Effectiveness Of Anatolian Teacher Training High Schools In Terms Of Serving Their Intended Purpose

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of Anatolian Teacher High Schools (ATHSs) in terms of serving their intended purpose. The research design of the study comprised a nation-wide survey and document analysis. The sample for the survey consisted of 1026 students, 612 teachers, 877 parents and 259 graduates selected through stratified random sampling over 33 ATHSs across 32 provinces in Turkey, and 302 prospective teachers, selected through cluster sampling, in Gazi University Faculty of Education. Two distinct instruments were used for data collection / survey questionnaires containing multiple choice and open-ended questions / and attitude scales containing five-point Likert type questions. To analyze quantitative data, descriptive statistics, t-test and two-way ANOVA were conducted. The open-ended questions were analyzed via content analysis. Results indicated that students, graduates, teachers, parents and administrators described ATHSs as the ideal schools for students who want to enter university and/or become teachers. Students and their parents prefer ATHSs in order to guarantee a university program for a career with the guarantee of finding a job. During the four years in ATHSs students are offered quality education and their attitudes toward the teaching profession have developed positively. More than half of the graduates entered a university program, a great majority of which entered teacher-training programs. ATHS graduates studying in teacher training programs are different from their classmates graduated from other high schools with respect to preferring teaching as a profession, the priority they gave to the teacher training programs in the university entrance exam, university entrance exam scores, academic achievement in teacher training programs and commitment to teaching as a lifelong career however they are not different with respect to attitudes toward the teaching profession. The majority of the graduates who were not able to enter a university program are unemployed. Since ATHS graduates are not considered as semi-professionals, there is no specific employment area available for them. Results also indicated that ATHSs serve their intended purpose, however not to extend they are expected to. Therefore, some reform movements are needed to increase the effectiveness of these schools.

This study examines the transition to professional work after gaining a degree in the mathematical sciences. Communication is used as the basis for the analysis of the transition because of the importance of language choices in work situations. These experiences form part of the capabilities that become part of a person's potential to work as a professional. I found a subtle form of power and, of the opposite, lack of power due to communication skills. It is not as obvious as in, say, politics but it is just as critical to graduates and to the mathematical sciences. -- There were 18 participants in the study who were graduates within five years of graduation with majors in the mathematical sciences. In-depth interviews were analysed using phenomenography and examples of text from the workplace were analysed using discourse analysis. Descriptions of the process of gaining employment and the use of mathematical discourse have been reported in the thesis using narrative style with extensive quotes from the participants. -- The research shows that graduates had three qualitatively different conceptions of mathematical discourse when communicating with a non-mathematical audience: jargon, concepts/thinking and strength. All participants modified their use of technical terms when communicating with non-mathematicians. Those who held the jargon conception tried to simplify the language in order to explain the mathematics to their audience. Those who held the concepts/thinking conception believed that the way of thinking or the ideas were too difficult to communicate and instead their intention with mathematical discourse was to inspire or sell their ability to work with the mathematics. The strength conception considers the ethical responsibility to communicate the consequences of mathematical decisions. Not one of the participants believed that they had been taught communication skills as part of their degree. -- Participants gained a 'mathematical identity' from their studies and acquiring a degree gave them confidence and a range of problem-solving skills. Recommendations are made about changes in university curriculum to ensure that graduates are empowered to make a high-quality transition to the workplace and be in a position to use their mathematical skills. Mathematical skills are necessary but not sufficient for a successful transition to the workplace. The subjects of the study are the 155 graduates of the program for the period from 1970 through 1978. This study has three purposes. The first is to determine the retention rate of the graduates. The second is to assess the factors related to attrition of these professionals. The third is to describe a programming methodology that would enhance career retention.

The general objective is to draw a technical, academic and professional profile of researchers from the Science Teaching Area, using as a research focus the PPGEC, having as a sample the masters trained in the period from 1997 to 2014 and the doctors graduated in 2003 to 2013, with a total of 494 graduates. The data were collected in reports made available by the Postgraduate Section; published scientific articles; in legislation; and those related to subjects were obtained from the information contained in the Lattes curriculum. It is a quantitative research, with the scientometric bases; and to analyze these data we used principles of descriptive statistics. What can be seen, in general, is that the profile of graduates is mostly female, with higher rates in the masters than in the doctorate. The graduates who more sought the program were graduated in 37.2% Biological Sciences; 21.4% Physics; 14,1% Mathematics; 9.3% Chemistry; and 4.2% Pedagogy, from 1997 to 2014 and that most of them work in public universities and colleges after the conclusion of the course.

Goals of struggles in search of valorization and professional recognition. Recently, the segment of non-teaching staff conquered with the Ministry of Education the creation of the National Policy for the Training of Primary Education Professionals. At the time, the Initial Training Program was created in the Service of Professionals of the Basic Education of Public Education Systems - Profuncionário, with an offer of four courses of professional technicians, namely: School Feeding, School Infrastructure, School Secretary and Didactic Multimeters. The general objective of this research is to evaluate, based on the perception of the graduates, the contribution of the Profuncionário program to its training and professional performance, in view of the proposals of the guidelines of said program. In addition, a study of the guidelines of the program and a brief report on the professional of the public basic education, on the vocational technical education in the distance modality and on the Profuncionário program was carried out. The methodology used included empirical and descriptive research. The study, being a survey, is characterized as being of the survey type, with a quantitative and qualitative approach. The data collection instrument used was the questionnaire composed of open and closed questions that will be analyzed in both quantitative and qualitative perspective. According to the quantitative of respondents and the characteristics of each course, a proportional stratified probabilistic sample was defined. Data from 260 graduates were collected and analyzed, being 22 of School Infrastructure, 30 of Didactic Multimeters, 41 of School Feeding and 167 of School Secretary. The main results show that 78% of the graduates are female, that the predominant age group is 31 to 40 years, that 72% work in municipal public schools and that 54.2% work in the area of the technical course they have completed. With regard to the contributions of the program to the professional training of non-teaching staff, the results obtained show that 95.4% of the graduates recognize themselves as educators, integrating the teaching and learning process. At the time, positive and negative aspects of the program were identified, as well as improvements were suggested. Based on the researched literature and taking into account that the objective of the program is the valuation of non-teaching staff, the results indicate that the program, although it needs small adjustments, is meeting the objective by which it was implemented. / Nas últimas décadas, um dos desafios na área da educação, diz respeito às demandas para a formação profissional dos funcionários da educação, englobando os docentes e os não-docentes. Foram décadas de lutas em busca de valorização e de reconhecimento profissional. Recentemente, o segmento de funcionários não docentes conquistaram junto ao Ministério da Educação a criação da Política Nacional de Formação dos Profissionais da Educação Básica. Na ocasião, foi criado o Programa de Formação Inicial em Serviço dos Profissionais da Educação Básica dos Sistemas de Ensino Público – Profuncionário, com a oferta de quatro cursos técnicos profissionalizantes, a saber: Alimentação Escolar, Infraestrutura Escolar, Secretaria Escolar e Multimeios Didáticos. O objetivo geral desta pesquisa é avaliar, a partir da percepção dos egressos, a contribuição do programa Profuncionário para sua formação e atuação profissional, tendo em vista as propostas das diretrizes do referido programa. Ademais, foi realizado um estudo das diretrizes do programa e um breve relato sobre o profissional da educação básica pública, sobre o ensino técnico profissionalizante na modalidade a distância e sobre o programa Profuncionário. A metodologia utilizada contou com pesquisa empírica e descritiva. O estudo, por ser de levantamento, caracteriza-se como sendo do tipo survey, com abordagem quantitativa e qualitativa. O instrumento de coleta de dados utilizado foi o questionário composto de perguntas abertas e fechadas que foram analisadas tanto na perspectiva quantitativa quanto qualitativa. Em função do quantitativo de respondentes e das características de cada curso, definiu-se uma amostra probabilística estratificada proporcional. Foram coletados e analisados dados de 260 egressos, sendo 22 de Infraestrutura Escolar, 30 de Multimeios Didáticos, 41 de Alimentação Escolar e 167 de Secretaria Escolar. Os principais resultados encontrados revelam que 78% dos egressos são do sexo feminino, que a faixa etária predominante é de 31 a 40 anos, que 72% trabalham em escolas públicas municipais e que 54,2% atuam na área do curso técnico que concluíram. Com relação as contribuições do programa para a formação profissional do funcionário não docente, os resultados obtidos demonstram que 95,4% dos egressos se reconhecem como educadores, integrando o processo de ensino e aprendizagem, na ocasião foram identificados aspectos positivos e negativos do programa, bem como foram sugeridas melhorias. Com base na literatura pesquisada e levando em consideração que o objetivo do programa é a valorização dos funcionários não docentes, os resultados encontrados indicam que o programa, embora precise de pequenos ajustes, está atendendo ao objetivo pelo qual foi implementado.

Análise do processo de implantação do “Projeto Mais Médicos para o Brasil” no estado do Rio Grande do Sul

Quais os impactos de curto prazo ocorridos a partir dos ciclos iniciais de implantação do “Programa Mais Médicos” (PMM) em municípios do Rio Grande do Sul? Essa dissertação versa um sobre subtipo de ensaio comunitário acerca da problemática em questão, com estudo agregado com múltiplos grupos, longitudinal em série temporal retrospectiva, a partir de dados de fontes secundárias, com análise descritiva de propósito exploratório. Trata-se de 10 grupos conformados por agregados de municípios do Rio Grande do Sul, selecionados e estratificados em 5 faixas populacionais, estando pareados pela condição de implantação e não implantação do PMM. Realizou-se análise comparativa e descritiva de um conjunto selecionado de indicadores correlatos aos serviços de Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS). De um modo geral, observou-se o incremento de indicadores de estrutura nos agregados de municípios com implantação do PMM, notadamente nos agregados com faixas de menores populações. Em termos de indicadores de resultados observou-se discreto incremento na produção de serviços nos agregados com implantação do PMM, contudo, não foram identificadas diferenças significativas de internações por causas sensíveis e de outros indicadores de impacto próprios da APS. As hipóteses mais plausíveis para explicar os achados estão referidas ao exíguo tempo decorrido entre a implantação do PMM e a realização do estudo, além da constatação de que nos ciclos iniciais de implantação do programa houve predominância de caráter substitutivo de trabalho profissional médico nos municípios selecionados para o estudo. / What are the short-term impacts occurred in the early cycles implementation of the "More Doctors Program" (PMM) in municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul? This research focuses on one community trial subtype, added to multiple groups, in longitudinal retrospective time series, based on data from secondary sources, with descriptive analysis of exploratory purpose. It is conformed by 10 groups clusters of municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul, selected and stratified into five population groups, being matched by the deployment condition and not implementation of PMM. We carried out comparative and descriptive analysis of a selected set of indicators related to the services of Primary Health Care (PHC). In general, there was the structure of indicators of growth in clusters of municipalities with implementation of PMM, especially in conglomerates with smaller populations tracks. In terms of outcome indicators showed a slight increase in the production of services in conglomerates with implementation of PMM, however, significant differences in hospital admissions were identified by sensitive causes and other APS's own impact indicators. The most plausible hypotheses to explain the findings are referred to the narrow time between the implementation of the PMM and the study, besides the fact that in the early cycles of program implementation was substitute character predominance of medical professional working in selected municipalities to the study.

An exploration into the social support systems of unemployed graduates

Young people are often expected to find employment after completing their tertiary qualifications but they often face various challenges in finding employment. These challenges may be due to a variety of factors such as the type of qualification that they hold, structural changes in the economy, lack of skills and experience and the lack of relevant social networks. Furthermore, the current economic climate is characterised by low absorption rates of labour in the economy, poverty and inequalities. As such young graduates may experience various negative effects as a result of their unemployment, such as isolation, depression, decreased self-esteem, dependency, discontentment, loneliness, loss of social status and poverty. Social support has been found to have a buffering effect on people experiencing adverse life events such as unemployment. The focus of this current study was therefore to explore the social support experiences of graduates in the township of Mamelodi. This research study was a qualitative, interpretative phenomenological study. Snowballing sampling and purposive sampling were used to obtain research participants who attained tertiary qualifications. Smaller samples of between 6 and10 participants are commonly used in interpretative phenomenological studies. As such, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 participants. The interviews were audio recorded and transcribed. Thematic analysis was then used to extract themes from the participant interviews. The participant interviews indicated that the participants experienced a lack of finance as the most significant challenge during their unemployment, as they could not support themselves and their families. The participants experienced social support in the form of encouragement and information about possible employment opportunities from their family, friends, intimate partners and their community. Moreover, the analysis of the participants’ interviews demonstrated that social support, especially from the family, was essential for the unemployed graduates to cope with the negative effects of unemployment, even though they did not want to burden their families with the responsibility of providing them with social support. / Psychology / M.A. (Psychology)

Higher education analysis in the Czech Republic with a focus on graduates 2001-2017 Abstract The aim of this thesis is the analysis of higher education graduates in the Czech Republic between 2001 and 2017, focussing on the type of study program, the field of study, the net duration of the study, the graduation age, the citizenship and the gender. As main data source served the register. Changes in the net duration of the study, depending on the above-mentioned factors, were summarized using a general linear model. The gender dependence on the field and the net duration of the study was modeled using logistic regression. In addition, demographic methods were used for net entry rates and net graduation rates. Theoretical introduction to the topic - Trow's Concept, Bologna Process and Strategic Materials of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports - is also included. The overview of higher education is complemented by the historical development of the higher education system in Czechoslovakia, information on the educational structure according to the SLDB 2011 and international comparisons within the OECD countries complements the overall view of higehr education.
