with physicians in primary health care centres. A cohort of women on very long-term sick leave due to pain and/or mental illness, who lost sickness benefits due to a new time limit on sickness insurance, were randomised to multidisciplinary assessment and multimodal intervention (TEAM), or to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). In an extended cohort, including some men on very long-term sick leave due to pain and/or mental illness, the importance of the motivation for return to work (RTW) was investigated. Results. Very early multidisciplinary assessment increased days on sick leave in the first three month period. Physicians at primary health care centres perceived sick leave assignments as burdensome, but clearer rules and cooperation with other professionals have made sick leave assignments less burdensome. TEAM intervention resulted in an increase in working hours per week as well as an increase in work-related engagements, compared to control in the RCT. Motivation for RTW was associated with RTW or increased employability in the rehabilitation of patients Conclusions: Continued studies are needed to find those who are at risk of long-term sick leave, the time when rehabilitation efforts should be started, and the content of rehabilitation. Collaboration in teams facilitates sick leave assignments for physicians at primary care health centres. Motivation for RTW might be a factor of importance for the effect of rehabilitation and needs to be studied further.

Physical activity levels and health promotion strategies among physiotherapists in Rwanda

Ngarambe, Robert January 2011 (has links)
Magister Scientiae (Physiotherapy) - MSc(Physio) / Physical inactivity has become a global health concern and is among the 10 leading causes of death and disability. This has led to increased concern for chronic diseases of lifestyle (CDL). Studies have revealed that regular physical activity is effective in combating several CDL such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension and obesity. Physiotherapists are in a position to combat inactivity and effectively promote physical activity to their clients. Studies however have shown that participation in physical activity among physiotherapists could have an impact on the promotion of physical activity and their health practices. This study therefore sought to establish the relationship between physical activity levels of physiotherapists and their physical activity promotion strategies and barriers to promoting physical activity. Sequential Mixed Method Design was used in this study. Data was collected by means of a self administered questionnaire and a total of 92 physiotherapists voluntarily answered the questionnaire. A focus group discussion comprising of 10 purposively selected physiotherapists was conducted. The questionnaire assessed physical activity levels and physical activity promoting strategies of the participants while the focus groupdiscussion looked at the barriers to promoting physical activity. The Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 18 was used for data capturing and analysis. Descriptive statistics were employed to summarize demographic information as means, standard deviation, frequencies and percentages. Inferential statistics (chi-square) was used to test the associations between different categorical variables (p<0.05). For the qualitative data, focus group discussions were used to collect data. Tape recorded interviews were transcribed verbatim, field notes typed, sorting and arranging data was done and themes were generated. Thematic analysis was then done under the generated themes. Ethical issues pertaining to informed consent, anonymity, confidentiality and the right to withdraw from the study were respected in this current study. The findings in the current study revealed that a big number of the participants were physical active both at work and recreation domains. However, there was no statistically significant association between physical activity and the demographicvariables. The results in this study revealed that the majority of participants were good physical activity promoting practices, although there was no significant association between physical activity levels and the physical activity promoting practices. The finding in this study revealed that discussing physical activity and giving out information regarding physical activity to their clients were the most common methods used in promoting physical activity. However, participants also highlighted barriers they ace in promotion of physical activity such as policies on physical activity, cultural influence, nature of work, time management as well as environmental barriers. The study demonstrates the need for all stakeholders to come up with solutions to break the barriers to promotion of physical activity. In return it will bring about enormous health benefits to the general population. / South Africa

Open-book assessment in the qualifying examination of South African chartered accountants

Du Preez, Hanneke 21 September 2011 (has links)
The global financial environment is constantly and rapidly shifting. This has resulted in changes to the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). In support of the developments in the global business environment and the swift changes in IFRS, the local financial regulators have had to follow with supporting changes in national regulations. Taking the above factors into consideration, the auditing and accounting professions all over the world face various challenges, and South Africa (SA) is no exception. Thus, it was imperative for these professions in SA to make the same radical alterations. One of the areas demanding attention was the process of becoming a Chartered Accountant (CA). Inter alia, one focus area was the final examination in the qualifying process. The Chartered Accountant Qualifying Examination Part One (QE Part 1) has been changed from a closed-book assessment to an open-book assessment. This change is relevant because of the importance of the examination itself and the apparent lack of intensive research on students’ perceptions of this type of assessment. In my research I explored the perceptions of taxation students on open-book assessment in the QE Part 1. My study commenced with a focus group (consisting of students that had no previous open-book assessment exposure). I used Interactive qualitative analysis (IQA) as qualitative research method. During this focus group, the students identified ten perceptions (also referred to as affinities) on open-book assessment. For each affinity the focus group provided a descriptive name and an explanatory definition. These affinities were: good preparation, back-up, encourage, general advantages, improve quality of answers, negative symptoms, negative environment, personal experience and hindrance, different approach and time management. This group of students also identified relationships between these different affinities. These relationships were summarized and reflected in a system interrelationship diagram (SID). Findings from this SID indicated that students perceive good preparation as the strongest driver for successful completion of an open-book assessment. The SID indicates three primary outcomes namely negative symptoms, a different approach and time management. The affinities as identified by the focus group were then used during the interviews (conducted with students who had previous open-book assessment exposure). During the IQA interviews, the students were asked to comment on the posed affinities and the possible relationships between them. These findings were summarized and reflected in an interview SID. This SID indicated that these students perceived the primary driver in the system to be a different approach with two primary outcomes - negative environment and improvement in quality of answers. The IQA method is in essence a theory–generating tool that assisted me in my understanding of a group and individual students’ perceptions, before and after exposure to an open-book assessment. / Dissertation (MCom)--University of Pretoria, 2011. / Taxation / unrestricted
