ABSTRACT The research addresses the information literacy of the graduates at Library Science in northeastern Brazil. To achieve this, outlined as main objective to analyze the information literacy of graduates of Library Science course in the Northeast of Brazil, specifically sought to characterize the mentioned graduates during period of 2004 up to 2014; verify the ability of graduates to define information needs; identify the use of resources and appropriate strategies to meet the informational demands; ascertain the realization of efficient evaluation of information; and to examine the understanding of the legal aspects regarding the use of information. It is a descriptive research with survey method (survey), combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. The data collection instrument was the Survey Questionnaire, prepared in accordance with the standards of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) and in the light with literature. The population of this research are the graduates from nine higher education federal institutions, that housing the course of librarianship, however, the sample consisted of 237 participants. Data were organized into five thematic categories. The results come from the category profile of the participants showed their institutional origin, as basic education, knowledge about the library environment before joining the course of Library Science, and concern with continuing education after completing the course, in order to improve their skills and competencies. In the category needs and identifying information, it was realized that the graduates are able to define information needs, however, demonstrate some difficulty as to identify and distinguish between primary and secondary sources, and, tertiary sources were easily identified, curiously. The category strategies and selection of the resources demonstrated capabilities that graduates to use the strategies efficiently to access the information, however, it was noticed that the use of online resources has little incidence among professionals studied, which explains, in a sense, the low frequency for the use of specific operators to retrieve the information. As for category evaluation of information, it was found that graduates demonstrate awareness of the selection of information that is consistent with the scientific principles concerning the reliability of the information. This makes it possible to infer that these professionals can, to access information check their relevance, so that they can effectively meet the informational demands, this attitude which is in accordance with the precepts of ACRL. Finally, the data of the category legal aspects in the use of information showed that librarians understand the legal aspects of information, especially in relation to copyright and intellectual property. Although this segment, as the recording of the identifying elements of a publishing (NBR 6023), which give the authorship credentials, notes a misunderstanding with regard to this practice, which in some way may compromise the recovery of information by others. We conclude, therefore, that in general the graduates have acquired throughout his training information literacy that are essential to their professional practice, however, there are aspects to be improved.

Postoje studentů denní formy studia Zdravotně sociální fakulty Jihočeské univerzity k vlastní uplatnitelnosti na trhu práce / Attitudes of Students selected fields Faculty of Health and Social Studies University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice for their own employability in the Labor Market

KOIŠOVÁ, Lenka January 2017 (has links)
In my thesis, I am finding out about the attitudes of students of the health and social faculty towards their own future occupation prospects. Although the unemployment situation in the Czech Republic as well as the situation in the South Region is favorable, graduates and young people are among the most vulnerable groups in the labor market. The first chapter describes the theoretical background of this issue. This part defines the overall unemployment problems of the Czech Republic, unemployment in the South Region. It describes the labor market and students situation is described based on the educational attainment and then their situation in the Czech Republic is compared to the similar situation abroad. Then it also describes the faculty and defines the issues of helping professions covered by the fields of the faculty. The aim of my thesis was to find out what the students of the faculty imagine when asked of their future occupation. They would like to stay in the field which they graduated from and then why they would want to stay in it or why not. The results show that students of the faculty want to stay in the field they graduated from on the labor market in the future. The research was conducted via questionnaire. In the practical part of the thesis I compared the attitudes of students of health and social fields. I also compared the attitudes of students who are studying in bachelor's program and students who continue their studies in the follow-up study. When it comes to comparison between the social and health studies, it is possible to see the differences in the attitudes of students, as well as the comparison of bachelor and master programs. Thesis may be beneficial for the employment deparment of Czech Republic and for the health and social faculty. Furthermore it may also be beneficial for representatives of state administration who monitor and control the whole system of tertiary education.

The relevance of the National Certificate Vocational at Technical Vocational Education and Training colleges for the South African tourism industry

Engelbrecht, Mardine January 2017 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Tourism and Hospitality Management))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2017. / The study was planned to investigate the relevance of the National Certificate Vocational tourism programme for the South African tourism industry in terms of the employability and skills required by tourism students to work in the tourism industry, once they graduated. The main objective of this study was to identify the challenges facing the National Certificate Vocational tourism programme, with sub-objectives focussing on the level of graduates’ employability, articulation from the National Certificate Vocational programme to higher education, as well as on the skills and abilities needed by National Certificate Vocational lecturers to teach in their specific field. The research was conducted in the form of an empirical survey to gather information using research questionnaires. A mixed methods approach, using both a quantitative and qualitative methodology, was employed to gather relevant data for the study. Qualitative questionnaires were distributed to a target population comprising conveniently selected National Certificate Vocational Tourism graduates (a total sample of 100), and National Certificate Vocational lecturers (a sample of 50 suitably qualified persons), at four Technical Vocational Education and Training colleges in the Western Cape. Personal interviews were conducted with ten conveniently selected tourism industry employers and role-players. Ten specifically identified representatives of tourism and government education departments and other government organisations were also part of the target population. The first part of the study looked at the history of Vocational Education and how it is practised in other countries. The history of the National Certificate Vocational programmes within South Africa is explained, as well as the challenges facing the National Certificate Vocational tourism qualification and its relevance to the tourism industry in South Africa. Results from the research suggested that National Certificate Vocational tourism students are only employable in small to medium micro enterprises (SMMEs) once they graduate. It was concluded that graduates would need more experience and practical knowledge to be employable in the wider tourism labour market. The results confirm that the updated National Certificate Vocational tourism curriculum is critically important to make the qualification more relevant to the South African tourism industry.

The role of social entrepreneurship in graduate employability in Cape Town, South Africa

Mandyoli, Bulelwa Beauty January 2017 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Business Administration (Entrepreneurship)))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2017. / Graduates face challenges to secure relevant employment; even worse, obtaining a qualification does not guarantee employment or employability. The labour market no longer only searches for a qualification but also for a set of skills. Graduates are required to improve upon proficiencies that would qualify for positive performance and would benefit the employer to use for business purposes. In addition, scarcities of expertise, besides working environment knowledge, indicate that businesses are unwilling to employ graduates, hiring more experienced people as an option. This research has studied the developing concept of social entrepreneurship; but principally examined the context in which social entrepreneurship can be used to improve graduate employability. A quantitative method was used with the help of a structured questionnaire in order to achieve a high level of reliability in relation to data analysis. The subjects for this research comprised 187 social entrepreneurs who are formally registered as non-profit organisations within Cape Town, and are registered on the Western Cape Charity South Africa database. The data collected for this study were analysed and illustrated using tables, bars and pie charts. It is hoped that this study will not merely add to the knowledge of social business enterprise, but also disclose the likely roles that social entrepreneurs can play to improve graduate employability. / National Research Foundation(NRF)

Vliv zákona o zaměstnanosti platného od 1.1.2006 na zařazování absolventů vysokých škol do evidence Úřadu práce v okrese České Budějovice / The impact of the Employment Act, valid since 1st January 2006, on the input of university graduates into Labour Office{\crq}s files in the District of České Budějovice

PETRÍKOVÁ, Vlasta January 2007 (has links)
On the 1st January 2006, Act No. 435/2004 Sb. on employment, which was amended by Act No. 382/2005 Sb., came into force. The objective of the act is protection against unemployment, securing full employment and combating illegal employment. This includes a change of condition for obtaining the claim for unemployment benefits. One of the conditions for obtaining the claim for unemployment benefits is to pay retirement income insurance and the contribution for the national employment policy for the 12 months in the decisive period of the last there years before being put in the files of job applicants. From the 1st Oct. 2004 systematic preparation for one{\crq}s future occupation was not included as substitutive employment period at all. Since the 1st Jan. 2006, systematic preparation for one{\crq}s future occupation has been included as substitutive employment period; however, not more than 6 months may be included for these purposes. To file their claims for benefit, the graduates have to hold, before being put into the files of job applicants, a job that allocates the duty to pay insurance for at least six months over the last three years. The research was conducted by means of a quantitative sociological investigation. The technique used for data collection was an anonymous questionnaire. The research set was made up of students of the last years of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies of the University of South Bohemia and university and college graduates of in the files of job applicants at the Labour Office in České Budějovice. The objective of my thesis was to find out the attitude of students of the Faculty of Health and Social Studies to their possible employment, to compare the obtained data with the answers of university graduates in the file of job applicants at the Labour Office in České Budějovice and to find out the structure of university graduates registered at the Labour Office in České Budějovice, according to the university or college that they graduated from. The objectives of the thesis have been fulfilled. The outcomes of the thesis could be used as an overview of students{\crq} and graduates{\crq} attitude to unemployment and their future employment. These outcomes can be made use of by those who are in charge of the education of these two groups of people. Unemployment in students can optimally be prevented by preventive measures, e.g. by giving due attention to the choice of the branch of study with respect to its use in the labour market, and by providing each individual student with sufficient information.

Dopady celosvětové finanční krize na nezaměstnanost absolventů v Jihočeském kraji / The impact of the world economic recession on unemployment of the graduates in South Bohemian Region

LINDMAJEROVÁ, Lucie January 2010 (has links)
The performance of the world{\crq}s biggest economies is slowing down and young people are the most affected as shown by the rising numbers of unemployment, especially among the youths. The aim of this thesis is to identify and map the impact of the global financial crisis on the unemployment of graduates in the South Bohemian Region. My intention was to test the hypothesis of my previous thesis topic ``Life targets of the unemployed graduates in České Budějovice`` and the data obtained by thos investigation/research is to be put into context with reference to the current state of the labour market. In this thesis, I have used the form of quantitative research. As a method of data collection, I have chosen to use interviews and document analysis. The technique, in this case, is the secondary analysis of data from the questinaire. The questionnaire was developed in two forms: on paper (printed copies) and on the Internet (the electronic form) in order to increase data. The questionaire consisted of 22 questions which are well related to the total psycho-social and economic well being of the unemployed and, in as much following the current set hypotheses: {\clqq}The most prefered goals in the lives of the unemployed graduates is to find a well paying job``, most of the graduates still remain in a period of unemployment and hence they are still living with their parents`` and {\clqq}Most of the unemployed graduates tend to adopt an active approach in finding a job``. I contacted the respodents through the job centres in South Bohemia Region. The first hypothesis proved to be wrong whilest the second and third hypothesis proved to be correct and hence the aim of the thesis was fulfilled. This is a very practical topic in connection with unemployment and this work can serve as a basis for further research, especially with subsequent use in schools. This work may also be used as a supplement for specialised courses focusing on issues of unemployment.

Análise do processo de implantação do “Projeto Mais Médicos para o Brasil” no estado do Rio Grande do Sul

Melo, Diego Azevedo Conte de January 2015 (has links)
What are the short-term impacts occurred in the early cycles implementation of the "More Doctors Program" (PMM) in municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul? This research focuses on one community trial subtype, added to multiple groups, in longitudinal retrospective time series, based on data from secondary sources, with descriptive analysis of exploratory purpose. It is conformed by 10 groups clusters of municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul, selected and stratified into five population groups, being matched by the deployment condition and not implementation of PMM. We carried out comparative and descriptive analysis of a selected set of indicators related to the services of Primary Health Care (PHC). In general, there was the structure of indicators of growth in clusters of municipalities with implementation of PMM, especially in conglomerates with smaller populations tracks. In terms of outcome indicators showed a slight increase in the production of services in conglomerates with implementation of PMM, however, significant differences in hospital admissions were identified by sensitive causes and other APS's own impact indicators. The most plausible hypotheses to explain the findings are referred to the narrow time between the implementation of the PMM and the study, besides the fact that in the early cycles of program implementation was substitute character predominance of medical professional working in selected municipalities to the study.

This thesis analyses Brazilian engineers professional group in the context of the neoliberal policies and of the productive restructuring. It studies how the fractions of the professional group have been affected by these structural transformations and how their different political organizations have reacted in the political conjuncture. On one hand, the thesis shows how the combination of opening up the economy, privatization, States' reform and financial liberalization could raise private sector activities and Brazilian economic dependence. This thesis describes how both transformations have been qualitatively touched engineers activities. On the other hand, it suggests that the liberalization of labor market, the reform of the public retirement system and the policies of focusing State social investments have had an effect on the professional group: a trend towards an individual career and well being management. Through quantitative analyses amongst engineers and qualitative studies among them and their interest organizations, the thesis focuses on analyzing the evolution of political history of the professional group. First, it describes the literature which shows the Brazilian engineers interest organizations during the 1970s and 1980s. Second, it studies in depth how these organizations have acted in the political context of the 1990s and early 2000s. This thesis also makes an exploratory analysis of the political profiles of the engineers of state companies, particularly Petrobras, in direct comparison with the changes occurring in their labor conditions. In general, the thesis argues that the dynamics of the macrosocial conflicts carries considerable weight in the political positioning of the different fractions of the professional group and its interest organizations / Doutorado / Ciencia Politica / Doutor em Ciência Política
