Gambling safety net : Predicting the risk of problem gambling using Bayesian networks / Ett skyddsnät för onlinekasino : Att predicera risken för spelproblem med hjälp av Bayesianska nätverk

Sikiric, Kristian January 2020 (has links)
As online casino and betting increases in popularity across the globe, the importance of green gambling has become an important subject of discussion. The Swedish betting company, ATG, realises the benefits of this and would like to prevent their gamblers from falling into problem gambling. To predict problem gambling, Bayesian networks were trained on previously identified problem gamblers, separated into seven risk groups. The network was then able to predict the risk group of previously unseen gamblers with an ac- curacy of 94%. It also achieved an average precision of 89%, an average recall of 96% and an average f1-score of 93%. The features in the data set were also ranked, to find which were most important in predicting problem gambling. It was found that municipality, which day of the week the transaction was made and during which hour of the day were the most important features. Also, the Bayesian network was also made as simple as possible, by removing irrelevant features and features which carry very low importance.

Belöningarnas dragkraft : En undersökning om spelares val av loot-lådor i relation till hur grafik och ljud samspelar i ett digitalt 2D-plattformssspel [!] / The traction of rewards : A study of players choice of loot boxes in relation to how graphics and sounds interacts in a digital 2D-plattform game

Asklund, Klara, Larsson, Alexander January 2020 (has links)

Legitimizing gambling businesses’ negative aspects in sustainability reports : A qualitative study of sustainability reports

Skeppstedt, Carl, Karlsson, Anna January 2022 (has links)
Sustainability is a highly relevant and debated topic. More companies disclose sustainability information and in 2017 it became mandatory for larger companies in Sweden to prepare a sustainability report. Some industries are considered more or less socially accepted. One industry that suffers legitimacy problems due to its business’ nature is the gambling industry. The gambling industry is associated with social issues, gambling addiction, corruption, and money laundering, which can be considered problematic from a legitimacy perspective. This study intends to increase the understanding of how Swedish gambling companies communicate negative aspects through sustainability reporting and what role sustainability reporting has in controversial industries, such as the gambling industry.  The study was conducted by a combination of an analysis of sustainability reports from Swedish gambling companies and interviews with audit professionals. The combination of different data sources intends to give a broad perspective and a deeper understanding for how negative aspects are communicated and the role of sustainability reports. The study finds that there is a clear pattern in how different legitimation strategies are used when disclosing certain negative aspects. This study also finds that sustainability reporting is considered as a communication tool even in controversial industries where manipulation is said to occur frequently.

Patterns of Gambling and Substance Use Initiation in African American and White Adolescents and Young Adults

Werner, Kimberly B., Cunningham-Williams, Renee M., Ahuja, Manik, Bucholz, Kathleen K. 01 March 2020 (has links)
The focus of the current investigation is to examine the temporal relationship of gambling onset and alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis initiation in adolescents and young adults (M age = 20.3 years) by examining the prevalence and pattern of onset for each substance and gambling pairing and the associated risk between gambling and each substance use. Data were drawn from the multiwave Missouri Family Study (n = 1,349) of African American (AA; n = 450) and White families (n = 317) enriched for risk for alcohol use disorder and includes those who were assessed for gambling behaviors and problems: AA (360 males, 390 females) and White (287 males, 312 females). Findings indicated racial differences in the overall prevalence of gambling behaviors and substance use as well as patterns of initiation-particularly within gambling/alcohol and gambling/tobacco for males. Survival models revealed some similarities as well as differences across race and gender groups in associations of gambling with initiation of substances, as well as substances with initiation of gambling. Alcohol use (AA males only) and cannabis use (AA males and White females) elevated the hazards of initiating gambling. In contrast, gambling significantly elevated the hazards of initiation alcohol across 3 of 4 groups and of cannabis use in AA males only. The results highlight some overlapping as well as distinct risk factors for both gambling and substance use initiation in this cohort enriched for vulnerability to alcohol use disorder (AUD). These findings have implications for integrating gambling prevention into existing substance use prevention and intervention efforts-particularly but not exclusively for young AA males.

Correlations and similarities between Loot Boxes and Gambling

Sandqvist, Alexander January 2021 (has links)
Loot boxes are items in video games that contain a randomized reward. Some of them can be purchased with real-world money. In recent years loot boxes have become very common in almost all of the top games. Because of its similarities to gambling there have been thoughts on branding loot boxes as a form of gambling. Some countries have already taken this matter into their own hands and banned certain loot boxes. But there are different loot boxes with different features. This study looks at what aspects of purchasing loot boxes correlate to form of gambling. By researching the top 10 games on steam and their loot boxes combined with a literature study. In conclusion it was found that the main features of Loot Boxes that correlate to a form of gambling are features that try to mirror or copy features from Electronic Game Machines or different casino games.
