Kaj Anderssons Morgonbris : kvinnopress, trettiotal och längtan efter fri tidEkstrand, Eva January 2007 (has links)

In the 1930s the Swedish homes were modernized through a series of social reforms. As a result of this, time was expected to be released from the housewife’s daily domestic duties and the question was what to do with this time. In this dissertation the concept of time is used in the sense of free time as time for free thinking. The time issue during the thirties is an underlying question throughout the study. The magazine Morgonbris (1904-), a political campaign journal published by the social democratic women’s association (in Swedish: Socialdemokratiska kvinnoförbundet, SSKF) was the public arena for political issues of this kind.

The aim of the study is to scrutinize the magazine, its shape (typography and layout) and content, the editors´ journalism as well as the relationship to the SSKF and the circle of readers during the decade, in order to describe the dramatic changes of this political and public arena with special focus on the editorship of Kaj Andersson (1931-1936).

Methodologically this study draws on Hannah Arendt’s “storytelling” or “fragmented historiography”. Theoretically the concepts “public sphere” and “proletarian experiences” are adopted and Jürgen Habermas, Oscar Negt & Alexander Kluge as well as Pierre Bourdieu, are referred to. The gender perspectives of Joan F. Scott and Yvonne Hirdman are also adopted.

Kaj Andersson’s ”active journalism” in Morgonbris exhibits two distinguishing characteristics during the thirties, it was clearly socialist and critical towards nazism and fascism and it was the most salient vehicle of modernity within the Swedish press at the time. She re-styled the magazine, gave it a new outfit and introduced a new kind of modern, photojournalism. The result was an economic upswing for the magazine. The heritage of Ellen Key´s aesthetics came forward in a consumer campaign, “The best of the industry to the needs of the homes” (Fabrikernas bästa till hemmens behov), which bears similarities to the “Better Homes of America” campaign, launched in the 1920s in the USA. The political path in both campaigns coincided partly with the agenda of Alva Myrdal. Also the “Housewife Holiday” campaign that Kaj Andersson initiated in Morgonbris was in line with the modernization of women’s life throughout the country. The exhausted housewives’ yearning for rest and temporary release from domestic duties was reflected in several articles, in which their grass-root initiatives were acknowledged as political action.

Until Kaj Anderson left Morgonbris, after several schisms with the committee about her creative – her backbiters would say self-indulgent – style to run the editorial office, she balanced on the border between commercialism and socialism. Her background in the party press, the social democratic newspaper Social Demokraten, influenced her ideas, but her initiatives to turn to the fields of production and consumption also drove a wedge into the field of journalism, as an involuntary beginning to separate it from the field of politics.

Adaptační proces v Domově pro seniory, Rybniční ve Strakonicích / The adaptation process in the Home for the eldery in the street Rybniční Strakonice.VALEŠOVÁ, Olga January 2016 (has links)
The dissertation is focused on the adaptation process in a certain Retirement home in Strakonice. The old age is the last evolution period of one´s life and the society should do its best to enable the people to spend this time in harmony, with sense of peace and joy. Nowadays, a pensioner is forced to think of the options provided by social services/social care in case that the health status doesn´t allow him to take care of himself sufficiently and independently or is not able to assure such care through his family. Then a long stay service in a retirement home seems to be an appropriate possibility. Joining such facility is usually considered as one of the most difficult situations that a retiree can meet with. It brings various risks as environment change with no knowledge of the area or people; it represents the loss or limitation of one´s autonomy, habits and privacy etc. A pensioner should properly consider this situation with his family, get ready for it and voluntarily decide to join an retirement home. The objective of my dissertation is to analyse the factors that influence the adaptation of retired people in the Retirement Home Rybniční, Strakonice. In the empirical part, there has been used the method of qualitative research and technics of demi structured dialogue for data collection. The research file has been chosen by the method of contingent defined selection. The own survey has been performed on a selected sample of retirees who complied with the given contingent conditions. The research showed that the arrival to the home for the elderly people is subject to poor health and inadequate housing situation, which represents a barrier to the environment for seniors. To answer the main research questions: What factors affect the adaptation process in the Retirement Home Rybniční, Strakonice? I can state, that the factors such as the home, the saturation of the needs, social contacts with family, friends and other users and active leisure more or less influence the seniors. The research results also pointed out the importance of self-sufficiency, which is affected by the health condition on one hand. On the other hand seniors are driven not only by the mission of Retirement Home Rybniční, but also by their own initiative to maintain the greatest possible degree of autonomy and self-sufficiency. The health status and the rate of self-sufficiency have a great impact on the process of adaptation and affect the individual factors of adaptation. This work should highlight the importance of the adaptation process of the seniors in the home for the elderly, which is not possible to underestimate. Furthermore, it should highlight the need for cooperation of the staff with the family, the importance of communication, environment, needs saturation and activities that can help to overcome this tough life step. Findings and conclusions of the thesis will be used as a feedback for the institution, where the research was carried out.

Les pratiques culturelles des Libanais à l'ère numérique : une question d'identité / Cultural practices of the Lebanese in the digital age : une question d'identitéAkoury, Paula 22 December 2017 (has links)
Starting from the question : what cultural matters do Lebanese people use in their free time ? This PhD thesis relies on the idea of the existence of a relationship between the structure of society and cultural practices, developed by Pierre Bourdieu in the theory of cultural legitimacy. The hybrid structure of society, a concept borrowed from Melhem Chaoul, constitutes the specificity of the Lebanese context : the existence of a francophone, multicultural and provided with a large diaspora country, as well as the contemporary diffusion of digital practices, raise questions related to the definition of cultural identity. Promoting the concept of « degree of cultural adhesion » seems necessary in order to find an answer. Based on a survey of 1,200 respondents in Lebanon, 120 respondents in France and 36 in depth interviews, the study shows that young people, as opposed to the older ones, tend most towards Western culture and digital practices. The most educated people consume both Lebanese and Western cultural goods simultaneously. As a matter of fact, the consumption of Western cultural goods is facilitated by trilingualism, which is mastered by almost half of the Lebanese. Additionally it has been shown that the regional inequality of the cultural offer is not homologous to a regional inequality of cultural practices. Religious commitment as well as the position in the life cycle impact cultural practices.
